This man flexing on us hard lol.
Hard!!!!!!! What a prick! Lol 🇨🇦😋
Ya bro
"...and the number one reason not to buy a Martin D-18.. I already bought it"
1. You live in Hawaii
2. You appear to be retired
3. You have a ton of nice guitars
4. Well done sir!
He is as we say, "living the life"!
Just stay off the stone fish!!
How many guitars do you need? Answer: Just one more!
He's extremely good at singing Thai songs as well.. 🤔 an interesting man !
Seems to me he could be a teacher or something like that ...
Anyway I do enjoy his videos..

Bought a new D-18 for $325 in October 1969 the day I was discharged from military service. It aged like a Stradivarius. Plays and sounds better than many vintage 28s, 35s, and 45s I played in several different body styles. The tone is warm and the volume and bass response are very close to the D-28. Gave it to my son last year and got a 000-28, which is more suited to string bending for blues. There is no rational reason not to buy a D-18. I taught my grandson that you can never own too many guitars.
A big thumbs up. I would love to play your D-18. I'm sure it is great. Thanks for that reply.
DicksWorld, I'm sure you noticed the $325 price in 1969. A new D-18 today is around $2,400!!
I had an 1982 D28 which sounded great, but I played a 60s D18 once and OMG it had the woodiest tone! It was amazing.
@@alfredfarber3385 Inflation adjusted, the price really hasn't gone up all that much.
"you can never own too many guitars." that's a new one and I'll really keep that in mind.
Just buy a bigger condo. Problem solved. You welcome.
John Lynch Thanks John you spoke for all of us. It was good fun!
I stopped at D28 because my wife owns a Smith&Weston big 45. I bought it for her. D28 is all I ever want.
Never buy your wife a gun.
))))
I’ve never seen a guitar video that perfectly encapsulates what it’s like to be a guitarist before 😂
You could eliminate reason #5 by purchasing a larger home. With the larger home, you could have an entire floor devoted to your guitar collection.
😂🤣😂😁😂😂🤣🤣 I wonder how many people have a thumbs down and went to the video after reason #10? I loved this!! I have a bunch of nice guitars both acoustic and electric including a $7000 custom built McKnight acoustic and went to play a brand new 2018 D18e Retro and ummm yeah I got it. I was absolutely blown away. Thanks for the hilarious video
I couldn’t justify buying my D-28 a few years ago but did it anyway. It really made it a lot easier to pull the trigger on a D-18 a couple of weeks ago.
The guitar doesn’t make the player
Be thankful for being able to play
That’s the gift
I put Martin Guitars onto this video and they loved it. I don't need a reason "not to buy a D-18", I want one really badly just can't afford one.
Awesome video sir! Love the ending. I’ve done the “talking myself out of buying another guitar” too many times to remember. My wife did buy me a Martin 000 RS 1. It’s not up to your level but at least SHE bought it for me.
Well, I own an '89 Gibson J-200, which is great to back vocals. But those D-18's can be really sweet!
When it came to # 1, we're glad you saw it our way
Great post, just makes me smile. Nice to know we are all thinking the same! Look forward to episode two.
All fun and games untill he said he could've brought bitcoin
2 Years ago 😳
Lol. I was thinking the same thing. That one hurt.
I have laughed so hard. You speak to the truth. Thanks for explaining to my wife better than I could have!
1 reason to buy a Martin D-18: You don't already have a Martin D-18.
I can think of 2,799 reasons not to buy a D-18.
I hope when I die that my wife doesn't sell my guitars for what I told her I paid for them.
This cracked me up. I just went through the same thing when Gibson re-issued the 70's model J-50. Already have one so I put it off, put if off, put it off... now the limited edition is sold out and I'm kicking myself.
I recently got myself a real one from the early 1970s and it's an amazingly good guitar. There are some nice J-50s on Reverb.
The one with the black guard that shows the bracing through the top wood is just like mine. They're worth the €1500.- you pay for for them used.
