Gotta love Danny "The Octopus" Carey. The man is a legend! What you said at the end about the song being an experience or taking you on a journey...you basically summed up just about every Tool song. You don't really listen to it, you experience it.
Pro drummers have noted that he starts on the mandala pads (the programmable digital drums with the pointy Thelema symbol on em) with alternating Swiss triplets, but that every time he completes a section of it, he adds a layer of complexity
Tool has so many amazing songs...Schism, Sober, Forty Six & 2, The Pot...lord there are too many to list...amazing drums, guitars and vocals...just absolutely a totally awesome unrated group. Thank you for sharing!🌹
I love watching people reacting to tool.. watching them being enlightened and possibly awakened to a new realm of musical experiences to a magnificent collective group of unexplainables who come up with such orgasmic melodic rhythms, riffs and lyrical possibilities that take us on a journey that, we, who have once experienced, come back over and over again, for the same, re intensifying moment we previously just encountered.
He is legit one of the very best drummers of all time. I’ve always liked Tool, but it took me years to actually truly listen to his drumming and realize how amazing he is. They went 13 years between their last two albums.
One thing I dig about Danny is his posture, sounds kinda goofy but his back and torso are aligned, looks comfortable yet engaged, just watching this cat is a lesson on proper drumming technique; his posture exudes confidence.
Actually, at nine minutes and 28 seconds he was using the left and right hands and then using the left foot to run the high hat and the right footballs drum, four separate rhythms, all at once, outstanding!
This piece of music and video by or with Danny is probably one of the best and most famous when it comes to rhythm, and especially the art of polyrhythm!!! And by the way, the band you also made a few reactions to, which is in practically every song, especially since 2016 since their current drummer is Jinjer!!! They often build polyrhythms into their special metalcore and various other music genres mix into their metal! That's why some people often have the feeling "what kind of rhythm and timing is that"?! 😉🤘🏼 from 🇨🇭
When you say that the middle part doesn't seem that complicated even if you know it maybe it is ... in reality that is the most complicated part: 99% of professional drummers would not know how to play it until after a long study.
The electronic equipment is just for the drums. It's the controls of the electronic pads he plays and some sampled sounds I think also come out of it. The general sound is mastered normally at a seperate stand in the middle of the venue by some sound guys.
You talk about rubbing your stomach and patting your head. Take that and apply it to your legs at the same time, and changing time signatures for different limbs lol.
In case you're wondering the beginning is an alternating 14/8 and 19/8 timing, it's a bit trippy. Four counts of 3 and a count of 2 then repeated with a 5/8 tag on the end.
Danny is without a doubt the best percussionist , in my opinion. Tool can mix four different times signatures, yet it sounds amazing. My favorite band forever. Maynard is a true artist, and his lyrics are so deep. I've been diagnosed with a brain tumor, this is my only thing on my bucket list, that I want, is to see them live. Not looking for sympathy, their music holds me together, on really difficult days. They are a gift, excellent musicians, and lyrical geniuses, ( to me). Thank you TOOL for keeping me together..
@@Nate-Prouty People don't understand how weird UA-cam is about it lol. I always have to explain it. Just because other people have it up doesn't mean I can. Some of my videos get blocked while other reactors are allowed to post their reactions. That's not something that I can control. Also, I can't predict which reactions will get blocked. So I'm making all of them transparent to avoid visual copyright claims (which sometimes cause my reactions to get blocked). If it was up to me then things would be different. But I'm in UA-cam's world and I have to play by their rules.
I love watching Danny play! Can you believe he’s 60? 😦 He’s an absolute legend 🖤 🐙🐐 They are SO AMAZING live!

The part that starts at 9:30 is actually the hardest. His arms and legs are all in different beat. It's just insane how good this guy is.

So many more than these most liked songs.
@@ryanyeager1797 Absolutely! But I didn't want have time to list them all.🌹

How relaxed he is speaks volumes. It's a form of meditation I'd say. Completely in tune with what's happening.

Smashed it
Tool 🤘🖤

So glad you did this one. Danny Carey is the best!
BEST BAND EVER!!!!!
Bruh if you want a song that is like a movie, check out Descending.

At a certain time all 4 limbs are literally doing different things! Danny is a mastermind
Tool Army 🤘
Architects - Gravedigger
Danny is the GOAT. Great reaction. If you want to check out another cool (but different) drum sound , check out Unleash the Archers “Awakening”.
How do I get that poster?
Too bad we couldn't watch the video along with you.😪
Right?! He likes to be the center of attention apparently lol.
Right?! Please tell UA-cam to lighten up on their copyright restrictions. 🙂
@@KurtisB There are a lot of reactions to this that have the video included. I saw this performance live, though, so not much could top that. 🙂
Oh, you do have the video there it’s just faded… that’s enough, I think.

More TOOL The pot, Rosetta stone the Grudge 46&2
I'm glad I've already seen the video cause the opaque video blows.
We can't see it in his face when we cant see his face😄
All that aside, I do enjoy the reaction videos!
Hi can you plzzzz react to Vintersea? progressive melodic death black metal band!
Vinny is that you? lol
Too bad people couldn’t see the video and just had to stare at your face the whole time. Thank God I gave it 30 seconds and dipped lol.
Thanks for the comment! 🙂
@@KurtisB Thanks for the horrible reaction too. Lol
@@sevenduster27 You seem cool.
My brain hurts... I tried but next time make shure audio and video are in sync on the one you react to before upload 😏
Wish I could see the video better. The opacity is to dim because your microphone is in the way there. Lol oh well.
I feel you. I was trying to avoid getting the video blocked. Copyright issues are a b*tch with UA-cam.
