I know very little about the Brave 7 LE and was looking at buying that but the 8 looks better. I want to mount the camera upside down, essentially hanging from the bottom side of the wing on my plane. I'm wondering if the image will be upside down when viewed on the remote, iPhone, pc screen or on a tv (if that can be done with an HDMI cable?
Hey, I am a youtuber from UK and I don't think I have ever commented on your videos, I just wanted to say I love your channel, I bought the AKASO v50 and the Enacfire earphones and the Voical wireless mic because of your reviews. Long time watcher but huge fan and an inspiration, Keep up the great work
I was looking at your previous review where you put the Akaso Action Cams together as I am currently looking for one and was looking at going towards the Brave 7. My main reason for wanting one is for when I am out cycling. However hearing (no pun intended) about the audio issues and now seeing this I don't know whether to hold out or look at the Brave 6. This video helped loads and was a great first insight so thank you
Massive congratulations to Akaso, and a big thank you for looking after your customers. Personally, I am very excited about this action camera. I think it is very nice. Massive upgrade. Great review.
Wow, and damn it now I plan on getting the Akaso Brave 8 it looks good to use as a second camera as long as the color is not baked in " I like doing the color grading" it looks like a keeper for now. Thank you for taking the time to show this product.
I have recently bought the 7LE. By the looks of it, the Brave 8, is a much bigger upgrade; than I expected. I wish I had caught your video, before buying the 7LE. Having said that, I have been very pleased with the results I am getting. I am having to use an external recorder for the sound though, which is another piece of kit I have to set up. The sound quality in the Brave 8 is a 100 times better than what is on the 7LE. Still obviously not as good as a dedicated sound recorder. So even if I bought the brave 8, I think I would still use my recorder, to record the sound; especially in windy conditions. This is a great review, from someone who knows what he's talking about. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to further posts from you.
Sounds like Akaso finally got the sound problem and did something about it. About time! Yeah, the handling sounds came thru really load; highly annoying. Also annoying: the need to 'activate' your camera; I really hate that! All my DSLRs that I've bought over the years I could use straight out of the box, cheap action cams too: no 'activation' and the same goes for all the cars I've bought over the years: no need to 'register' or 'activate'. Brave 8 is not very good at compensating for backlit situations. Video overal looks pretty good imo.
Great review! Man, the audio on this Brave 8 is 10x better than the Brave 7! I returned two of the Brave 7s I had because of the horrible audio quality. It sucks that I had to return them because I really did like the Brave 7. Quite frankly I think Akaso does a better job with their touch screen and user menu system in comparison with the GoPro cameras. I would like to get a Brave 8, but unfortunately Akaso doesn't equip any of their action cameras with GPS.
I watched your video on the updated Brave 7 and it did eventually push me into buying it in september last year because although the mic wasn't good, I could use the external mic and it was just the best for its price. I sporadically look around from time to time to see what the newer ones do better and to gauge when the best time to upgrade is and I must admit I am kicking myself slightly for not waiting. The internal mic on this is so much better. Ah well, lessons learned, and not being an expert/constant user of the camera I can't complain for the price point. It is nice to see that the company actually listens to everyday users like yourself and makes adjustments based on that though, means that by the time the 9/10 comes out in the next couple of years, we will have a gopro competitor on our hands in terms of every aspect and not just price point.
Thanks I really enjoyed that video. Because of you I have decided to finally give Akaso a chance. I feel they have truly come a long way. I would say they are the number 1 Gopro on a Budget Alternative! Thanks for all the video's throughout the years!
Looks like a winner. Can’t wait to get one when it’s available here in Canada. The other name brand is upwards of 700-800 up here. The Brave 8 is listed at $279 in Canada but no stock as of Oct.16, 2021.
