- Lounge Access: Discover the Reserve's exclusive access to Priority Pass - - Select lounges and its own Sapphire Lounges, a perk not offered by the Preferred.
- Points Earning: Understand how both cards earn 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, but the Reserve offers 10x points on hotels and car rentals through Chase.

HOW to Fly EVA AIR BUSINESS Class for LESS by upgrading Premium Economy with CITI ThankYou Points
Hi! Great video and tips! Is it possible to book for a family of 5 on economy or premium economy using your step by step instruction? Do I just repeat the steps n enter all 5 members info then call Starlux? Thank you!
I'm following your steps, but when I checked on Flyertalk, there was nothing helpful about YVR-SIN bids, and there are also only 4 seats left on the plane, so my bets are the bids will be competitive
Great video! If i transfer my points to aeroplan is it stuck there if i dont en dup using it? Also another question im looking to book toronto to tokyo with my points Is this considered a good deal for air canada economy flex reward at 68.8k points which is $688 for the round trip VS the cash price of this trip is $1117? thx!
Reserve easily IMO. $205 EAF difference (if you value the CSP portal credit at full- which is arguable) Happy to pay that for the extra insurance and lounge access etc. Breakpoint for CSR being mathematically better is $20,500 in travel spend/year or 82,000 points redeemed through the Chase portal/year (very likely if you use it for booking domestic economy)
You're a savior man
STARLUX yay
I love your short, focused videos, and your point #1, #2, #3, etc.
I pay rent via Zelle but that doesn't work with Bilt. Any suggestions for a work around?
Is there a way to make paying rent via Zelle work with Bilt?
I don’t think they do Zelle but they can send a check to you
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Xavier.
Does this still work?
Hi Potential Grape, definitely! There is actually a promotion going on for certain flights where the upgrade cost is reduced between west coast cities and TPE. www.evaair.com/en-us/plan-and-book/special-offers/promotions/ff-promotion/202410laxsfo-promoen-020a.html

4:26 how do I get the sign-up bonus every 24 months? Apply for a new card.
Awesome, I didn't know about this. Thanks!
Unfortunately this appears to have changed. I'm not seeing the same options. Now they have "Bill Pay" that it takes you to when trying to set this up. Not sure how to configure it. Can you make a new video with the updates? Thank you!
Hi TheFunk, Thanks for the heads up! Let me see if i can cancel my auto bill and film another quick update for 2025!
Citi is terrible. Don’t do it! Cards kept getting flagged for fraud so you can’t even use it. Avoid!!!! You can transfer capital one to Eva and y laurel class The rate is not 1:1 but it’s worth it
EEEK! I'm so sorry to hear that Pumpkin Pie! The cards getting flagged for fraud sounds horrible.
Have a relationship with city I’ve had the Best Buy credit card for 12+ years I then got the basic American Airlines card with no annual fee and then six months later I went for the annual fee card and got approved.
Did you apply as EIN or sole proprietor
Hey Alfonso, I was using Sole Proprietor and SSN.
GGreat video, very clear! Do all the names need to match? from amex to hawaai and to alsaka? how long does it take for the miles to land in to alska from hawaai?
Hi Menachem, the profiles will definitely need matching profile names including middle name if you added it. The point transfer should be near instantaneous. My 1000 pt test transfer Amex->Hawaii->Alaska was quite fast (less than 30 minutes) since i was filming it live and making the tutorial live.
2:56 Hello, I don’t understand how you got (589 - 85), the screen clearly says 25,200 + $156 vs 40,814. What am I missing here?
Hi Songrui, I'm so sorry! Im trying to remember. I think it was because I converted CAD to USD where I am located. However, it could also be I didn't get the right numbers and screen shots when I was writing the script. I am so sorry :( It has been a while and I can't quite remember. But if you have any questions about the calculation for if it's all points vs points and cash, please let me know and happy to help.
I booked premium economy and waiting for the bid result. They said to inform within 48 hrs but i only have 30 hrs left lol so just need to have a luck for last minute upgrade. Wish me a luck tmrw!
Hi 구자철, how did it go in the end? :D
Any updates?
Is the blue card included in the delta line?
Hey Nature Boy, are you referring to Delta SkyMiles Blue Amex Card? If so, yes, family rules were added to Delta cards in Sept 2023. Here are the rules for Delta SkyMiles Blue Amex Card as an example: You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card, the Delta SkyMiles® Options Credit Card, the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card, the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or previous versions of these Cards. You also may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer based on various factors, such as your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors. If you are not eligible for a welcome offer, we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.
Thank you so much
Your Welcome Albert! Hope you were able to book some flights!
I just used this to book flights to Mexico. Thank you so much!!
Your Welcome Guemz! So glad it helped!
BUT the most important thing is left out: one must have a reference number first ! That means you must have bought a ticket !
there is no 2FA authentication is required?
Hi Saurabh, great point. I think I cut it out to make it faster, but i'll make sure to add a note for login steps going forward.
