What’s the point of playing a game if not to have fun?! I’m 3/4 way playing my very first run through (and first experience with RPGs/D&D - on Explorer) and am having a blast thanks to all your insightful videos. Really helping with mechanics I was struggling to understand. Can’t wait to build my way up to higher difficulties in future play throughs. I essentially followed the same order as you (starting out on explorer and only sometimes on balanced) it takes awhile to understand mechanics and positioning :) I'm up to tactician/honor runs now so I bet you'll get it, if you're enjoying yourself!
It's funny without playing honor mode, I never bothered using the ring of shapeshifting because you can just freely use your inspiration dice whenever and save scum if a string of conversations doesn't go your way. But after finally doing honor mode runs, I kill that stupid ox right after I free laezel and grab Gale just to grab the ring and transform into drow to freely walk thru the goblins. The extra 1d4 on every conversation and every sleight of hand check is absolutely invaluable. My Tav pretty much just keeps ring of shapeshifting equipped until acquiring Risky Ring in act 2.
You don't even need to kill the Ox to get the ring. You get your party far away from the Ox. Then send a mage hand or other cheap summon to attack the Ox. Let the Ox slay the summon or dismiss it. Then have the caster who summoned the attacker talk to the Ox. The narrator tells you they aren't happy with your characters, but you might be able to barter with them. Get the Shapeshifter’s boon ring from his trade menu and get him to whatever approval level you want. Then the Ox is free to trade with you in Acts 2 and 3.
@@ryudragon7 I already know that trick, but unless you care about the fire acuity hat or having the ox join you in the final battle, it's pointless to go thru all those hoops.
It's funny because 3 of these classes my party is currently utilizing right now. I'm the nature cleric, and 2 buddies are the lore bard and beastmaster ranger
Sadly modern youtube is extremely hostile to let's plays. Because there's naturally some viewer attrition from episode to episode, youtube's algorithm sees your views decreasing from video to video and concludes that your content is getting worse or less relevant. Once your channel gets flagged in that way, it's extremely damaging to your ability to get your videos recommended.
@@Cephalopocalypse oh that sucks. sounds like a separate channel would be better for a lets play then if you were interested. This has been my favorite of your build guides because I agree with your definition of 'FUN' while a lot of the other ones have been more min/max :)
While running a similar party to this, today I learned that the Freedom of Movement condition prevents Wild Magic's Cats and Dogs surge from polymorphing a character. If not for having that pre-cast on my heavily armoured Paladin, the Shadow Cursed Shambling Mound would've easily total party wiped us in Honour Mode. Got so lucky! 😹
Birthright hat also adds 2 to the possible max charisma so you can have 22 and even 24 charisma with the mirror, which is pretty nice, especially for Warlocks.
I highly recommend a single level dip into Fighter for the Lore Bard, and even the Nature Cleric. (Hell, even the WM Sorc.) Here you have done a one level dip into Life Cleric, so this can be an alternative, or it can be two 1 level dips. For the cost of just one level of Bard progression, you get: Medium Armor Profiency Heavy Armor Proficiency Shield Proficiency Constitution Saving Throw Proficiency Archery Fighting Style (then in late game can change to Defence). The Nature Cleric could take Dueling for +2 to all melee bonks or even Protection for another great Reaction. I find this makes Lore Bards so much better in the early game.
Its more tedious than fun before level 11 in my opinion. Very low hit chance on the beasts and mainly only good for a bit of distraction. I feel summons slow down the gameplay too much but that is just my preference
@@formatomi def isn't a class that's just 'plug and play', needs some support. I feel like my enjoyment of it goes up by a mile when i at least have ways to give the beasts advantage on attacks. having the bear just go around knocking people prone or disarming is so much fun. Otherwise yeah, if the beasts are just meat shields that barely land hits, it isn't as interesting
My playgroup and I accidentally made 3/4 of this party, replacing lore bard with an archfey warlock. Can confirm that it's an absolute blast to play out.
