If I read the purchase webpage correctly @3:46...you need to correct your opening to reflect the ACTUAL price. You stated a price of $1183...but that is the price for the Basic fare. The price for the PE-Standard fare is $1813...which is a difference of $630. Not an insignificant amount.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! You are so right! The $1183 is Premium Economy Basic. The $1813 is the Premium Economy Standard!!! Let me add a note to the description. I'm so sorry ... :( Definitely look for the Premium Economy "Standard" fare price. I also did a quick scan to see what prices are looking like right now. Seems pricing has dropped / possible good deals right now, I'm seeing $1083 for Premium Economy Standard from SFO to TPE! Thank you so much CBennett
If you wanted to book an award flight for business class (without the upgrade), could you just transfer the points and book the flight online without having to call customer service?
I’ve been trying to get my parents to Vietnam in business class. 😅Finally, gathering the the right points. This video is great since I don’t have enough points for both and can pay some in cash. Great video.
Thanks so much for making this video! I’m located in SF and I was thinking about flying Eva Air so this video is really helpful. I had a question…what month did your mother in law go on the trip? Just wondering how I can get a deal for premium economy for around $1,000 when it’s usually double the price.
Hi Emily, my MIL went during off peak season. I think it was around March/April and is for one way only. Important note, the example in the video has a mistake! I took the 1183 BASIC fare, which the Standard fare was 1813 :( Literally a viewer pointed it out almost a year after i posted it. So I just took a quick scan of Eva's website. The cheapest one way fare i could find between SFO and TPE is $1300 or so for one way. However, if you're willing to buy RT, the price goes down. So in this case, the RT Premium Economy Standard fare was $1038 One Way SFO to TPE (The full RT ticket was $2000.) I hope that helps!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm new to using my points so your videos are very helpful. How come you didn't book the business seat ticket directly using points instead of going through booking PE then upgrading? Thanks!
Hi Jenny, Great Question! My mother in law only had roughly 100K points. To book RT Business, it would cost 150K. It was more of a choice of improving her flight experience since she was already paying Premium Economy RT already.
Hi Kim! For EVA Air, it would be more difficult. However, if you're based in Canada, Aeroplan is an incredibly powerful points program. There are many options to upgrade from Premium to business Class, OR book business class directly with Aeroplan miles.
Great post. Can you do video on how to book eva flights for another family member who doesn't have any points? If I have capital one card and convert to eva, can I transfer the 35K eva points to a family member for them to upgrade or can I book flight on their behalf?
Great question! I just learnt that EVA AIR has a way to transfer points from one MileageLands member to another for free. You have to call into EVA AIR, ask for the online service form to get your account approved for transfers. Then select your other family member mileageland account as the nominee and you would be able to transfer points that way. IMPORTANT NOTE - Transferring from Capital One to Eva Air is at a 2:1.5 ratio. It is NOT 1:1. That would require more than 35K for Capital One points! Hope this helps :)
Man EVA Sucks!! I booked with them and I couldn’t even select my seat without a additional fee!! So my question is: I already booked a economy flight using Chase UR points in the Chase Portal. Can I still call them and upgrade my seat? Since I was not able to select a isle seat like I prefer then I am scared I will be stuck in a middle seat.
Hey Jay, can you look at your reservation and see what Seat Fare Code you have? Is it Class Q/H/M? I'm not exactly sure what economy fare is available through the Chase Portal. In terms of Seating Policy, if you bought a Economy Basic or Discounted fare, they wont allow seat selection till 48 hours before when it opens to everyone. Reading on reddit, there is a high percentage you might end up with a middle seat.
@@thetravelpointsdad There are a bunch of Seat Fare Codes I found them all on Flyer Talk. I have fare V. Btw EVA Air app which I just messed around with for 10 minutes is super slow and it’s annoying! It should have only taken me 2 minutes to get everything I needed but it kept loading and taking forever. This will be the last time I fly with EVA Air!
Great tips!! Can I buy Economy tickets and upgrade to Business using the same method in your video? Or is the upgrade only available from Premium Economy to Business?
Hey Rick, in this specific instance yes, since we're using points to upgrade. You definitely can upgrade with Economy depending on fare code. Here is the cost for upgrading from economy to business class!
@@superazn264 OMG! I'm so sorry. I literally put my dealership website :( Here is the correct link: www.evaair.com/en-us/infinity-mileagelands/mileage-award-program/mileage-redemption/upgrade-award/eva-uni-air/ I'm so sorry!!!
GREAT question! Just found out from EVA AIR they no longer allow holds on redemptions. That's correct you could run into the issue where your upgrade award availability could be lost within the 24 hours. For my Mother In Law's example, they said there were 5+ spaces available (I took it as it was pretty much empty). I would imagine this could be a risk factor for say larger families wanting to book 4 seats together. Hopefully calendar flexibility could help in those cases.
That's not exactly true. By using points to upgrade from Premium to Business, you can stretch a finite amount of points more. Example you got 150,000 points from a sign-up. If you paid business RT with all points, that would be one RT flight. If you upgrade, you get 2 RT flights but higher cash required. So it's more of how many business flights you wish to fly, and how often. However, both routes is WAY better than paying business cash fare.
Yes you can! EVA AIR allows you to buy 1000 points for $40 US dollars. (Max 150K a year). Buying 35K points would cost $1400 US dollars. If you were planning to buy business class cash fare for ($4800), buying points and the premium economy standard fare would still be the better way. $1,100 + $1,400 = $2,500. That could save you $2,300.

I can see why it would have been easy to mix them since the numbers are so similar. I did learn from your video. Appreciate your insight.
You have focus, great visuals, step-by-step details...great!
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate the kind words!
Very good info. EVA never answers their USA number. I never thought to call their Taipei number. 👍
Super glad this could help!!!

yes you can book directly if you are the one that will be travelling

Just where and when? Try these with more than 2 people. 14k5 for 4 passengers in Q-suit to Vietnam. With 0 step.
Hey Cas, definitely! Trying to book multiple business class seats, 4+ in any business product would be very hard! Did you need help with Q Suites?

Interesting trick! Did you hold the award after confirming available? Since it took almost 24 hrs for pts to transfer, seat could be gone?

maybe break your video into chapters on the timeline? makes it easier to find info
Great feedback! Im definitely going to look into that and see how to do that!
Is 35K for OW or RT?
35K would be One way!
why?! this is so much worse than just not flying EVA and use ANA/virgin or whatever