Got one for my birthday today. Sounds and plays great
Hahaha, I didn't expect this kind of video when I clicked. Awesome man:)
😂😂. I was hoping he was going to talk me out of it. 😂
Hilarious! I have wanted a Marin all my life. I finally satisfied that want with the purchase of a beautiful Martin DRS1. I got her for $465 with free shipping. A 2013 model in excellent shape!
Dude, hilarious. Well done. Thanks for the laugh.
I agree. Well acted and produced. I’ve got the bug, too. Thanks!
How do you like the new D-28 reimagined?
Thank you for such a funny yet convincing remarks. I just bought a D-18 thanks to you!
Haha, I was gonna say, out of all those, I STILL prefer the D-18! I've been to the Martin Factory many times having the privilege of living in PA and out of all their models, expensive and cheap, my two absolute favorites are the D-18 and then the D-15M after that. So beautiful in their simplicity and so soulful in their tones. No need for the flashy looks, all tone!
Loved my d15 until my wife knocked it off a chair and it turned into kindling. Great guitar but super fragile
Bitcoin is why I can afford and want a D18, also I’m a retired doctor who has worked years helping others and want to have some fun.
I just bought a D18 two days ago and I see this video. I’m glad I watched till the end
wheres part 2 , i wanna see you unbox your new baby! Great video, i had a great time watching it.
I opted to get a D18GE instead of a HD28. The D18 is crisp, open, airy. Breathy. The low notes are like a bucketful of cool, clear water, from a very deep well.
Nothing like spruce and mahogany -- a dry, airy tone.
I have a sweet Hd-28V but I still needed a D-18. Just got one for Christmas.
Loved your video! Great job! My dad gave me his 1952 D-18... and what a great tone it has!! My most cherished gift ever!
I love this. I first saw the title and went "whaaaat", someone has come up with reasons not to buy a Martin, I have to watch this".... So funny. BTW I love your guitars.
2021
Excellent reasons
Get straight to the point.
Perfect.
GREAT COMMENTARY-I laughed heartily along with every honest viewer. But, I can't resist putting in real reason #1 for not buying the next guitar on my list...It is so painful to pick one and turn away from all the others on my list!
Sweet man, brilliant video. Actually I only have a 000-18 and was drawn to your video to find out why I should not buy the D18
Wonderful video. I agree with all ten reasons, own comparable guitars and just bought another Martin two days ago. Thanks for the advice!
Laughter abounding! Great job on that one ... And that Triple Ought and the NEW D-18 (Reason#0) will sound better than any of them after 25 or 30 years, as their brightness tones down to fat, full, thick, sweet honey ... Course, you might not have 25 or 30 years ... Make sure you know Jesus before you go to the store ...
Geez. I’m not worthy of your list, but I have a HD-35 and a 000-15M, but…….my first guitar I ever owned was given to me by my dad. He bought it brand new, recorded albums and travelled around the world with it.
A 1959 00-18G. Martin does not make it anymore.
It was stolen and my heart went with it. The HD-35 was to fill the emptiness my home felt without a Martin in it.
I’m on the fence now for a 000-18. I don’t need another dreadnaught. I beyond love the 000-15M, but I want to see and hear that beautiful mahogany and spruce combo again.
Reason number 1 _you don't play the guitar - 2-you can't afford it 3-you prefer another brand 4-you are in jail 5-you don't like dreadnoughts 6 you can afford a better one 7 you don't want anyone to know you got rich 8 you prefer to buy it when you are a better guitar player 9 you don't want your young children to touchit 10 you already own one ....these are real reasons
Honestly, my reason is that I already owned a Martin D-18 in the 1970's. I didn't like it and so I sold it. Decades later I decided I would never buy another Martin. Since realized it is just dreads that I disdain. So I have an Martin OM and a Martin 000 12-fret now and really do like them quite a lot.
In the past I went through four dreadnoughts, including a Gibson, that soured me on the type. But I sat down at the local shop and played a D-18 and a Collings D-1 (pretty much the same guitar, but nearly twice the cost). The D-18 sustained longer and had less of that dreadnought muddle in the overtones. Now there is a new D-18 on the rack next to the OM and OO Martins I liked from the start. I just hope I live long enough and retain my hearing long enough to "play in" the D-18.