So for the next set of build videos can I recommend/request a duo party? Tav and (insert companion), Wyll and Karlach, Shadowheart and Lae'zel, that sort of thing. You'll have so many vids you can make. Origin character runs and Tav runs, each with each companion. Why? Cause solo is boring. But with 2 you can add some fun combos. Tav and Wyll both Warlocks anyone? Just a thought, but one I'd love to see!!
Durge/Astarion run? Astarion's got some hilarious dialogue when you play Durge, I love the idea of those two running around the Sword Coast getting into murderous shenanigans together.
@AzureDragon158 exactly. Also, Durge/Shadow, Durge/Gale, Durge/Karlach( oh boy it'll be fun trying to keep her around), and all the rest. Hell, you'll want a different Durge build based on the build of your bestie.
I'm almost at the end of my duo honour Karlach origin run (i made her the standard tavern brawler throwbarb spec), with Wyll as companion (he is a 5 great old one wlock/7 blue draconic sorc, with spell sniper and crit gear). Its definitely worth a try altho Wyll is the most underwritten companion in the game. Most bosses are dead in 1--2 turns, and if i ever get to the 2nd turn, Wyll can use darkness or a scroll of globe of invulnerability, i don't even have to do barrelmancy. Karlach is currently on 28 AC with camp buffs, so she can tank if ever needed, and Wyll is pumping out the reverb/orb stacks. Very strong combo.
@@ZoldZsolt i love the Wyll and Karlach story as they run together. Enemies to spoilers. It's awesome. I love the sorlock that is more than a 2/10 split.
Personally I love Swords Bard because of how much you can do on a given turn. I used Band of the Mystic Scoundrel(cast Illusion or Enchantment spell as a Bonus Action) and I was using Slashing Flourish Twice per turn while gaining Arcane Acuity from the Helm. So I had 8 Arcane Acuity if I hit all my shots and then could cast Hypnotise as a Bonus reliably. Super broken. I would’ve lost my Honor run to Shars followers at House of Grief without it.
Really enjoying your party builds. I would really like to see a party that would work well with "The PERFECT MAIN CHARACTER - BG3 Wyll / Bard / Warlock Honour Build Guide"
6 stacks of Fierce Perilous Stakes before hitting the brainstem and then just Artistry of War and Magic Missile everything down. Once clear put on some more stacks before the Brain. With full ilithid you can cast it two times per turn for free
Going to have to give this a shot. At first glance the party feels a bit weak, or at least out of my usual play style. Feels like I would learn a lot trying it out. My last HM run I finished was your all melee party and I had a blast with that.
I've beaten honour mode unmodded 7 times. My go-to is: Cleric, either light or life Either open hand monk/rogue or paladin Magic missile Evocation wizard or sorlock eldritch blaster My Tav is a Lore or Swords bard
@@meekrab9027 That's good info, I was thinking a separate video dedicated to seeing those builds in some of the big fights throughout the game, but it sounds like not many other people would want to watch. fair enough.
semi-unrelated but im starting my first honour mode run right now, using your; valiant defender, radiant brawler, eldritch archer and invincible tank wizard builds, hopefully they get me those golden dice xD
Can you do a honor mode party build video for full stealth? I’m looking at classes like shadow monk, trickery cleric, maybe warlock and ranger? Separating enemy forces and sneaking into advantageous positions as an entire group sounds interesting, especially in coop
Hi, just like to say fantastic channel and most of my builds come from you. Just one query about the Lore Bard, if you take Cleric at level 2 would all of your spells key off Wisdom?? Thanks.
Items, scrolls, cleric spells and illithid powers I think would all key off wisdom at that point, but any spells chosen while leveling up as a bard would be charisma based. The game bases items scrolls and (I’m pretty sure) illithid powers off the spell casting stat of your latest class that you multi classed into. The last class you took a level 1 in. This is why you’ll hear recommendations to take cleric at first level and then continue with bard, in this example. Spells chosen while leveling will always key off the class that provided the spell though.