I find the Bilt card hard to use outside of rent payments. I buy things out of need and convience. The first of the month never lined up for me. The incentives to use the card more like the starus levels have nerfed it. I don't see this card being a main card for me anymore.
Thank you for the info!
Thank you! You made this really simple to follow! Managed to score my first business class seats on JAL!
Thank you! Very clear and easy explanation. Managed to score my first business class flight from Sapporo-West Coast!
Been looking at Starlux redemptions and I've only found 250k redemptions for business class. Seems super outrageous, not sure where all these 85k rewards are at.
Hey Scott, you're totally right. I just scanned SFO <-> TPE, and LAX <-> TPE, even furthest away months are showing no saver awards :( That's not good. It could be that a lot of people booked up the saver after American Express -> Alaska Airline backdoor opened up. OR the bad news is, Alaska is preparing for their new program and 175K could be the new normal :( I'm still seeing Premium Partner Economy awards for 50K so those could be an option if you have fixed dates.
@thetravelpointsdad Yeah premium economy for the 65k isn't bad, but it's not ideal. Looks like the non-Starlux redemptions are more forgivable for Alaska now, but I'd much rather try Starlux!
@TheTravelPointsDad Can I use my aero points to pay my Apple product purchases via Aeroplan's own website? There is an Apple Reward store within Aeroplan's estore. Thanks
Right off the bat, you said something incorrect. Bidding can be open AT ANY TIME after ticket purchase, not starting 10 days before departure like you said.
You are totally correct! I'm so sorry. My response was incorrect. Per your answer and Air Canada, bid upgrades can happen any time. Thank you for the correction. www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/book/upgrades.html#/
It’s going to take more work, but there are now more opportunities to get seats for less points and significantly less taxes. My question, is the bid for upgrade still available? If so, buying a 9,000 point economy seat and bidding for PE or UC could be the hack for best value.
Dynamic pricing is ugh. 😒
if I book Hertz using capital one portal, is it considered to be under president circle status (assuming I already enrolled in Hertz presidential circle benefit)?
yes
I used the 40% transfer bonus from Chase to Virgin Atlantic. With the transfer bonus and the cheap VA flights right now I was able to get 12.7 CPP. It was 22,000 points and $366.50 in taxes/fees for a family of 5 from New York to London!!!
Ron that's awesome!!! What dates are you flying???
@@thetravelpointsdad In September. Now I'm looking for Air France deals back to the east coast. I have a stash of points with Flying Blue I want to use.
@@ronburn Just did a quick search for you for Europe large airports to East Coast hubs, For September, Im seeing 55k on AF business class for several dates mid month from MAD/BCN to JFK/BOS. Hope that helps :)
Have you found any other cards for the tax payments?
If you have an authorized user can rent be paid in the AU’s name?
Hey Anthony, I actually don't know that answer but that's a very interesting question. In the BILT portal, if you're paying with ACH, there is no real field to enter the paying renter's name. I would imagine if you're paying by check, it would be coming from the main account holder. Note, you can only pay rent once a month on an account and receive points. For example, if you pay for your rent, and your AU has their own rent, only one of those will count for 1x BILT points. There are situations where some people were able to call in and "group" payments like Utilities, with their Rent, but unlikely you can group two rent payments together. As for Tax Payments, there are many cards that give 2x flat out like the Venture X (for those that do not want to sign up for a new credit card). For our family, we picked up a new business amex card with a large sign-up offer, which I will be using for our property and Q4 estimates payments! :)
@@thetravelpointsdadthanks for the response!
Do you have to spend 6k every year to acquire a campion pass annually? Does the campion pass expire once you’ve acquired it for the year or does it roll over? I am considering cancelling my card.
Hey Lawrence, when did you get your Alaska card? If you were grand fathered in before January 18, 2023, then you do not. However, if you applied after Jan 18, 2023, then you will need to spend 6K each card year to get a companion pass the next card anniversary comes. You do not get it right away after meeting the spend (except for the first sign-up year) Companion passes do expire and should expire on the date of your anniversary. If you go to Alaska's website, you can go to Wallet and check certificates, you will see the exact expiry date. My common answer for the Alaska Visa Signature is if you have a recurring need for the companion pass or a family that enjoys going to Mexico or Hawaii often, then it's worth it to keep it. Example, if you are a family of four, you can use the every 2 years and buy two get two free strategy for Hawaii from West Coast (assuming 6K spend is not a problem). For our family, we have sports tournament in east coast recurring that is what we use ours for.
@@thetravelpointsdad I checked and I do not see any certificates. Thank you very much for this detailed information. I will cancel the credit card. I still have the original points which I will use in the future.
@@naruto2575 any time Lawrence! Thank you again for watching!
Can I bid if I already book premium economy seat. Thanks
Hi Jenny, you can start bidding on a business class upgrade 10 days prior to the flight. Make sure to check the plane you're flying. As Premium economy is already a great seat, make sure the cost of the upgrade is worth the additional product / amenity upgrade.
