The piece looks fantastic, the resin is stunning as is the burl. Just another fine work of art by "Sprague Woodturning". Just outstanding sir, outstanding indeed. Thanks for the post and your channel, one of the best on UA-cam.🌿 ✨✨✨✨✨
All three of these players are absolutely awesome and beautiful. I like this one a lot but the blue one would be my favorite because I am partial to blue. Love them 💕
Thanks for the platter comparison pictures. I thought the stabilizing would give truer colour to the burl, but with the comparison, I now think the blue platter without stabilizer is a more interesting and striking piece. Thanks for sharing and for the detail of your videos.
This gorgeous platter would make an awesome lazy Susan for the middle of a table. Consider turning a small stand for it or a future platter with the lazy Susan mechanism in embedded
I was also thinking it’s to late for this piece; but a gorgeous piece of art twirling in the middle of a table would really sell. Especially as gorgeous as these box elder burl type platters.
Once again you are amazing. I have seen a few other woodturner and I can truthfully say that I love your work more then any others I have seen so far. If I had a dream it would be to spend a week with you in your work shop making awesome things. Not to keep for myself but to just experience the joy of seeing something unique happen. As I approach my 70th year and failing health I could never get to visit you so I am restricted to watching your videos. For this I am so thankful to have come across you on you tube. May you be abundantly blessed in your creative world as well as your health and your family life. You are one awesome man.
Many decades ago my tutor told me that, in order to be a good teacher, you need a thorough knowledge of the subject and the ability to impart that knowledge. I added the willingness to impart that knowledge. It’s so good of you to take the time to share your expertise 🌞
@@SpragueWoodturningI watch as my social life,my fun time.I am 71 and disabled, limited of outside activities I really enjoy what you do.I love the beautiful work you do.You make my every day better and brighter. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.Do you ever sell small works that seniors can afford ?even very imperfect work.I would love to have anything you make. How would one contact you?
From rotten pieces of wood to a thing of beauty. I love your work and as I am a person with no woodworking or epoxy knowledge, I thank you for an editorial that I can understand the process of how you created these beautiful results. 😌😂
I have 1 suggestion you can try if you like. While drying your wood in the toaster oven, when it begins to smoke and creates moisture, you can prop the toaster door open about 1/16 to 1/4 inch to allow moisture to escape which stops the moisture from sitting in and building up inside the over! I’ve done this and it dries a lot faster. Just a suggestion anyhow! I absolutely love the “blue resin” I never get tired of seeing you use it! I absolutely love your work and channel 👏👏👏👏👏
Nice video, I enjoyed that you show how to fix the little imperfections and the true nature of woodworking, its all about overcoming the obstacles to end up with a unique and beautiful product. I've learnt a lot from your videos, thank you.
That magenta piece was just CRAZY BEAUTIFUL 👌 🌷. I'd love to see magenta used alongside a really hot blue.💗💙 But keeping the swirling going. 👍 AMAZING!!!!!!!
A note to address your epoxy voids. As a retired iron worker. Welders often use a tool called. A needle gun. Remove the top to reveal the plunger. Great vibrator to use under your table. Note 2. Make sure the pieces are well secured and ready to rock & roll. This tool is a serious vibrator.
Love you’re honest about the issues and hold your quality of work too high standards. Can’t wait to see it when you solve the finish problems. Beautiful craftsmanship as always.
Jim with those flaws in the finish I think you should send it to me for disposal. It's a beautiful piece and that colour goes great with the box elder. Hope you get the issues sorted out.
I do have a fireplace in the house but I'v heard the resin gives off toxic fumes when burned so that wouldn't be an option. Maybe just keep it in the shop as an example to aspire to do someday.
Hé Jim, this peace looks on the television of a 3D print. Another stunning peace and i will look today to your other peace, who was not finished yet. I prusume that you make chapter 2 next week. Today it is Friday the 20th of september 2024. Time here: 19.48 hours Greetings from Gert from the Netherlands.
Jim what can I say you have such an ability to produce superb quality of workmanship it’s a pleasure to watch you create works of art all though I am a novice you inspire me to have a go thankyou
Him Jim.. thanks for taking us on your journey of discovery with these burl and resin creations.. I agree with you that this latest is probably the best of the three, but it’s a close call; it is most definitely a really beautiful piece of art.. by the way, don’t you go listening to all those complainers; BLUE resin is the best, haa haa 😁
I enjoy watching you create your magic. They are beautiful. I have watched others working with resin and they sand 4 or 5 times and go up to (I think it was) 1200 grade sandpaper. Nick Zamitti is another great artist with wood and resin. You keep up the good work. Be blessed.
I like the blue, ghost and magenta, in that order. I like the different shades in the wood. I’d like to see a resin and burl project where the colour isn’t quite as opaque. Not wishy washy... but where more of the peaks and valleys in the wood are visible. As usual beautiful job! Stay safe.
What a beautiful platter! I love the burl! It reminds me of coral. The magenta is perfect. I, too, love blue, but am glad you made this choice for a change. Love it! Thanks, Jim!
Thank you, Jim, for the great pieces you have made but even more for the information shared regarding the steps taken. The pieces are very eye-popping. Excellent!
Even with whatever finish issues you were having with this platter, it is beautiful. Always love watching your work and listening to you explain your process! Thank you. You really help a rookie turner such as myself.
Hi Jim, not the most beautiful piece I have seen you turn, the burl looks stunning. Thank you so much for explaining the process of stabilising the wood, very interesting. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I enjoyed watching your process. Thanks for sharing
Wow! That’s an amazing piece 😍. I just really appreciate the way you go through the steps, issues an all, and guide us through your process. You’re one hell of a craftsman Jim and I learn something with every single one of your videos. 🙏
I can't wait until you use some of those Hunter tools in place of the easy wood tools rolled to the side. I think we're in for a treat. I'd also like to see you finish turn a bowl in real time, even if it's a two-part video. Keep up the good work, Jim. This is arguably my favorite woodturning channel. Also, Boxelder burl is #elite. 💪😎🤘🏼
The natural, uniform color of the stabilized burl is beautiful, the previous resin up to the spalt line was super cool, and the ghost resin wild. Can't pick a favorite 🤩 Thanks so much for experimenting, fun and fascinating questions.
These platters have been fun to watch. I'm not sure which I like best...probably the ghost. This magenta is really gorgeous, as well, and it was interesting to see some issues come up and learn how to handle them. It will be interesting to see how that one last "finish gremlin" works out. As always, thanks for the lesson!
I live the combination of that magenta with the burls. The contrasts are stunning ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
Nice to see someone using the tools for more than their official use.
Thanks 🙏

