Great video, Chase! I took advantage of that transfer bonus as well to Virgin Atlantic. I look forward to flying ANA for the first time. Looks like an awesome experience 😎✈️
I'm planning to fly to Japan frequently in the next coming months and years and this video found itself in my recommendations just in time! Great explanations, I found it easy to understand.
Marriott's exchange rate is indeed 3 points per 1 mile but bear in mind it earns 3 points per dollar, so basically same 1:1. And you get 25% bonus mile if you exchange in lump sum.
well it depends what you are buying. for example, the CSP earns 1x on general purchases while the Marriott Brilliant earns 2x on those same purchases. But since you transfer Marriott at 3:1 vs Chase's 1:1, you would be better off spending on ur CSP over the Marriott card because although it gives you less points, you would need less points to transfer over to Marriott.
I'm just learning the points game, 2 questions.. 1. When you saw the 30% transfer bonus, should you transfer all of your points that get multiplied 1.3 and then later you can transfer the unused points somewhere else you may need them? 2. Trying to decide between CSR / CSP / CVX, goal is for lounge access a few regular flights a year and when points allow business class flights for 2.
Congratulations on starting your journey with points! Welcome to the club 👏🏽 1. I wouldn't transfer all of my points. Chase points are more valuable than airline points mainly because they offer more flexibility. So I would either transfer as many points as you are about to use for an upcoming flight or transfer points to a program that you KNOW you will use eventually. Like if I knew I would use Virgin points in the future then I would send a few over just to take slight advantage of the transfer bonus. 2. CSP wont give you lounge access so it would be VX or the CSR. The VX is way easier to break even with as it requires less credits / benefits to take advantage of. I think the VX is a better start into the "premium" travel card world because it has a lower annual fee, less credits and benefits to juggle, and it has great catch all reward multiplier.
Be cautious when considering the ANA Mileage Club program; many have found it lacking compared to other airlines' offerings. Despite purchasing a round-trip business class ticket, you may find that only part of your journey is awarded at this level, leaving you to return in coach. Although it's suggested you can upgrade by calling if award seats become available, be prepared for potentially long hold times without guarantee of success. Additionally, points for a round-trip business class seat are deducted, yet no refund is offered for the downgrade to coach. Even if business class seats remain available, don't expect an automatic upgrade.

I can't find any award flight with ANA airlines, using award search on United site in October - November 2024. I can only find a United flight that is offered from ORD to HND for 200K miles...What am I doing wrong?
i think those dates are too far ahead. you can try checking those dates occasionally from now until then. However you would have a much better chance of finding availability about 2 weeks to 1 week out from your travel date.
I found that United usually shows other partner airlines so you can try ANA. However right now I just checked and award availability from LHR to HND is pretty tight and there are waitlists.
I don't see any ANA flights on Virgin Altantic website. Going IAD to HND. Tried in Jan to May. Showed nothing. Only partner airline available is Delta.
We need more videos like this, and maybe if you can give us a video tutorial, that would be awesome! I can see the 30% more Virgin points thru Amex portal. I have a question, let's say I transfer 50,000 points from my Amex portal to Virgin, which effectively transfers to 65000 points. Can I transfer the Virgin points to other partners within the same alliance, like Delta or Korean Air? Thanks! BTWm I just subscribed!
Glad to hear that! I will continue to make more videos like this 🙏🏽 next time I can add video of my actually doing it as well. No you can not transfer points but you can book partner flights with Virgin points instead. Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. Welcome aboard 🤙🏽
how about for Korean airlines. So I can see the Nippon Airways flight in United air. How do I check the roundtrip value for Korean air? I looked everywhere to see if I can find Virgin airlines miles to travel to ICN - Seoul from LAX. I could not find any. Please kindly help
Hello Chase, When you booked your flight through Virgin, did you have to book a round-trip or could you book just a one-way? If I remember correctly, I believe that they require a round-trip booking as well, but correct me if I am wrong.
@@ChaseYokoyama so, if im able to search an ANA flight on the united website showing the price in "money" but the same flight doesn't pop up when I search it using "miles" does that mean it's not available?
I’m so confused 🤔 the ANA website is so complicated! Basically I want to redem 300k point Amex to Ana business class however ana is not showing the required miles for the flight
have you tried to find an available flight and seat options that you want? You need to have an account, click Flight Awards, Award Reservation, and enter in your trip details. Then hopefully you can find availability and the amount of miles needed.