I'd love a proper balance patch in bg3 and harder enemy ai to truly enjoy the game as it was meant to be played but I guess I'll have to mod that myself someday
I was just thinking about trying HM again, good timing. My one complaint on a personal level is no big bonk when so many big bonk items. Any suggestions for HM party lineups that have fighter/barb/paladins doing big melee damage?
Gloomstalker 3 Pact of the Blade 6 Assassin 3 Take the warlock levels first, get charisma to 20 early with hag hair, get to ranger 3 in act 2 (dread ambusher), finish rogue levels in act 3. Endgame you will have a powerful spell sword that makes melee attacks off its charisma modifier. You will get three attacks on rd 1 by default with dread ambusher, drink bloodlust potions and you can capitalize off the fact that you will probably be killing at least one enemy on turn 1, giving you another attack. Damage numbers will go crazy if you pick basically any high tier 2 handed weapon. My favs include: Soulbreaker Greatsword ( gloomstalker ranger gives disguise self so you can take advantage of the gith bonus even if that’s not your starting race) Intransigent Warhammer B’s Giantslayer Blooded Greataxe That Trident you can get from the djinni that I won’t be able to spell correctly if my life depends on it Go crazy and don’t forget to use sneak attack for the extra damage die. You can use warlock cc spells or gear like the gloves of growling underdog to ensure you pretty much always have advantage on attacks.
Also don’t quote me on this because it just occurred to me after I sent the first reply, but it may be possible to pair this with arcane synergy gear and end up adding your spellcasting modifier to your melee damage twice?? Correct me if I’m wrong. And if I am wrong, just use gloves of belligerent skies and the charge bound warhammer so you can knock people prone via reverberation. Bonus points for the thunderskin cloak which would cause enemies to become dazed if they attack you while they have the stacks of reverb.
When I started this playthrough I was actually heavily debating between the nature cleric and a moon druid, so I'd personally slot it in there, but you can definitely swap out the beastmaster instead! That version might be a little light on damage output, so you may want to lean more heavily into lighting/cold + wet effects if you go that route though
@@Cephalopocalypse Okay then, yeah nature cleric swap makes sense. I've just heard that cleric is so good you always want to have one. I just don't know how most classes play in practice so it's hard to build teams, especially since I haven't beaten the game yet and my teams just never mesh well.
It's true (strike)! Though that's more useful in tabletop than in BG3, since in the video game you can almost always start combat from hiding if you have an important spell to land at the start of a fight, and that also gives you advantage. It's still useful in some situations to prep before combat starts if there's an arena that's hard to hide in for whatever reason though!
Gale will never be used as a party member for my runs. He's WAAAAY too valuable as the camp caster for warding bond. He has almost unlimited hit points in this role and therefore your entire party takes half damage from ALL sources for most of the game - definitely by level 5 or 6. I say almost unlimited hit points because in my tactician run I barely survived the battle with Ansur at level 10 and Gale actually died in camp!!! I didnt think that was possible because he's supposed to go nova and nuke baldurs gate when that happens. But he did die and I had to revive him nonetheless.
This is the second video I have watched where he has mentioned that there is one good fight to use disintegrate in. Can someone tell me which fight that is?
@@Cephalopocalypse oh that is awesome and kind of funny. But it makes sense. I didn't expect you to be the one to answer me but thank you for taking the time. Been enjoying watching some of your backlog, keep up the good work.
Hi! I love your videos! Would you consider doing a video for how to make the best build for a romance interest? I always keep Astarion in my party so it would be really nice to make him a good support build that still does damage :)
Raging already gives you resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage, the same as Blade Ward. Bearbearian gives you resistance to other damage types as well, but doesn't do anything to the three damage types Raging already protects you from. That being said, Raging and Blade Ward both grant resistances to the same thing, so stacking them doesn't do anything additional.
