I’ve had 6 years of experience in tap and I’ve done my grades and I seriously recommend this to anyone starting out. This shows al the basics perfectly. I wish I had this video starting out. For anyone reading this thinking it’s easy. Trust me it’s going to take a lot of work and commitment to learn tap but it’s all worth it.
I love your comment about Al Gilbert! I grew up learning tap with his music, decided to put on my old tap shoes and practice with your video and that made me chuckle
Kimberly Roberts I think that's wonderful! I too have just started tap dancing at the age of 46 I have wanted to learn to tap dance for as long as I can remember! How has your tap dancing journey been thus far?
I've been doing ballet, contemporary, modern, character, and jazz for 16 years and I remember doing tap as a little kid. I loved this! I've been wanting to get back into tap for a while. (I absolutely LOVE Sutton Foster!) Please please more tap!!
Oh man- I haven't danced since I was in middle school (in college now). Got incredibly bored during lockdown and ordered tap shoes, started dancing again. It's been insanely fun! Thanks for the friendly, easy-to-follow instructions :)
Thank you so much for not calling a brush back a "spank." That is one of my biggest pet peeves in tap. As a tapper for over 30 years, calling something a spank on the dance floor just sets my teeth on edge lol I really like how you break everything down and change angles. I recently started teaching tap again and I do the same thing with my dancers and it really makes a difference. I will say though that tap isn't all into the floor. Street-style and modern tap is into the floor but that's style, not form.
I’m trying to learn tap post brain injuries (2 severe concussions, 1 regular concussion), a stroke, and a few mini strokes or “TIAs.” I also get hemiplegic migraines which act like a stroke and continuously weaken whatever side it’s affecting (typically my left side). It’s amazing to see the difference between the sides, and trying to coordinate which is very difficult! I just started taking tap as a way to form new neuro pathways and synopsis in my brain, and use this class in between. Each time is like the first time, but I’m hoping it kicks in soon! I’m only 40, and I know that years ago I would have picked this up easily, like I did country line dancing. Interestingly, aside from some weakness and balance issues, I haven’t had many issues with yoga, which I’ve been doing for 21 years. The brain is so intriguing! Thank you so much for posting this, it’s a huge help to me 🙂
Jessica St. Jean this is fascinating! I love how you’re using dance to repattern your brain! A dear friend of mine does ballet for this exact reason and it’s always interesting to hear her routines and how she changed things up. Thank you for sharing!
@@Ballet24 You're very welcome! I sent the video to my friend who teaches the tap class, and she watched it and said that I couldn't have picked a better video! I did watch others, but found yours to be the best. I'm finally starting to do a few combinations, and seeing the coordination improve! Thank you so very much! I really can't tell you how much this means to me. That I can go on you tube and find your videos to help me. Of course it isn't a complete replacement for taking a class, but it's a wonderful supplement in between! Please wish your friend well for me. Maybe ballet will be in my future next :)
Hi there! My daughter and I have really enjoyed your tap videos. Have you made that 6-8 week course? If not, we hope you do make more tap videos, there aren't enough clean and straight forward ones like yours. Thanks :)
I didn't know you were a tapper too!! Thank you for this video. We just learned drawbacks in my tap class, so I am totally in love with this video. I can practice my technique now with this easy to follow video. Thanks.
I've always loved tap and wanted to learn since I was young. Now I'm 75 and although these lessons are superb my balance is wobbly and I have to work hard not to fall over :D
Love the videos, and I have a correction. On Buffaloes and Maxie Fords, you say hop. A hop starts on one foot and ends on the same food. Leaps & steps start on one foot and end on the other. The feet should be leap or step, shuffle, leap/step for Buffaloes & leap or step, shuffle, leap/step,toe dig in the back
Fantastic. I really enjoy watching your video and yeah it looks easy but it needs a lot of practice and commitment. Thanks for your time and efford. Great...
OMG thank you so so much, this has helped. I just joined a beginner class and everyone has already been dancing for 6mths and I was soooooo lost. This has broken the steps down so well.
Wow this was the only good tap beginners video I could find on UA-cam. I found it easy to understand and I flew through the whole video easily except for the running shuffles at the end 😅 they were so hard have to work on them
Hi Melody, I really appreciate your teaching style and I would love to subscribe to regular tap classes of yours. Are you planning on developing a tap series at all? Ty in advance!
You have inspired me to show how much i love tap dancing so ive atarte my own youtube channel its called tapdancing katfussion I wish i could meet you it would be so fun
Good for you! I'll check it out. Make sure to leave your videos unlisted until your parent or guardian look over them before you post! Sharing is amazing but you definitely open yourself up to both positive and negative people. I know I sound like a paranoid mom...because I am one! lol!
The full class has music! If I find some copyright free tap music, the next time I film a tap class I will! :) Here is the playlist from the full class: open.spotify.com/user/melody2484/playlist/7nTMfDOGCXbOjSI1JcVQsq
That makes me so happy!!! I need to do another one I have just been so busy teaching a million ballet classes. I'm going to focus and get one done before the end of January! Now that it's out here I will stick to it! ❤️❤️❤️

Just noticed your tap video, so excited. My tap shoes are waiting in the closet.

Yvette Jones 🤣🤣🤣LOL about the spank!
what do you call them? Just curious. Back brush is one too many syllables to fit in a phrase for a single sound.
Not kidding tried every video on UA-cam, yours was the only one that made perfect sense and helped for what I’m doing in class

Arts by Sharamay Ritter I love Bloch’s Jason Samuel Smith shoes. They are heavy-ish but they are really good quality and they last a long time.

Um is that really your right and left foot??
🖤🖤🖤
Hi
Hello!
Or is it just by your perspective
Really helpful
But lyrics are covering the feet :-(
you keep saying use the right leg first but you always start with left
she's mirroring you. YOU start with the right leg. 😀
☀️⭐️💛
A Cincinnati
Brush- heel- shuffle- heel- stamp moving backwards. Drawbacks with a shuffle in the middle. I can't remember if I did that in this class or not. ❤
so funny watching u confused ur left with your right leg lol
like any dance teacher, she is mirroring you. She knows she's picking up her left but you, watching, would pick up your right.
