The tone, the drums, the riffs, the blues, the everything. Rob’s always created incredible guitar sounds, but I’ll never forget being 17 years old leaving circuit city with IOR and jamming it at full volume in the car in the parking lot from front to back. Implements of Destruction is STILL my go-to when I’m around non-metal heads that give me music privileges for a song. It’s also really good money spent at a jukebox. 13 minutes for .50 cents? Take my goddamn money.
I've been playing guitar for 15 years. Rob, I gotta say that your sound and chimaira helped shaped my sound and how I play. Sad as fuck to not hear new music but grateful you have a UA-cam channel. So, basically I just wanted to say thank you for being a huge influence on me. But most importantly, being a sick ass guitar player.
Those riffs from impossibility of reason got me to stop playing around with my guitar and got me serious about it when i was a teen. For me chimaira and Rob's playing was the most inspiring thing ever. I remember jamming the album on repeat always trying to nail all my favorite songs shit was my after school ritual. Thanks for the great music im not the best at guitar but i learned a lot of cool shit from you. 🤘🤘
Yep, me too. From that point and listening to Machine Head's Burn My Eyes, I started taking riffing seriously. Rob Arnold is just a monster when it comes to riffing.
Man those riffs just take me back to every Chimaira show I went to over the years. We would stand gripping the guard rail on the front row waiting for Chimaira to play. It was like being on another planet as you guys ripped through song after song. I truly lost my mind every single time and when it was over, just sat in a state of disbelief of what I had just witnessed. Best times ever.
Whatever reason anyone can give why those riffs arent being heard live around the world in front of thousands of people.......it aint good enough. Chimara deserves to live!
I remember meeting you after a show in 09. I straight up asked if this was all you used, because I couldn’t believe it. And you were like “Yup check it out!“ and brought your whole rig over. I was floored haha 🤘
How did this barely come across my feed. I remember when I was a young, new, and broke AF drummer and yet the main person I always watched when my brother and I rocked out to chimaira was Rob Arnold. I remember always telling myself I want to learn guitar and play like him. Thanks for all the years of amazing music Rob. Love your riffs man. I was literally just blasting chimaira in my car at the car wash last night. Lol
Haha that's awesome Bryan! I never thought I'd be a dude that other dudes wanted to play like. 🙏 Cheers and please explore my channel as there's a TON of stuff here I know you'll love!🤘
I had the same set up over here in Oz for a while and I just felt it was missing ‘something’. I saw that a few bands with 6505’s were using Maxon 808 OD pedals in the chain so I went out and bought one and never looked back. The subtle increase in the sounds of attack on palm muted strings was simply superb. Love the content mate, been into you guys for 16yrs, hoping Chimaira makes a comeback sometime soon 🤘🤘

Mark just filled in for Randy on a Lamb of God show, so far the only vocalist to rock the stage.. I NEED CHIMAIRA BACK!!!!! you guys are my absolute fav band.
I’ve been messing with my rig, going through Krankenstein cabs, VHT cabs, PRS heads, Peavey JSX head, and I finally landed on the classic Oversized Mesa Boogie 4x12 with a made in the USA Peavey 6505. It doesn’t get better!
The resonance helps to tighten the low end up a little and enhance it somewhat too. Not as much as an OD pedal up front, but it does help for sure. At least, it helped mine out that way with my past 2 6505’s. Great vid Rob. You’re an inspiration, keep them coming good Sir.x
I like the approach you and Matt have with one of you covering the mid range and the other making the scooped mids. I've always liked the approach of having complimentary guitar tones, not identical ones for 2-guitarist bands. Such as simple way to differentiate yourselves despite running nearly identical rigs.
I feel like I'm watching a video with the equipment and music from 10-15 years ago with modern day production. The 6505 was my first tube amp and was a total workhorse - this was a quintessential "Guitar World Magazine" rig back in the day! Thanks for the video and the nostalgia, Rob!
God, I remember buying my first ESP, tuning to Drop C, and learning all those riffs you were playing. I still play Cleansation & Powertrip to this day. Awesome work Rob, Chimaira will always be one of my fave bands!