Greetings from Venezuela. I like your way of explaining in detail a wonderful team, friend, the akaso 8 looks really good, you can see that the audio improved a lot and its advice I just noticed that it does not bring the case to submerge it in the water more than 40 meters but it is already a lot to demand activate the bell to be aware of everything
I've watched your videos on the differences in the Akaso cameras, very helpful. However, at this point, I just need to understand which camera is the best for underwater use like snorkeling? Are there any big differences from one to another in this realm?
as my videos are mainly studio based this seems a great choice for my needs... lovely house ol chap..only got up to 17 mins and my mind is made.. lets see the rest , I cant see it will change.
I've been aggressively learning about Gopro alternatives (they are just too far overpriced now). I was interested in the Akaso Brave 7, but the second I heard your audio on the 8, SOLD!!!
Hi! Just watched your review on the Brave 8. I understand the audio improvement is much better than 7LE. I am having a hard time getting my head around the fact that the Brave 8 is twice as much as the 7LE. Will the microphone attachment on the 7LE compensate for the in camera microphone? Also does the 8 accommodate an external microphone? What GoPro model would be an equivalent to the eight? With such a price increase I’m thinking if I get up to that price level I may as well go GoPro…
Ouch! I just ordered the brave 7 because of the EIS and low light video. But was very hesitant because it doesn't have a 1/4 mount at the bottom. I'm planning on using it to record trail rides on my sxs. Then i see this video ☹️. Just give test the 7 on a few rides. If I'm not happy I'll jump on that brave 8. Thanks for the great videos
This was a super good unboxing. You were really "real" and I liked that A LOT. I'm a newbie to action cams but I'm looking for one with a mic jack and image stablilization for cycling. Those dang phone apps always suck, no matter what the camera. I wish this had a mic jack. Especially with a Rode Wireless Go. Were you using a selfie stick??? I'd lkill myself with a selife stick, LOL! Luckily you could contact the company. Please tell them to put in a darn mic jack, please!
Video and stabilization where just fine from my point of view. Both with stabilization on and off. Sound quality was ok, muted somewhat, but no problems. I thought it sounded better when you were outside compared to inside. Pricing seems about right so it's pretty much in the affordable range. Looking forward to the bike ride with this. Hey, your driveway looks good with the steps to the back yard removed.
Thanks! awesome that you noticed! And the sound was untouched so we could definitely play with it to get it to be better. But very pleased with the improved audio.
New subscriber here. Thnx for the video/info. Very clear and informative. I am searching for an action camera and came across your unboxing. Would you know when will the camera be available on the market???
Why do they refuse to put 3.5mm inputs into action cams? Or at least make them compatible with generic phone adapters at least. I would actually consider one of these if I could use a external mic of my choice and a USB power bank at the same time..
I love the idea with the touch screen and the front screen idea. I think it would need an extra mic and wind sock. The price is a little high.I would like to see how the external mic works. I would also like to know how long you can record for one battery.
for sure.... I wasn't able to buy the Brave 7 because it was out of stock (even mailed with them), and they sneaky released the brave 8...... Now I have to wait again..... can't wait to get my hands on it. it's way better than the 7. Because I finally want to shoot my bands videoclip
Inability to open the USB/SD access door when the camera is in the mounting case is a design flaw of the mounting case. I had to completely remove the slender portion of plastic and even trim the back cover to clear the door. The mount is still structurally sound, but this will need to be fixed. I use a battery pack to extend the recording time, so I have to have access to this port. I sent an email to AKASO about this issue.
Interesting. It's amazing how much they've copied the OsmoAction. I know they're not alone in that endeavor. What's strange is that DJI has scrapped that project and I doubt there'll be a version 2 of the OA. Oh well, looks like Akaso has taken the baton and is running with it. Good video.