Thanks for the great information. How do I book if I want to go from Tokyo to Bangkok (second leg) on ANA after finding flight from LAX to Tokyo (first leg)? Thanks.
You won't be able to use United's website to find that flight from Tokyo to Bangkok. Instead use ANA's website to search for an award reservation for that second leg. Then once you find an available ANA flight call Virgin to see if you can book it through them with Virgin points.
Hey, I have a question. Me and my partner are traveling to Japan in autumn and we were wondering if we could both transfer our points from our respective credit cards, hers is from chase and mine is from Amex, in theory is it possible for her chase points to be transferred to my virgin Atlantic club account ?
im excited for your trip to Japan! Luckily you can transfer virgin points to a family member. So your partner can send her Chase points to her virgin account. then she can transfer her virgin points from her account to your virgin account within Virgin. flywith.virginatlantic.com/us/en/flying-club/spend-points/transfer-points.html Of course if you want to be safe you can test it with the minimum amount of points to transfer which is 1,000.
If you have the option to pay with points. You need to check the box that says "Book with Miles". and if the flight has a blank under the cost then it is not available to be purchased with miles/points at that time.
hey chase, question! im saw a flight im looking for from ana app but i have chase points how can i book that ana flight with chase points ? do i transfer chase points to virgin and call virgin number you show from the room video to book ?
I would suggest finding the flight (making sure it's available to be purchased with points), calling Virgin to confirm you can purchase the flight through Virgin with points, then after confirmation, transfer your Chase points to Virgin and call them again to go through with the purchase.
Hey, really good video :) The issue I am having is trying to find availability for a LHR to Tokyo on ANA business is proving impossible. I have tried to use United and Air Canada search engines but best I can find is economy - even one year ahead. Do you have any tips please?
Try looking around 3 - 14 days ahead instead. Unfortunately a lot of those far out flights are taken first because most people are booking those since they have time to plan their trip, etc. Only a few people book their flights within 14 days of flying so a lot of availability is there to snag up.
They have a handy chart here: flywith.virginatlantic.com/us/en/flying-club/airline-partners/all-nippon-airways/all-nippon-airways-spend-points.html. or you can google "virgin award chart for ana"
I'm looking at ANA's website and most all the flights say they aren't applicable to partner or star alliance rewards. Does that mean going through virgin, those flights still wouldn't be available to use my chase points?
You could always try and call Virgin to see if a flight listed as "aren't applicable to partner or star alliance rewards." is still able to book through them with Virgin points. But I would also suggest looking through United's website as well
Depends on how busy that specific flight is. From my experience they would release at least 1 award seat per day or couple days. So best case scenario is u can snag up 3 award seats in at least 3 days of looking
I never seem to be able to find availability for premium economy/business class on the United website, even trying the latest date I can possibly book. Any tips for finding these flights? Thanks for the great video!
@@Jessmyw TBH those are still hard to get because a lot of people are tryna look at the same time. The higher probability is waiting 14 days or so before your intended travel date. Although that is hard because a lot of people don't like waiting or cant wait until the last minute to book.
It's IMPOSSIBLE to get premium, business seat on ANA with points... I have more than 100,000 points with ANA and have not been able to use them unless I fly Economy...
its hard. I understand your pain. unfortunately it's a part of the "game" of using points and miles. There has to be some sort of barrier or else it would be too easy.

@@etaps73 I believe ANA cut back on the room routes from LAX. There should be more available from SFO. But either way, if it doesn't say individual suite or the room then it wont be the flight that you are looking for
But aren’t you comparing 35K in virgin atlantic, which is an economy class seat vs United 90K for Business. 70k through VA is less so thank you for the tip but the cc conversion would be a closer difference
The 70K on virgin is round trip so half of that would be 35K for a one way redemption. In his vlog though it showed the price of one way being about 1000 dollars. Subtract the taxes and fees he paid and it was roughly a 3.2cpp redemption. Still great value but not the inflated price he was making it seem like.
Good question but like Ryan said it is 70k for business class roundtrip with virgin atlantic. So for a one way business class flight it would be half that amount (35k). Also I found that ANA one way business class flights on average are over $2,000 from Honolulu to Tokyo. In the video I mentioned that the cash price I was seeing at the time of booking ($11,300) was wayyy more expensive that usual. That's why I calculated the CPP of both using a conservative $2,000 ticket price with the $11,300 ticket price that I saw as well.