Hi Jenny, I am INCORRECT. You can bid right away after your booking! The 10 days prior is for the Instant Upgrade option and is different from the bidding option. "The Instant Upgrade option is available on eligible routes and flights 10 to 3 days prior to departure and if both options are available, you can only pick one. If an upgrade is successful, it is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Is it worth getting the bilt card if you don't pay rent or hoa? Great job on UA-cam ♥️
Hi Vicki, thank you for the kind words! If you do not pay Rent or HoA, then the BILT card is not worth getting right now. If the situation changes, example if a family member moves out and starts renting for say College, or you're renting a business location, then you should look at BILT again. There are many cards with great sign-up offers that would beat the BILT card.
Does Amex flag you if you buy points to hit a welcome offer?
Hey Rodrigo, it depends on what points you are buying to hit the welcome offer. If you are Redeeming an amex award and "buying Amex Points" to top off, that is NOT allowed to hit the welcome offer. The terms and conditions are "The following charges do NOT count towards the spending requirement: fees or interest charges; purchases of travelers checks; purchases or reloading of prepaid cards; purchases of gift cards; person-to-person payments; or purchases of other cash equivalents" If the points are like Hilton points, buying points would not be considered "gift cards". I think the worst case scenario would Amex trying to argue as "cash equivalents". However, there are multiple data points online where people were able to buy loyalty points like Hilton, Hyatt etc ... from Points.com with no problem and counting towards the welcome offer! Hope that helps!
I am not booking a Hyatt in Hawaii and neither am I booking over priced flights with points. I want cash which is valued at 0.55 and I don’t recommend this card to anyone. Don’t fall for these tricks. There are better credit cards which will give nice $200-$300 sign up bonus. Keep applying for a new card every year and you don’t need Bilt
Hey Pinak, thank you for the feedback. I totally agree. BILT is NOT a cashback strategy credit card. However, if someone is paying their monthly Rent in cash or check. BILT is the only credit card that allows for $0 in fees to pay your rent and earn BILT points. I hope people who pay Rent with cash / check can see the power of the BILT card.
@@thetravelpointsdad I think you understand when a person applies for credit card, it results in a hard inquiry and people can only get limited credit cards within certain time
@@pinakmiku4999 definitely agree! Watch out for velocity rules (chase's 5/24 being the most common). I did an analysis of Chase Sapphire vs BILT for families and Chase Sapphire won out cause of the initial sign-up bonus. For advanced players, I can see the BILT card in the #3 to #5 slot. For beginners that have to pay rent, even at the #1 slot for BILT, building out Chase or Citi or American Express setups would all fit within their velocity rules.
@thetravelpointsdad what do you recommend ?
I didn't realize there was a Virgin Red. So, when I transferred my miles I used my Virgin Atlantic flying club number. What will happen to my miles?
Hey Bill, Virgin Red was actually introduced only a few years ago. If you had linked your Virgin Atlantic flying club number prior to that, then your miles should still be there. There is no expiration for Virgin Miles so they're safe! The only reason you would need to have a Virgin Red account is if you want to book the Virgin Voyages (All inclusive cruises for adults). This would require you linking your Virgin Atlantic -> Virgin Red account. Hope that helps!
@@thetravelpointsdad thanks for the info! That's very helpful. My miles finally showed up in my Virgin Atlantic account. But of course the flights that I wanted to book with miles are now 5x the number of points that they were when I initiated my transfer. I tried calling Virgin Atlantic to hold the flight at the original amount, but there was a 4 hour wait time to reach a representative. When I finally got someone on the line, the call dropped. Ugh.
@@billyd48359 Gah! Im so sorry to hear that. Virgin recently just did their dynamic pricing switch so that could be why there was a big pricing bump. They also removed the Monthly pricing calendar UI from their website. The best way now is to go back to the Virgin Reward Seat Checker tool to scan for low fares (for free tools).
Can you buy plane ticket plane ticket at 3rd party ticket seller like cheap o air and still gain points? Thank you, currently i am using wells fargo credit card which gives me 2% cash back, my friend suggest chase. Thanks
Hey Orev, if you buy a plane ticket from a 3rd party travel site like Cheap O Air & you're using your wells fargo credit card, you will get 2% cash back. Chase is a great credit card ecosystem / program to start as they're many transfer partners like Hyatt, United, Southwest, etc ... The main difference say if you use a Chase Sapphire credit card, you could get 2/3% back for Cheap O Air (assuming it codes as a travel category), which then could be transferred to say Hyatt hotels which could then turn that into say 4/5% back depending. Please note, Wells Fargo is also expanding into travel credit card with their Autograph collection. So Chase is NOT the only player in town. Lots of different options and happy to help answer any questions :)
@ thanks for the info. Well appreciated
You SAVED the day by explaining that the Virgin Red ID was a series of letters and not the ID NUMBER!!!!!!
Yay! I'm so glad Sara! There are some great awards these days after the Virgin Dynamic Pricing Change.
Hey man this is how you do it! Sometimes you have to get that good info out no matter what! Keep up the good work!
Thank you Chad! :) I really appreciate the encouragement!
