Was able to fix this P0871 in my drive way with handtools and no jack needed. Only took 3hrs with recording. Now that is something that was well worth it.

Great video! Explain everything clearly! Thank you
Thanks. Hope it helped
This is the best video out there good job 2017 and all that it work fine
Thank you. I'm glad it worked out for you. I know how difficult the issue is. Thanks for watching.
Ooooo snap dope instructions family especially with the alpha obd
Thanks fam. Appreciate the support.
6Truck i bought 8 months ago popped that code... Just serviced it and its been good since. Valve body is on the list.. but i have couple big ticket items for my business im buying this year so the damn transmission needs to wait its turn lol.
The module usually does the trick. I just did the vb to help keep it strong. One day will do the torque converter and then back to the engine with a new turbo set up. All in time
Thx for the video
You bet. thanks for watching.
I thought the point of replacing the plastic adapter on the spin on filter with a metal one was so that you could make it "gorilla tight"? I read that some folks had those back out due to vibration and fell into the pan causing transmission failure. Either way, I did mine pretty darn tight with a filter wrench.
You may be right but I've never had an issue with a filter backing out with being hand gorilla tight vs using a filter wrench. I do want to purchase a cup style wrench set so maybe in the future I will use those instead. I'll tell you what, those plastic threads were in there tight.
No the plastic one will brake over time
Thanks for this video. My 2018 2500 threw the code wiith the same symptoms. How has the Revmax Valve Body and Solenoid held up? Have you had any other transmission issues?
I am happy to say that since that day everything has been great. Doing this and the gear changes on the axles have been some of the best upgrades for sure.
Did you bumped up the oil pressure that valve body supposed to be happy at 200+ psi…..Also never heard about that Alfaobd tool, now curious about all the changes that tool can do to a ram truck (can you program diferent oil pressure to the valve body?)
Right now it is all stock. I know the VB can handle the additional pressure and to be honest I have not looked for that function in the software. I did notice that when I get on it, it shift really well.
Yo Since its been a year and a half now!
Did it stuck again ? The 4th gear i mean cause my truck is doing the same now.
Btw Love your vids man keep up the good work !
Mine has been flawless since. I am very happy with the upgrade and glad I did it early before I ran into more issues.
I haven't watched the video yet. Read the comments and mine is basically in the same boat. I would greatly appreciate any help as mu truck is a huge part of my livelihood and been down for 4 months now. How did you determine what part(s) failed?
2018 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins 4WD 68RFE Automatic Transmission-Won't move either direction
Codes P0871, P281F, and P2706
The 0871 is consistent and it started last year after I way overfilled the trans when I changed the fluid and filters. 281f and 2706 have set randomly maybe 2 or 3 times.
Before this situation of no movement, if I don't BARELY ease down onto throttle it will slam into I think 3rd gear and won't go any higher until I turn truck off and it immediately resets. It does it the most when pulling something. It will downshift when I stop at a light or something. Then when I start moving again it won't shift up until almost 3k rpms, and when it does, it hits extremely hard.
One of those other codes (2706 I think) it gets stuck in fourth gear and shows it on my display like I'm manually shifting. It won't shift up or down or anything it will stay in 4th gear. But whenever I turn the truck off or anything it resets it, still has the codes but it resets and runs fine for a while or a little bit sometimes. Sometimes it comes right back or whatever. I can clear the codes but they come back as soon as does that first hard shift and stays in third gear or whatever.
I need some troubleshooting and/repair procedures if anyone has any access to this info. Hopefully, it's just a blocked valve or something small versus and blown transmission.🤞🏼
I am not a mechanic but to be honest mine was pretty simple to trouble shoot. I knew it was the shift solenoid from the beginning. I had a past vehicle (different brand & model) do the same thing mine did which was give me a hard shift then basically lock itself in 3rd or 4th gear limp mode. When it happened to me on the freeway the first thing I did was get home and stop driving the truck until I got the parts. I didn't really need to purchase a Valve body but figured since I was already going to be in there and taking it out that it would be safe insurance for the future of the transmission. Once I pulled the pan down and saw nothing on the magnet I felt some relief and it was only re-enforced by looking at the stock valve body and not seeing any cracks. The P0871 and the P2706 seem to point towards the shift solenoid but that P281F seems to be something different. To be honest most of the time these vehicles have the same issue and you can basically google them based on vehicle year and type. Wish you the best of luck. sorry to hear you are having trouble.