Thank you very much!
You have a wealth of knowledge on your craft and you must have invested heavily on your equipment. Thanks so much.
Yes I have! Probably 25k to make things related to the lathe. Thanks 😊
It’s been two months since your posting and according to my screen you have surpassed 26k subscribers. Congratulations 🎉🍾🎈
Thanks, been doing uploads every week, thanks for watching!
Beautiful color, beautiful burel, beautiful plater. Thank you for not using blue.
Lol, your the blue hater, haha. Thanks!
Oh my… that is beautiful! This magenta is very pretty with the Mother of Pearl
Thanks for watching!
I love your explanations of how to use your various products. Thanks.
Thanks Vernon!
All three of these players are absolutely awesome and beautiful. I like this one a lot but the blue one would be my favorite because I am partial to blue. Love them 💕
I’m a blue lover to, lol. Thanks
The finish brings out the pearl very good. Very pretty 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Thank you very much
I stabilized a lot of burls but I learned a lot from this video. Lot's of tips to make my projects better.
Awesome! Thanks so much!
I love the blue with the mother of pearl, but I must say the magenta and mother of pearl is my absolute favorite! Great work Jim!! ❤
Agreed, need to do another one with the Magenta, thanks
Please do, that with the mother of pearl is gorgeous. Maybe with some blue with the same?
Thanks for the platter comparison pictures. I thought the stabilizing would give truer colour to the burl, but with the comparison, I now think the blue platter without stabilizer is a more interesting and striking piece. Thanks for sharing and for the detail of your videos.
No problem, thanks for watching!
This gorgeous platter would make an awesome lazy Susan for the middle of a table. Consider turning a small stand for it or a future platter with the lazy Susan mechanism in embedded
A lazy susan project is a good idea, can’t do it to this platter tho, lol.
I was also thinking it’s to late for this piece; but a gorgeous piece of art twirling in the middle of a table would really sell. Especially as gorgeous as these box elder burl type platters.
The magenta is indeed beautiful. With the yellow wood I think dark green would look good too.
Gramma Kat
Totally! Thanks 😊
this plate could be anything so awesome.
Thank you very much!
Nice to meet another left handed wood turner.
We’re in short supply, lol. Thanks 🙏
You are far more patient than I am. Nice job. I prefer the blue platter.
Trust me it was frustrating, lol. Thanks
I like it and appreciate all the work you did to make it right! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Chrystal Purple Pursuasion, my favorite ❤
Thank you so much!
Love this platter...the color is spot on. Would make a great center piece on my table
Yes! Thank you!

