I was at the Martin factory last summer and played this. I couldn't wrap my head around the "fakeness" of the aging look, but it played like an absolute beast!
Imagine what the worker feels damaging a pristine surface. It must be horrible. Making something inauthentic out of something authentic.
@@stephensmith799it’s just a picture overlay. No true aging.
@@AmpliFIRE Ah ha!

Did you not watch the video, because that’s not what is done.
@@powbobsThanks for your post. I couldn’t watch to the end, but a printed film is pretty hard to accept too 😏
As stated in the video; the bright side of it, you don’t have to worry about scratching your guitar. That’s always the worst part of owning a guitar is that first scratch or ding.
Cool guitar in my opinion! ❤
For the price point of this model it's an absolute winner. "Fake" top or no fake top.
For the price point? For the price point you can buy an Eastman E10D-TC for less and get almost if not exactly the same tone and quality for a lot less. Plus you do not have to put up with a fake top and get to age it yourself over time LOL
Great D-18 sound! I don’t remember his guitar being that orange, but it may be the difference in lighting compared to Martin’s museum. I have found that I now prefer the starburst followed by a nice honey aged top.
Quinton must play in a band…he knows how to cut through the mix I can tell.
If you like it and can afford it then buy it. Who cares what a bunch of internet gatekeepers say? Do you.
I love it.
I think it’s interesting to note that unlike other relic’d guitars, this only appears reclic’d. If you were to pick it up blindfolded you would feel a perfectly smooth guitar, not one full of scrapes and gouges. Everyone else relics their guitars by beating the crap out of them but Martin found a different path. That might not change the appeal of this particular guitar for you but it does demonstrate a new way of thinking that may well be a game changer in a future of limited resources. Not my first choice of instruments but I can give credit where credit is due. Let’s see what the future brings.
So the fake relic is fake. How low can they go?

This guitar is really more like an “art” guitar than it is an aged guitar like many companies (including Martin) make.
It is inline with all the Martin guitars that have art work either physically painted on them or printed on them. The other thing about this guitar in particular (and the D-28 version as well) is that “wear pattern” is copied from a specific guitar in the Martin Museum. The specific D-18 that this guitar replicates is a famous guitar that was used by two significant artists both of whom were influential to the demographic that Martin is trying to reach with this guitar.
I have loved “artificially aged” guitars since the first Relics out of the Fender Custom Shop. If I were looking at this guitar as an “aged” guitar I wouldn’t like it. However, viewing it as just another one of Martin’s “Art” guitars changes my opinion of it. I still haven’t seen one in person yet so I can’t say if I would actually buy it or not, but I do understand what Martin is trying to with this model. The D-28 Street Legend is completely lost me, but I don’t like D-28s in general and I don’t know anything about the actual guitar that the “wear pattern” is copying.
@@charlesbolton8471 not art, trash. Stick your love for trash in your verbose ear.
He actually said there isn't finish on those areas in a round about way in the video.

