We were very, very stoked when he agreed to do it. Aside from being the ultimate DL4 player, he's also one of the nicest people around. You should definitely check out his upcoming solo record too. It's great! platoon.lnk.to/the-only-thing-you-have-to-change-is-everything
All credit to whoever got him for this demo. As soon as I saw they made a MKII that's the only demo I wanted to see. Side note he has a new single out that's fantastic
Maaan I listened to them so0o much back in '08, and then a decade later in summer '18 I finally went to their show by myself and was absolutely engulfed by the nostalgia... I pulled out my phone, but only recorded about 10 seconds before I realized I was wasting a truly precious moment, and put it right back in my pocket. Fantastic video! (Although I think I'm just gonna stick with my little MXR Carbon Copy for now, lol)
@@icecreamforcrowhurst A lot of people in their 20s & 30s have been inspired by the math rock playing in his band Minus the Bear. His earlier band Botch was hugely influential as well for metalcore. Even today guitarists are strongly influenced by his approach in that band from the 90s.
Im Totally Not Down with Rob's Alien has always been one of my fav MtB songs! So glad it made an appearance on here. The triplet part at the end is siiiiiooock!
This sounds absolutely heavenly! You couldn't have picked a better person to show off this pedal. 😄 Great job, Line 6. 👍 Hope I get to demo one of these at some point.
Love Minus The Bear so damn much!!! Please just have them all demo different things for you in your videos, and I’ll be your best friend forever!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Dave is the unspoken master of this pedal. Seeing him play the DL4 live over the years was one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen or heard. To me it was like being a teenager in the 60's seeing Hendrix use a wah pedal for the first time, I've never heard a guitarist evoke these sounds but him, in conjunction with his unique playing style and riffs of course. As a guitarist I value these real-world reviews with icons who used the gear
Thanks for identifying! Just saved me hours of searching. You know how it is when you see a guitar you don’t know. Can’t go to bed until you figure our what it is.
this is the video that got me to check out MTB. seeing him play Knights blew me away. these are the type of musicians who really inspire me to get experimental
The only person on Earth fully qualified to demonstrate this product. Love it. That later loop starting around 9m45s is super reminiscent of Gay Sons of Lesbian Mothers by Kaki King
I am here for any new music this man plays guitar on. I love the sound he is able to achieve with this pedal, and I’m excited to hear they have a new model coming out! Thank you David, Line 6, and Reverb!
Our band did a cover set of Minus the Bear on New Years Eve like 4 years ago and I had the super fun task of figuring out and learning all of Dave's parts. It was fun as fuck! I had to have 2 DL 4's and two loopers in my chain and it was soooo fun. Such a clutch move with the SD card so you can save your loops on the DL4 instead of having to save them on a looper down the line in your chain.
Finally someone has added an XLR input. My previous choices were a Boss RC that only had a 1/4 mic input or the Jamman I found used that crapped out. I was excited just to see a new DL4, the XLR input has me scrambling to sell old pedals so i can get it
One of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed was MTB in concert and the band stopped playing, just to allow the loop pedals to continuing playing without them. As someone who has messed with loopers for a long time, this is not easy for timing purposes alone
The smartest thing they did with this was make sure there was a mode that works exactly like the old one. They knew better than to mess with what's given the original its longevity long after the other 4-switchers were discontinued. (Although I'd kill for a MM4 MKII.)
We really need to hear three or four giggable patches put together by working guitarists so that we have an idea what sounds we could have, as it is, there will be well enough dopey noises should we get editing tho I think that the Strymon Volante makes a lot more appeal given what I have heard here.
What is DK's signal chain? Is it bottom right DL4 MkII into the bottom left DL4 MkII then into the old DL4 at the top right? Are the 3 distortion pedals at the beginning?
Props for getting the ultimate DL4 player to demo this
Seriously tho. This is THE og.

Hahaha seriously I kinda just assumed he invented it with how well he plays them.
Not sure why they didn't rename it the DK4.
I unfortunately have to agree, but Nick Reinhart is absolutely #2
All credit to whoever got him for this demo. As soon as I saw they made a MKII that's the only demo I wanted to see.
Side note he has a new single out that's fantastic
aha my first thought was "how will dave knudson react to mkii?"
Love that he mentioned Botch in there too. Such an influential band.
love Botch, what a band
I like that he put a little gravel on it too to emphasize the gnarliness. “…and BOTCH”
American Nervoso and We are the Romans are absolute masterpieces
There is no better guitarist to reveal this pedal with. This is the best!
Couldn't agree more.
Yes!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ian Williams mb?
@@THARTHURs.THOUNDS Nick Reinhardt also
I never heard about David Knudson but I agree is indeed perfect for this kind of demo though
Perhaps as great, Ed O'Brien comes into mind
Such a unique, original player. Now I’m gonna spend the next week diving back into my Minus the Bear catalog.
i plan on doing the same. very inspiring
Davids usage of the DL4 just blows my mind every time I see him play. Such an inspiration to so many!
This is the Shania Twain of pedals. No matter how old it gets always gorgeous. Mkii? Let’s go girls.
😂
Top Tier Shania comparison

I think he had actually had 4 of them on his pedal board. True story!

