- NEW 2023 Satin Finish Martin Guitars with Tim Teel & Spoon Phillips - from the Martin Museum! 👀Our friend Tim Teel sat down with us and gave us the scoop on the wonderful new satin finish Martin Guitars in the standard series. Tim is the Director of Instrument Design at Martin Guitar, and he's really proud of these new satin offerings. NEW for 2023, Martin now makes the D-28 and D-18 in 6 exciting low-gloss versions. The D-28 Satin, D-28 Satin Amberburst & D-28 Street Legend, as well as the D-18 Satin, D-18 Satin Amberburst and D-18 StreetLegend.

I’m hoping for a OO or 0-18 in this line or in the 15 series Streetmaster. However, I’m of the generation that greatly appreciates that D-18 and even though I’m not typically a fan of Dreads for my own use, but this one could be the exception.

As I mentioned already elsewhere. Martins new management seems to be going down the route Gibson took recently. ‘Murphy’-style aged guitars, highly ornated signature models, satin finish and more. Here in Europe they cancelled also a lot of contracts with smaller dealers. So a Martin from your dealer in your neighborhood is history. Marketing took over and is selling now old wine in new bottles.
I was told about small dealers not being able to get Matin guitars anymore, quite recently in shops from my areas. And this precise design on that D-18 too, made me feel like saying 'its pure marketing'...I liked what you've been saying, and I agree with it to a certain extent...Guitar is a bit less expensive than a standard model though it seems (?)...
@@Jadar... It is cheaper because it based on a Satin finish, which is by far cheaper in production than the high gloss of the Standard models.
I one a satin D18 and it’s fantastic!! Look, feel and sound.
I’d really like to see a satin HD28.

D 28 amber burst I’d say. The StreetLegend is a great new addition too, of course there’s push back with a bunch of ‘purist’ but there’s plenty of others for them, ha.

Very cool!!! I used to not be a fan of satin and then i bought a satin LP and the sound was much more full and rang out really well. I was considering the 000 streetmaster but this street legend is very cool. I originally thought it was a hank williams copy but kurt cobain is very cool too. Some folks hate pre aged guitar look. I kinda like it. What they will look like after 30 years of hard playing is anyones guess but its a fairly priced way to get into a Martin D-18 or D-28 in my opinion. Rock on!!

Is the satin finish like the custom shop authentic d28s?
Not 100% but similar
It is kinda like the Gibson "faded" but I haven't seen either.
I have yet to see the Gibsons in person

I'm mot sure I like the direction. I believe the standard models should have a nitro high gloss finish.

I love these new satin guitars and I think they are gonna be really great sounding but I also think if it’s in the standard series line it has to be full gloss. That’s the standard in my mind. I have a satin DSS-17 and I think a lot of the reason it sounds so good is because of the light finish! It is a really fun, great sounding Hog!

Is the satin finish still nitro?
No it’s a catalyzed lacquer but not nitro.
I don't dislike the way it looks, I dislike the inauthentic direction this is heading. Why not call it a Kurt Cobain tribute model and get the rest of the specs closer to grandpa? Soon there will be a hundred painted on wear patterns to choose from. I hope this is a one-off and Martin returns to being an example or realness and we can all look back on this era with a chuckle and a little embarrassment and get back to reality.
