I would do the same depending on how easy getting in & out of the seat would be. I'm old now, and my body doesn't work the way it used to, so that would be the defining factor.., but I would LOVE to have one too. I remember when they came out waaay back when, and it was a feast for they eyes.
I thought it was my favorite too, and I still love it, but I saw a Miura SV up close a couple years ago and it was by far the coolest production car I've ever seen. I couldn't take my eyes off of it.
I wanted one when they were new, and I want one now. I'm glad he appreciates the rush of driving a car that communicates what it will, and will not, do - and more importantly, he's sharing that curiosity and excitement about cars like that with his children. That's truly awesome.
In my opinion, the Countach is the best good looking car ever made. It was so ahead of its time. Nowadays cars have over 1000bhp, they reach unbelievable speeds but they are soulless.
Not so shure. I have a late eighties mid-engined car of my own, not as fancy nor desirable, since it left the factory. My ex-sister in law who's still close to us, cannot get the idea of a sports car, mine in particular. Yes she drives a Prius. I'm 67 now and I don't see the day I'll sell it. Heck, my 2 brothers, the only ones I ever let drive it, tell me now "is'nt it time for you to get rid of it ? You're too old now for that." Duh. They really don't get it. They don't know the joys of getting it out of hybernation in spring, or on early Sunday mornings and just drive errand. The sounds, the High revs sound, the snick snick shifting. I simply love it. Some peole will never understand that.
Yep. Jay Leno said the same thing. He said he drove the Countach everyday for 13 years because "this car wasn't built to sit in a showroom for 30 years so it could become a highly desired classic so it could sit in someone's garage for another 30. No. This car was built to be driven & begs to be driven by a driver who not only loves the driving experience but also truly knows how to drive" Can't be said better.
Absolutely brilliant video, love the balanced view of family, lifestyle, education (esp. for the children), passion etc.. Where he says "... it's about sensory input...", there are very few cars on the road that give this like the Countach, it's ultra-analogue, something our senses are being deprived of more and more nowadays. Long live the Countach, and RIP Marcello Gandini, the genius who designed it, together with the engineers at Bertone/Lamborghini.

Man, good for you. That's how I grew up, working on cars with my dad. They were usually Ford or MOPAR though. Those were good times. The Countach was a poster on my bedroom wall, a daydream. Pure unobtainium.
My all time Favorite car. I remember seeing my first one as a young pup when my parents were watching Miami Vice. The white on white one that got chased by Don Johnson in that black Ferrari Daytona. Good times
If you have a chance, watch that episode again. You will notice that the rear end of the Countach changes throughout the chase. They used two different cars for that scene. A euro spec, and an American spec.

This is why MT is an analog car and very fun to drive.. I know the convinence of AT cars but no matter what, there's no pleasure of driving it without using the stick.. To use the stick is an art..
This is why kids need dad's....to learn the skills,pass down the knowledge,build the passion and preserve the history...all whilst having and making memories along the way

To me, the Countach will always be the ultimate Lamborghini; there's no car that's more exotic. Lambos are about outrageous looks, speed, a sense of occasion and a thrilling drive. It will never be topped because these days, due to all the rules and regulations, you just could not style a car so outrageously

I like the windscreen wiper delete option, with modern glass coatings and high pressure (aftermarket heated) washer jets there’s little need for wiper blades on an everyday car let alone a Countach 😁👍 beautiful car

I like the way you think, get it in and drive. Those were I think more of a drivers sports car back then. You had to truly love to drive to truly appreciate the car.
In my 20s in fla I had got the chance to drive one from a very Nice guy. Was on this back wood roads in fla and I stopped at this kinda run down tire shop . I needed air and it had some expensive rolls on the lift. And I was getting air in my tire for my junky Toya and all of a sudden this black p400 showed up to get tires .. i was in awe !! Whoa dude !after it came back out I kindly asked him if I get some pictures of it like the engine everything and he said YOUR ASKING ALOT KID I SUPPOSE YOU WANT TO DRIVE IT TOO ! ? I said no just pictures he threw the keys my way and said you drive I want to feel these new tires in the passenger seat. I got in nervous,,fired it up and just in first in 3 secs I was hitting 60mph ! Just to let you know I didn't make it to 4th. Before I was told to turn around. But what a rush I had !!! and I'll never forget this experience. Until I go senile.
I would like to share a story if I may, I was visiting a friend and we had went to one of his friends house to visit. When we got there the first thing I noticed was a bright yellow 1976 corvette in the garage. I am a car person, it's not about Ford or Chevy, it's about the car, and back the corvette had a style that like the Lamborghini back then, stood out. His friend didn't know me, never met, but he could see what I felt I think. He ask me if I wanted to drive it, my chin hit the floor trying to say yes.. he threw me the keys, I said your going with me. He lived in the hills of Missouri, on a 2 lane highway. Pulling out of his driveway, I was nervous, started out slow, got the feel of it, then he said, thought you wanted to drive it, well, drive it. Here to tell you, back then, those cars, drove heavy, and you had to drive it, not steer it, drive it. What a rush, pure excitement. Short drive, about 10 miles round trip, found a short straight away before I turned around and got to feel that power. Coming back I took the curves at about 90 or so, never squeal a tire. Pulled back in the drive with a smile from ear to ear. The man's wife came out as we were getting out and seen I was the one driving. She was shocked, said, you don't know him, and you let him drive. He said something that made me stand tall and proud, he's a driver, he knows what he's doing. Then our mutual friend said, you have known me for years and you never asked if I wanted to drive it, that's when I really started walking on air, he answered back, but I don't trust you, looked at me and said, I trust him. I told that story to say this, a true driver appreciates a true driver's car. In my book, the the older cars are made for the true drivers to enjoy, where as the new cars are made for steering wheel holders.
Hey that's Rist Canyon outside of Fort Collins and Laporte! I used to ride my Bianchi up those roads. I was at a much slower analogue pace in my Italian engineered machine. ; - ) I used to be able to hit 60 or 70 on the way back though.
I'd rather have one of these than an entire collection of modern paddle shift supercars.