It doesn't! Both are resistance, which (mostly) can't stack. BG3 does allow resistances to stack in a *few* cases, but those are presumably bugs or oversights, and that's not one of them
Thank you for the excellent video! I think I’m gonna use three out of four of these for my next run that I’m actually been preparing for! Quick question. 1. Do you have another recommended build instead of the beastmaster that you would use from your prior video series? I’ve yet to do anything with Hadar! 2. Do you have another video that covers mage Hand. I feel like I don’t use this correctly or at all…
I should add that I think I would love to swap out the nature cleric for a land Druid since I haven’t played one yet. I need to see if you have a build on that!
Swords Bard with arrow of many targets and helm of arcane acuity. Hold person and hold monster with 28 DC... Barbarian/Monk/Rogue Thief Karlach and soul coins Sorcadin or Bardadin Fire Draconic Sorcerer 8/Evocation Wizard 2/Fighter 2 and spam Fireball
I'm genuinely not sure why we got to pick cleric skills there. In the moment thought I just forgot a feature of life domain cleric getting extra skills, but it shouldn't afaik. I think we got two extra skill proficiencies for free somehow!

Optimizing is fun, breaking the game is fun, smosh all you enemies in one turn is fun. You know why? Couse that need a lot of trial an error and learn about all the tools that the game bring us. Once you learn that guess what, you can make goofy builds that still r efective inside or outside of combat. You want to have fun making hard decitions in combat? Pick casters. You want to be blunt yet efective? Pick martials. Fun is subjetive mate.
@@michaelk9080 when the fuck did i say that you dumbass. i love optimising my build and coming up with interesting and varied combos, what I meant and don't like is broken shit like tavern brawler builds, builds that rely on bugged interactions to one shot groups of enemies or some other broken effect like the staff of cherished necromancy not spending any spell slots on necromancy spells, strats that consist of completely avoiding entire mechanics integral to the fights, i want the boss to fuck me over so that i can fuck them over in return

Thank you ❤ this video came right on time🎉
Awesome, glad you liked it!
Interesting build group. Thanks!
I'm here for this.
Sounds like it's time for you to start planning for a Let's-Play! 40ish minutes, two or three times a week would be great for you channel.
@michaelnadler596 great showcase for the builds.
@Cephalopocalypse 2nd channel? That way you don't have to care about the drop. Shamelessly promote your playthrough on the main channel.
@@scottduncan7099 I’d watch that fs
@@Cephalopocalypse oh that sucks. sounds like a separate channel would be better for a lets play then if you were interested. This has been my favorite of your build guides because I agree with your definition of 'FUN' while a lot of the other ones have been more min/max :)
This was great! Thank you
Thanks!
Hell yeah. Can't give this enough thumbs up 👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Was just about to start a new campaign wow perfect timing!
@Cephalopocalypse As always, your content is top notch and the moment I see a notification I rush to watch. ilu and thank you
Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words :D
I highly recommend a single level dip into Fighter for the Lore Bard, and even the Nature Cleric. (Hell, even the WM Sorc.) Here you have done a one level dip into Life Cleric, so this can be an alternative, or it can be two 1 level dips. For the cost of just one level of Bard progression, you get:
Medium Armor Profiency
Heavy Armor Proficiency
Shield Proficiency
Constitution Saving Throw Proficiency
Archery Fighting Style (then in late game can change to Defence). The Nature Cleric could take Dueling for +2 to all melee bonks or even Protection for another great Reaction.
I find this makes Lore Bards so much better in the early game.
OMG! A new full party video!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES ! Bring the popcorn ! and be ready to click New Campaign :)
happy to see bm ranger in the party it is my fav to play
beastmaster mentioned, let's goooooo
its actually really fun
It’s funny I haven’t played any of those subclasses in my four play-throughs! I will definitely try so one of these:)
Great video! I'd love to see your Storm Party build. Storm Sorcerer, Tempest Cleric, Way of the Four Elements Monk, ??
He actually showed that one already. It was the lightning lord, a barbarian thrower, a tempest cleric, and a moon druid I believe.
