This is truly impressive. I took a class back in the late 80's where we learned how to build a calculator. Now you can do it in virtual reality. I'd imagine engineers should be using the tools to teach. Circuitry is different, but concept is same.
Steve Svensson They should definitely use this to teach. Especially when most teenagers and college freshmen are already familiar with minecraft.
no lol, there are other tools to teach that are more efficient
@@geordirendum583 That doesn’t mean minecraft can’t be one of them. I know for a fact that when I was 7 years old i would have been much more on board with just playing minecraft (while being secretly taught logic) rather than some program that isn’t a game.

This is the most impressive demonstration of Redstone computing I have seen. No other video proves turing completeness like this one with its several problems solved right before our eyes.
Imagine how fast this could be if repeaters didn't have to have delay.
Nah, wouldn’t work without delays, they have a lot of importance in that circuit to not mix signals I think.
@@ROVERLORDD_ Not exactly. Circuits in real life run on a clock signal so that calculations can only happen when the clock switches. In laymen’s terms, won’t break the circuit.
@@ceddyd Wow, that's cool !
Although I was talking about the Minecraft version where there are usually specific places where a delay is essential, and others where delays are due to the "electrical resistance" of redstone matter (this means you need a repeater which adds unnecessary delay...).
@@ceddyd now that I think of it, it could be interesting to disassemble a calculator to understand where signals go to activate what and how…
@@ROVERLORDD_ I wish repeaters would have 0 delay but you could still right click them to give them delavy
Aw man this brings back memories, this used to be the top of Redstone engineering, back when no observers or comparators existed. It looks so simple now but damn if I haven't spent hundreds of hours trying to understand it almost a decade back in elementary lol

@Cloud Strife how do u make a working calculator smarter and ahem capable?
how do i play on the world?
i dont even know how that is humanly possible ...... incredible work dude !
Asmit Ray thank you :)
Actually..it is possible ..that's how our phones work
But then actually making it in Minecraft makes it a little more complicated..but basically the contraption would be smaller if each circuit such as the BCD Converter and the Bit Adder, Subtraction, Multiplier, Division.
Put em into a block and the thing is just the Display of numbers that is the big contraption
But anyways..This takes a lot of time and reasearch..
@@mNandhu7 the display only needs binary -> number and each number (0-9) is coded according to which piston should be pushed, it's the easiest part, subtraction and division are horrible
My man is doing the Industrial revolution in Minecraft
The hardest parts of making a calculator using redstone is knowing how a calculator actually works, and how you could possibly make all the circuits without causing problems. I don't know either of those things. Great job!
The hardest part is the patience
OH MY GOD.... how did you even make that- you know you should be really awarded a Minecraft Award for the best redstone creation. Speechless.
While watching video i went trough couple stages:
1: A yea some people might be impressed by it's probably simple logic gates, i've done something like that in log ism... but without decimal display, so that's nice, and amount of work is astonishing.
2: Wow it can multiply, perhaps i underestimated you.
3 OMG IT DOSE DIVIDING FIXED POINT !
Exactly the same thing happened to me lmao.
woah man thats crazy!! really nice vid and editing, keep up the great work ;))

lookup Bluestone redstone computer
It is a bunch of 1s, 0s and logic gates. Learning the how this works is not that hard but the sheer scale of this one is quite incredible. I cant even make a calculator above 4 bits and this made this
Ikr??
It's not that hard it just takes a lot of work
You don't actually need to understand redstone like making a 5x5 door. As long as you understand how computer use logic gates to do math, you can make your own computer (with enough dedication). Although you may get stuck a lot.
If you want to learn more about computer, I recommended checking Sebastian Lague channel, he has 2 videos about "Exploring how computers work" and "How do computers remember?". Also I recommended checking Melneusc channel, he has a full series how to make computer and Tom Scott video about "The Fetch-Execute Cycle: What's Your Computer Actually Doing?".
But still, I agreed this man is incredible. The display and user interface is insane, and the computer is really fast, and it can do division.