I was so pleased when I came across this video, I've recently got hold of a 6505 after my rig went down right before a gig the other night. I searched "peavey 6505 crunch tones" and this video came up. I've been banging on for years how the impossibility of reason has my absolute favorite guitar tone (also why I fell in love with drop C) and now I've found a video showing me exactly how to get it with the equipment I actually own! It's worth the stress of the old rig dying ;)
The same setup I also used playing in bands back in the day. What was great about the 6505 was unlike most amps of today, sounded great without an overdrive. Thanks for your insight Rob 🤘
Rob Arnold you need to try the horizon devices precision drive. I have it in front on my 5150 it tightens up the low end and makes it more angry. Plus it has a built in gate.
Man, what I wouldn't give to jam with this guy! Chimaira has been such a huge inspiration on durring my 20 years of playing guitar. Caught many new years eve shows too!
Awesome. I’ve got a Peavey 6505 plus going into a Mesa 2x12 v30 and the tone is so heavy. One of my favorite albums, The Impossibility of Reason. Love the vids. Thanks for showing.
Love my 6505+. It's quickly becoming my most played larger amp. Interesting you don't use a boost. Love the tone and can't wait to give your settings a test drive on my rig at home. Thanks Rob!
You know what, your guitar sound and overall Chimaira's sound quality is a masterpice. Especially on Resurrection album, so it is my reference record when I check some new Hi-Fi gear. Big respect for that. You guys are truly legends. Hope to see you live someday.
Rob Arnold 1. In the description: “what we in Chimaira use to...” 2. At 2:12 you say “Chimaira, my band has been using...” If you guys comeback, I will be the first in the PNW to welcome you guys back!
Ive been on a hunt for a new amp and I’ve been coming back to this video for over a week now. I finally did it, I ordered a Peavy 6505 and it should be here in two days. Thanks Rob!
I got a 6505 mh and I fucking love it. I need to replace the tubes, but the tones I get are amazing! I run a Maxon OD-9 and an NS-2 on the front, and an MXR 10-band EQ in the loop. LOVE IT!
This is very cool to me dude. I learned all the songs of Impossible, a few off Resurrection and a bunch of infection. I tried for quite a long time to mimic your sound. After years I finally got it using a Line 6 Crunchtone with a Peavy Bandit 112 and EMG pickups. You were always a big inspiration and always wrote killer riffs that were challenging and fun to play. Now I'm old.
Glad to see this dudes still jammin. I listen to chimaira all the time still, but Christmas just hasn't been the same since they haven't been active 😥. THANKS FOR THE VID ROB!!!!
🤘😈🤘love the amps. I remember when the first 5150 from Peavey came out in the 90’s. I had the 5150 combo sounded sick, if I remember it was like 60 watts. All those Peavey amps are killer🔥🔥🔥
I'll start by saying I'm not a guitar player. I'm not even a musician. I am however a huge music fan with an ear for the finer points in music. Impossibility of Reason is one of the metal albums ever. No song is even a little bad to me. All sonically perfect to my ears but I came here to say on this 4 year old video that the explanation of what you're trying to listen for on each knob and how you dial in your amps I understood perfectly. You're great at playing guitar but equally as great a teacher. Chimaira and you are underrated musicians and hope to be able to see your faces out on the road in the near future! The May shows in Cleveland were out of sight! 🤘
Hey I really appreciate hearing all that man! 👊 I do try and make these videos for the non-players to hopefully enjoy as well. So it's nice to hear that you dug it! Awesome that you made it out last May as well! Cheers!🤘
On the 6505 my go to is Pre: 3.5-4 Low:6.3 (slightly past the 6 mark) Mid:6.5 High:6 Res:6-7 (deepening on volume, room, and tuning) Pres: 5-6 (depends on the previous factors similar to resonance) Boosting with an SD-1 and using passive Duncans in A#/drop G# through a Carvin 4x12 with 75s
Great vid Rob !... this clears up a lot of questions I've had about metal guitar tones...I remember seeing Chimaira at the Vic theater in Chicago with Soilwork and InFlames...killer show
Hi good job For the best Rob Arnold Is A Example For Everything New Guitars And For the years never lost the talent you are brutality Cheers For Costa Rica My Favorite Band Chimaire No Died...
