Well you see the problem is that sadism requires empathy and most part of psycopaths does not have any bit of empathy at all so there are indeed psycopaths who are sadists but these make up only 1% of the psycopath population.
I love everything about this video but I have to point out that while you kind of lump Negan in with other characters you label as psychopaths, he is most certainly a sociopath. As revealed in his origin story, he started out as a normal, everyday husband who, after the loss of his wife and several other travelling companions, snapped and decided to abandon emotion and compassion in exchange for what he thought was strength and superiority over others. Fast forward a couple years, and we meet him on the road as he bashes in Glenn's skull. He didn't find his place in the world because he didn't fit into standard society like psychopaths, the trauma and horror of the new world changed him into who he is when we first see him, a ruthless and undeniably sociopathic dictator.
Good point. We don't know a lot of Joe's back story, but it seems like he was probably a similar type of person, though not necessarily the same type of behavior. The closest I think they might have to a psychopath is Merle, who only really redeems himself at the end. He was obviously involved in a lot of criminal behavior prior to the outbreak and didn't always show a lot of care for Darryl. Other than that redemption, he consistently comes off as the character who only cares about himself.

Sociopaths are actually capable of making emotional connections with people, just not nearly as many as they normal person, so Sherlock is actually in all likelyhood a sociopath but like he says in the show a high functioning one.

I think its really funny how a majority of older fans/guys hate carl, but i always see the 13-15 year old girls obsessing over him. I had this girl in my class years ago who would not talk about anything other than him and even learned how to use photoshop just to put her and him in a picture together and try to convince people he was her boyfriend.

I'm just way out of tune with my emotions. I don't miss people. I don't really feel anything if people die or if a friend leaves me. Their was that ONE time during the manhatten project when that one science guy was told by the other science guy that nukes might just completely evaporate the entire atmosphere. Batman is most definitely a Sociopath. He displays obsessive behavior, has a god complex, and believes (whether right or wrong) that his answer is always right, becoming judge, jury, and executioner (metaphorically) himself. However that doesn't make him evil. Bruce may be sociopathic, but he still has his own moral justice.

I have a theory that I hope Reachesl somebody. My theory is that the beginning is the end and the end is the beginning. Remember when Rick walked out of the hospital and saw the helicopter? The reason why Negan works over others so much more is that he *does* display altruism, and understands that he has to give to save his ass. It's why people worship him so much. You can see him do it, doling out random gifts to both his friends and his enemies, rewarding them for their efforts when it's due.
Actually that is not the definition of altruism. Altruism means doing good for its own sake, not desiring or expecting anything in return. Negan is giving out gifts and rewards as a kind of positive reinforcement. It's a psychological technique similar to giving a dog a treat after it does what you want it to do, to train it to continue doing those things that you want it to do. That is definitely not altruism.
Altruism doesn't exist of course though, just a basic knowledge of evolution tells you genes which tell somebody to do things which benefit somebody else (and thus will almost certainly disadvantage them) will NOT get passed on, it's just not a good survival instinct. I mean sure in the modern day evolution is kind of fucked up as we've turned it into survival of everybody but I still seriously doubt true altruism has or ever will exist.
In season eight (spoilers) you see home cooperating with Gabriel to escape the trailer thing that was surrounded by walkers so he does do teamwork when it's due and he does have emotions over others (spoilers once again) but when carl died in Season 8 you can tell it took him off guard because he really like the kid, he also showed sadness when he was talking about his and how she passed, he isn't a physchopath but rather someone who wants to survive and have the best supplies for his people and rules apply when u have such a big group.
Hi! Psych grad with a personality disorder here. A couple things. First, you're mostly right in your classification of sociopathy and psychopathy. However, you can't be diagnosed with psychopathy or sociopathy. ASPD is more of a spectrum, and those words are just colloquialisms used to describe different places on that spectrum. Informally, psychopathy is considered to be "more severe" because of the complete lack of empathy and extremely blunted emotions. Sociopaths can have the capacity for empathy and/or emotion. Also, not everyone with ASPD is homicidal. In fact, most people with the diagnosis have never had an urge to hurt anyone or anything, and can live full lives with families and friends. Second, people can't be "made into" psychopaths/sociopaths in adulthood. You're absolutely correct that abuse and severe stress can result in someone developing ASPD, but the trauma had to have happened in early childhood, with antisocial behavior usually emerging in the mid-teens. So the people in the show had to have had A) severe childhood trauma, and B) prior incidents of antisocial behavior. In the small percentage of people with ASPD who experience homicidal thoughts, sometimes an extreme stressor (like the apocalypse) can trigger the person to actually start killing people. Third, I agree with your conclusion that psychopaths/sociopaths would not do well in an apocalypse, but not for the reasons you presented. People with ASPD are capable of acting in ways that would benefit a group, but the act would have to benefit the person in some way. For example, a person could share their food with someone in the group to gain favor with them, rather than out of generosity. Their power to manipulate is what puts them in leadership positions. However, their ultimate downfall would be in their impulsivity. In a life or death situation, you can't afford to engage in activities that are unnecessarily dangerous. The impulsive risk taking could have many deadly outcomes, and I think that is what would lead to them getting picked off.

Well you see the problem is that sadism requires empathy and most part of psycopaths does not have any bit of empathy at all so there are indeed psycopaths who are sadists but these make up only 1% of the psycopath population.
Depending on the end it can justify the beginning though.
Another thing is that both sociopathy and psychopathy fall on a spectrum, making some cases worse for others.

