Hanging With The Elders Of Dagestan

- 🇷🇺 One year ago I was stranded on a mountain top in Dagestan when one guy saved me. We kept in touch and he invited me to return to his mountain village in Dagestan called Gagatli. Everything was great, except his car...
"Life is ok here right?"
"It's possible to survive"
These guys are hardcore
Bald: How is your town?
Dagestanis: It's possible to survive here.
Ben: "What's your secret to living so long?"
Babushka: *recites shahada*
That 101 year old lady was in her own world my dudes
Every country Ive been to thats been considered 'poor' has tried to give me the best meal they could afford, gifts, hospitality, etc. It really humbles you.
Khabib Nurmagomedov put Dagestan on the map for me.
The locals instantly respect Mr Bald because he can speak the language
that 100 year old lady was with god already
welcome to Dagestan from all over the world, we are waiting for everyone to visit, we have mountains, sea beaches of the desert and dunes, delicious natural food that you may never have tried, personally prepare to answer any of your questions who want to ask ask glad I will answer them and help you thanks!!!
Your dance was epic. I spit out my coffee..lol
thank you for helping him with his car Im sure that meant everything to him
It would have stuffed the video up if they’d broken down.
You respect the people you visit... that's what i like about you
"come eat with us" Only the one who have less that are willing to share
Bananas. Seems odd. Long trip to get there.
sahalanimation compare this to when he went to Bolivia. What a nice place
@@temptemp4174 yea I can understand that Bolivians don't trust Europeans but they were over the top. Here they are very welcoming
True
There’s no such thing as a broken Lada.
It works just as intended
facts
I always found it amusing that during the 80’s and 90’s, Ladas were seen as a poor Englishman’s car. They were driven until they would cost too much to keep on the road and then they pretty much ALL vanished.…I discovered around a decade later that instead of them being crushed at the scrapyard, they had been taken all the way back to Russia where they’re given a new lease of life. They had been looked after in England and never driven on roads like those on this video in Dagestan. I can imagine that many of those cars taken back to Russia in the nineties, could still be on the road. I recall there was quite a spate of Lada’s being stolen and nobody understood why because they were laughed at in England and then it was established they were all within a reasonable distance from one of the quieter British Ports (probably where they smuggle people into the U.K. now) they were being driven into Tam Containers rather than just driven onto the ship and they were then hidden during their journey. Of course no Ladas has alarms or immobilisers so were easy to nick. They were usually owned by older people so were well maintained and so the Russians loved those ones and they made good money for the crime ‘gangs’😂
It's the story of the hammer that never wears out. It just needs a new head or a new handle occasionally.

Man, when you see them saying, "Come and eat with us" that is some freaking amazing hospitality. Just met ya, eating on the side of the road, and want to offer the bit of food they have. Thats freaking awesome!
I love how the wee girl at school was drawing an imperial eagle on one page and had a bright colourful picture of a dog on another 😂
And a nice little mini lathe in the classroom.
The proper translation for that "it's possible to survive" line is "It's alright".
2:22 "when an elder comes near you, you stand up and bow"
2 sec later, old dudes stand up and bow to bald
He is treated differently as a respected guest.
well, you need to be someone from a community who knows what respect means to understand that.
God bless that heroic police officer. May he always be remembered.
Inukshuk67 i still remember when that happened as if it was yesterday, they first murdered his fellow cop right in front of him to scare him to beg for his life but he didnt, instead he encourage his fellow brothers in duty to continue the good Job. His face is all over the russia on the car windows, first responders vehicles and everywhere
Some solders from dagestan now wear lables with these words in Syria.

Such a cute little girl sitting in her classroom, and her colorful drawings were beautiful! I love your channel 🙌🏼
some of the friendliest people i have seen bald interact with
MI6 even trained Bald with the soviet dance moves to blend with the locals 😁
Only Mr Bald remembers someone and comes to visit him literally in the most remote part of the world in the middle of nowhere!
The best friend you can have
The babushka was reciting the shahadah at 6:30 "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger." Subhanallah. In our busy life we forgot the reality of life. We live as we are immortal and world is our permanent home. It's refreshing to hear about reality of life from those who have lived it. Mashallah
Your the Most interesting youtuber of 2019
I'm from Daghestan and you are 100% right about our roads! 😂😬
I like the way they respect older people, their hospitality
I always like when you're speaking Russian to locals and a look of amazement on their faces knowing you're English.
That little girl has a talent for drawing.
The road workers. "Come eat with us!". Outstanding, it shows the peoples are rarely the problem and it's usually the government's.
Brad
Exaclry right. It's the political and religious propaganda on all sides that's tries to divide all people
@Ginger Ginger every single civilization was the result of power centralization dumbass
I've noticed in America as an American we're born and raised to fear things that when in reality is actually quite safe without the safety nets attached. It is quite crazy.
Over simplification...In Saudi Arabia for example you would find it is very much the people being the problem...Women only allowed to drive this year....not a culture or people I would ever want to go near
@@coasteyscoasteys religion is what actually united the people of the Caucasus...
My dad was definitely not from dagestan, he had 6 kids and built zero houses for any of them lol.
I'm from switzerland, but even I'm impressed by this beauty of nature and Mountains!
*has an amazing view of the mountains*

Made more sense because of the lighting.

