Imagine a combat flight sim where every single plane in the game was study level with these sounds and visuals. The community is long overdue for something like this. Asobo should work together with the il2 team and irom simulations to make something truly great....My dream, anyway :-(
@@justincase9033 DCS has WWII planes and map already, and in my opinion DCS has better sound on the WWII Planes, MSFS did not have the whistling sound from the supercharger.
Thank you very much, Samuel! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video / experience. I certainly try to make my videos more than “just” a review : ) Very kind of your to say. Much appreciated and all the best to you!
A fun little note, if you select the tropical filter the aircraft also has mounts added next to the cockpit. If the temperature is warm enough, an umbrella will be fitted for some shade.
Looks like it handles properly - good takeoff and landing! They did a nice job with the shaking, pressure needle jumping, etc. I love the 109 in DCS (and did in countless older sims) but after hearing Flying Iron's engine sound I might end up with my first MSFS warbird for that factor alone. Really has the sound of some in-cockpit videos.
Cheers Josef! Yes, the 109 is definitely a bit of a handful, which I gather was accurate haha. There were one or two flight model issues, but FlyingIron already seem to be working on those (and indeed, they’ve done a lovely job with the aircraft overall). The DCS 109 is excellent, but I love having the entire world of MSFS to explore. If you do / did pick up the Messer, I hope you enjoy it! All the best : )
Hello Jackson, You firstly need to make sure that you have the BF109’s prop control set to manual (as demonstrated in the video). After that, I just use my normal prop axis control. The control bindings in MSFS are either “Propeller Axis”, or I suspect “Increase / Decrease Propellor Pitch” would work also (if you don’t have an axis available). I hope that helps? All the best : )
In the loop, "the aircraft almost wanting to snap" would be because one slat went in before the other. During the war, this may have saved many an allied pilot who was in the sights of the Me-109 pilot and whose aim was put off momentarily. BTW , the Luftwaffe pilot had no idea of "BF-109"-to them , it was the ME-109 (pronounced "may" hundert neun"
100%, Dackah. The problem was, I couldn’t get over the top of the loop without the slats deploying, the 109 was just bleeding off too much energy in the manoeuvre (and I wasn’t able to get the aircraft through the loop any more quickly - I already had full flight control deflection). There was an issue with the aircraft’s flight model at the time, which has subsequently been corrected by FlyingIron. Cheers for the info. All the best : )
I have it since day 1, strong contender for #1 Warbird in MSFS at the moment. Few notes on the review: -Radiator open = arrow right, not down -If tooltips are enabled, you can see plug fouling status right on the lever. Quite handy. -while all FI products have Workshop page in Tablet, this is the first one, where wear and tear is actually implemented AFAIK. In older products it's just for display (only engine stresses implemented). In Messer, many more component can fail with harsh usage or just randomly (notably landing gear). -Autopilot can be used outside of tablet with Keyboard/controller keybinds, of course GPS tracking and all usual modes can be used. No limitation on just HDG and ALT hold. -Simplified ground handling - only thing it does is link rudder input to differential brakes. Useful for people without rudder pedals. Aircraft has the same custom FlyingIron ground handling physics, this cannot be turned off. -Battery, disconnection should be only via tablet on ground (IRL done by ground crew), but if someone have Battery keybind on Honeycomb rocket switch, it works just with that.
Hello Tomas, Great to hear that you’re enjoying the 109 and I very much agree re the number 1 spot! - Haha indeed, I did mess up the operation of the radiator. I noticed whilst watching the video back; initially the control was in shadow, so I didn’t see the text there on the right of the control. - Tooltips?? Come now, that wouldn’t be very befitting of one of my videos : P - Yes, very true re the Workshop feature and it’s great to see FlyingIron flesh out that functionality further. - Your other points are noted and good to know. Cheers! Thanks for the info, much appreciated! Happy flying once again : )
Hi DC, The soundset is indeed a thoroughly impressive effort from FlyingIron! A little bit more supercharger whine would be nice during the flybys, but otherwise the 109 sounds very convincing. Definitely one of the best sounding aircraft in MSFS to date. I do hope you’re enjoying the “Messer” then! Happy flying and all the best : )
GREAT flight. "One" of the best features of this plane are the engine sounds. I like the head on low pass view and the camera shakes when you pass by = wonderful. If you are a warbird pilot, this is a model you would love to fly. My only 2-cents is that the stick looks like it came off an old bird but the rest of the cockpit looks brand new. I do like that it has the spinny thing in front. Thanks for the review! !! !!!
Cheers Mark! I completely agree; for anyone that enjoys their warbirds in MSFS (and those who don’t are missing out ; ) , the 109 really can’t be beat at the moment! A pleasure to fly an absolute joy to listen to and I’m sure the aircraft will only continue to improve, as FlyingIron keep working on it. A pleasure once again! Many thanks : )
As my father always told me: reduce pulling the stick on top of the loop and force the plane not down right away. He flew a trainer plane for the 109, the Klemm35
Oh and I bought Tannheim and use it as my 109 training ground. For an ever tougher challenge LOWZ which is also a great addon airports is not far away in the Alpes.
Thanks very much for the tip Michael. I did try a number of techniques with the 109 during the loop. It actually transpired that there was an issue with the 109’s flight model and FlyingIron addressed this issue during the first patch (I haven’t had a chance to try the aircraft out since). I’m glad you’re enjoying Tannheim. It is indeed a great little spot, as is LOWZ : ) Cheers. Happy flying and all the best!
Looks like a aircraft i would do long flights with. And yes, i would be using the autopilot for most the trip as i don't have a flight stick or pedals as what i do have to use is an XBox PC controller, that or mouse and keyboard.
They do indeed, Point Man; FlyingIron do amazing work (all the more impressive, considering that even after releasing excellent products, they continue to develop them further)! I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the 109! Happy flying and and all the best : )
14:03 Slick as always! Warbird aeros are one of my favourite things to do. Top tips for barrel roll: before you pull up, pick a feature 90° off, pull straight up til ‘feet are on horizon’ then loaded roll to pull aircraft nose to your feature. Adjust controls to keep roll and pitch consistent. Aim for same degrees nose down as nose up. That’s the basics but let me know if you want the detail 👍🏻
Thank you very much, sir! I knew it was a pretty abysmal attempt at a barrel roll haha; I’ve only done a very limited amount of aerobatics in the real world and as I mentioned during the video, it’s something I’ve forever been meaning to practice more of in the sim. I shall go away and give it another try and then come crawling back if it’s still a complete disaster ; ) Much appreciated, all the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations sometimes on my solo flights I’d spend the entire hour throwing it upside down, free as a bird! Best of luck, happy to help 👍🏻
Love the cinematic story with a wingman. Thank you for extra work you put into reviews. This is the level of detail I am looking for - a no brainer purchase a couple of days ago. A bit strange with the top of loop issue. Flying inverted in general is no problem. Guess we pull too much G over the top. Fun to figure out more. There is major flaw with such a great sound - Lack of fly by. FlyingIron works with Corsair model in DCS, they know the - hit F3 button for a fly by view. If they fix this, I will instantly buy the Spitfire and Hellcat. Promise.