Imagine if a student use computer and play minecraft in math class but theres a world named "calculator"
Thank you so much for spiring me!
after I learn basic binary in youtube.
I finally did binary algorithm in minecraft and translate binary to numbers, numbers to binary.
So, it doesn't hard really, I know your feeling now how amazing it is when we can imitate logic gate in cpu into minecraft form.
Look Mattbatwings u got a "Serious dedication" advancement in the redstone tab! Lol Seriously the best and the most useful redstone contraption I have ever seen!

This is awesome! I can't believe this video doesn't have more views.
The fact that you can switch so easily between multiplications and divisions is impressive. Great work
and im wondering how they even make theese things in real life.
Really it's a pretty similar concept just on a much, much, much smaller scale. Just A LOT of logical circuits combined to perform math functions
As a computer science student and a person who knows how small a bit could be really know how insane this thing actually was😮😮😅😅😅
Christ dude you really have too much time on your hands
Yet still he's putting it in a good use. Man... Could you build anything like this yourself? Mechanical, electronic, or minecraft-based?
But even then its not easy bro
Teacher: calculators not allowed in exams.
Kid at the back:see my redstone calculator.
Bit Calculation works with "And" "or" "Xor" etc ( i dont remember others xd)
By using 1 or 0 Bits the 1 or 0 is like redstone On and off
actually. making 8bit Game in minecraft is possible i think(but needs more advanced repeater and redstone torches that can adjust delay with MS)
Plus the display can only have on/off, not different colors
Matthew Wilcox that’s not a problem Pac-Man for example was run in a 8bit and wouldn’t really need color so u don’t need color for games
Yeah I have experience with building Minecraft computers and really the only bottleneck is the need for repeaters on long busses and redstone torches within logic gates which accumulates to clock speeds of around 5 seconds in any decent redstone CPU. I would say that for even snake, you would need to reach a clock speed of at most 0.1 seconds which would equate to a repeater and torch delay of 0.002 seconds and when you get to that point it's more of a question of whether your actual computer can run Minecraft at that speed. I would still say it's possible tho with some kind of tick-warp mod and a decent PC.
isn't that what the the dude who recoded pokemon red did ?
@@yvan1401 idk but he didnt atleast
he used blocks to calculate things
Mom: Why are you playing minecraft?
Me: Im doing my math homework
I can't believe that 🔥😵😵

Sasta youtuber spotted
This is actually a smart machine. The way all the numbers constantly change before it gets its final answer... wow. Not only that, but the multiplying and dividing is literally, and I mean *literally* faster than students doing it on paper.
I really like that comparison to paper because thats about the only comparison that makes it sound remotely fast, haha.
Got here when i see ''so..I made Minecraft in Minecraft."
@Louis Bridges-Galvez idk yes maybe
Looks like some kind of futuristic city, it's beautiful ngl
how, simply how. I cant imagine how one can do this
a calculator is actually not that hard to build once you understand the mechanics of it
the logic behind a calculator is actually very simple, but it requires space and some complex circuits to do the simple parts
for example, the logic gates. a logic gate just takes 2 or more inputs that are true/false and then outputs a true/false based on the inputs. take the AND gate: if both inputs are true, then it outputs true. if only one or both are false, it outputs false. then you string these together and you get a calculation
"mooooom, you need to buy me a minecraft so I can study math"
Amazing!!!
I can really appreciate your work You
are a genius
Imagine in the future a PC that is powerful enough to run Minecraft on a powerful enough PC built in Minecraft.😮🤯
Everybody: Redstone is simple!
Me: So make THIS.
Wow, I expected the first three operations to calculate a lot slower, like with how division.
I don't quite understand how the lights change that quickly with lines of Redstone that long, is instant wire used in this calculator?
Frostyflytrap no instant wire. The displays have decoders for converting from a redstone signal (0 - 9) into the display of the number
How you did it with redstone and your mind is amazing tbh
Now we can give excuses to our parents that we are doing homework in Minecraft 🤣🤣

Red stone is actually really realistic
It basically is just binary. But then translating even sometimes simple algorithms into a minecraft redstone contraption can be quite tricky because you are so limited with what you have in game and it is difficult not to run into other redstone wires. Also it is annoying to find out where you need to fix something if the contraption is not working properly
This is so underrated. GRST WORK!
