Before Minus the Bear headed out on their farewell tour, Cory Murchy, Dave Knudson, and Jake Snider opened their SIR rehearsal sessions to PG’s Perry Bean so we could get one last look at their powerfully inventive setups.
This is the PRS that started it all-cofounding guitarist Dave Knudson picked up this goldtop McCarty model at Al’s Guitarville in Edmonds, WA, right when Minus the Bear was taking off. He really enjoys it with low action for his tapping parts and he also takes advantage of the coil tapping for more “noisy grit.” And what started Knudson’s desire branching out into tapping? “Just trying to figure out ways to create cool riffs without playing a normal A chord.”
Jake Snider used to travel with a few other guitars including a ’90s Japanese-built Gretsch Roundup with Filter'Trons, but now he’s all Ibanez, all night. His no. 1 is this Ibanez Talman with a striking resemblance of an Esquire with its single-pickup platform.

The Pachuca Sunrise intro has to be one of the coolest riffs of all-time. Period.

I was just thinking, when Perry started doing these he annoyed me honestly, and now I actually got a good chuckle out of him glancing at Dave's pedalboard and going "...thing looks like it's self aware". He's relaxed a lot for sure

I highly recommend everyone check out the album “Cola” by A Beacon School. Released June 2019 (so recently from this comment). It’s like a next generation Minus The Bear.
I saw this recommendation months ago and just had to come back and thank you. A Beacon School has had a signficiant impact on my playlists since I saw this. Fantastic recommendation, thank you!
Boy that bass amp sounds nice
It’s actually true that keeping volume up on both the P and J pickup does cause a midscoop. Dialing back one of the pickups at least slightly will bring those mids back. This helps with cutting through. It can make you sound louder. I do this with a Fender PJ and I don’t have a basement haha.

Pretty good trick - putting the bass in the first segment so that we have jump over it instead of leaving the last 10 minutes of your videos unwatched. Well played. :-)

Fender Aerodynes are the best. I've never had a bass I enjoyed playing more. I only use the P pickup though. The J is way too noisy.

Just got a Line 6 DL4 today off Reverb cuz I was inspired by these guys until the pedal stopped working the same day I got it smh I’m pissed
Had the same thing happen to me. They're notorious for having all kinds of issues.
Funny thing is the day after it stopped working I saw a video where a guy just cleans the chip inside and I did the same and now it works!
Possibly the most poorly constructed pedal ever made. I saw a photo on this bands instagram of a whole crate of new dl4s that line6 had sent as replacements haha

And it’s a wonderful thing. We’ve heard cliche blues licks from a guitar straight into an amp a million times. It’s good to have people pushing things forward with effects and technology. Let’s not forget that the likes of Jimi Hendrix were using the most current technology available to them at the time and would’ve embraced this kind of stuff 100%