I live in a botlikh, come to visit positive foreigners, we are always glad to see you, because ordinary people live in a simple way and not as the government wants, so dear we are always happy.
Love from back home in England. 🏴
i want to reiterate that what he's doing is " work". the effort he puts into these videos and his ability to get candid responses is no easy task. to go deep out of your comfort zone, and trust that people are good, which by a large part they are, is hard. then to edit the videos etc thats a whole nother animal. he is breaking boundries. he is making people all over the world more comfortable and in tune with each other. what he is doing connecting people and the demeanor he presents is a a perfect mold anyone can follow traveling to another country. you may not know it bald, but what you're doing is extremely important for humanity. again, thank you and god bless
The people are absolutely welcoming and good people!!
Beautiful country!
" come and eat with us" - says a person that is working hard and is willing to share the little food he has for the rest of his day..
Much better than the big cities in developed countries were everyone is selfish and unpolite even if they are filthy rich !!
How's life here?
1st world countries: Ugh, it's rainy, I'm bored, and my wifi recently has been not working properly, I think I have a severe depression.
Dagestan: Good, it's possible to survive.
That’s capitalism for you.
@Chris B But in an original language he sad "possible to live" (жить можно) - not "survive")) A Little Benj mistake
When you asked his grandmother what's her secret to being old she just simply chanted "No god but Allah And Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah."
101 years, and she is still remember her God. Actually, on this video granny was "dizkr" , dizkr is the way you remembering The God. God bless you Uncle Bald

That guy's photo on school notice board was a legend. I had seen his video when he was handcuffed behind and asked to beg in front of terrorists.... but he refused and instead sent a message to his fellow countrymen to not to afraid of ........... and he was shot point blank...... his parents were honored by President Putin himself......
A road crew on lunch ask him to join them and willing to share their food, pretty much says it all about these wonderful People!
Today I learnend Dagestani folks treat their street signs like we do in rural Texas.
Can't get enough of the easy friendly and charming way you communicate with anyone and anywhere, as if meeting an old friend or even a relative - it's heartwarming and amazing and I always watch with a big smile on my face.
You have to approach this way it’s a psychological trick it makes people comfortable and have more trust in you
@Outside In YES sad, but it may have to do partly at least with rarity of visitors there while London is inundated with people from elsewhere resulting in unease and suspicion
@Outside In so sorry to hear. Get well soon.xx
Outside in - no you've got us britsh all wrong. We love Europeans and embrace cultures from all over the world. We have a problem with the EU as an organisation. They want to destroy European cultural individuality and for us to be a United states of Europe with unelected leaders. They're planning a tyranny or Empire to quote Guy Verhofstadt. The plan the EU has for Europe is horrific. We must get out
😎Your right, he does have a gift when it comes to communicating with people. He's very easy going and always makes the journey fun. You seem like a wonderful woman, I hope your doing good out there!💐☮💙🤙🏼
The little girl drew a picture of the Eagle "Khabib"
"Is life good here?" "It is possible to survive." Well, at least he's honest.
Guy Fawkes the answer is precise and accurate. The dumber people probably died years ago.
That's not what that means. "You can live here" is the direct translation. It sounds like "survive" (вышить) but the word is "live" (шить).
It's a common phrase in Russian speaking countries. It really means "Yea, it's not too bad to live here."
actually he didn't mention "survival", he said "Mozhno zhit" - literally "You can live here" or "Life is not that bad here"

Dagestan people seem incredibly nice and welcoming, unlike Bolivia.
The fact the elders, the school, and all the locals seemed very open and usually pretty interested with you Bald shows how even in remote places like this, great people are always about.

It's so good to have ALL my pre-conceived ideas shattered about the folk living in the former Soviet Union. They are so welcoming, friendly and incredibly generous. It's quite humbling when you contrast that with the self-centred, greedy west! They really do put us to all shame.
The simplest the people and culture, the more welcoming they are to strangers.

I went to Uzbekistan last summer and their culture is very similar there. I have to say that those former Soviet/Muslim countries have some of the nicest people! As long as you respect them they treat you as a brother and are always happy to see foreigners visit their country.
People in east are more beautiful than west, I don't know why. Even though the place is underdeveloped and they barely survive they are happy and also wants to make bald happy. Their life is fulfilled.
Very welcoming people, I love that they show respect to their elders, and it's absolutely gorgeous!
It's so warm to see how poor people who struggle everyday would offer you the little food they have to share while you'd never see that from elite who eats a $1k meal and call it cheap!
Damn Bald I'm so glad you're back in safe areas like Dagestan and Chechnya and out of Bolivia. I can worry less about you now.
You might be joking but the murder rate in Dagestan and chechnya is shockingly low...The highest is actually in the republic of Tuva...Those Budhist are actually fairly violent bunch...
Both Chechnya and Dagestan are way safer than Bolivia. Especially now after the military coup there