@@Theonetruefinalboss interesting, I'll have to look for that
I already posted one! You can find it under "the best blaster party in bg3"
@@Cephalopocalypse thanks, I must have missed it. Maybe I was looking for a title like "Honor Mode Can't Weather This Storm!" Haha
Yeah duo honor mode build i would love to see that
Cool party build.
I used your party which used a abjuration wizzard. Strong, but a bit cheesy. Bagged my first HM run, nearly wiped to the final boss though.
The final fight is all about globes of invulnerability and overwhelming force
@@Douglas-nt7jd lol i just piled like every explosive from the game that i had picked up, in front of the brain, and lit it, gg.
globe dealers are raking it in whenever im in act 3
6 stacks of Fierce Perilous Stakes before hitting the brainstem and then just Artistry of War and Magic Missile everything down. Once clear put on some more stacks before the Brain. With full ilithid you can cast it two times per turn for free
Nice, congrats on the win!
I 100% thought the rain sound was coming from the waterfall
Going to have to give this a shot. At first glance the party feels a bit weak, or at least out of my usual play style. Feels like I would learn a lot trying it out. My last HM run I finished was your all melee party and I had a blast with that.
Wild magic sorcerer sounds like a game over just waiting to happen
It's much less dangerous than you might imagine!
17:09 How about bending the luck more by adding 2 lvls of divination wizard into the wild magic build?🍀🍀🍀
Perfect timing
I've beaten honour mode unmodded 7 times. My go-to is:
Cleric, either light or life
Either open hand monk/rogue or paladin
Magic missile Evocation wizard or sorlock eldritch blaster
My Tav is a Lore or Swords bard
i live for your new videos bless
Thanks!
love this but could you do more game play?
I would love to watch these characters in action.
This video is already well over an hour :P
Ceph has answered this before, he's got the youtube metrics, people skip gameplay footage.
@@meekrab9027 That's good info, I was thinking a separate video dedicated to seeing those builds in some of the big fights throughout the game, but it sounds like not many other people would want to watch. fair enough.
@@Cephalopocalypse When it's good it's good I don't mind the length, but I'll watch pretty much anything BG3 you make.
Thank you great video !! What would you do with Ethel hair for this party ?
How about a Wild Magic Barbarian? I’ve had lots of fun with that one.
What are a couple suggestions for a melee weapon for the BM ranger would you make through out the game to use a buff/stat stick?
love this build series , but can i use this on explorer difficulty ?
It is made for Honour mode, So it would destroy in Explorer :)
Its wild i was just asking around forums for honor mode comp ideas on my third playthrough. Good inspiration
seeing a throwing barb in a party would be cool not sure if a past video has one or not
semi-unrelated but im starting my first honour mode run right now, using your; valiant defender, radiant brawler, eldritch archer and invincible tank wizard builds, hopefully they get me those golden dice xD
If i am looking for a 4 part combo for a revenge tour on tactician where i can just purposely stomp the game, will this 4 some do?
Id love to see your take on an undead focused party! I'm thinking Oathbreaker, Necromancer, Spores Druid, and War Cleric, but I'd love your thoughts!
Bard is my fav!
I think you're overlooking prolonged metamagic. 6 turns og globe of invulnerability? Or how about 2 rounds of command halt on 6 enemies?
Can you do a honor mode party build video for full stealth? I’m looking at classes like shadow monk, trickery cleric, maybe warlock and ranger? Separating enemy forces and sneaking into advantageous positions as an entire group sounds interesting, especially in coop
When mods come out for console m I’m definitely eyeing that shadow sorcerer for this party
I HAVE to ask, why is your githyanki custom character purple, with aqua face tattoos, a red demonic eye and colorful hair?
why not
Thanks for this but I am well past my 2nd or 3rd play-through. what do you recommend for 9th or 10th?
2 Wild Magic Sorcerers. 2 Wild Magic Barbarians. Sorcs are gnomes, Barbs are Halflings.
@@johnbryant6690 Ugh!! I just can’t. time to find another game i guess.