Have you seen the leaks of the OA2? It's definitely a game changer in its own way. Hope the leaks are true, which seems they are. I'm just waiting for the OA2 at this point, because it's gonna land sooner than we think.
i'm looking for a camera to shoot my bow hunting and range shooting. i don't want to spend for a go pro. I sure could use my Nikon D750 but it's quite big to carry around and not to fit for this kind of use. i saw the Akaso and started to listen to your review. Would you suggest the akaso for this ? and witch one would be fit?. i don't really want to use the external mic and i don't need excellent sound.
maybe i'll try to buy this level of action camare on next year if iam recieved my little penssion from sss. thank you for sharing this video. senior citizen from naic cavite. philippines
I ordered it before I saw any of the videos except the teaser trailer. I have an ek7000 and a v50x and am pretty happy with both of them. I was going to get a 7 but with the audio issues and the 8 on the horizon I figured I'd wait. I use mine for recording flight logs so I might have slightly weird requirements.
I enjoyed your review of the Brave 8. Just subscribed. Do you have any idea when it will be released in Canada? Do they tend to make us wait here in the Great White North? Thanks for your insights!
Can I use this camera with USB instead of batteries cause I need one to video conferencing with the family ( I have a pc at home I will not use it to video outside the house only inside and it will be on top of my monitor) best regards
I watched the bike ride first. Audio is quite acceptable. The "normal" stabiliztion seems to work as well as I would expect in a budget camera (or better). My computer crashes when i try 4K footage. Also my older cameras have a top resolution of 1080 p/ 60 fps so that's what I usually shoot so all the frame rates sync better. Could you do some testing at 1080?
Looks?? (sounds, ) like they solved the audio. Very interested in how the ride goes. Was the case on in this video? If I remember correctly there was no sound at all with the 7 with the case. Followed the link, couldn't find a price. If it's not too bad this could be my choice. (Though I am looking for a used Hero 8 at H....'s.)
the audio is better on this Akaso than most other models. However it lacks in light compensation when changing from light to dark scenes. Also the back light is terrible on this. Meaning when you were sitting in front of the window it did not properly compensate to get a clear picture of you. All in all a better camera from Akaso, but still with a couple of major issues. I do not know what this camera will sell for but my guess is it would not be worth more than $120 to $130..
I want to upgrade from my prism tube helmet, mount camera, and my GoPro hero, three that I use on my helmets, while riding my motorcycles, with external microphones, mounted inside my helmet in the ear pockets because of the wind roar.. I want to upgrade, I did not know features like stabilization even existed until 2024 when I started shopping for a better quality camera that I use for my UA-cam channel that I started a couple years ago basically dealing with motorcycles, rides, maintenance, reviews.. when I would like to know is, how do you get the wind noise out of your videos when riding a motorcycle. Like I said, the best place that I have found so far is actually with a windsock/foam rubber cover over the little microphones that I put inside my ear pockets of my full face helmet. two of my three motorcycles have taller windshields than my smaller Kawasaki Z 400 .. I think I’m going to buy the acacia brief 6+ and the external microphone that you were so impressed with.. is there an issue using different brands of SD cards? I’m using the SanDisk series 10 as recommended by my cameras, instruction booklets. do cameras that have stabilization deplete battery power quicker? Are they physically, spinning gyros, to stabilize the picture? I like how you get right into the subject without music or graphics or flash flash flash picture changes with your videos. That’s how I do my videos. I get right into it, no music ever, and I don’t even appear in my videos. Nobody wants to see me. Thank you for making the choosing of my next camera pretty easy
How do I get out of the “Timeout” screen? I tried 3x to connect to the WiFi on my phone and the camera was not connecting. After 3rd attempt it timed out and I cannot get passed it.
Do they still wire the camera in a way that can only work with their cheap mic ? I wanted ti change the mic with the expensive one commonly used for gopro and turned out I can’t cause the camera won’t work with anything else..🤷♂️🤦♂️
your amazon link to the Akaso Brave 8 leads to a Akaso Brave 7 camera ...not a Brave 8 ...is there a proper link to purchase the Akaso Brave 8 on Amazon.