Thanks very much Øystein, my pleasure as always - I’m just glad you enjoyed it! FlyingIron have pretty much slipped into the “day 1 purchase” category for me now; they’ve barely put a foot wrong since coming to MSFS and their dedication to their products after release, is also exemplary. I think the inability to fly a loop, was a bit of a flight model issue, which FI do seem to have addressed with the first patch. I guess we won’t see a native flyby view in MSFS until 2024 now haha, but I gather the most recent version of Flight Control Replay (actually, the same tool I used for my virtual wingman during this video) will include a flyby camera, so that might be worth checking out if you’re really keen. Many thanks once again! : )
Thank you very much for the kind words, Speedlime! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Reviewing addons can become a little repetitive so for me, coming up with the “story”, is really what keeps things fun / interesting (and I enjoy figuring out how everything is going to come together). Of course, it’s always great to hear that someone else enjoys these little adventures also. Much appreciated and all the best to you! : )
Thanks very much Fleuger, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! FlyingIron have indeed done a wonderful job with the aircraft, their 109 is a really challenging but fun option for the sim. My pleasure on the video! Thanks for watching and all the best : )
So geil! Endlich haben wir den 109 zu genießen! Took their sweet time, but finally someone made the 109 for MFS! Looks and sounds great. The only negative stand-outs for me are the prop animation which is really bad, and some systems, like oxygen, don’t seem to have the same depth as in DCS.
Haha! Well, I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the Messer, Davide ; ) The MSFS version perhaps lacks a little depth in some areas vs the DCS version, but I’d say it’s swings and roundabouts, with the MSFS version having better visuals and sounds. The DCS 109 flies superbly, but I find it so hard to move out of MSFS these days - I love having the whole world to explore haha. Cheers as always! : )
Excellent review! The lads at Flying Iron live100 miles away from me, and I'm very proud of them. I bought it the instant it was released, and it's a cracker!
Thanks very much John! Haha, well there’s certainly a lot to be proud of. FlyingIron have consistently put out excellent and ever improving products. Not only are their addons great from the get-go, but they tend to improve considerably over time. In my opinion, FlyingIron have pretty much secured “day 1 purchase” status at this point. Happy flying and all the best : )
I love your effort to overlay some German commentary, even if it isn't one word about the ME109. The quality of your videos is amazing and it's always a joy to watch them. ❤❤❤
Thank you very much for the kind words, Boradumir! Believe me, if I could have found some decent 109 commentary, I would have used it haha ; ) I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content to such a degree! Much appreciated and all the best to you : )
I do love inertial starters. I got chills from that crank. Having seen a BF-109 decades ago at an airshow where the CAF had a large part and the had some mock "dogfights" and ground attacks including their "Tora, Tora, Tora!" Runs. All with pyrotechnics for the bomb hits. One thing I remember is that sound. Spectacular. One thing I guess I have to get used to is the censored swastika. I get it but historical accuracy is a point of contention for me but everyone's doing it so unless I want to repaint, I'll have to settle for modern revisionism. On the weapons deal, if the don't want to go TacPac like VRS did, they could simulate the oxygen fired simulated gun fire like you see used at airshows. That keeps it "peaceful" but allows the wannabe airshow pilot do mock attack runs. On the side, I look forward to your briefings. Oh yeah, headphones are mandatory to enjoy this video. Crank it between narrations when he's showing the outside displays and you won't be sorry. QUESTION: Did the Gustav have a powered inertial starter or is it a work around to keep from animating a crew member cranking the fly-wheel?
Haha, I very much agree Kyle - there’s something very satisfying about an inertial starter. That sounds like a fun airshow! I’ve seen at least one 109 over the years and the sound really stuck with me also, specifically the whine of the supercharger (which is maybe lacking just slightly with the FI 109, though the sounds are otherwise excellent). I nearly made the same point about the swastika. I realise it’s a contentious subject, but I’m no fan of historical revisionism and personally, I’d rather see these aircraft as they flew. The only thing I will say there; these days (sadly?) even the real-world 109’s seemingly don’t have the proper markings, at least not the flying examples I have come across in UA-cam. So FlyingIron has “faithfully” recreated the modern aircraft in that respect. . . I would also like to see working armaments (as we’ve seen with the MILVIZ Corsair) and personally, I think that would be one of the next logical improvements for FlyingIron to make to their products (though I don’t believe they have any plans to do so). From the little that I know of the 109, I don’t believe it did have an electrical starter (the K variant in DCS still has to be cranked by the ground crew), I think it’s just a concession that FlyingIron have made for the sim (and fair enough!). Thank you very much once again! I’m glad you enjoyed the video : )
Hi there, nice video. Graphics and sound are pretty realistic Although they never sent them full throttle at Tannkosh… unfortunately. Nice to see home airport in one of your videos. Greetings from Memmingen near EDMT
Thanks very much Max, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and indeed a little bit of “Tannkosh” haha. I guess these old birds never get pushed to the limits these days (understandably), but that’s one of the brilliant things about enjoying them in the sim - one can firewall the throttle and pull some g, without worrying about the consequences and / or the bill XD Thanks very much for watching and all the best to you! : )
Hi Anthony, I would love to see Microsoft bring back their Combat Flight Simulator franchise, but sadly it seems they have no intention of doing so. As you say, at least we do have some great alternatives these days : ) Cheers, all the best!
A brilliant aircraft from FlyingIron once again. I've flown nothing else in the sim since I got this one and would probably have cost the ground crews many man hours in maintenance, particularly to the undercarriage. I was also surprised how tractor like it sounds in the cockpit and also double checked some of the videos online. Great touch with the wingman, thanks for another very informative vid.
Absolutely Terry, the 109 is another superb effort from the FlyingIron team! It sounds like your experiences with the aircraft, have very much mirrored my own haha XD I’m really glad you enjoyed the video, my pleasure as always! Happy flying : )
I have very fond memories of FS98 also, YATD - it was the first flight sim that I got to try for myself! MSFS is clearly leaps and bounds ahead today but, pound for pound, I think FS2004 is probably my favourite sim of the franchise : ) Cheers, all the best!
Oil splashes on the windscreen are epic. Way better than IL-2 Great Battles or DCS. To be sure, the model on at least IL-2 is probably a more accurate representation of hot engine oil. This is just better.
Indeed OG, FlyingIron have done a very nice job on the oil-spatter animation (as they have with the entirety of the BF-109). The point you raise is one I often make myself; whilst generally I’m all for accuracy, sometimes “artistic licence” just makes things that much better ; ) Cheers once again!
