These guys probably write riffs in their sleep, there’s not a bad song to be had from them. 🤘

Ningen Isu's Heartless Scat is one of the most artfully and thoughtfully composed pieces of rock or metal that I've heard and it comes with a great video. I grew up hearing classical music (my mom was a piano teacher) and, while Heartless Scat is a hard-rocking piece (and a lot of fun), it sounds as carefully structured to me as a good piece of classical music, with creative development of the thematic material and motifs.
(Toshishun was a new one for me - thanks for the review. BTW, if you like that crunchy, old-fashioned guitar tone, Voice of Baceprot is another band that has it (even though the members of VoB are young). Their music videos (starting with School Revolution) are good, and the live performances from Rennes and Pasiwali have pretty good sound quality and enthusiastic audiences (and they played Wacken, but the sound from that concert is not as clean). I heard about Ningen Isu because people reviewing VoB said the sound reminded them of Ningen Isu).

I invite you to discover this wonderful talented young singer.
This angel is one of the best singers (incredible extremely low vocal, dramatic contralto + polyphonic voice) in the world!
    Diana Ankudinova
I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!!
She's now 20 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English, German, Spanish and Arabic.
The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include "California Dreamin' " , "Sweet Dreams" (all 19 y.o.), "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Crow", "Personal Jesus" (all 18 y.o.), "Wicked Game", "Human" (15 y.o.), "Derniere Danse", "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" (14 y.o.), "Take On Me" (17 y.o.) and others.

A small selection of some of Diana's best performances.
The first short video (TRY IT NOW) is a photoshoot with a short snippet of Sweat Dreams.

Ningen Isu has a new album coming out in a few weeks, their 23rd. Others have mentioned Heartless Scat (their biggest hit) and The Colour Out of Space as good options for a next reaction. If you feel up to it, they have an 11 minute atmospheric masterpiece, At the Mountains of Madness, another Lovecraft-inspired song. The bass player sings in that one, as well as the guitarist. Namahage is another that is a great song and popular for reactors.
One other band you may enjoy would be Onmyo-za, with dual vocalists, female and male, who refer to themselves as Yokai Heavy Metal. They've been around for about 25 years, and are still going strong. A great intro song for them would be Onmyo-za - Kumikyoku [Yoshitsune] AKKI~ HOUGAN (Live RAIJIN RAIBU).

    印象的なアコースティックなイントロからハードロック&お父さ〜ん♪のインパクト❗
    そして荘厳なラストへの展開は正にプログレッシブロック❗
    人間椅子は本当に素晴らしい✨👍

Not just a percussionist, the drummer also sings for some songs :) This band has easily made it to my top 10 personally. I've listened to Caterpillar so many times, it's such a great jam.

Ningen Issu translates as Human Chair and they take their name from a horror genre story of the same title. A lot of their songs are inspired by horror stories. My introduction to them was through their song The Colour Out of Space after the H.P. Lovecraft short story. Something I read in the early 1970's around the same time I was really into these up and coming new bands Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Love these guys.

you can really hear the influences of H.P Lovecraft and Buddhist theological stories in a lot of their tracks. Ningen Isu have recreated themselves over time, as good bands do, after having an earlier iteration as a heavy punk sounding unit. That's what first caught my attention. They were excellent all the way back then and even better now..

@@lencooke944Somewhere on UA-cam there's a televised performance from 1989. They do a note-for-note cover of KISS' Detroit Rock City. Pretty wild

This video and others are available with English subtitles, which I suggest. Their main influence is Black Sabbath. In fact, Shini Wajima even plays the same style guitar as Tony Iommi (a Gibson SG), and even has one autographed by Iommi (who invented metal with Black Sabbath). The bass player is also a big fan of Gene Simmons (the bass player for KISS), which is where a lot of his look comes from. The band's name means "The HUman Chair", which is an old Japanese horror story from the 1920's; so even the way of creating the band's name was like Sabbath's, which was based on the title of a 1960's Boris Karloff horror movie. I suggest you check out their videos (with English subtitles) for Heartless Scat, The Colour Out of Space (based on an old HP Lovecraft horror story), and the live Namahage which also features English subtitles with studio sound.