Hi Gregg, any assistance on how to do a factory reset? I am stuck. I guess I tried 3 times to set up wifi and I am stuck where it says "No permission to skip" and although the app through my cell makes the attempt to connect, the camera is just stuck on that screen. any help would be appreciated. thanks
Can you set it to take lets say a pictures every 30 seconds and then turn those shots into a timelapse?? Im asking for doing 3D printer timelapse videos. I know the Go Pro can but so much more expensive. Thanks+
I have several older Akasos and so far really like my Akaso V50 Pro. But, want to move up. I MUST for me is having sounds that indicate when the camera turns on and when recording starts/stops. Since it sits on top of my helmet (horseback riding) I can't see if it's on/off recording etc, I have to hear the sound. On the V50, it chimes when turned on and beeps when recording starts and stops. What about the Akaso Brave 8? Does it have sounds to indicate these functions?
All I care would be video quality and stabilization: It needs to be capable of 4K60fps, good colour, contrast and balance and it needs to deliver a rock steady stabilization even on a shaking, vibrating motorized vehicle. Due to it's "cheap name" it basically needs to perform better than a gopro8 which is the same price these days. Does it do that?
I got the 7 and even with their external mic the audio is really poor, when motovlogging eveywhere above 30 km/ hr there’s so many distortions and it’s very hard to hear details like the sound of your moto ecc…i guess as soon as i can update i will use this one as a secondary camera
It amazes me that some overseas companies release products that are obviously not tested (like Brave 7 audio) ... what do they do... just build a unit.. fill it with components that on paper should work and rely on customers to test? I almost bought the 6, then the 7... glad I passed. I have the V50X which is ok for motorvlogging (ext mic).
Gopro does the same thing, their hero9 is a steaming pile of crap. Somehow all the UA-cam camera reviewers got good ones, or they were lying. Most people had app interface problems and notorious overhearing issues.
Well looks ok for the price, but if this cost 150-200 I think the old osmo action is a much better action camera. But nice to see some other take on dji and gopro. Would love to test it, im a runner so a low cost camera would be nice. I drop my camera often😁
What's the final word on needing the app? I would use mine on extended wilderness trips, charging with a solar charger, and my phone may not be charged up for days. I do need to be able to work this camera without a phone handy. Will that work?
Greg, just received this reply from Akaso: “Brave 8 is currently out of stock and will not be available for a short period of time, probably 3-5 months. ☹
Well this looks very prommising the internal mic is not bad at all, i would maybe give akaso a new chance in the future but i bought 2 Dragontoch Vista 5 which is not all that but had a non issue ext mics. I'm intrested for more info video

Looks?? (sounds, ) like they solved the audio. Very interested in how the ride goes. Was the case on in this video? If I remember correctly there was no sound at all with the 7 with the case.
Followed the link, couldn't find a price. If it's not too bad this could be my choice. (Though I am looking for a used Hero 8 at H....'s.)
yes it was with the case on. But more expensive then i think it should be. At the currentl price ($279US) there are a lot of options out there.
the audio is better on this Akaso than most other models.
Thanks for the video.
most welcome.
Looks like a big improvement indeed! What about the remote? Can you turn the camera on with it?Thanks!
Ill ad that to my list of questions.
So exactly what cable do you have to buy to charge the remote? USB micro 2.0? 3.0?
your amazon link to the Akaso Brave 8 leads to a Akaso Brave 7 camera ...not a Brave 8 ...is there a proper link to purchase the Akaso Brave 8 on Amazon.
The sound is so much better on this one but what is the noise you occasionally hear? Is it when you adjust it because I get that on the campark x30
The crackling sound is whenever im adjusting the camera or switching hands. The mics are just SO sensitive now.
@@gregtoope I think I'm right in saying I dont notice it as much when I use a gimble
Is version 8 already in sale?? Need one!!! Tks
Thanks+
Is it waterproof (resistant) without a scuba case?
I have several older Akasos and so far really like my Akaso V50 Pro. But, want to move up. I MUST for me is having sounds that indicate when the camera turns on and when recording starts/stops. Since it sits on top of my helmet (horseback riding) I can't see if it's on/off recording etc, I have to hear the sound. On the V50, it chimes when turned on and beeps when recording starts and stops. What about the Akaso Brave 8? Does it have sounds to indicate these functions?