Haha!! Ahhh, gutted that I missed a trick there, Jeff! Another time perhaps XD I’m really glad that you enjoyed the “airshow” though. Thank you very much for watching and all the best : )
Indeed, Robert. I don’t know whether that’s a limitation of the sim, or a limitation of the recording tool that I use (I would have said the latter, but at least one of my other viewers seemed to think that it’s a sim issue). The sim certainly can model free-spinning wheels but, any wheels that have brakes attached, tend to come to a stop straight after liftoff (as if the brakes are already applied). Cheers, all the best!
A splendid outing in the ol Messer. This is a product I've been looking forward to on Xbox, if fact it wouldn't be a stretch to say I'll be flying around with it day one. Probably gonna pick up the P-38 as well, which I hear got a big update to engine sounds and other things, same with the spitfire. Up next is probably that French flying boat Latecoere that Microsoft just released as local legend 9. Certainly seems to be an interesting fly, especially given how extravagant flying boats tended to be at the time.
Thanks very much Deku! I believe I’m correct in saying that the 109 is out on the console now? I do hope you’re enjoying it! The P-38 is excellent also and indeed, one can’t go too far wrong with any of FlyingIron’s products. The Latecoere looks visually amazing and I think I might feature the aircraft at some point, though I have a more “artistic” idea for the video, rather than a review haha. Happy flying and all the best! : )
Hi PilotFlo Haha, well it’s not from Tannheim (though I did initially try to find something suitable from Tannkosh), but I did pull the audio from a German airshow, yes. I’m glad you liked the effect! Cheers, all the best : )
great stuff man! loving the ground spectator shot 9:35 which reminds me a lot of a real-life bf109 video i've watched a couple months ago on the _Warbirds_ channel (bf109 maiden flight with db 605). such magnificent aeroplanes!
Lmao a membership comment?? How dumb who would pay to comment while using the most censored platform to date?? A moron would lmao I love witnessing stupidity.
Thanks very much Gallo, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I watched a couple of Warbirds’ video ahead of this review - magnificent aeroplanes indeed! Cheers for watching and all the best to you : )
Thanks very much Underdog, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! In terms of the flight model, hands down the 109K wins (in fact, that addon always sticks in my mind as being one of the most convincing, when it comes to the “feeling” of flight). I jumped back into the DCS 109 just the other day, in order to compare and I have to say that visually, it’s looking a little bit dated now and I prefer the sounds of the MSFS 109 overall. Both are superb addons, I just find the DCS maps a little bit “uninspiring” these days and hence prefer flying in MSFS. Cheers and all the best! : )
Yes the visuals could do with a touch up, I agree. I love the flight model in DCS, it's such a handful on takeoff and there are about thirty different things you have to consider haha. And that characteristic howl of the DB 605 engine, complete with supercharger whine...... 😁
Absolutely, Josh; the BF-109 is another great effort from the FlyingIron team, their best to date in fact (in my opinion)! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks very much for watching and all the best : )
I agree Filipe (I did make that point during the review also). Hopefully FlyingIron can tweak the supercharger whine a bit and then they will have pretty much hit the nail on the head! Cheers and all the best : )
Top of the loop on the 109 is more of a flop, if you learn to use it its amazing in combat. Vertical fights let you out turn spits and zeros pretty handy. Turn in the verticals.
That looks like a lot of flap area for takeoff. It looks the same as full flaps for landing. 10 to 15 degrees is pretty much standard flap setting for takeoff; any more and drag starts taking hold. All that flap area looks like it would do more to keep the aircraft on the ground than it would serve to help get it airborne. Does the 109 need flaps for takeoff in a clean configuration?
Horses for courses I suppose, Roger. I love both versions of the 109, but tend to prefer cruising around these days and MSFS is undoubtedly the better sim for that sort of thing. I know a lot of people don’t enjoy warbirds in MSFS but for me, it’s the equivalent of somebody enjoying driving a classical car I guess. It’s just a pleasure to enjoy these vintage machines for what they are. I’m afraid I can’t take too much credit for the formation flying, as I was actually using an AI-generated wingman haha. Cheers and all the best! : )
It would be great if I could download files which I pay for. And at this point I am unable to download anything. Bought Gripen and cant download it. When trying to download, it reaches a point where it goes back to 0 and starts again. Nonsense.
Hi NIN, Are you downloading from a WiFi / dodgy internet connection by any chance? I used to have exactly the same issue and it was ultimately caused by my internet connection (though it’s still silly of course, that the sim simply resets the download back to zero). If you can, try downloading over a fixed connection and see if that fixes things for you. I hope that helps. All the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank You for Your reply. I have a stationary internet with my own router. I have managed to download Gripen yesterday. But then, i bought an AV8B Harrier II and that issue occured again. It stopped and started downloading again and it happened twice. Third time was successful.
My absolute pleasure, Ash! FlyingIron did such a great job with the sounds of the DB605 - that engine deserves to be heard ; ) Thanks very much once again!
Incidentally? @10:03 a +1 down nose on elevator trim? will ultimately provide a +1 Positive reaction.. Given enough airspeed, or flow over the airframe...( in G) as in Blood to head etc, so it is really positive. +1 nose down indication. In ALL cases here, You are by far THE Best evaluator of any virtual product for the FS2020 Simulator that i know of! I just Love to fly them, even less so when i crash them xD. I will take this opportunity now (given your very own love of warbirds.. I may task you to a duel.. *Take your weapons* (Spit/Bf109G6) I shall duel you in the virtual skies, although, given your professional knowledge of all things airbourne here.. I think i will stay grounded lol. Much Regards ITB!
I kind of see what you’re getting at there, Robin (though trimming nose down would induce negative g?), but I believe FlyingIron actually swapped the trim indications with the first patch, so presumably the indications were in error before haha. Thank you very much for the kind words and indeed your enthusiastic invitation (I hope you got my reply to your email)! Perhaps one day, I’ll catch you in the virtual skies ; ) Take care and have a great weekend!
they should fix the plastic tires :) i can't believe no one at FlyingIron Simulations noticed the shiny plastic toy tires and let it go :) come on guys just slap a good weathered rubber texture on tires and that's it :)
16:06 had me giggle a bit as the announcer talked about "a 3-cylinder radial engine with a mere 60 horsepower" while there was clearly something more interesting going on... 😄
I also found it funny, the announcer was talking about a Potez 60 that is stationed in Switzerland and flew over the English Channel a few years ago - I know the pilot, it's Guido Hug from St. Gallen. 😃
Haha, I knew someone would pick that up. Unfortunately, it was surprisingly difficult to find decent clips of air show footage without music or too much background noise. This was the best that I could manage to find XD Cheers!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Haha I can well imagine that, I was photographing at a lot of airshows for a long time, so I have developed a special ear. Nevertheless, as always, you have pushed this content to the top in terms of quality, many greetings (formerly zeitenrad).
Thank you very much for the kind words, Kelarius! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video : ) It’s been a long old while since I’ve been to an airshow, I really should get back to one sooner rather than later. Cheers and all the best!