I got to play one yesterday. I like it better than the regular D-18. It has a regular satin finish. The whole top feels exactly the same.
I love it! It is a regular d18 with a picture on top of it that gives it a worn look. I have a fantastic hd28 but I have a d18 in my future. I wouldn't rule this guitar out. I may end up with one. To each their own.
I like the way D-18’s play and sound. I would never buy a guitar with fake wear! When you buy a vintage guitar with wear, there’s a history behind that wear of all the players and listeners who enjoyed that guitar and that’s really cool! I’m sorry but this is just fake.
Some guitars look better worn, Fender electrics for instance. If you’re 20 and can’t afford a vintage axe, and want something not structurally problematic, this is it.
Clarification… it is a real guitar, with fake aesthetics… same as finishing it in black, or a dark burst. That being said, I agree that we should do our own “relicing”… in 2022, I bought a new RainSong from Paul, and at the first few gigs, I was a bit embarrassed to be playing an extremely shiny, brand new looking guitar. After almost 2 years, the finish is scratched enough, and dull enough in all the right places, to look like a gigging guitar…. Yay!
Your loss.
Man those things are really cool, and they almost have a little more vintage sound I think, because of the satin finish.
Lovely tone.
Nice intro tune.
Earn it! I do not like falsely aged guitars! Thats just me. To each their own.
Not a fan of the faux wear look, but it sounds great!
What was the first piece of music that Quinton played?
its called relic bay relic!
@@soofitnsexythanks
hi from nyc! im here for u!@@dieutubedie
rather wear mine ìn the old fashioned way
Then don’t buy one.
I am a D18 fan. I am not a fan of fake wear and tear. But it sounds great.
To each their own.
Relic guitars are extremely popular.
I love them because I’m not afraid of the inevitable ding or scratch from actually taking it out and playing it.
My relic guitars get played more.
it sounds great
the finish reminds me of the old Fender foto-flame
i wonder how it holds up
Which did you like better - Grandpa or the 00016 Streetmaster?
I think a new Martin with the already aged darker color of aged toner would be good for sales. At normal prices not the signiture or special edition prices.
I bought a 1973 D-18 for $325. It plays and sounds great. How did I get it so cheap? I bought it 51 years ago.
Instead of the name D-18 Street Legend, it should be called the D-18 Street Gimmick. Not for me, but I appreciate the thought of informing us.
I think it’s beautiful.
You guys sure it's not the "Dragged down the street legend?"
Apparently you’re not aware of what dragging something down the street would do; weird.
All you need is some store bought ripped jeans and you're good to go.
But why!?
Because it’s beautiful.

Absolutely ridiculous concept! Sounds good though.

Uhhh Martin spec?
just recently played this guitar...hate the looks but actually really sounded good...very open raw....unrefined!! just couldnt buy it due to the shitttyyyyy top! that everyone else will get if they buy this model! too bad
It’s beautiful.
Models? It's a particular model.
D18s. Wonderful guitars, much copied.
I was wondering why you left the tuner on during the demo, I was going to suggest you take it off and then near the end you took it off. The guitar started singing. A tuner on the headstock chokes the guitar. Thank you for taking it OFF!
Do the guitar manufacturers make dealers stock every stupid idea they make?

Go eat some more crayons.
Not a huge fan of the relic unless it truly a game played guitar
Horrendous.... why would you fake up a totally beautiful guitar. Surely this just lowers the value and credentials of the instrument.
It's such an absurd concept that should have died at the idea stage. Just awful in every way imaginable.
It’s embarrassing, but Americans will buy anything. The more fake the better. Glad to be old.

Someone had to do it. Kudos to Martin for making an instrument look awesome and beat up like this. So much better than their modern design ideas.
Gatekeeping is ugly.
I have nothing against relic'd guitars, it's just fake relicing like the Streetmaster and this that I think is just dumb.
I like how you contradicted yourself immediately but posted the comment anyway without realizing it.
Quentin looks silly holding a gadget Martin.
No
Is this the worst idea in guitar design since Gibson's robot tuners?
Yes, by a thousand miles... Simply awful.
Must be the thing now. I see many ads pop on to my Facebook page for aged electrics from Fender.
They can’t keep these things in stock.
They sell immediately.

Yup, it’s really nice and I like the look.
Totally horrible idea. No way I'd buy something that looks like that. Same for the relicing on Fenders. It such a phony image. I'm perfectly capable of damaging and wearing stuff out myself thank you.
How narrow minded if you.
Only you and some other curmudgeons value your opinion.
The relic’d look holds no appeal for me, what a waste of time and money.
That’s just your opinion.
No thanks. Love the sound...but not the look. Out.
Nobody is forcing you to buy one.
More fir the rest of us.
They make a non distressed looking one too. And a sunburst. So.... Yeah
Curt cobain ruined it for me.