How about the external mic?
will be tested in an upcoming video.
When can the public buy the 8?
All I care would be video quality and stabilization: It needs to be capable of 4K60fps, good colour, contrast and balance and it needs to deliver a rock steady stabilization even on a shaking, vibrating motorized vehicle. Due to it's "cheap name" it basically needs to perform better than a gopro8 which is the same price these days. Does it do that?
What's the latest model in late 2022?
I got the 7 and even with their external mic the audio is really poor, when motovlogging eveywhere above 30 km/ hr there’s so many distortions and it’s very hard to hear details like the sound of your moto ecc…i guess as soon as i can update i will use this one as a secondary camera
It amazes me that some overseas companies release products that are obviously not tested (like Brave 7 audio) ... what do they do... just build a unit.. fill it with components that on paper should work and rely on customers to test? I almost bought the 6, then the 7... glad I passed. I have the V50X which is ok for motorvlogging (ext mic).
well this one looks to be much better. Ill be taking it out on the motorcycle in the next day or 2.
Gopro does the same thing, their hero9 is a steaming pile of crap. Somehow all the UA-cam camera reviewers got good ones, or they were lying. Most people had app interface problems and notorious overhearing issues.
Does the external mic record in stereo for any of the Akaso cams? I’d really like 2 channels, I’d hate to have to go back to a GoPro.
We will be doing an audio test in the next few days.
Did it come with wrist remote control or is the AKASO Brave 4 Pro the only one that does?
Well looks ok for the price, but if this cost 150-200 I think the old osmo action is a much better action camera. But nice to see some other take on dji and gopro. Would love to test it, im a runner so a low cost camera would be nice. I drop my camera often😁
Fair enough! But i agree that for the same amount of money you can get an Osmo Action or even an older GoPro Hero 7. Those are really good cameras.
Can you use this as a webcam connected to your PC for live streaming?
What's the final word on needing the app? I would use mine on extended wilderness trips, charging with a solar charger, and my phone may not be charged up for days. I do need to be able to work this camera without a phone handy. Will that work?
The video quality is decent the audio is not bad at all but it is quite subdued you may need an external mic for it
hello i have same camera, do you know where can you buy remote. official store dont sell separete 😟. Remote for akaso brave7
Greg, just received this reply from Akaso: “Brave 8 is currently out of stock and will not be available for a short period of time, probably 3-5 months. ☹
It's now 2023 and I can't find the brave 8 anywhere!!😮😮😮 The 7 and 7le are super easy to find but no 8!!!
Can you record video while charging? Or, use a separate battery pack to lengthen the recording time?
Can you use any external mic or only the proprietary one works?
As far as i know you need to use the Akaso mic
External mic suport without a mod ?
Another comment, when do they plan to release this?
Well this looks very prommising the internal mic is not bad at all, i would maybe give akaso a new chance in the future but i bought 2 Dragontoch Vista 5 which is not all that but had a non issue ext mics. I'm intrested for more info video
yeah im not sure why so man companies have such issues with their external audio. Hopefully this one works better. We shall see.
Standard Question: Clean HDMI output?
Can we get a night shot please
Be nice if you can control it with the remote without even touching the camera as in picture / video / on /off.
What is the price Greg? A great little camera!
its not cheap. around the $280US mark.
So it looks like you cannot use the Ext mic with the mounting case on, because you cannot open the door right?
you just need to remove the door. Just like on the older GoPros
Idk, the hero8 which is cheaper has super video depth and great audio. Plus you don't need a phone app to update it.
does the brave 7 LE require an akaso mic?
7 LE does not support external mics
Hello can you compare the quality with brave 7?
I think brave 8 video quality kinda blurry 😬
I don't have a smart-phone to install Apps for the camera, do I really need a smart phone to use this camera and just use my PC laptop instead?
Was the audio done with the case on the camera?
Ok, it seems that I can upgrade from my Akaso 6 plus now. I was considering purchasing a Gopro, but this is cheaper and may suit my amateur needs.