@@ChaseYokoyama didn’t mean to try and knock you down, or else I wouldn’t have watched. Being in Honolulu I bet there is much more availability than other more frequented airports like SFO or JFK. And like I said, even at the MOST conservative rates, it’s still a great redemption. I think that’s the key point here
@@ryanrodriguez5293 no need to apologize. I appreciate the comment because I surely dont know everything and wouldnt even consider myself an "expert". And yes availability from HNL is usually much better
I can see the economy but havent been able to find a single date that has Business even as an option, looking a week ahead and 355 days ahead. Did ANA get rid of this? LAX -> HND
the 35,000 is business class but just one way. If you are referring to the screenshot of the award chart that I showed in the video theres the biz class column with 70,000. That 70,000 is for a roundtrip while one way would be half of that : 35,000. Then when I transferred my Chase points to Virgin, there was a 30% transfer bonus. thats how I turned 27,000 chase points to 35,100 virgin points
the flight route, flight date, and time that you are searching are all variables that will change the price. Also keep in mind that I booked on Virgin which cost less than what you see on United's website.
This video is kind of misleading. Of course you can get that cheap fare if you are already half way to Japan! I can never get VA to get me any awards from DFW to Japan!
yes thats true its cheaper flying from Hawaii, for central USA its about 47,500 points one way. which is still good value considering elsewhere you will pay at least twice that amount.
Hi Chase thanks for this informative video. One questions how are you able to determine that the flight is going to be a business class when in the Virgin Atlantic chart the 35000 points is pertaining to Economy. Thanks!
I should have explained it better but the Virgin chart shows the roundtrip total. So for one way tickets, you half whatever value you see there. That's why my one way business class flight was 35,000 instead of the full 70,000 for round trip

What portal would you use instead of United to fly Ana from the UK?
I found that United usually shows other partner airlines so you can try ANA. However right now I just checked and award availability from LHR to HND is pretty tight and there are waitlists.
I don't see any ANA flights on Virgin Altantic website. Going IAD to HND. Tried in Jan to May. Showed nothing. Only partner airline available is Delta.
you'd have to find ANA availability on United's website. the Virgin website won't show ANA flights unfortunately.
How an SKY TEAM airline like virgin allow you to transfer miles to a STAR ALLIANCE airline like ANA
it just seems to be a special partnership
how about for Korean airlines. So I can see the Nippon Airways flight in United air. How do I check the roundtrip value for Korean air? I looked everywhere to see if I can find Virgin airlines miles to travel to ICN - Seoul from LAX. I could not find any. Please kindly help
for Korean Airlines you'd have to look directly on Virgin Atlantics website and hopefully find availability there
Hello Chase,
When you booked your flight through Virgin, did you have to book a round-trip or could you book just a one-way? If I remember correctly, I believe that they require a round-trip booking as well, but correct me if I am wrong.
I think Virgin allows one way and booking through ANA directly is round trip
Booking through Virgin you can choose just a one way 👍🏽
Ok I’m so confused on what seats qualify for the rewards! Only the seats indicate with (I) ? Or any business class seat? Thanks!
You can book any business class seat (no matter the letter) as long as it shows it is available to be purchased using points / miles.
@@ChaseYokoyamaok wow! That’s why I’m so confused because most videos state that only class (I) is an award flight thanks!
Instead of chase points, I have Amex points. Can I use Amex points to transfer to VA points, then book Ana?
Heck ya!
So your partner can send her Chase points to her virgin account. then she can transfer her virgin points from her account to your virgin account within Virgin. flywith.virginatlantic.com/us/en/flying-club/spend-points/transfer-points.html
Of course if you want to be safe you can test it with the minimum amount of points to transfer which is 1,000.
How do you know if the flight from United is award flight?
Trying to go to japan next month, doesnt seem to have any opening. Is it like this for the rest of the year usually?
I would suggest checking again when ur trip is around 2 weeks out. More availability usually opens up the closer it is to the flight date
@@ChaseYokoyama i’ve been looking pretty often from nyc to HND and it’s been barren for business especially with virgin atlantic opportunities
I am not able to find any ANA flights on Air Canada or United’s website!
try different dates and also airports. I know ANA doesn't fly out of all states.
