Y'all may not believe this, but I've got 420K on my 68 and that 4th gear limp mode just happened earlier this afternoon. Hence the reason for watching this video. Never has slipped or any other issues till today, but I don't beat on it either. That, and performing the maintenance every 30K miles. Thanks for posting this vid. It's very informative.
My brother broke his linkage pin off, we took an angle drill an drilled the hole out and made a pin out of a small shoulder bolt, put a nut on the other side and it still works
Really Enjoy all of your vids. You guys are obviously some of the best out there. Have about 90K on my 2011 H.O. 68RFE , truck has been deleted the past 5 years but running stock tune. (The stock power of the 6.7 does everything I need) Transmission shifts like a dream. Have ordered an upgraded valve body and deeper pan to get ahead of any future issues. With my H&S Minimaxx I can set my line pressure and would you say 200psi is a good safe pressure to run at that won't cause any problems with other components over time? Again, The transmission has always shifted flawlessly and nice and firm, especially after trans tuning when deleted 5 years ago. I am doing the valve body , pan, filters and fluid more for preservation than performance. Appreciate your advice....
Just had this done on my 07 . Has 100k. Worked fine at first. Now seem to stick from-4 to 5 and 5 to 6. Sometimes I can stomp it down and it will change gear.sometimes just stays in 4 or 5. Shop who did the valve body says not his problem. Had the code so that is why we did valve body. No problems shifting before this
On my 2018 2500 I recently threw the p0871 code while towing my toy hauler. Truck sat over night and I cleared the code with ez link and it towed my trailer fine home haven’t seen the code again but I have noticed a chirp when it shifts. I pulled the cvi data; 2c -48, 4c-53, L/R-64, ud-44, and od-22. Would a valve body fix my 68rfe or do I need to look at doing more?
What line pressure do yall recommend for these upgraded valve bodies with a fully built trans? I hear people talking about 225 to 250psi but figured yall would know best. Thank you.
@4:10. You can thread the hole and thread a bolt of the right size and diameter and even lock nut it on the back side to make a new shift pin. Don't ask me how I know.
Excellent information here. What do you guys think about the new valve bodies in the 5th gens? Supposedly Chrysler fixed a few of its shortcomings but definitely nothing like this. Should I consider something like this for my 2019 at its currently low mileage of 30k or wait until it has racked up a bit more mileage? I do have trans tuning.
My buddy has a 2021 ram 3500 DRW Laramie Longhorn with the standard output engine and a 68rfe. 32,000 miles and it gave out and lost 2nd and 5th. Not under warranty due to him buying it deleted. Currently installing a Revmax 850 transmission
Great information. What kind of parts washer did you use to clean up the valve body halves? The 2015 I’ve got here has almost 300K and just started setting the code. Depending on what the pan looks like I might recommend pulling the unit to freshen it up since new fluid is really hard on old high mileage clutches.
Is there anything to clean inside the shift solenoid assembly? If i remove the torx bolts holding the little silver cover around the main transmission wire harness connector, is a million little pieces going to go flying? Thanks.
I work for a Mopar dealership. Unfortunately I can’t install any of these parts. When get p0871 the O.D clutches are smoked with the balance spring cage broken. Under warranty I replace the valve body as we’re not allowed to repair them. The poor matching surface on the case is an issue to.
do you have to re-tune the trany if its tuned and deleted or can you just install it?? I have a ATS billit channel plate new accumulator pistons and separater plates??
No need for retune, the modifications we do remove the internal pressure limiters that prevent the trans to make over 170psi, so if your custom tune commands 200psi, with a stock vb it will only make 170psi max, a high pressure vb will now regulate at the commanded 200psi pressure, resulting in more holding power
I just had mine rebuilt. The input shaft broke and the case. Im having trouble with the torque converter locking up. The shop that rebuilt my transmission pulled the pan yesterday and said they couldn't find anything wrong. The only time it acts up is when I go to pull a camper. I scanned it while it was running and I'm getting random codes. Could the problem be with the wiring harness for the transmission or the sensors in the transmission
i have a low mile 145k, '09 68rfe. its locked in 4th gear, wont shift. was a sudden failure from normal operation with no abnormal stress. replaced solenoid pack and filters. otherwise clean trans inside. any idea of a failure? Also how important in the small "index" plate surface on valvebody?
Good afternoon, I would like to know if you have any link or any place that can indicate why we need to change the cup that goes to the springs, could you indicate a link or a store that sells this part
How does this compare to the Revmax vb, and do you ever plan to build and stock a firepunk 68? I know you don’t like them but I’m not sure theres a great alternative for a daily driver who still wants to use the creature comforts like the exhaust break and cruise. Allison/ATS maybe but that’s still new to the market.
We rate ours honestly, because a hp rating is merely a fraction of the equation, so while our build would hold 1400hp on a 4th gear direct drive dyno pull, a teenager doing bud light burnouts could do damage to it with 500hp. We want to educate our customers on what is realistic use and what's abuse
@@FirepunkDiesel Completely understood and that’s fair. Any thoughts on longevity over the stock unit? If it were you and you wanted to still use and sometimes abuse your 4th gen which route would you take? Any thoughts on the Allison swap from CA or ATS?
I know I’m two years late but today I dropped my ram off at a shop. I got the same p0871 code but this shop is telling me that 5th &6th gear is gone and the best thing for me is a complete rebuild for $6000.00.
What do you think about remax parts For the 68. Mine has 222000 miles and throws the code P0740. Ck engine light goes on and off the code will either say tcc circuit or no rpm drop at lock up
Revmax has good products. They have consistently been chasing better parts for the 68rfe for a long time. The biggest hurdle over the passed 5yrs in the 68rfe market has been releasing new products without the ability to wait for longevity results (driving a test truck for 100k miles). So in the R&D process, some customers have paid a portion of the R&D process along the way. Because of that, we have held back shipping nationwide until recently to make sure that we have a solid grip on the 68rfe platform before ramping up production and sales.
Any idea why my truck always blows the dipstick out 68 truck 100k miles shifts fine no slip no codes but every time I drive it the Trans dipstick is an inch or 2 out
I took my 13’ ram to the shop to get transmission fluid and filters change and solenoid, now the “mechanic” is telling me that transmission has to be reprogrammed because when he changes gears the transmission makes a loud sound, could you provide me any info if what he told me is any true or he install something the wrong way in my 68RFE?
Anyone have an idea of what this would cost? My 2018 just threw this code and was shifting hard out of 1st. I am afraid I will be stuck on the side of the road if I don’t do something soon.
Will that p0871 code come up and this problem happen if that filter is loose or comes off like you talked about early in the video when the pan was taken off
Where can I send mine to have the valve body rebuilt? I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew cab 4x4 with same code but it is a 545RFE. Is there such a rebuild for this transmission? Great video thanks.

If it doesn't move, then it's not because it's not programmed. It's either still low on fluid or the spin on filter isn't sealing correctly (could be cracked plastic piece the filter threads onto) or a mistake was made when the new solenoid kit was installed
I'm getting slipping on my 5th gear and possibly another gear. My transmission is a 66RFE. Is there a chance it could be the valve body? I'm just very reluctant to drag the transmission out my truck if I can tweak the valve body or clean it? In need of help, losing work as my truck is out. Local tranny shops are 3+ weeks behind and are charging insane prices.

I can hear mine yelling “this is what I need!!” 311k on stock 68. Never been above 210 degree’s. But now I’m having the issues you just described. Did you get a low rail fuel pressure code with this