Fantastic video. Being FlyingIrons I fully expected the plane to be marvelous. They have always delivered quality, and every patch improves the planes even more, and every new plane is even more well done than the previous. I don’t know how they manage to keep raising the bar on their products but they do. What I love about your videos is the theme you create around them so it is more than just a pure review. Air show angle was awesome, and the wingman addition really added a lot to it! Fabulous work as always.
Thank you very much, Vograx! I couldn’t agree more; FlyingIron just keep going from strength to strength and it’s even more impressive that their products receive significant improvements / updates after release, despite them already being excellent. As you say, I don’t know how they manage it haha. FlyingIron have definitely earned a spot on my “day 1 purchase” list at this point. I’m really glad you enjoyed the “airshow”! I love to create little stories and adventures, so it’s always very satisfying to hear that someone finds them fun : ) Many thanks again and all the best!
Thanks very much Josh, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! FlyingIron have already announced that they’re working on a FW190, so your hopes should come to fruition in the not-too-distant future : ) Cheers!
Thank you very much Marcel, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! I was using a program called Flight Control Replay. Amongst other things, FCR allows the user to create a virtual wingman and as you can see, the functionality works quite nicely. The addon can be purchased from Simmarket, if you’re interested : ) I hope that helps. All the best!
Once you fired up that BF109G6,,, (which i have also purchased by the site) Outside? I saw them Flameshoots out of the exhaust just like they did in the spit with DCS.. If i have missed it already? I'd certainly hope that their spit would do the same.. Perhaps i have missed that if so? maybe i need to upgrade? This BF109 is a TOTAL Beast when TO/Landing also.. ( Perform a full Starboard deflection on both rudder and aileron at the same time thus until full airflow over the airframe is achieved) sheesh! Whatch this one, it will really bite you hard if not taken care of in all stages of flight really. Regards
Hi Robin, I thought that the FI Spit did do the same with regards to the flame effects, but perhaps I am mistaken (it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to fly it). . . You’d certainly hope that their Spitfire would. . . spit fire haha! The BF-109 is indeed a total beast during the takeoff and the landing, it makes the Spitfire seem like a butterfly in comparison XD Best of luck with those landings! Happy flying and many thanks again : )
Great stuff! I'm looking forward to getting to grips with the 109's unique systems. To my ears, it's the first sim plane that has somewhat replicates the engine sound. I've heard a DB601 and it's quite bus-like at idle. Certainly no Merlin. Funnily enough, my grandfather destroyed several of these in WWII. He was probably the Luftwaffe's worst mechanic. (sorry I can't resist a bad joke)
Hi Roland, Haha well as always, the soundset seems to have divided opinion (although criticisms of the FI 109’s sounds, have been few and far between). Personally, I wasn’t convinced initially, but only because I didn’t believe that the 109 could really sound that “tractor-ish” internally - turns out it can XD Either way, I’ve found the 109 to be an absolute joy to fly, learn and listen to thus far. I shall be sure not to let “Opa Dutton” anywhere near it! : P Happy flying and all the best : )
I've been waiting a long time for one of these (though I wish it were an E or F without the huge machine gun tumors on the cowling--they would also handle better at low speeds, being a lot lighter...). It would have been interesting if, instead of a wingman in another 109, you had somebody in an Allied warbird and did a mock dogfight. Are Czech, Finnish, Swiss, or other non-Luftwaffe liveries available?
Haha, indeed Tanker; those machine gun blisters take the already tricky task of trying to land the 109, to a whole new level XD I had thought about a bit of a tail chase / dogfight, but I ultimately decided that I’ll save that idea for another day ; ) If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was only various Luftwaffe liveries included. I know some other liveries are now available over on Flightsim.to though and I’m sure there will be more to follow. Cheers and all the best : )
Thanks very much Pete, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, FlyingIron have done a cracking job with the soundset and indeed the 109 in general : ) Cheers and all the best! : )
Hi TY, An Me-262 would be brilliant and I could totally imagine FlyingIron pulling that one off! The Me-163 is indeed interesting, but I’m not sure even I would have much use for that one in MSFS haha. Cheers once again : )
As ever, a great review. Regarding the engine sounds comment at 32:55 I mentioned this at Sim Outhouse. A deep powerful purr when viewing the external model, but a bit clattery inside - what AvAngel calls the 'tractor factor'. However, I was linked to some videos, and it is indeed a lot more authentic than I would have first believed. It's also been pointed out that you can't wear a modern bone-dome helmet in the 109 due to lack of head room. Hopefully, as you say, a pilot figure in WW2 garb will be forthcoming. I've never been that enamoured with the 109 in flight simming, but this is irresistible. I'm reaching the point where I'll buy anything Flying Iron produces. They are absolutely superb. Thanks for the comprehensive review.
Thanks once again, Paul! Haha indeed; I was initially unimpressed with the internal sounds, but totally changed my opinion when I heard the real thing. I guess the larger displacement plays its part, but there is definitely a “tractor factor” XD I gather a period-appropriate pilot will be added at a later date (if the most recent patches haven’t taken care of that already). I’ve always loved the way that the DCS 109 “feels” to fly (very convincing overall), but other than that, I’ve never been all that enamoured with the Messer. That’s one of the things that I’ve loved with doing these sorts of reviews though, it tends to give me a new appreciation for the aircraft covered and indeed, I’m a big fan of the 109 now haha (one certainly can’t go far wrong with any of FI’s output!). My pleasure as always! All the best : )
they don't give you a period pilot option? No thanks to your partner? C'mon, Flying Iron. Let's get the Zero done. Brilliant work, as usual, Lad. Cheers!
Hi Mr Sunlander, As John kindly points out, a period pilot option will (apparently) be coming at a later date. My “wingman” was AI generated, so no loss of recognition on that one haha. A Zero from FlyingIron would be superb - one for a later date perhaps : ) I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. My pleasure and many thanks once again!
Hi MVR, Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yes; where possible, it’s always better to purchase military aircraft outside of the in-sim Marketplace. Any aircraft purchased directly in-sim, will have had its weapons, gunsights, military insignia, etc removed. I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best!
Hi Exoneer, You’re welcome to try my TrackIR profile, it’s available for download over on Flightsim.to (just search “Into the Blue” and you should find it). I hope that helps! All the best : )
Thanks very much Lead, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I jumped back into the DCS 109 just the other day actually. In terms of the flight model, hands down the 109K wins (in fact, that addon always sticks in my mind as being one of the most convincing, when it comes to the “feeling” of flight). I I have to say that visually, the K is looking a little bit dated now and I prefer the sounds of the MSFS 109 overall, but both addons are superb and both are complete handful, yes XD Cheers and all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations agree with you completely. The DCS model could do with an update. The MSFS 109 is now in my hanger due in large part to your excellent review. 😃
Was the wingman a copy of your plane at a displaced position or another player? Because going blind into the loop, almost losing it, and ending next to him would be quite impressive.
@@QBziZ It's FlightControlReplay by Fabio Merlo. It has an option for placing a so-called 'ghost' plane. The offset is completely controllable. I never record any movies or flights, just bought it for that option alone and have NEVER regret it.
