I went to a Buddhist temple in Augusta Georgia one time and they served fresh bamboo soup you would not believe how amazingly refreshing bamboo is to the soul and the palate!!!!
I was just researching bamboo, so I'm glad to have a bunch of resources listed here. I'm very excited for your video series/courses coming up for the home owner!
Bamboo is a noble plant. I would plant on my property in Miami for hurricane protection winds as hedges but they are expensive at that time. Now a have mini bamboos on pots for good luck. Love your video today Thanks
I wish the large clumpers would survive here. This winter only got down in the 20's but usually we hit single digits a few times. As it is, I'm limited to where I can plant the phylostachs, but I have 11 different varieties. The Moso is something to behold!
our Giganeous has survived and is putting out 100-foot shoots. Very little damage this year. We are 15 miles North of Gainesville Florida. Also growing Hamiltonii and Asper among the other 30+ varieties
I have golden Hawaiian, an unknown green clumper probably multiplex, punting pole, emerald bamboo, and giant timber. Mostly free dug up rhizomes here in Palm Coast Florida. They all get planted from December through January out of 15-25 gallons and they are doing solid. Little leaf burn but lots of new green coming through. Also got a major pile of cedar wood chips in my front yard from a tree trimmer, game changer for this year. Got my bananas, mulberry, guava, bamboo, figs all that stuff surrounded in large mulch piles. Trying to learn from guys like you thanks brother!!
You know what, Pete? I really like you, sincerely. You are a real guy. At first, I thought. Here's this dude, doing these things to promote himself and his business. I'm down with that and good for you. But, then, you screwed up and started showing the world your empathy, your humanity, your LOVE. It's a pure, simple, non-competitive, envy-free, beautiful love for your fellow man. I would consider it an honor to meet you and to buy from you often. You're a true heart. There are so very few of you left on earth. I'm doing everything in my power to build a neighborhood and, I'm getting no where. You seem to have a stronger energy and a deeper commitment. Grateful to get to know you through UA-cam. Hope to meet you. Hernando isn't that far from Altamonte Springs. I like to say, "I come from a world which doesn't exist anymore". Actually, I'm saying it twice since November 3rd. But you're from a better world, too. All the very best to you Pete Kanaris, Greek dude. I'm O'Brian, the Irish descent.
I love your d. asper. I planted one after one of your earlier videos where you went to Loxahatchee (great place, loved the rainbow eucalyptus they have) you posted about. Nice to see how yours are doing!
Thanks for this video! Your videos turned me on to growing clumping bamboo in my yard. Seabreeze is a favorite; an absolutely stunning and fast growing green wall even in our hellish summers in AZ. Your place looks amazing as always!
Hey Pete, if I planted a clumping bamboo densely in a giant circle and after a few years planted a running variety in the center, would the rhizomes of the clumpers contain the runner?
Suffering bigly from mulch envy...but bamboo, I am totally in love with, especially the golden, so striking...I feel a trip to Echo Farms in my future, they have beautiful bamboo, I am hooked too...and needy...
Very beautiful property. How many acres you have there? I would love some bamboo clumps to shade the house during summer but very small lot in South Florida sub urban community.
I wanted to do that here in Lake County over here in Tavares I wanted it down the acre face of the property not by the power line I like the giant bamboo but you’re right it does get a bit evasive I wanted it for building material and I wanted it for a food source for animals but the clumping seems to not get out of hand but I wanted to kind it people could eat as well because I have this thing about growing things that you can eat if you can’t use it for anything that I don’t wanna here😂
I love bamboo! Which ones are good for privacy hedges between houses that are not too tall? I only have a 1/2 acre so i don't want to shade my whole yard.
Have learned so much about permaculture from you through your videos and have ordered from your nursery as well! Would you consider making a video about how you developed into a permaculturist? Didn’t you mention that you had taken a course with Geoff Lawton? Would love to know more about that. Thanks!
Good to see a bamboo lover on the other side of the sphere. I'm from Kerala in India and have been planting bamboos since 2014.Have planted more than 4000 in 65 species till now and there are some 6 something species whose scientific names are still to be identified. Have species from the smallest Shibitea Kumasaca to the biggest Dendrocalamus Giganteus. Also have a climbing one named Dinochloa Andamanica. Would like if someone help me get some Phyllostachys and FARGESIA seeds.
I have an unrelated question for you. My partner and I plan to buy somewhere in Florida. We are Canadian, so we will only be able to be there six months of the year. My goal is to plant a food forest on a few acres of land. Nothing is set in stone AT ALL, so it could be one acre or it could be 20 acres. All I know for sure is that I want to grow as much fruit as possible. I’m vegan but lean heavily on fruit. Soooo...my question is, based on property value and climate, where would you suggest we look at buying. We were in the Sebring area when the pandemic hit and we did really like that area, but I’m looking for suggestions from people who know more of the state AND know about plants and food forests.
Hey you! We need more like minded people in Florida. I would invest on one of ridges, like lake wales or Brooksville ridge. Lots of topography, water and decent soils.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL I hear the company behind called Only Moso isn't good to partner with. I want to grow and produce bamboo completely free of any proprietary type companies behind it. The Seabreeze variety, how big/tall does it get?
Yes, we try to keep a wide range of fruit trees in stock. It’s been quite the struggle the last 6 months with Covid. I’m just over an hour from Lakeland.
Pete Big Fan! I'm in Texas and my Graceful bamboos took an absolute beating from that winter storm a few weeks ago....do they have any chance at bouncing back? All the leaves are crunchy and the stocks are more on the yellow side. Can they grow new leaves or do you think i should cut it all the way down? Thanks
Bro! This is great. You are living the dream. I ordered some black bamboo seeds and orange seeds online. Excited. Will likely come get a bunch of plants from you once we get our spot. Thank you for sharing. This is my favorite channel:). Love your positive energy. Do you drink coffee or just naturally stoked ?
Thanks man! It will be interesting to hear how that bamboo does from seed, they aren’t very common to produce seed. I do drink a little coffee in the am but the excitement is natural 👊
I have geese outside and I thought they were coming from outside I stopped your video and I realized it was from your video to you got up around that way you have Geese..😂
That clump at 17:45 that you said was Asian Lemom looks more like bambusa emeiensis flavidovirens to me. Not much if any lower branching and larger culms.. also has solid green culms with deeper green variegation on some.
Beautiful and informational. Anybody got neighbors in Central or South Florida (Sebring down to homestead) via 27 or 95 with Oldhamii or Blue Bamboo they are trying to manage and producing free clippings and shoots? I am trying to propagate. Thanks.
Pete it’s been 2 years we need a Bamboo update 🎉
I love to see large old trees. Those trees are such a beautiful shape.they must be over 100 years old.
Your property is absolutely gorgeous. Love all the plants, and the way the light filters through the trees gives it a magical quality

