  • Fargesia bamboo are hardy non-invasive clump-forming bamboos with a more dainty appearance to their Phyllostachys cousins such as Phyllostachys nigra (Black Bamboo) and Phyllostachys aurea (Golden Bamboo). Fargesia mostly have smaller leaves and thinner stems and an upright frothy habit. Fargesia bamboo plants can grow from 1.5 metres like Fargesia rufa or to over 4 metres high such as Fargesia scabrida of Fargesia nitida cultivars and make excellent privacy screening and hedging plants that are extremely cold tolerant. Clumping fargesia bamboos naturally occur in woodland areas at high altitudes throughout Asia and consequently make excellent shade tolerant plants. They are however very adaptable and can also be planted in open sunny positions and are the most suitable bamboo for container cultivation.

    He saved the best for last "robusta". I just planted two in containers outside my home office window so I don't have to look at the neighbor's rv while I am working. I am using 2 galvanized steele horse troughs 2'x4'x2' (.6x1.2x.6 meters). I painted the outside & sealed the inside.

    Info is good and so is photography, but OMG music is definitely bothersome. Gardens are supposed to be calming and apart from intrusive civilization. Thank you for your excellent explanations.

    Great info, the music is fine. I pay attention to the great information and don't worry about the music. We all have different tastes and its not a big deal to ignore it. People are so finicky. Im just thankful someone is nice enough to post their incredible knowledge .No way I'd complain. It's not worth the risk to run off a very informative content creator just because the music isn't your style. I can't stand hip hop or r& b but I'd not have any content to listen too if i let that bother me. Be happy, be thankful. If you don't have anything good to say it's usually best not to say it.😁
    People that are serious about wanting the knowledge of bamboo won't complain.

    I really appreciate having found this video! I need the beautiful Fargesia robusta in my life and in my backyard as a screen from my neighbors above ground pool & deck. Can this particular bamboo stay potted? I thought they'd be nice inside large rectangular planters that I can neatly place along my fenceline. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ??

      I think they grow in the pots, I have seen them on the street in New Zealand where I live.

    Wow! I live in NY in Staten Island and although I like my neighbors I really need a privacy screen and your video answered a big question for me: can I grow the rufa in a pot? You answered my question. My next question is: do you deliver to Staten Island, NY? My closest nursery sucks 😞

    I am about to remove 6 Leyland Cypress, I know because of roots it would be difficult to grow anything, but if I build a raised bed with no base, would that be ok to grow bamboo in? I will be using the bamboo as a screen, 3 metres high.

    Hi, I will lay concrete on side of home in back yard but not all the way to street fence..I will have about 4 and a half feet of dirt between concrete slab and fence facing street. I live in the city of clovis ca in a corner lot house...I wanna know if planting bamboo for privacy will be good in my case? I want something that does not grow too big and also something easy to maintain. Been looking at evergreens too..to be honest don't know what to plant there?
    Another option was to lay concrete all tje way to fence and put trees, plants or whatever on pots for privacy..is it better to grow them in pots or in the ground?

    • @MaryPoppins-tu1ms
      @MaryPoppins-tu1ms 3 роки тому

      Better im the ground, but they can grow in the pots as well.

    😔 Oh well, never mind my previous question. It appears that the beautiful Fargesia robusta's hardy zone is 7-9, I live in growing zone 5b. I'd appreciate an alternative suggestion (I just really LOVE the look of the tall thick cane and beautiful large leaves!)

    • @truecrimejungle
      @truecrimejungle 3 роки тому +2

      it's 5-9
      Fargesia dracocephala Rufa (Clumping Bamboo)
      Zone Zone 5
      Exposure Full Sun to Partial Shade
      Moisture Low to Moderate Moisture
      Cold Hardy

      The robusta and the Jiu are probably the most rapid growers of all bamboo, at least in terms of reaching their mature height. Under optimum conditions these can go from sprout to maximum size in 3 years. Even in less optimum conditions it'll probably get there in less than 5 years. This is astonishing speed in the "plant world"

    Mine is in the ground since April 2019 in Tampa Florida, why is it taking so long to grow? It was yellow and green mixed in, its 20 ft tall, how long will it take to grow thicker?

      Bamboo are evergreen. You may see some leaf drop in the fall, but part of the appeal is having something green year-round.