I love everything about this video but I have to point out that while you kind of lump Negan in with other characters you label as psychopaths, he is most certainly a sociopath. As revealed in his origin story, he started out as a normal, everyday husband who, after the loss of his wife and several other travelling companions, snapped and decided to abandon emotion and compassion in exchange for what he thought was strength and superiority over others. Fast forward a couple years, and we meet him on the road as he bashes in Glenn's skull. He didn't find his place in the world because he didn't fit into standard society like psychopaths, the trauma and horror of the new world changed him into who he is when we first see him, a ruthless and undeniably sociopathic dictator.
Same could be said for The Governor as well. He was by all appearances a normal guy until he lost his family.
Good point. We don't know a lot of Joe's back story, but it seems like he was probably a similar type of person, though not necessarily the same type of behavior. The closest I think they might have to a psychopath is Merle, who only really redeems himself at the end. He was obviously involved in a lot of criminal behavior prior to the outbreak and didn't always show a lot of care for Darryl. Other than that redemption, he consistently comes off as the character who only cares about himself.

Vikings were Not mythical super Warriors, if you get Hit by an arrow in the Battlefield you were pretty much done for.
Vikings and Knights wore Chainmail with gambersons underneath. Sure, you could say Vikings and Knights are just human, but the low draw weight Japanese yumis are not able to pierce through riveted chainmails and thickly layered gambersons.
On top of that, I don't even think Japanese mounted archers would be able to hurt them in any way because Viking Skoldrs and European Kite shields are just too effective in blocking any kind of projectile as either shields were highly capable of protecting the entire body.

He displays obsessive behavior, has a god complex, and believes (whether right or wrong) that his answer is always right, becoming judge, jury, and executioner (metaphorically) himself. I think one of the most sad, disturbing part of this series that is an example of change because of the zombies, is when Carol has to shoot the little girl because she killed her little sister because she will "come back".
But aren't we all slightly psychopathic? I remember a TED talk where a guy pretended to be insane but slightly too good and ended up in an asylum. He tried to show his sanity but then ended up being diagnosed with being a psychopath. The speaker (forgot the name, sorry) concluded that we're all slightly psychopathic and I agree with that opinion.

I recommend you read the wikipedia article because there is more critea than just being selfish. It would need to be a constant issue that you are almost plauged by for it to count as being psychopathic.

I have a theory- at the end of Doctor Who part 2, MatPat said that there was a real person who was shown everywhere throughout time. My theory is that MatPat made that up and has been since searching throughout the internet to see if his proclamation was correct, because otherwise people would hate on his doctor who theory for it.

The reason why Negan works over others so much more is that he *does* display altruism, and understands that he has to give to save his ass. It's why people worship him so much. You can see him do it, doling out random gifts to both his friends and his enemies, rewarding them for their efforts when it's due.
Actually that is not the definition of altruism. Altruism means doing good for its own sake, not desiring or expecting anything in return. Negan is giving out gifts and rewards as a kind of positive reinforcement. It's a psychological technique similar to giving a dog a treat after it does what you want it to do, to train it to continue doing those things that you want it to do. That is definitely not altruism.
Altruism doesn't exist of course though, just a basic knowledge of evolution tells you genes which tell somebody to do things which benefit somebody else (and thus will almost certainly disadvantage them) will NOT get passed on, it's just not a good survival instinct. I mean sure in the modern day evolution is kind of fucked up as we've turned it into survival of everybody but I still seriously doubt true altruism has or ever will exist.

In season eight (spoilers) you see home cooperating with Gabriel to escape the trailer thing that was surrounded by walkers so he does do teamwork when it's due and he does have emotions over others (spoilers once again) but when carl died in Season 8 you can tell it took him off guard because he really like the kid, he also showed sadness when he was talking about his and how she passed, he isn't a physchopath but rather someone who wants to survive and have the best supplies for his people and rules apply when u have such a big group.

Hi! Psych grad with a personality disorder here. A couple things. First, you're mostly right in your classification of sociopathy and psychopathy. However, you can't be diagnosed with psychopathy or sociopathy. ASPD is more of a spectrum, and those words are just colloquialisms used to describe different places on that spectrum. Informally, psychopathy is considered to be "more severe" because of the complete lack of empathy and extremely blunted emotions. Sociopaths can have the capacity for empathy and/or emotion. Also, not everyone with ASPD is homicidal. In fact, most people with the diagnosis have never had an urge to hurt anyone or anything, and can live full lives with families and friends.
Second, people can't be "made into" psychopaths/sociopaths in adulthood. You're absolutely correct that abuse and severe stress can result in someone developing ASPD, but the trauma had to have happened in early childhood, with antisocial behavior usually emerging in the mid-teens. So the people in the show had to have had A) severe childhood trauma, and B) prior incidents of antisocial behavior. In the small percentage of people with ASPD who experience homicidal thoughts, sometimes an extreme stressor (like the apocalypse) can trigger the person to actually start killing people.
Third, I agree with your conclusion that psychopaths/sociopaths would not do well in an apocalypse, but not for the reasons you presented. People with ASPD are capable of acting in ways that would benefit a group, but the act would have to benefit the person in some way. For example, a person could share their food with someone in the group to gain favor with them, rather than out of generosity. Their power to manipulate is what puts them in leadership positions. However, their ultimate downfall would be in their impulsivity. In a life or death situation, you can't afford to engage in activities that are unnecessarily dangerous. The impulsive risk taking could have many deadly outcomes, and I think that is what would lead to them getting picked off.