This would also be fun for that imo! This party was my like 5th (second honour mode run, shortly after it came out)
Hi, just like to say fantastic channel and most of my builds come from you.
@@evanv7607 thanks for clearing that up.
who should i give auntie ethels hair to for this group ?
I'd love a proper balance patch in bg3 and harder enemy ai to truly enjoy the game as it was meant to be played but I guess I'll have to mod that myself someday
If you wanted to play the wild magic sorc as your tav instead of the bard, what changes would you make to the party?
I was just thinking about trying HM again, good timing. My one complaint on a personal level is no big bonk when so many big bonk items. Any suggestions for HM party lineups that have fighter/barb/paladins doing big melee damage?
Gloomstalker 3
Pact of the Blade 6
Assassin 3
Take the warlock levels first, get charisma to 20 early with hag hair, get to ranger 3 in act 2 (dread ambusher), finish rogue levels in act 3.
My favs include:
Soulbreaker Greatsword ( gloomstalker ranger gives disguise self so you can take advantage of the gith bonus even if that’s not your starting race)
Intransigent Warhammer
B’s Giantslayer
Blooded Greataxe
That Trident you can get from the djinni that I won’t be able to spell correctly if my life depends on it
Go crazy and don’t forget to use sneak attack for the extra damage die.
What's the late game boss with low dex save that you can disintegrate?
Can I make the Beastmaster Ranger a Moon Druid? I love my moon druid.
moon druid would slot better in the nature cleric spot IMO
@@stormtro0pr3 but then I wouldn't have a cleric for sanctuary and other awesome cleric spells. spoke too soon. the bard gets sanctuary.
Whats the reference with true strike?
While true strike is worthless on martial classes, a case could be made for it on a spellcaster since they waste spell slots on misses
No, just no. Just increase hit chance in other ways. Never optimise for failure
How do i get the beastmaster ?
What enemy are you referencing for that Disintegrate spell scroll? A certain brain is my guess
yep!
Can someone tell me which fight that is?
the final boss! Note its +0 to dex saves

Anyone know if blade ward and the Bear Barbarian damage mitigations stack?
Raging already gives you resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage, the same as Blade Ward. Bearbearian gives you resistance to other damage types as well, but doesn't do anything to the three damage types Raging already protects you from.
That being said, Raging and Blade Ward both grant resistances to the same thing, so stacking them doesn't do anything additional.
It doesn't! Both are resistance, which (mostly) can't stack. BG3 does allow resistances to stack in a *few* cases, but those are presumably bugs or oversights, and that's not one of them
@1:05:50 he bravely ran away, away
Barbarian/Monk/Rogue Thief Karlach and soul coins
Sorcadin or Bardadin
Fire Draconic Sorcerer 8/Evocation Wizard 2/Fighter 2 and spam Fireball
Something tells me now that are mods available there are more potential for fun builds
Oh, what? Since when multiclassing allows you to pick up more skills from your new class? Did they change it in patch 7?
I'm genuinely not sure why we got to pick cleric skills there. In the moment thought I just forgot a feature of life domain cleric getting extra skills, but it shouldn't afaik. I think we got two extra skill proficiencies for free somehow!
Dont tell me I have to think! D:

Algorithm comment
I hate this genre of videos that just focus on coming up with the most broken and borderline cheesy strategies in every game and bg3 is no exception, they just optimize the challenge and fun out of any game so I love that you're just giving us fun party comps that still work but aren't the same broken builds

@@krysuh6936 i mean i played bonk builds a lot in soulsborne and had a blast every time a big ass number appeared on the screen, i'm not contrary to goofy and stupid and even op builds as long as they're fun and niche, and like i answered to the other guy i do like optimizing my character and making sure there's a good synergy between my pieces of equipment, my stats, traits, etc. what i meant is this sweaty gamer content that's obsessed with "The best build", the best weapon, the best comp, here this bug is an instant win button in many fights use it, basically anything that trivializes fights and turns bosses into a joke, I just can't see the appeal in that
