The Perfect Budget Full Frame Anamorphic Lens: GREAT JOY 50mm T2.9 1.8x

- If you are looking for an all-around good focal length for anamorphic, I believe this is it right here. This full-frame 50mm Anamorphic lens actually gives you a 28mm field of view, in the Anamorphic world, so it is perfect for indie filmmakers. Of course, you'll need a full-frame sensor camera to get the widest field of view. Keep in mind that if you are using a Super 35 or crop sensor camera, your field of view will be tighter.
The lens is pretty robust and well built. As you'll see from the footage, it produces beautiful anamorphic images. I don’t often get to shoot anamorphic for the types of shoots I am involved in, so I was really happy when I can step away from spherical lenses and do something with more character.

Great review, really nice footage
love this dude!
Great review!
Beautiful footage, thanks for the review! I understand this lens' de-squeeze ratio changes between 1.8x at infinity and 1.65x at close focus. Curious to know if you have any extra challenges with de-squeezing in post because of this, to get the image looking right?
Yeah, as the subject gets closer, the desqueeze factor changes. It is difficult once you get in post to remember the exact distance from the subject, so you kind of have to guess as to the squeeze factor.
What adpater did you use for the FX9? I don't plan to use the lens on anything besides my FX3 for a while, but maybe in the future. Should I get the E mount, or the EF? I've heard you can't adapt the E to other mounts
Where the pelicula at bro?
Nice review! Go tribe…. I mean guardians 😆
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How much for the lens?

Using the wrong desqueeze factor bothers me...
It bothers me too and I realized I got the wrong squeeze factor on the Broll of the 50mm lens. I filmed it with the Great Joy 60mm + Red Komodo and it has a desqueeze of 1.33X. My bad, I was rushing to get the review out on time.