Wow - that’s neat!

My favorite bamboo is defiantly Black bamboo it just looks so good with those dark black canes
Same here! I love it
Just know it is not very wind or cold tolerant.
Have a neighbor here in Tempe, AZ, also into plants & has a few varieties of bamboo ! I’ll have to turn him into this terrific video, Pete !
Thanks Jeff! 👊
I’m thinking about running clumping variety that I could use for fodder for goats or animals
Beautiful property, some bamboo would liven it up. Thanks for the tour.
DUUUDE! I love your mulch.
Identifying a plant by the sound of the wind surging through the leaves is incredibly impressive.
Bamboo is very helpful for farm working. It is suitable for empty areas. Your farm is very big. Thanks for sharing
Thanks 😊
Outstanding, I always learn from you! Thank you for your passion and for sharing 🙏
Thanks buddy 👊
Would be great if you visit Andy's bamboo farm and post it here.

Very interested in big bamboo and structural things you can do with it! Cool vid ya got it going on Pete--as per usual.
Awesome dude!
Thanks bro! 👊
I have a loquat tree that is only about 6-8 feet tall. I would love to see a video on that. including the best time to harvest the fruit.
He made one recently
I harvest it when it’s slightly soft to the touch. Maybe depends on variety?
@@zachariahstillwater thanks I most have missed that one. I will look. Thanks for the info.