Hello Wanderer, Haha, I wish I was that skilled, but actually I was using a program called Flight Control Replay. Amongst other things, FCR allows the user to create a virtual wingman and as you can see, the functionality works quite nicely (the AI essentially just follows your flight path). The addon can be purchased from Simmarket, if you’re interested : ) I hope that helps. All the best!
My pleasure Michael! For the roll behaviour, I just set aileron trim using the tablet and go with a setting that works nicely at typical cruise speeds. I’m assuming the 109 only had a fixed trim tab in roll, so setting and forgetting on the ground is probably the most realistic option. That being said, if I find myself in the cruise and not able to relax due to the roll behaviour, I’ll simply readjust the setting (your method would work nicely also). I hope that helps. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thx you :) I Switched to leaving it also at a setting that roughly makes it fly level at a certain throttle.1.1 ata for cruise
Hi Santa Six, For sure, each sim tends to have its own strengths and weaknesses and high speed aerodynamics / manoeuvring at the edge of the flight envelope, are not strengths of MSFS. I do prefer the flight model of the DCS 109 but, these days I generally just like to cruise around and for that sort of thing, there’s no better sim than MSFS (unfortunately, the maps in DCS just feel a bit dated / restrictive). Your observations generally aren’t unreasonable though. To be fair, I have virtually zero authority on the subject also haha, never having flown a warbird myself. Cheers and all the best : )
Hi Victor, I haven’t tried a canopy jettison myself, but I would imagine you’d have to go into the maintenance page of the EFB and reset something there? Let me know if that’s of any help. Cheers and all the best : )
I agree with this being the best warbird currently in MSFS, and I feel kind of bad about it! I'm a massive P-51D fan, but sadly the available options for P-51 are very lacking when compared to Flying Iron and Milviz/Blackbird.
Haha! Well, likewise Swango; it pains me to admit that I enjoyed the 109 even more than the Spit XD I just finished recording a new video with the AH P-51. I’m not sure when I’ll be uploading that one, but I modded the sounds / flight model of the aircraft and the addon “polishes up” quite nicely. Still, I’d love to see a FlyingIron or A2A Mustang at some point! Cheers and all the best : )
Thanks you very much once again, SW. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! Haha. Obviously I don’t have any real-world experience with the 109, but I hear it can be a handful. FlyingIron have done a pretty good job at replicating that XD Cheers and all the best : )
Thank-you, thank-you so very much for another most informative review.. This is Guerry from the States, and when it comes to aircraft reviews, iTB is far and beyond my favorite “UA-cam” channel for new MSFS addon products. By no means have I made a shrine to your channel. But your reviews contain the most salient aspects of a product, and you package it in a video that is not too long to bring snoozes from the audience and not too short for the audience to feel starved for information. I guess that is sufficient to satiate my sycophantic obsequious intent to gain favor (JUST KIDDING!). As with you, I’ll state what I did not like before that which I did. Actually, this is not so much a complaint as it is a disappointment. I have many more hours of practicing with other aircraft before I ever attempt to tackle the BF-109 and enjoy it. This is where replicating flight characteristics so well has backfired to a degree Face it; fighter aircraft have one purpose. They exist to mitigate an opponent’s aerial advantage(s). In the case of the BF-109 and others, they are essentially a package of canon(s) and machineguns that have to fly fast with the dexterity and coordination of an Olympic gymnast. Furthermore, these WW2 warbirds weighed about the same as general aviation aircraft, but were powered by thousands of horsepower cranking a propeller that weighed-in at a quarter of an imperial ton. On takeoff, the pilot cannot apply full power until air passed over the control surfaces fast enough to overcome the tremendous torque generated by the engine turning that huge propeller. Otherwise, one might find himself upside down, making a takeoff much more difficult. Given all their advantages, they are very unforgiving. But please do not misunderstand me. I would jump in the cockpit in a New York minute if I had the skill. I love to fly cross country, but I also like to get to my destination in a timely manner. In MSFS, I can fly any aircraft I want, and the maintenance and fuel are free When it comes to what I most earnestly appreciate, the detail FlyingIron put into this simulator almost pops from the monitor as a 3D image. It is absolutely beautiful. It is stunning. It is the most realistic resolution I have seen yet in an addon. FlyingIron should spend the afternoon on me patting each employee on the back in a most sincere manner. Furthermore, as far as I could tell from my past, in-depth research into WW2 fighters, their BF-109 imitates exceptionally close to the real aircraft. The designing staff and programmers have definitely earned their pay with this software. I have already described my disappointment with MSFS for not allowing weapons to be shown, et. al. For anyone who has read this far and wishes to know my reasoning, I will happily repeat my statements. Again, thank-you so very much for introducing us to FlyingIron’s BF-109. I highly encourage replies to my comment, whether good or bad. For my primary objective for subscribing to this channel is to learn from whomever is willing to enlighten me.
Haha! Feel free to try and “gain my favour” as much as you like, Guerry : P In all seriousness though, thank you very much for your kind words regarding the channel / it’s content! I can see what you mean regarding the trickiness of the 109 and indeed, the aircraft is not a great option for everyone; but I suppose we can’t hold FlyingIron to account, for trying to faithfully recreate the Messer in all of its challenging glory. As with any aircraft, practice makes perfect ; ) I 100% agree regarding the weapons and actually, since FlyingIron market the 109 directly, they are free to add weapons should they so wish. So far, we’ve yet to see any such functionality on their products, but the addition of visually modelled weapons / visually modelled effects (as we’ve seen on the MILVIZ Corsair), seems to me like the next logical step they should be taking, to enhance their (already excellent) products further. Once again, thank you very much for your thoughts. Happy flying and have a great weekend! : )
Sorry for the slow reply StorageShock. At the time of recording, the 109 was only available from the FlyingIron website, but I believe it may also now be available from the in-sim Marketplace (and if it isn’t yet, it should be soon : ) I hope that helps. All the best!
Haha, it’s not quite correct, unfortunately. The video has about 30 dislikes but in fairness, it wouldn’t matter what one created / posted on the internet, there’ll always be someone that hates what you’re doing XD As you say though, the 109 is a beautiful effort from FlyingIron! Cheers and all the best : )
Haha alas, I can’t really take any credit on that one, Goalski. I was using FlightControlReplay, a program with many features, one of which is creating an AI generated wingman, which essentially mimics the users flight profile. So as far as any formation flying went, that required virtually zero skill on my part XD Cheers though. All the best! : )
Hi Skaska, I did indeed. For the internal shots I used the “Ghost” function, but for the external shots I first recorded the flight and then used the “AI” function (playback with 2 aircraft, offset from one another). Lastly I used the (experimental) “Follow AI” function and that’s what I actually recorded. Some of the function names may differ slightly, but hopefully that gives you enough of an idea to set you on the right track. I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
I’m not really sure, TO. I would imagine it should be possible, but any kind of landing in the 109 is tricky haha. The aircraft does seem to want to naturally settle in the 3-point attitude. Sorry that I don’t have more info for you on that one. All the best! : )
Hello Marc, I will probably make some sort of video with the aircraft at some point, but I have something more “artistic” in mind, rather than a typical review. I’ll most likely be taking a look at the B307 first (when time allows) and have a couple of other video projects to follow up on also. In short, I would like to take a look at the aircraft, but it’s not a priory at the moment I’m afraid. Thank you very much for the suggestion though! Cheers and all the best : )
I can't use pedals. People have insisted that it's possible to get one of these animals off the ground with a twist stick but I don't think I ever managed a take off in DCS :D I wonder if this things is any more forgiving?
