I've played guitar for a long, long time and have always loved this song. Since I couldn't figure it out on my own, I finally realized I could check UA-cam. Figured that someone would have some kind of breakdown of it even if it wouldn't be quite right (like so many examples on YT) When Undone taught by Randy Bachman popped up, my eyes practically popped out of my head. What a wonderful and unselfish gift from a great musician. Thank you so much Randy .

I'm only a few years younger than Mr Bachman. When I was a kid, if we wanted to learn a song, we bought the sheet music for 35 cents and took that to our guitar teacher on Thursday after school.
Today you tune in to UA-cam anytime, day or night, and the original artist shows you how to play it.
You young musicians of today have a lot of great resources. Thanks Mr Bachman. And thanks in advance to all the future "Mr Bachmans"..🙂

Randy, u will likely never see this but i just want to say that as a player of 50+ year and a kid who grew u on the beatles, i feel i know what great music is. And if i were to make a list of the greatest 10 songs ever written, Undun without a doubt would be on that list. You can credit those jazz books if you wish, but a song that otherwordly doesn't just happen because you learned some jazzy chord subsitutions from a book. That came thru you from some source that gifted you. Undun is Unreal. Thank you for writing it. This is a song worthy of being played at one's funeral.

Humble, honest, cool, brilliantly harmonic, and super talented...! But most of all, a real representative of what music was about in the past. Unlike today's discardable, monotonous lousy pop, good old rock was honest, cool, brilliantly harmonic, and made by super talented people... like Randy Bachman!!

Another classic. It reached out and grabbed me hard when it was first released all those years ago. I’ve never tired of it. The chord changes and Burton’s vocal are pure sonic bliss. Especially at the end of the tune where it stops and Burton’s voice breaks as he sings “she’s...come...un...dun.” The chemistry between Randy and Burton was extraordinary.

I Love Randy Bachman. He kept me and all of my friends out of trouble with his positive lyrics and great motivational music throughout the 70s and forward.
Unlike much of rock at that time, his words hinted at, or just came right out and plainly said, "Don't get yourself in trouble" or "Be a trouble shooter".
We paid attention and it worked.
    Thank you, Randy Bachman!!!

From what I've read, this song was inspired by an incident in which a girl jumped out of a window after taking acid. But I think it can also be about anything hard to get out of that people get themselves into.

It's a bit awkward, but for those of us with small hands, there is a way to play the Cflat5 chord without using your thumb. You use your middle finger to fret the bass C note on the 6th string, as follows:
    C - Middle finger, 6th string 8th fret
    C - Pinky, 4th string 10th fret
    E - Ring finger, 3rd string, 9th fret
    F# - Index finger, 2nd string, 7th fret
To do the change to the B chord, all you have to do is slide your pinky, ring, and middle fingers down one fret, while keeping your index finger where it is.
Like I said, it's awkward; but it is definitely doable. I knew all along what was happening harmonically with this intro, but I was never able to work out this fingering until just now, watching this video. Besides being a great musician, I think Randy Bachman has some guitar teacher in him, lol!