Ningen Isu has an enormous back catalog and most of it is great stuff. Others have given some good suggestions here. For some phat riff-based metal, check out their 'Love Nirvana'.

Good choice for a first listen. I prefer the songs with Kenichi providing the vocals, but that's just me and does not detract from my appreciation of all of their albums and songs. My grand daughter introduced me to them in the early 90s and it has been a great time following them since then.

Enjoyable reaction, and observations. Usually Ningen Isu videos have English Lyrics on subtitles (CC). However, for Toshishun they made two videos, one with English lyrics 'printed' directly onto the video:
_NINGEN ISU / Toshishun(with English lyric ver.)_ ua-cam.com/video/tKSjWKDSBmo/v-deo.html
This comment by @joan4p704 seems to be a pretty good translation of the original story:
    ua-cam.com/video/tKSjWKDSBmo/v-deo.html&lc=UgwarDn4O966kULJKmt4AaABAg
My favourite part is the outro which reminds me of Wishbone Ash.
There are a lot of good Ningen Isu MVs here on YT. I'll recommend _NINGEN ISU / Heartless Scat_ ua-cam.com/video/CbI79e5iZKs/v-deo.html because it is their 'breakthrough' in the West. It has more structure and changes than Toshishun, It has English lyrics on subtitles (CC).
Very unfortunately, their first 'World Tour' started early 2020, then got stopped in its tracks for obvious reasons.
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. ☮

@@septasoareousrex I hope you enjoy Ningen Isu, there is a lot to like. Many of their songs are inspired by 'classic' (Japanese, Chinese and Western) literature, and philosophy. So, a wide range of subjects. Your commenters mention great songs.
I'm fond of _NINGEN ISU / The Colour out of Space (人間椅子 / 宇宙からの色)_ ua-cam.com/video/1JY89ZxVqEg/v-deo.html It has a slow 'Doomy' break in the middle and overall 'kicks bottom' † 😀
As well as English subtitles the MV has a pinned comment of the English lyrics. So you can get the gist of it more easily than Toshishun. It is based on the HP Lovecraft short SciFi/horror story "The Colour out of Space". Wikipedia has an article on the story, with this helpful summary:
_"In the tale, an unnamed narrator pieces together the story of an area known by the locals as the "blasted heath" (most likely after a line from either Milton's Paradise Lost or Shakespeare's Macbeth)[3] in the hills west of the fictional town of Arkham, Massachusetts. The narrator discovers that many years ago a meteorite crashed there, poisoning every living being nearby: vegetation grows large but foul-tasting, animals are driven mad and deformed into grotesque shapes, and the people go insane or die one by one."_
Their most recent is _人間椅子「さらば世界」(NINGEN ISU / FAREWELL TO THE WORLD)_ ua-cam.com/video/PAHig2tFeLw/v-deo.html It's only 2 months old (so you might get extra views being topical), the MV is ambitious, and it 'kicks botty' †🤘👍
My Very Best Wishes to you both for a Merry Christmas 🎄🎉🎅🤘and
      Happy, Peaceful New Year. ☮
      † Child-friendly comments? 😉

@@septasoareousrex It occurred to me you might be too young to know Jethro Tull, and the controversy when the beat Metallica to the first "Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental".
If you're unfamiliar with Jethro Tull, they are a British, Blues, Folk Rock, Hard Rock, Prog band formed in the late 1960s. They have a wide ranging catalogue. You might enjoy their heavier, more famous, 50+ year old tracks (on 1971 album, 'Aqualung'):
_Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath (Rockpop In Concert 10.7.1982)_ ua-cam.com/video/eSUdlUmtg3Q/v-deo.html
_Jethro Tull - Aqualung (Rockpop In Concert 10.7.1982)_ ua-cam.com/video/OFhdIk5clYw/v-deo.html This is more of a rock ballad. It's about homelessness, and the perception 'society' might have of a homeless man (nicknamed 'Aqualung' because of his noisy breathing, maybe due to bad health).
Their front-man and leader, Ian Anderson, is a great showman. He also adds something practically unique in Rock-music to their sound too, flute.
I hope you can find time to react to them.
Again, my Very Best Wishes to you both for a Merry Christmas 🎄🎉🎅🤘and
Happy, Music-rich, Peaceful New Year. 😊🎶☮