Those are all good reasons 😆. I tell myself (and my wife tells me) the 28 is all I need too. But then there’s the matter of the Duesenberg Alamo lap steep with hand benders, a telecaster with sweet pedals, a couple amps, the upright bass and a new Collings mandolin. Plus European mics and necessary components on the signal chain.
Stringed obsessions are no laughing matter. Good luck to you sir, and I appreciate the love for Garcia
Great video. I currently have 7 Martins - but alas not a D18. May have to go to the shop tomorrow.
Been at this for 57 years and one of the best sounding guitars I have ever heard, was a really old Martin D-18 ... they have the ability to get thick-sounding, while retaining their highs, which maple and rosewood will not always do.
My favourite video. I keep coming back to watch it. Yeah I bought a D18.
Customer: How many Guitars do I need ?
Guitar Seller: ONE MORE !!!
Thk you bud.You gave me the perfect reason to buy a D28👍👍👍👍
Just bought my first Martin in April 2023; a D-X2E. Really enjoying it both acoustically and with my amp. 🎸
If it's good enough for Gordon Lightfoot, it's good enough for me!
Richard Mundane amen
Many prize pre-war Martin dreads for good reason. The benchmark for me is the 1st CSN album. Stills is holding one on the cover. The LP was released in 69. Martin sales went through the roof. In order to keep the lifetime warranty they had to thicken the bracing. The pre-CSN Martins sound much better. For about 10 years the quality just wasn't there.
I have heard that 1970s Martins are to be avoided. There was a rumor that they had suffered a fire in their wood warehouse. I have always heard that story about the warranty relative to Gibson guitars, and I had a 1971 J-50 that proved it true. What an overweight, over-everything that old clunker was!
I HAD to watch this since I couldn't think of any reasons and wondered what they could be 8-)
This made me laugh out loud. I eventually guessed the punchline but it was so well done, it still cracked me up.
You definitely have the best Martin guitars a man could owned, but without the D18’s you’re missing the holy grail on your guitar collection. If i have the money to spend all i could ever need is the Martin D18.
He convinced me!👊I need one badly ! thx for the post !
This was hillarious! I loved it!
As for the wife, I think you could easily sneak in as many guitars as you would want. You're at a point where I don't even think YOU can keep up with them all. LOL But beware! She might be sneaking some of them out.
That D18 REALLY sounded good in the music store so.......I have 6 Taylors, 2 Martins and a couple others. Never enough.
You dont know this, but back when i first started playing guitar back in 2014 on my "stagg" guitar looking object, i used to watch your videos all the time to learn, especially strumming. Im now a lot further along, so thanks George :)
You are so welcome and what a kindness you have bestowed on me. Thank you so much! When I started playing in the late 60's, you had to buy a book with chords and lyrics in it and it would be full of songs that I still can't play. UA-cam is such a blessing for musicians young and old. Many of the songs I cover now I learn by watching the video a few times before I crank it out and upload. Again, my sincere thanks!
Life’s too short to stop getting new guitars!
I'm so jealous!
@@philipstafford4540 Life's too short to waste chasing after new guitars....it's like finding a good woman (or man if you're a woman).
One is all you need..!!
Love the pic of Jerry in the background. And, as a true friend let me be the voice of reason… ‘go on, get it. You deserve it! It’s a whole other pallet of colors, it could be ‘The One’! You can never have too many guitars. There is no such thing, plus, everyone knows the optimal number of Martins to own is : Optimus primus guittarus = n(martins currently owned) + 1
Hmmm... Mark Knopfler writes almost all his songs on a D18. And he happen to have a D28 also. Anyway, I received my D18 today. :-)
Cool. How did you know Mark Knopfler writes all his songs on a D18? I’ve seen a D18 I really like, and I have a D28. Wondering if I should bust my savings and buy it
@@firdausHITMAN there is a documentary in which he says it. I'm not sure in which one, cause I am a huge Knopfler fan and I have seen so many, but I think he said it in this one: ua-cam.com/video/gpNV5ECePg8/v-deo.html
@@firdausHITMAN If you have a D28 I don't think you'll need a D-18 also. The D28 is also a high-end guitar. Anyway, Knopfler made some comments on it in interviews too. Like this one "The guitar I’ve been playing more than any other over the past few years is a D-18 Martin from 1935." - Mark Knopfler: www.vintageguitar.com/18181/mark-knopfler-3/
@@Michiel1972 Thanks a lot buddy. Appreciate it.