Nice Job, what type of grass you have growing in the shade?

Waiting for the sugar cane and plantains next :)

Just over 12 acres

Great video! Are there any varieties of noninvasive bamboo you would recommend for use as a 10-15’ h privacy screen ? Regions- central Georgia
As long as they are not a "running" variety, most "clumping" varieties will do the trick!
I love bamboo! Which ones are good for privacy hedges between houses that are not too tall? I only have a 1/2 acre so i don't want to shade my whole yard.
I like graceful
Nice video. Do you use well water or municipal water? Bamboosa Gracilis grows well here in Tampa
We use well water but city water is fine for bamboo.
watching here in ksa Saudi Arabia
Awesome 😎

Ohh wow I have bambusa malingensis (seabreeze) planted everywhere but never hear it was edible 😱 Is that for sure ? Have someone try it already?
It's possible!

Can we buy Harvested dryer bamboo from you all or know where I Can. . Would like to make some Bamboo flutes
Are there any cold-hardy timber type bamboos?? I live in Michigan and would love to grow some bamboo when I have space
Thankyou for all your good videos;did you ofert tour of your place??
Just virtual tours.
Love ❤️ Bamboo do you sell and ship any? Love your Knowledge and learning a lot from your videos! Thank You for all you posted.
Do you sell varieties that would do well as a commercial timber/edible shoot variety for North GA? I keep hearing about Moso bamboo.
Don’t buy the snake oil! That moso is a scam. Not many edible clumping varieties . Maybe Seabreeze that far north
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL I hear the company behind called Only Moso isn't good to partner with. I want to grow and produce bamboo completely free of any proprietary type companies behind it. The Seabreeze variety, how big/tall does it get?
What clumping bamboo can grow tight enough to keep deer herds out of the garden / orchard / vineyard ?
Definitely graceful or sea Breeze
What bamboo does good in north Florida Jacksonville area?
Loquat festival this year?
Not likely. It’s quite sad...
Why is bamboo so comfy?
Good night Pete what's growing on
I would also like to grow big cane clumping bamboos, but its seems none of them are winterhardy to around 0-5 °F
Not likely clumping. They don’t grow well north of florida.

Very cool! Sometimes NC

is it safe to plant clumbing bamboo next to driveway of my house?
Should be, maybe use some edging

Yes, we try to keep a wide range of fruit trees in stock. It’s been quite the struggle the last 6 months with Covid. I’m just over an hour from Lakeland.
I always thought Florida is tropical 😅 Didnt know it also freezes there
hallo it's very ni6
At 15:53, what species was that bamboo? Is that eminensis yin yang?
I would love to get bamboo. What would you recommend for zone 9b Arizona?
I’m in 9b 😬
Any timber bamboos? Guadua ?
Old hams can be used for timber. So can the Asper

I think they will come back! We have had many clumps get smoked and come back no problem. Just be sure to keep watering.
Where ru located?? How much for your Alphonse Karr plants??
We’re in north Pasco. That variety is $45 for a 3 gallon. They’ve probably 5-6 foot with 6-9 canes.
Whats a good bamboo variety to grow in New Jersey (outside) and in a pot for indoors?
Probably only running varieties available for your area.

how many feet in diameter does dendrocalamus asper grow from its mother plant?
12-15 ft maximum foot print
I lost all of my Karr clumps a few years ago when they all went to seed... took the seeds and they didn’t produce the same color shoots!
That’s crazy! I was told when they flower they flour all over the world at the same time. Ours is fine and doing well. That is weird
If anyone knows where to find the drepanostachyum khasianum bamboo variety please let me know.
Can you grow bamboo in a container?
It would need a larger container yearly and lots of water.
Hey man, are you by any chance related to Constantine Kanaris the admiral who brought havoc to the Ottoman navy back in the 1800s?
Where is this place?
What's the spread on black bamboo?
Maybe 8-10ft
