I LOVE THIS CHANNEL discovered it today. Love the Irish in general and this guy is just so interesting I watched the whole video which rarely happens with me, I get bored easily with poor UA-cam videos!!!!!!!
I haven't tried bamboo in this garden but after this I am tempted to do so to hide a couple of neighbors 'crap corners' (corners of their yard where they throw leftover kids toys, pots, garden decor, wood & lumber, bricks, fire pit waste, left over dirt etc.). Thanks John.
Great enthusiasm...very informative and I'm looking for tall clump forming bamboos Fargesia ...to screen a tall property but the music is driving me "Nut's".
Love your video! Fun and really informative. I've just got my first bamboo plants today and excited to learn more about them . Hopefully they will do well for me in Sligo! Tks
Loves this guy, he is animated and interesting. It makes you want to listen and watch more. Sorry John, I am not a fan of bamboo, too invasive in a backyard garden.
Hi John thanks again for the advise I replaced the Phyllostachys plants non-invasive Fargesia Robusta Clumpers thanks again for the advise and warning about runners. Thank you.!!!
Came here for information about my two favourite bamboos, both Sasa, haha. For me japonica and palmata are the most exotic looking bamboos. I'm really not doing well looking for some confirmation bias to keep them in the ground.
i like the timber bamboo. i have ben growing it for 10 years. i have a large patch of it that i keep cleared out enough that you can walk through like a small forest. so far they get about the size of your uper arm and as tall as 30 to 40 feet. bamboo is an amazing and beautiful plant. i hope one day to have my entire property , all 5 acres covered in timber bamboo with my house in the middle. i live in the deep south in the U.S.i live in the country surounded by forest with no other houses with in several miles. and while it will grow ok here it grows very slow from year to year. each year i get about 40 new shoots and thats all. still i would not take anything for my bamboo.
Hi, Chris... I live in the south also in a remote area but not as remote as you. Prior to living in Appalachia, I lived in Fort Lauderdale. I would go on walks through the neighborhood and there was one house that had a huge stand of bamboo of the sort you wrote about. The stalks were very huge in height and also in girth. What I found so thrilling was the sound of the stalks colliding in a wind. Such a very comforting sound... Nature's gift to our senses. Thank you for your post as it brought back such wonderful memories.
Oh no :( I've just bought some pseudosasa japonica and it wasn't cheap either. It was to go against a huge 3m breeze block wall. Not sure what to do now...
nice im looking for some bamboo for shade mostly to put it in a large potter in the back porch and provide shade with maybe a hieight of 12 ft and that leans or arches so my birds cages and my coffee table can go under it. i like to think of runners as underground vines .
Hi John, I am in the process of cutting down a golden cypress as it is now growing into my neighbours garden. Can you advise me please as to what I can plant there that will not impinge on my neighbour
Root barriers do work to a point, if installed properly. An entire clump can get congested if totally surrounded by a root barrier because there is nowhere for the new fresh shoots to go.
Great information; thanks. I'm looking for a clumping bamboo that grows very tall 30 to 40 feet or higher. I live in east Texas near Jacksonville with iron red clay soil but good irrigation. Can you tell me what variety of clumping bamboo I can use??
I have arrow bamboo in garden if check running roots they not that in deep ground you can stop running roots go to big bamboo check everytime in my garden
Hi John, great video, I have two Phyllostachys aurea bamboos in very large containers, what is the best fertiliser for them, the leaves are now turning papery thin and yellow.
MrUniman69 you may have planted it to deep in the soil. Bamboo plantings to best with a "mound planting " basicly a mound of dirt above the actual level ground. Nitrogen fertilizer is best.. I recommend organic Mushroom compost.
Bamboo is the worst idea ever. If I ever moved (just to get away from the bamboo here) I would never ever buy a house that had bamboo or even if the neighbor had bamboo.
I love his energy. Very positive and entertaining. I want him to be my friend.
Love this guy. Great passion
Really interesting guy. I’d like share a six pack of beer with him and watch him bounce around talking about bamboo. 😄😁
This guy is really clear with descriptions and "dos and don'ts!..and speaks so easy to Camera!
Yeah John! Funny, impassioned, knowledgeable!

Hey John
Can you say something about Black stemmed bamboo? Phyllostachys Nigra?
Great and informative video. I laughed at the outro and subscribed! 😁

My brother had a hell of a time getting rid of it, he must have had the runner kind. I personally like it . I love your videos
You've grown so much John

AGreat video John.

Blessings From Birmingham England :)
I prefer the dark green stem, more than the yellow one
This is brilliant info. Thanks.

Both those Sasa Bamboos were planted in the garden of an old house we bought. We had a forest!
Love the herb 😀
hi where can I get bamboo plants, Im in the North of Ireland, I want the clumping kind as they are not invasive.
You are adorable!!
Which one tastes the best though. I like bamboo shoots.
Thanks a very informative video.
Thanks for the information. You didn't comment on root barriers though?
Root barriers do work to a point, if installed properly. An entire clump can get congested if totally surrounded by a root barrier because there is nowhere for the new fresh shoots to go.
Can I line the hole in which I'm planting the bamboo with landscaping fabric and keep it from spreading ?
Great information; thanks. I'm looking for a clumping bamboo that grows very tall 30 to 40 feet or higher. I live in east Texas near Jacksonville with iron red clay soil but good irrigation. Can you tell me what variety of clumping bamboo I can use??
Thanks for the info mate
I have arrow bamboo in garden if check running roots they not that in deep ground you can stop running roots go to big bamboo check everytime in my garden
What is it tree on the left ?
Wow, I had no idea the height of the bamboo is one season's growth (new shoots). Interesting.
Too late for my sasa ,it is running allover the gaff. Thanks

Do you have any Costa Rican Weeping Bamboo we can see?? Judi.
What is that lovely purple shrub in front of the second bamboo?
Cotinus ( nickname smoke Bush) & I think that variety is called grace 👍
I really like your videos John, but the musak in the background is really distracting.
You're good.
👍👍👍
Cool and informative video
I like bamboo in my Chinese food
I think you mixed up Fargesia and Phylo a few times at the beginning there
Haha the first was not fargesia...
Reminds me of Michael Scott from the office
Great to watch but get rid of the elavator music 😂😂😂😂 it's a pain to listen to, prefer it without 😉
Now I know I have something in common with a magpie 🤪❤️
You said it's a Phyllostachys, then said it's a Fargesia! that sounds Tirish! Make yer moind ap noi!

Is he drunk?