@@Michiel1972 Really enjoyed reading the article. Any more info always welcomed. many thanks
I was typing "are you single"? And up came your wife... But not before I cracked 5 ribs laughing, fell off the bed, broke my jaw and squashed my cat!!!! When you mentioned a Taylor, they called an ambulance for me... And now I'm still laughing, I love you and I'm about to buy a D-18 online from the operating table!!! 😂🤣👀😂🤣 PS - put a warning on your posts -Could be detrimental to your health!"
I have a small music room.
Cases piled 4ft deep in 2 corners with love seat between the piles.
18 wall hangers, usually all occupied.
Amps, mic stand, vocal monitor, small board.
The key: I re-arrange them frequently on the wall.
At 3 Martins and holding: D35, D12-28 and OMC16e.
But then the J50, the Fat Lady II 12 string, the '63 Epiphone Caballero, the Takamine F400 12, the Vantage 12, the Framus Texan 12...........
Oh and some electrics.....
Oh yea, 2 keyboards....
Oh yea, a computer workstation....
There is no room for wife to enter and even count them.
Next time your wife says you have enough guitars, tell her that she has enough shoes! The same thing! lol
"I own a small condo" …and _at least_ $25K worth the guitars.
Excellent example of a man who's got his priorities straight!
🤣hilarious video👍
I came here thinking you could stop me from making a reckless purchase, but now I'm going to buy a d18. 😅
man...you need to have a garage sale and get rid of some of those...I'll be there!
Good stuff. I’ve owned my D-18 for over 30 years.
Ok really well done, I subscribed to your channel. At The Podium we never called her your wife, she's the Finance Committee.
Well, Elvis recorded “That’s Alright Mama” in July 1954, along with a B-Side on his single “Blue Moon Of Kentucky”. What guitar was he bashing on? Martin D18 of course……
I don't even play the guitar (or any other musical instrument), but I know enough musicians to laugh myself silly while watching this video. And the man knows his way around the fretboard--plays some wicked blues licks to spice up the list of 10. But I've found that some musicians should have a needlepoint wall decoration that reads, "You can never have too many axes."
This guy is so funny! I always come back to this video for the laughs
My Father passed on and gave me his Martin acoustic guitar I'm not a fan of acoustic and would like to purchase an electric guitar with the money I get from the acoustic is that logical / prudent
This piece caught my eye because I just traded a carload of less-played guitars, basses & other stuff for a brand new D-18. My only regret is that I didn't do it 50 years ago.
OK, that's too funny. I own a 1972 000-18, 1972 D35, and a 1987 Taylor 555 Jumbo 12-string. The best material investments ever and the prettiest sounds!
Initially was offended by the title, thought "who could ever... must be a die hard Taylor fan"
Finding myself coming back to laugh, absolutely hilarious. 👌grade A dad comedy
His number one reason TO buy one should be the photo on the counter behind him. Jerry loved the D-18.
Based on your playing I could heard some Garica infulence and I wasnt wrong, Jerry's photo in the back.
Man oh man what I would give to be able to have any single one of your guitars. Just an intermediate "beginner " but how sweet it would be to hear myself strike a chord on something besides a cheap Epiphone and a crappy Takamine. It would be very motivational to say the least.