Hi Sapfu, The addon might be slightly more forgiving, if only because you’ll initially need full rudder input during the takeoff, ie the relative sensitivity of a twist-grip shouldn’t be a problem. That being said, the 109 is probably still going to be somewhat of a handful; indeed the aircraft is a tricky beast with any sort of a setup haha XD I hope that helps a little. Cheers and all the best! : )
Damn the amount of detail is gorgeous... I would love to see the artist responsible recreate vintage WW1 fighters.
WW2*
@@ColSanders2 he means to see the people who made this to make some ww1 planes
Flying Iron Sim should make a Ju-87 Stuka or the He-111 bomber...
Imagine a combat flight sim where every single plane in the game was study level with these sounds and visuals. The community is long overdue for something like this. Asobo should work together with the il2 team and irom simulations to make something truly great....My dream, anyway :-(
so basicly dcs but for ww2
Imagine a game perfectly optimized...keep imagine it..
@@justincase9033 DCS has WWII planes and map already, and in my opinion DCS has better sound on the WWII Planes, MSFS did not have the whistling sound from the supercharger.
The combat sim you are looking for is DCS World.
Il2 is.
Cracking video and review as always, that extra effort you put in with the local crowd ambience and fly-bys make your productions a joy to watch!
Thank you very much, Samuel! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video / experience. I certainly try to make my videos more than “just” a review : )
Very kind of your to say. Much appreciated and all the best to you!
Il-2 great battle series for ww2 planes, dcs for jets
Aces High is by far the best for ww2 air combat
A fun little note, if you select the tropical filter the aircraft also has mounts added next to the cockpit. If the temperature is warm enough, an umbrella will be fitted for some shade.
Great to know. Thank-you for the information.
I accidentally made my canopy disappear
Haha! I didn’t spot that one at the time Nick, but indeed it does! A very nice little touch XD
Thanks very much for the info! All the best : )
Hello Jackson,
You firstly need to make sure that you have the BF109’s prop control set to manual (as demonstrated in the video).
Few notes on the review:
-Radiator open = arrow right, not down
-If tooltips are enabled, you can see plug fouling status right on the lever.
Hello Tomas,
Great to hear that you’re enjoying the 109 and I very much agree re the number 1 spot!
- Haha indeed, I did mess up the operation of the radiator. I noticed whilst watching the video back; initially the control was in shadow, so I didn’t see the text there on the right of the control.
- Tooltips?? Come now, that wouldn’t be very befitting of one of my videos : P
- Yes, very true re the Workshop feature and it’s great to see FlyingIron flesh out that functionality further.
- Your other points are noted and good to know. Cheers!
Thanks for the info, much appreciated! Happy flying once again : )
People be looking up going : *Ohhhh Shit here we go again*
I've seen a 109 e3 fly several times in person. This sounds pretty close to the real deal. Excellent work, I had to get it.
Hi DC,
The soundset is indeed a thoroughly impressive effort from FlyingIron!
It is indeed a great little spot, as is LOWZ : )
Cheers. Happy flying and all the best!
Looks like a aircraft i would do long flights with.
And yes, i would be using the autopilot for most the trip as i don't have a flight stick or pedals as what i do have to use is an XBox PC controller, that or mouse and keyboard.
Man have been flying this exclusively for a couple of days. Flyingiron really knock everything out of the park.
I shall go away and give it another try and then come crawling back if it’s still a complete disaster ; )
Much appreciated, all the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations sometimes on my solo flights I’d spend the entire hour throwing it upside down, free as a bird! Best of luck, happy to help 👍🏻
I know folks who have flown the buchon... Its a handful at least and yes, in real life it is near impossible to fly but a beautiful one indeed!!
nearly 20 years worth of flying virutal 109s, this is the only one that gets the engine sound right. amazing
I believe I noticed the gear coming up at the very same time. If you ever see a actual me-109 take off each one comes up separately I think 🤔
6:43 that's a result of the prop pitch continuing to change, as you will see in the gauge to the right of it.
Ah, good spot there, Fliegen! Cheers, all the best : )
Another superb review, editing is so good and love that there is always a story or mission to showcase the plane being reviewed.
Great vid, thanks for sharing. The visual model is beautiful and seems realistic with its quirks.
Haha! Well, I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the Messer, Davide ; )
The MSFS version perhaps lacks a little depth in some areas vs the DCS version, but I’d say it’s swings and roundabouts, with the MSFS version having better visuals and sounds.
If you happen to pass by FlyingIron, tell them "Hello" from me. Ha... Ha!
@@Guerry-3 I'll do that!!
Believe me, if I could have found some decent 109 commentary, I would have used it haha ; )
I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content to such a degree!
Graphics and sound are pretty realistic
Although they never sent them full throttle at Tannkosh… unfortunately.
Nice to see home airport in one of your videos.
Greetings from Memmingen near EDMT
Thanks very much Max, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and indeed a little bit of “Tannkosh” haha. I guess these old birds never get pushed to the limits these days (understandably), but that’s one of the brilliant things about enjoying them in the sim - one can firewall the throttle and pull some g, without worrying about the consequences and / or the bill XD
Thanks very much for watching and all the best to you! : )
Would be lovely to see MS design a combat simulator, but we do still have DCS and IL2.
Hi Anthony,
I would love to see Microsoft bring back their Combat Flight Simulator franchise, but sadly it seems they have no intention of doing so. As you say, at least we do have some great alternatives these days : )
Cheers, all the best!
still miss combat sim WW2 Pacific. This looks like a must have !
It sounds like your experiences with the aircraft, have very much mirrored my own haha XD
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video, my pleasure as always! Happy flying : )
1998 Microsoft Flight Similator was my all time favorite
I have very fond memories of FS98 also, YATD - it was the first flight sim that I got to try for myself! MSFS is clearly leaps and bounds ahead today but, pound for pound, I think FS2004 is probably my favourite sim of the franchise : )
Cheers, all the best!

Excellent video, the APU was a heinkel two stroke. I had a nsu and jawa. Anyway thanks for the great times, take care.
Thanks very much James, I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight! My pleasure on the video. Hope you’re keeping well : )
i believe Mark Hanna was piloting one of these when he crashed back in 1999,
I believe you’re correct, BrickUnit - the Spanish-built version of the 109 anyway. RIP.