Magical Magenta. Looks like a river that can only be seen from above.
Lots of map comments, thanks

Thanks for watching!
I would love to see a cherry bowl with a burnt edge and a very light magenta epoxy! BAM! did I just blow your mind🤯
Good combo. Thanks
The magenta pigment was the right choice! Awesome figure in the burl! Looks great Jim!!
Thanks Brad!
Jim, Jim, Jim,,,,,,, you have created how I envision the parting of the Red Sea.
Great piece!!
It’s a pretty cool piece, thanks 🙏

So far it is beautiful. You keep topping yourself. Every piece is more spectacular than the previous one.
Thank you very much!

Love the magenta!
Me too! Thanks 🙏
Your not the only UA-camr that has compatibility issues with stabilizing resin...
Good, I hate being alone, haha. Thanks
nice blend of form and color very nice piece !
Thanks!
That magenta piece was just CRAZY BEAUTIFUL 👌 🌷. I'd love to see magenta used alongside a really hot blue.💗💙 But keeping the swirling going. 👍 AMAZING!!!!!!!
Thank you! 😊
(Designer Epoxy)the colour looks wonderful. nightmare or not.. you did it :-)
Thank you!
I would love to see a cherry bowl with a burnt edge and a magenta epoxy that is just barely see-through. BAM! did I just blow your mind🤯
Good combo again. Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning sorry, didn’t mean to send it twice.🥴 I would say I was losing my marbles, but the truth is, I lost them a long time ago.
Your perfectionism is commendable!
Thanks 🙏
Jim another beauty......I like the magenta color. Thanks again for sharing.
It seems to be popular, thanks!
Your artistic side is awesome. Really injoy watching what you do!

Someone else suggested this too, thanks 🙏🏻
Love you’re honest about the issues and hold your quality of work too high standards. Can’t wait to see it when you solve the finish problems. Beautiful craftsmanship as always.
Thanks, still working on it, lol.
Jim with those flaws in the finish I think you should send it to me for disposal. It's a beautiful piece and that colour goes great with the box elder. Hope you get the issues sorted out.
Do you plan on using it for firewood? I’m told resin burns well, 😜😜
I do have a fireplace in the house but I'v heard the resin gives off toxic fumes when burned so that wouldn't be an option. Maybe just keep it in the shop as an example to aspire to do someday.
You said it, Jim. That is awesome. It is so hard to believe that the burl comes from a tree and not the ocean. Well done. 👍👍
It’s pretty awesome! Thanks
One thing's for certain, wood crafting of any type is a never ending learning process. Very nice piece Jim.
It sure is, thanks 🙏
Thank you for always explaining everything so well.
Your welcome, thanks 🙏
It was interesting the process and struggles you had. In the end the platter bowl was still a successful project.
It’s still a really nice piece, thanks

Another nice piece Jim. The swirls look fantastic. I like how the grain comes out when you put the finish on. Stay safe and keep swatting the bugs.
Thanks 🙏, if we get some frost tonight, that might do a good job on them! Back to swatting!
You’re a perfectionist, Jim! Thanks for taking us on your learning process journey. Swirly, and pearly… full of peaks and valleys. Fascinating.
Thanks 🙏🏻
I like the blue one best. Vivid rich colour.
