    For ports that have two rows of teeth I think you adding low melt creates larger risk of tearing pads on the inner row. Everything else you tinned with low melt will melt and you'll start lifting the port before the inner pads have melted cuz you can't tin them. Just add low melt to the front grounding legs so you can focus heat on the two rows of pads and the front pins will stay melted.

    Hello!
    Recently bought a Nintendo switch off hand.
    They said that the dock mode was working and stopped at one point.
    I noticed a bummer of the leftmost pin (switch screen down).
    According to the specification, this is pin GND.
    The switch itself is completely working and the light is on in the dock (the dock is working, checked on another switch).
    The TV also sees the Nintendo switch (as a source via HDMI), but there is no picture.
    Is it possible that because of him there is no picture on the TV?
    If there are mistakes, then I'm sorry (I don't know English very well).
    Thank you in advance.

    I have a broken switch that I want to repair, but I've never done micro-soldering like this. I'm scared I'll screw up a connection or have a cold solder. The switch is already bricked and out of warranty, so I'm not sure where to take it if I don't do it myself.

    Is there a usbc chip? I have been given a Nintendo switch and the guy said the usbc pins were damaged, but looking at the port and looking at the board everything looks fine. Ive looked all across the board and the pins on every component looks good as new.

    Nice demostration of fine soldering skills. Charging port problems require least troubleshooting but it's always a joy to watch when they are fixed by an expert like you. I have noticed that you used two types of flux in this video. At one point the flux was rather cloudy. Does that flux really annoying to work with as some suggested?

    • @NorthridgeFix
      @NorthridgeFix  4 роки тому +4

      I have 2 syringes, the 213 and 559. I use which ever i get my hands on. Usually i use the clear 559. The cloudy 213 cleans easier. Both flux types are good. We stopped carrying 213 because they are out of stock from the vendor and users seem to prefer the clear 559 over the 213

    1:06 To each their own, but for the past 23 years, I mostly used Kimwipes or even cheap dry facial tissue paper to quickly clean my tips. Still to this day, I almost never have to use damp sponges, brass wool, or even harsh tip cleaning pastes. From traditional Eutectic 63/37 to SAC 305, my soldering has worked as expected. Only on rare occasions did I have to use anything harsh to clean my tips, and my tips have lasted anywhere from 2 to 3 years.
    This may or may not work for everyone, but it couldn't hurt to try on some sort of practice soldering board.

    On these switch boards next time try heating from the bottom, I've had very good success this way.

    • @NorthridgeFix
      @NorthridgeFix  4 роки тому +9

      I do not recommand heating from the bottom method. You bombard the board with heat possibly creating other issues. It's faster from the top specially when we have low melt on the legs.

    Great job! Does the jumperwire work for the USB 3.1 RX1- Superspeed data transfer?

    • @crazyphil7782
      @crazyphil7782 4 роки тому

      That’s actually a very difficult question.
      Any wire you add like that is series inductor (resistor too but dc doesn’t matter here). It might affect its function as it is very high frequency. It might be negligible, but it’s not certain. You must check loads of datasheets and technical documents/test reports to know the answer. Or try it yourself in practice for a quicker result.

Can i grab that capacitor.from another board? If so how do i know if its cross compatible

    • @luisibalaz
      @luisibalaz 3 роки тому

      Maybe a bit late, but do you mean the little thing marked with a V in this video? If that's the case, and if I remember correctly, that's a fuse, so a 0 ohm resistor will work, or just a jumper wire
      But just to be sure, do a little more research haha

    • @tommyjohnson7506
      @tommyjohnson7506 3 роки тому

      I ended up just bridging where the fuse was missing and it worked perfect

    • @luisibalaz
      @luisibalaz 3 роки тому

      @@tommyjohnson7506 yeah, that works, but the fuse is there for a reason, you don't want nasty things to happen to your board, without the fuse it might pass for a test, but for daily use you should really get a fuse right there

    • @mobius1qwe

      Use lower heat output on the air blower. It'll take longer to melt the solder but will heat parts more evenly reducing the odds of melting the plastic.