All the best!
Ground speed is very important with takeoff with the 109.
The point you raise is one I often make myself; whilst generally I’m all for accuracy, sometimes “artistic licence” just makes things that much better ; )
Cheers once again!
Boah, der Sound am Anfang, absolut geil.
Amazing! Although, slightly disappointed you didn't say "dacka, dacka, dacka" when flying low over the airstrip 😆
Haha!! Ahhh, gutted that I missed a trick there, Jeff! Another time perhaps XD
I’m really glad that you enjoyed the “airshow” though. Thank you very much for watching and all the best : )
A nice touch would’ve been the wheels/ landing gear to continue spinning for a couple of more seconds after takeoff.
The sound is something else in this one.
That is great news about the P-38, which is my favorite WW2 warbird. Thank-you for the information.
judging by the dialect you pulled some real sound from an airshow in Tannheim. Nice
Hi PilotFlo
Haha, well it’s not from Tannheim (though I did initially try to find something suitable from Tannkosh), but I did pull the audio from a German airshow, yes. I’m glad you liked the effect!

Great video.
I much prefer the Kurfürst in DCS, but the same can be said for all of the warbirds, imo.
Would love to have seen you two guys log on with a couple of Spitfire pilots. Do a little tail chasing.
Haha well quite possibly, that is something I’ll look to do at a later date, Jnl ; )
Cheers!
Looks like another fantastic addition by FlyingIron!
Great editing, by the way. 👌
Absolutely, Josh; the BF-109 is another great effort from the FlyingIron team, their best to date in fact (in my opinion)!
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks very much for watching and all the best : )
Love your review of this aircraft. Will be getting mine tonight.
Thanks very much Reaper, I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight! I do hope you’re having fun with the 109G also.
Happy flying and all the best! : )
I was waiting for your review!!!!! your the Best Cheers Matey
Ah well thank very much JC, very kind of you to say! I do hope you enjoyed it. My absolute pleasure on the video and all the best to you! : )
it's missing a bit of it's powerful whistle, specially on flybys, other than that, great sounding aircraft.
Nice tip, Michael. Cheers! : )
Still the best, and most informative flight sim reviews by a country mile. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you very much Albert, very kind of you to say! I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the content. Thanks for watching and all the best : )
One of my favorite planes in DCS. Don't get the point in MSFS. Beautiful tandem flying. !
Nonsense.
Hi NIN,
Are you downloading from a WiFi / dodgy internet connection by any chance? I used to have exactly the same issue and it was ultimately caused by my internet connection (though it’s still silly of course, that the sim simply resets the download back to zero). If you can, try downloading over a fixed connection and see if that fixes things for you.
I hope that helps. All the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank You for Your reply. I have a stationary internet with my own router. I have managed to download Gripen yesterday. But then, i bought an AV8B Harrier II and that issue occured again. It stopped and started downloading again and it happened twice. Third time was successful.
Once again, thanks for giving room for that engine!
My absolute pleasure, Ash! FlyingIron did such a great job with the sounds of the DB605 - that engine deserves to be heard ; )
Thanks very much once again!
great plane! it's a pity there are no scratches on the glass(
Incidentally?
Perhaps one day, I’ll catch you in the virtual skies ; )
Take care and have a great weekend!
they should fix the plastic tires :) i can't believe no one at FlyingIron Simulations noticed the shiny plastic toy tires and let it go :) come on guys just slap a good weathered rubber texture on tires and that's it :)
This was the best that I could manage to find XD
Cheers!
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video : )
It’s been a long old while since I’ve been to an airshow, I really should get back to one sooner rather than later.
Cheers and all the best!
Is the gun firing switch still there? Great video. Thank you.
Hello TT, the guns don’t work I’m afraid, no. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! My pleasure and all the best to you : )
It’s a BEAUTIFUL model
I love to create little stories and adventures, so it’s always very satisfying to hear that someone finds them fun : )
Many thanks again and all the best!
Thank you! great Video! I hope to see a Fw190 from FlyingIron Simulations someday
Thanks very much Josh, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! FlyingIron have already announced that they’re working on a FW190, so your hopes should come to fruition in the not-too-distant future : )
Cheers!
A superb warbird in a superb video! Well done and edited as usual. Can you tell me how you do those flybys? An extra Software?
Was thinking the same thing, would be nice to have an AI wingman sometimes.
Thank you very much Marcel, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video!
I was using a program called Flight Control Replay. Amongst other things, FCR allows the user to create a virtual wingman and as you can see, the functionality works quite nicely. The addon can be purchased from Simmarket, if you’re interested : )
I hope that helps. All the best!
16:03 "With this 3-Cylinder Radial Engine with just about 60hp, build year 1934"..? I don't think that's right haha
Haha! Indeed, a few cylinders and horsepower short perhaps. . . ; )
Regards
Hi Robin,
I thought that the FI Spit did do the same with regards to the flame effects, but perhaps I am mistaken (it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to fly it). . . You’d certainly hope that their Spitfire would. . . spit fire haha!
The BF-109 is indeed a total beast during the takeoff and the landing, it makes the Spitfire seem like a butterfly in comparison XD
Best of luck with those landings!
You are indeed funny! I'm glad to hear MSFS pilots have a sense of humor.
Hi Roland,
Haha well as always, the soundset seems to have divided opinion (although criticisms of the FI 109’s sounds, have been few and far between). Personally, I wasn’t convinced initially, but only because I didn’t believe that the 109 could really sound that “tractor-ish” internally - turns out it can XD
Either way, I’ve found the 109 to be an absolute joy to fly, learn and listen to thus far. I shall be sure not to let “Opa Dutton” anywhere near it! : P
Happy flying and all the best : )
Awesome editing of intro!
Thank you very much Ken, I’m glad you enjoyed it! : )
Haha, indeed Tanker; those machine gun blisters take the already tricky task of trying to land the 109, to a whole new level XD
I had thought about a bit of a tail chase / dogfight, but I ultimately decided that I’ll save that idea for another day ; )
If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was only various Luftwaffe liveries included. I know some other liveries are now available over on Flightsim.to though and I’m sure there will be more to follow.
Cheers and all the best : )
Great video, engine sounds amazing!
Thanks very much Pete, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, FlyingIron have done a cracking job with the soundset and indeed the 109 in general : )
Cheers and all the best! : )
I wonder if the Me-262 is in the works or even the always interesting Me-163
Hi TY,
An Me-262 would be brilliant and I could totally imagine FlyingIron pulling that one off!
I guess the larger displacement plays its part, but there is definitely a “tractor factor” XD
I gather a period-appropriate pilot will be added at a later date (if the most recent patches haven’t taken care of that already).
Cheers!
Pilot is being added... it wasn't completed at time of release, and they said it will be added in a near term update.