What an incredible demo, this is the only person that matters when demoing this pedal. Awesome job!
There’s this guy called Bill Frisell, you should check him out.
Objectively wrong. Nick Reinhardt would also be worth a demo
Ed Obrien....
Simen Følstad Nilsen > this guy.

This man is an icon. Got to stand right in front of him twice having my mind blown with his pedal work and creativity.
Well this gives an answer to the rumors that have been swirling around the last couple of months of a MKII. Sounds great!
Playing a Millimetric?! Awesome man. Love mine!
Dave is one of my guitar heroes. What a skilled man!
The minute I saw this pedal I thought of Dave. Amazing to see him demo it!

One of the most underrated guitarists of the last 25 years.
That Millimetric guitar looks and sounds sick!

This is the only DL-4 MKII demo that matters
Dave is the King of the DL4! this rules!!!
Dave is such a legend!
Love Bosch and Minus the bear!!! This new riff reminds me of a group called the mercury program. Into it!!

the only way to make this video better would be to have Reggie Watts accompanying him...
I’ve been waiting years for this 🥺
Same!
Wise marketing move to get David to demo it, swaying everyone to pick up at least two of them
The perfect guitar pedal demo doesn’t exi……………
My god I get goosebumps when I hear him play, I can’t tell you how much this guy inspired me to play
The only person who knows more about what the DL4 can do than it's own creators.
has a band's sound ever been more inextricably linked to a single piece of gear as Minus The Bear's was to the DL4? No. No I don't think so.
Arguably Muse and the Fuzz Factory, but I'd say MTB is much more creative with their pedal use. That's probably a massive understatement tbh
Also Cave In and the boss pitch shifting delay ;)
Battles, baby!
@@dominikignacik9736 I've got a Cave In tattoo and not even I think that's anywhere near this.
Obvious answer (and daddy to this one) is The Edge and the SDD-3000

I’m on board with a Twin Reverb pointed at my face in a bedroom studio.
Hahahahaha this cracked me up!
Thats how I roll. Can confirm. Its heaven
I roll vox ac15w Roland 40 Jazz in my beroom
Knights brings me back to touring with MTB and KICKING myself for not taking more notes. Great to see Dave again being so incredible.
Awesome demo. It'll be fun to see what Ed O'Brien does with this new model as well.
The one guy that made me get a DL4.
This guy is like the modern version of Robert Fripp.
Also, I love that playthrough of “knights”.
This video made my heart happy
That man is incredibly talented
Oh and the new pedal set up is stunning

Love hearing Rob's Alien at the beginning there.
FM4 next with Justin Pearson demoing it.

So, new DL4 means MTB reunion and like 6 more albums right?

genuinely when this was announced i thought it was a meme or something idk. but i’m sooo happy this is real
As soon as I saw the DL4 MKII I hoped for somebody to make Dave demo it.
Who better than him can do this pedal justice?
This is what wanted to see, The Master
If they're playing the nostalgia angle and making a new bean shaped POD, I'm all in...
I'm excited to hear the patch named after my friend who worked on the pedal, lol... the Adriatic.
3:25 so good. Is that from an MtB song? I always was a bigger fan of Botch and didnt know MtBs catalog as well
I’m trying to use the MK2 tap tempo without the time stretch effect whenever I’m changing the tempo. Like it was in the old DL4. Please help!
Oh my god, Dave has a Millimetric!
A popular mod on the old one is to add a switch to activate the looper without turning the rotary switch. Guess they missed that.
I stand corrected. They have an option for an external foot switch to activate the looper
Dave piddle-puds on his guitar for two seconds and it sounds like a masterpiece.
hope that Thomas Erak and Nick Reinhart will demo this one too
....kind of a rough edit around 9:18 lol. like a loop you aren't quite cutting at the right timing.
Good job getting the master
I was just about the old dl4 but I'm gonna definitely get this instead!