Did you have to use an unlock cable to get the relearn function to work? Or just plug the obd lynk product right in and get to all the functions. I have a 16 ram 2500 68rfe?
I just plugged in the the obd lynk and used alpha obd app. No unlock cable required
Did you have any problems with your truck showing reverse even though it’s in park afterwards? 😅 the shift linkage definitely went into the fork. Can’t get it to start since it’s in “reverse”
No but I did take it off because i was worried the fork wasn't aligned. However I had no issues.
Any chance this would work on a 08 6.7? Have to put a valve body in and pump half and half to do a relearn
Don't really know. The app shows a body computer setting for 2006-2012 but since I don't have that year range I've never used it. Wish I was more help.
Can you post your parts list, please? I appreciate the video and the clear instructions.
I you go to the parts unboxing video, there are links there for all of the parts.

@@offroadicon Where do I purchase the alpha OBD quick learn app ?
brought mine Amazon
Great video! What did you use to connect to the obd2 connector?
Mx obd Bluetooth controller
Can you please send me the link OBD where I can buy I need one
So you’re saying if you have a grey connector; you can use a white one.
But what if I have a white connector, can I use a grey one? What’s the difference and have you had any problems?
Thanks bro!
The white module is the latest upgraded version. I wouldn't suggest going backwards.
Have you done any heavy towing with the new valve body yet
I tow my toy hauler on 37's and it's been really good. Shifts much smoother
For the Alfha obe do I need any special cable or something ? Because I have a 17 ram 3500 . Do you think it will work ?
You need the bluetooth adapter and the software on your phone or computer. I would check their website to see if it is compatible with your year truck. www.alfaobd.com/index.html
I’m about to do this with my 17. does it solve the shift flare as well? And mine only throws that code when I cold start and throw it into gear right away before letting it idle for a min
I never had that issue so unfortunately I don't have an answer for that. Sorry.
hello i am getting the same code po871 and po733 and po700 i keep turning the codes off they keep coming back it stop going in 3rd and 4th i changed the transmission it work for about 30 mins and it started back doing it all over again it will not go in 3rd or 4th again what can i do to fixed this i got a new pcm/tcm and 2 speed sensors and a pvs andit workfor a day and it started back again ....can you help me my truck is a 2004 dodge dakota 4 door SLT 4.7 trand is a 545rfe
2wd ..
I'm am not a mechanic. I wish that I could help but unfortunately I can only suggest to go to a professional or see if you happen to be able to Google the issue.
the seal you removed at 12:48 minutes- did that come with the parts from revmax?
Yes that part did come with the replacement filter. I ordered the filter with the metal thread insert replacement.
Hi does Alfa obd app works on BlueDriver Bluetooth obd scanner?
Have never tried it so I'm not sure.here is the link to their website, hope it helps. www.alfaobd.com/
Is there something different about the 2018+ model ram cummins that wont allow an "RFE relearn"?
I keep running into problems when trying to do an RFE relearn with my 2018. Do you need an unlock cable for that model?
I have alphaOBD and the obdlink MX+
I am not positive but I thought the cut year was 2019 late 2018. Not having that year makes it hard for me to test and let you know. Sorry.
Did u ever fix your problem
😮
I ended up having this code after installing my valve body. I guess it’s my solenoid ?
I'm definitely not a professional but from my understanding the code is usually for the solenoid. Did you try a quick learn after your installed it? I was originally going to only change my solenoid but when I saw people having issues with cracking on the VB I decided to change it too. However as you can see in the video, my VB looked fine once I took it out but I didn't want to chance it.
Can you tell me what alpha reader that is? Amazon link?
Thanks for the video.
Used to be called the MX + but I don't know if they still sell on Amazon. The alpha obd app is compatible with other Bluetooth ones however. Check out their website
Hi there, is there a reason why you have to disconnect the connector by the shifter?
You cant pull out the VB unless you disconnect the plug.
How long it took you to get yours rev Max?