Love the pic of Jerry in the background. And, as a true friend let me be the voice of reason… ‘go on, get it. You deserve it! It’s a whole other pallet of colors, it could be ‘The One’! You can never have too many guitars. She’ll never know. Tell her it’s mine and I’m hiding it from the IRS. You can say it’s actually a cheap Chinese knock-off , but a really good one.. it was a steal….plus, everyone knows the optimal number of Martins to own is : Optimus primus guittarus = n(martins currently owned) + 1
Have had a love/hate relationship with Martin. Owned an HJ-28 that sounded like a wet cardboard box and a 000-16C bought "new" from Mandolin Bros. that required more warranty work than most Martin repair shops were willing to do. But I did have a nice 70 D-28 and an 82 OM-28. Became a Collings fan for a long while until Bill passed away. Now fixated on Bourgeois.
One reasons not watch this video
I had one of them D-18s, hated it, the belly swelled so much that the truss rod couldn't deal with it so I traded it in for a Harmony Sovereign (this was in the seventies) which I didn't like so I traded that in for a hand-built Yamaha, which I still have, over forty years later, it plays beautifully, sounds great and I have never played a Martin that I thought was better.
I own a Yamaha rosewood dreadnaught to replace a D35 that got stolen, and it’s perfectly satisfactory. Yamahas were good enough for Bert Jansch, so,they’re good enough for me.
Oh my! Made my morning to watch this. There is so much serious debate (even in the comments) about which guitar blah blah blah. Thanks for the comic relief to the beginning of my long work day! And your guitars are beautiful... look forward to seeing your D-18! Have a great day.
I enjoyed this so much.
Admit it, you made this to flex on us didn’t you?
This was great, I don’t own a Martin ...yet , but I have 10 brothers and sisters waiting at home .
I HAVE A MARTIN HD28 VS 12 FRET FROM 1993 AND D35 REIMAGINED SUNBURST 2019……BOTH ARE AMAZING….IM SO LUCKY WITH MY CHOICES;
Hell yeah !!!! lol, I just started playing 6 months ago, bought 2000 Martin DM 4 months ago, the cravings grew and grew. And my appetite for more martins, taylors Gibsons, fender, etc., keeps me drooling over very nice guitar I see, maybe it's just a noob phase, but it sure feels like commitment to me
Well played good Sir. well played!!!
Absolutely hilarious !!! HOW COULD I LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA, PA AND NOT BUY A D-18 ??? I have a 2018 Martin D-18 And out of the 8 Guitars I own it is my #1 guitar !!! Great Video !!! ESPECIALLY LOVE THE JERRY GARCIA PIC. IN THE BACK !!! STILL LAUGHING !! LOL THANKS FOR THE LAUGHS
? How's it sound? :o) Let's see it!
Love this guy
Haha i enjoyed this. The struggles of guitar ownership, the justification when buying a new one etc
I have been avoiding this video because I had just purchased a D18 and didn’t want to hear anything bad about it... glad I watched 😂
Lemme see, got a used D-18 in 69, lost in fire; 1929 0-28 in 78; Lo Prinzi (like D-41 w/abalone) in 78; new D-45 in 89; 1952 00-18- rough condition, repaired by John Zeidler before his passing; mint 000-28 in 88; 1969 D-28S Brazilian rosewood; 1995 D-15S (much nicer playing then D-28S); 2007 HD-28, vast improvement; and finally, had to try one, a Blueridge BR-5060 John Jorgeson Signature Dreadnought. Need to look it up!!!
I sold off four of the Martins 2 years ago.
At 73 I’ve given up thinking I’ll ever be a great guitarist but I’m happy to see Martin making guitars better then ever and are better investments then the stock market. The 1929 0-28 sold for $10,000!
Question: What's my favorite guitar? Easy answer: The one I've decided to buy!
Thumbs up for creativity and execution ☺☺
Haha thanks for the laugh! A D-18 is my dream guitar!
Azariah Huskey If you haven’t bought you dream guitar give a Taylor 522 a go, best decision I made.
Only reason I ever found was because a Gibson Advanced Jumbo was for sale next to it lol. I generally don't care for Gibson's but the AJ is a totally different animal