Thanks very much for the info, John. That’s great to know! : )
Hi Mr Sunlander,
As John kindly points out, a period pilot option will (apparently) be coming at a later date. My “wingman” was AI generated, so no loss of recognition on that one haha. A Zero from FlyingIron would be superb - one for a later date perhaps : )
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. My pleasure and many thanks once again!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Right-O, and Tally Ho, Into the Blue!
Great review! Do you get more features purchasing directly from Developer vs MSFS store?
Hi MVR,
Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Yes; where possible, it’s always better to purchase military aircraft outside of the in-sim Marketplace. Any aircraft purchased directly in-sim, will have had its weapons, gunsights, military insignia, etc removed.
I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Awesome, good info. Thanks!

Great vid as usual. Have you tried the K version in DCS? That’s a handful as well!
I I have to say that visually, the K is looking a little bit dated now and I prefer the sounds of the MSFS 109 overall, but both addons are superb and both are complete handful, yes XD
Cheers and all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations agree with you completely. The DCS model could do with an update. The MSFS 109 is now in my hanger due in large part to your excellent review. 😃
Ahh well that’s great to hear, Lead. I do hope you’re enjoying the aircraft! Many thanks, happy flying and all the best : )
Was the wingman a copy of your plane at a displaced position or another player? Because going blind into the loop, almost losing it, and ending next to him would be quite impressive.
It would soooo good if someone created an addon to do that. A wingman to follow your lead.
Sky Dolly
@@QBziZ It's FlightControlReplay by Fabio Merlo. It has an option for placing a so-called 'ghost' plane. The offset is completely controllable. I never record any movies or flights, just bought it for that option alone and have NEVER regret it.
Hello Wanderer,
Haha, I wish I was that skilled, but actually I was using a program called Flight Control Replay. Amongst other things, FCR allows the user to create a virtual wingman and as you can see, the functionality works quite nicely (the AI essentially just follows your flight path). The addon can be purchased from Simmarket, if you’re interested : )
I hope that helps. All the best!
Close CFS, it was actually Flight Control Replay. Thanks very much for offering up the help though! : )
the ground handeling is poor (taxing turning) nice bird but the spitfire was superior from mk9
Thx again for the review. How do you handle the roll ? I use aileron trim hotkeys but is this how it is supposed to be done ?
I have zero authority in this. But I found that warbirds felt different between FS and Combat sims. They feel like heavy GA planes in FS.
Hi Santa Six,
For sure, each sim tends to have its own strengths and weaknesses and high speed aerodynamics / manoeuvring at the edge of the flight envelope, are not strengths of MSFS.
When I jettison the canopy, it disappear ps when I restart the flight. How do I get the canopy back?
Hi Victor,
I haven’t tried a canopy jettison myself, but I would imagine you’d have to go into the maintenance page of the EFB and reset something there?
Let me know if that’s of any help. Cheers and all the best : )
Thanks. I figured it out now :)
Ah great! Happy to hear that you got things sorted : )
I agree with this being the best warbird currently in MSFS, and I feel kind of bad about it! I'm a massive P-51D fan, but sadly the available options for P-51 are very lacking when compared to Flying Iron and Milviz/Blackbird.
Haha! Well, likewise Swango; it pains me to admit that I enjoyed the 109 even more than the Spit XD
I just finished recording a new video with the AH P-51. I’m not sure when I’ll be uploading that one, but I modded the sounds / flight model of the aircraft and the addon “polishes up” quite nicely. Still, I’d love to see a FlyingIron or A2A Mustang at some point!
Cheers and all the best : )
Great review as always, thank you!
..good lord that thing looks so dangerous and unforgiving irl.
😬💥☠️
Thanks you very much once again, SW. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video!
Haha. Obviously I don’t have any real-world experience with the 109, but I hear it can be a handful. FlyingIron have done a pretty good job at replicating that XD
Cheers and all the best : )
In MSFS, I can fly any aircraft I want, and the maintenance and fuel are free
When it comes to what I most earnestly appreciate, the detail FlyingIron put into this simulator almost pops from the monitor as a 3D image.
Haha! Feel free to try and “gain my favour” as much as you like, Guerry : P
In all seriousness though, thank you very much for your kind words regarding the channel / it’s content!
I can see what you mean regarding the trickiness of the 109 and indeed, the aircraft is not a great option for everyone; but I suppose we can’t hold FlyingIron to account, for trying to faithfully recreate the Messer in all of its challenging glory. As with any aircraft, practice makes perfect ; )
I 100% agree regarding the weapons and actually, since FlyingIron market the 109 directly, they are free to add weapons should they so wish.
Cant wait to buy this
So is the BF 109 in the MSFS marketplace or is on a website?
Sorry for the slow reply StorageShock. At the time of recording, the 109 was only available from the FlyingIron website, but I believe it may also now be available from the in-sim Marketplace (and if it isn’t yet, it should be soon : )
I hope that helps. All the best!
lol don't know if the browser dislike mod is correct but this video says 0 dislikes. And I see why lol. Beautiful model.
Haha, it’s not quite correct, unfortunately. The video has about 30 dislikes but in fairness, it wouldn’t matter what one created / posted on the internet, there’ll always be someone that hates what you’re doing XD
As you say though, the 109 is a beautiful effort from FlyingIron! Cheers and all the best : )
that formation flying 😍
Haha alas, I can’t really take any credit on that one, Goalski. I was using FlightControlReplay, a program with many features, one of which is creating an AI generated wingman, which essentially mimics the users flight profile. So as far as any formation flying went, that required virtually zero skill on my part XD
Cheers though. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations 😂🤣😂 well that explains it!
Haha, I wish I was that skilled! XD
@@IntotheBlueSimulations 😂 i was impressed!
Hi. Did you record with flightcontrolreplay? I cant record the ghostplane that is with me.
Hi Skaska,
I did indeed.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you a lot. Guys like you inspired me to do videos too :)
You’re most welcome. That’s awesome! Best of luck with it all : )
OMG...the sounds!!!
Is it possible to do a wheel (two point) landing on the 109?
I’m not really sure, TO. I would imagine it should be possible, but any kind of landing in the 109 is tricky haha. The aircraft does seem to want to naturally settle in the 3-point attitude.
Sorry that I don’t have more info for you on that one. All the best! : )
Any plans on doing a video on the new local legend?😊
Hello Marc,
I will probably make some sort of video with the aircraft at some point, but I have something more “artistic” in mind, rather than a typical review.
Great video well done, as always 👍
Thank you very much Ryan, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Much appreciated and all the best to you : )
great model
I can't use pedals. People have insisted that it's possible to get one of these animals off the ground with a twist stick but I don't think I ever managed a take off in DCS :D I wonder if this things is any more forgiving?
Hi Sapfu,
The addon might be slightly more forgiving, if only because you’ll initially need full rudder input during the takeoff, ie the relative sensitivity of a twist-grip shouldn’t be a problem. That being said, the 109 is probably still going to be somewhat of a handful; indeed the aircraft is a tricky beast with any sort of a setup haha XD
I hope that helps a little. Cheers and all the best! : )