Also I didn't get the big deep pan is that something I need to get or am I fine with the OEM pan?
Arrived in a week or so and yes I did the pan also. The stock one has no drain and more fluid is better when it comes to heat
@@offroadicon okay thank you
How many quarts did you end up needing?
A lot. I didn't really keep count but I went back 3 times to get more. I would bet I put in close to 15 quarts but don't quote me on that as it was a while ago.
Got to do a quick learn on my transmission what OBDLink did you use
the MX bluetooth module. got it from amazon.
@@offroadiconcan u add the link please
@@offroadicon Do you have to do the relearn? i am about to do this whole replacement on my truck in a few days.
@JLU24DR yes. I used alpha obd to do the quick relearn as shown in the video.
bro i did put valve body and new solenoid pack and its the same,.
I'm sorry to hear that. I would hope that there are no additional issues inside of your transmission that are causing any problems. I only upgraded the valve body to make sure that if I put more power down later it would not be a problem. I know normally just changing the solenoid pack out would help remedy the issue.
Was your truck getting stuck in 4th gear when code was thrown?
Yes. With a hard shift. Felt like it went from 2nd to 4th and that was the end of it
@@offroadicon mine was doing the same thing. I decided to do a stage 3 rebuild. Figure I'll need to do it at some point.
My 15 does the same but from 2nd to 1st should I try the quick learn?
I have a 2012 ram 3500. It got stuck in 4 th gear. I changed the shift solenoid. Code p0750. It ran good the next day on my way to work it went to 4 th again. I got a p0871 code. I reset the check engine light, and drove home fine, but should I change the transmission fluid pressure switch?
As much as I would love to give advice I will first say I am not a mechanic. My personal opinion would be to take it to a transmission shop. The 3500 transmission is different than my 2500 transmission. It could have a complete different reason for its issues including the programming.
Hey bud can you post a link to the app you’re using. Mine tells me to download OBDLink but it’s completely different than yours. I would appreciate it very much!
I purchased the older version of this one. Mine was not the plus. Then I used alpha obd from the android app store.
OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner for iPhone, Android, and Windows a.co/d/2tbk2io
You said after 11 quarts you had to add a lot more? How much more did you need?
I wish I could remember. I went to three different locations because it just kept needing more and they didn't have to many bottles. I want to say an additional 6 but would hate to give you wrong information.
Mines took 12 quarts in 09 Laramie
Where did you buy your alpha OBD?
It's free on the android play store or their website.
This common problem? Mine seems just get stuck 4 was gimp shifting between 5th/6th now it just gets stuck in 4th. Ahhhhhhh frustrated
I'm pretty sure that means it's going into a limp mode. I'm no expert but I would definitely limit the driving if possible.
I'd replace the governor pressure solenoids and while in there replace the valve body, deeper pan.. doing it right now on my 08 170 k miles
Gotta make sure the shift link on the valve body is all the way back, and aligns with the shift linkage to the trans. Sure u figured that out by now and hope it wasn’t something else! I gotta do this on my 12k mile 2021 🤦♂️. Already got a p0765 code, and a shift flare from 3-4….dealer says I have to leave my truck on their lot for 10-12 weeks WITH an active code before they will even touch it. Can’t bring it in at time of appointment…has to literally sit there. Screw the warranty and factory weak parts anyway. 80k truck and have to do all this…but hey I don’t plan on ever getting rid of it. Issues with egr at 3k…fixed that too 😉.

Someone said if I install a new valve body I will need a pressure control module
Not sure about that one
@@offroadicon u didn’t do anything more to your install.have you done any towing
How do I know if it's the valve body or solenoid pack?
If the VB isn't cracked your usually good with just replacing the solenoid pack.
Where can I order the same parts?
I ordered all the parts from Revmax direct. revmaxconverters.com/. Thanks for watching.
Very helpful thanks!
Anyother system to do the relearn part ?
To many parts named guy
🤔🤔🤔 I can only assume for the title. Either way appreciate the feedback.
Too mich talking better to work people gonna understand better
Thanks for the input and thanks for watching
What tool did you use to reprogram the valve body???
I used a Bluetooth OBD adapter with alphaobd and an android phone
what scanner did you used?
No scanner. Just an android phone with alphaobd app