I can never find any rewards availability from LAX to NRT or HND
have you checked within 14 days or so of the intended flight date?
How do you know how much Points ANA is charging through virgin?
They have a handy chart here: flywith.virginatlantic.com/us/en/flying-club/airline-partners/all-nippon-airways/all-nippon-airways-spend-points.html. or you can google "virgin award chart for ana"
I'm looking at ANA's website and most all the flights say they aren't applicable to partner or star alliance rewards. Does that mean going through virgin, those flights still wouldn't be available to use my chase points?
You could always try and call Virgin to see if a flight listed as "aren't applicable to partner or star alliance rewards." is still able to book through them with Virgin points. But I would also suggest looking through United's website as well
how far out do you book? I live in Nyc and i wanted to travel in 2024 to japan and seoul as a stop over
so far the 4 times I looked it was about a week out.
does not seem like we can find available seats on ANA these days
if you know when to look for normally the release a bunch 1 yr out then the rest 2 weeks out
Does Ana usually release more than 2 award seats either when it opens up or within 7 days?
I'm looking to find 3 spots for my family to visit Tokyo 😎
Depends on how busy that specific flight is. From my experience they would release at least 1 award seat per day or couple days. So best case scenario is u can snag up 3 award seats in at least 3 days of looking
I never seem to be able to find availability for premium economy/business class on the United website, even trying the latest date I can possibly book. Any tips for finding these flights? Thanks for the great video!
"latest date" as in the flight date is within 14 days of the day that you are looking on the website?
@@ChaseYokoyama as in the farthest out I can book, usually 300+ days out
@@Jessmyw TBH those are still hard to get because a lot of people are tryna look at the same time. The higher probability is waiting 14 days or so before your intended travel date. Although that is hard because a lot of people don't like waiting or cant wait until the last minute to book.
Ana never has seats out of IAH
It's IMPOSSIBLE to get premium, business seat on ANA with points... I have more than 100,000 points with ANA and have not been able to use them unless I fly Economy...
its hard. I understand your pain. unfortunately it's a part of the "game" of using points and miles. There has to be some sort of barrier or else it would be too easy.
All the Airline & Hotel Brands believe in Polygamy with multiple partners 😂Loved this break-down on your redemption Chase- it's cool to see first-hand examples of putting CC points to work for high value!
hahah thank you Matt 😂 hopefully I can do more like this one
How do you know if you are booking “the room” with ANA?
if you look for the same exact flight on ANA or Google Flights you will see it labeled as "Individual Suite" or ANA will say its "The Room".
@@ChaseYokoyama ahh! Thank you. I’m shopping for ANA BC flights March 2025 from LAX. It doesn’t say if it’s The Room or not.
LAX -> HND
i dont think they got rid of it. Unfortunately it would just be an availability issue.
Clicked because of the logo
i hope the video was helpful!
wow can you just book my japan flights from here on out
if u take me with you
I dont see SFO TYO even a year from now..
ya the year plus dates go pretty much as soon as they are released. youd have better luck looking a week out unfortunately
Isn't that 35000 points only for economy class? So it's not 27000 points + $135 for business class, or did I miss something?
the 35,000 is business class but just one way.
I see, thank you so much! I was confused and watched that screenshot segment like 5 times.....😅@@ChaseYokoyama
How is he finding these flights for low miles? I keep finding flights for over 200k miles 😭😭😭
the flight route, flight date, and time that you are searching are all variables that will change the price. Also keep in mind that I booked on Virgin which cost less than what you see on United's website.
Now I need another card sign up bonus to return home lol
lmao 😆 go get that SUB
Are you hawaiian?
I am from Hawaii but not Hawaiian (ethnicity)
This video is kind of misleading. Of course you can get that cheap fare if you are already half way to Japan! I can never get VA to get me any awards from DFW to Japan!
yes thats true its cheaper flying from Hawaii, for central USA its about 47,500 points one way. which is still good value considering elsewhere you will pay at least twice that amount.
holy shit bro get to the point
Hi Chase thanks for this informative video. One questions how are you able to determine that the flight is going to be a business class when in the Virgin Atlantic chart the 35000 points is pertaining to Economy. Thanks!
I should have explained it better but the Virgin chart shows the roundtrip total. So for one way tickets, you half whatever value you see there. That's why my one way business class flight was 35,000 instead of the full 70,000 for round trip