I never get tired of watching this video, and Rob I’m beyond excited I finally got my 6505+ head and a good deal on Mesa recto oversized standard cab loaded with V 30’s!!!!!! Sorry just had to share this can barely contain the excitement!
Rob, I put JJ tubes in my 6505+. Ive experimented with almost every brand possible. I believe it came stock with Ruby tubes, but don’t quote me on that, ive changed em so many times i cant remember lol but the JJs had a hint of vintage warmth to an already screaming hot amp i think its the perfect balance, especially for leads. I remember using super high gain Tung Sol’s but it was overkill for sure. I use a front loaded Vai Legacy cab too so i needed the warmth. Great video!
Hey Rob! Derek here from Rock Solid Amps way back in the day! Glad to see your still doing what you love most! Keep it up hope to meet up with you again someday!
Bought one of these for xmas with a blackstar 4x12 loaded with v30s, threw an emg81 into my strat, been waiting for a perfect demo like this to help me out
I've seen this exact standard multiple times to great effect. Don't know who was first but you'll find it everywhere when you notice EMG 81 5150/6505 MESA OVERSIZED 4X12 Optional seasoning : Maxon OD 808/Tubescreamer
@@RobArnoldWorld Ah! Thanks Rob. Now I know that a $400 purchase for a used amp will give the ability to "LET FREEDOM RING WITH(out the inclusion of) A SHOTGUN BLAST"
This is really helpful for people like me who don't have a great deal of knowledge or gear. Im going dor this sort of tone using ML studios which are based on Peavey amps and this helped alot. Thanks

6505 or 6505+? 6505's need a boost sometimes due to their much flubbier low end. The + version is much tighter.

🤘😈🤘love the amps. I remember when the first 5150 from Peavey came out in the 90’s. I had the 5150 combo sounded sick, if I remember it was like 60 watts. All those Peavey amps are killer🔥🔥🔥
Man I've been trying to figure out that pattern for Pure Hatred for a while. Glad to hear it isolated!
Classic set up with the 6505 and Mesa! That ISP decimator is an absolutely great noise gate, as well!
Chimaira headlining at the croc rock in Allentown what an awesome show🔥
Aaaaaah.. Those riffs i grew up with. Awesome!
I do try and make these videos for the non-players to hopefully enjoy as well. So it's nice to hear that you dug it!
Awesome that you made it out last May as well! Cheers!🤘
Resonance is basically a low end control on your power section. Presence adds in some of those Air frequencies into your power section.
Thanks Andrew!
Man I grew up with Chimaira and I miss this band so often..
This is it! The one we've been waiting bois! The perfection in one single video! Thank you, Rob, for putting your heart out for us! \m/
👊😎🤘
OMG !! My dream comes true ! All my favorites riffs, and how sounds well for it ! I play them every day !
Thanks a lot Rob 🙏👌🤘
🤘
Thanks Rob!! Cheers from Spain
🍻
On the 6505 my go to is
Pre: 3.5-4
Low:6.3 (slightly past the 6 mark)
Mid:6.5
High:6
Res:6-7 (deepening on volume, room, and tuning)
Pres: 5-6 (depends on the previous factors similar to resonance)
Boosting with an SD-1 and using passive Duncans in A#/drop G# through a Carvin 4x12 with 75s
🤘
I never get tired of watching this video, and Rob I’m beyond excited I finally got my 6505+ head and a good deal on Mesa recto oversized standard cab loaded with V 30’s!!!!!! Sorry just had to share this can barely contain the excitement!
Badass! I know the feeling! New gear is THE BEST! Rock on bro!🤘
You're really awesome Rob!! Thanks so much for such a great informative and honest video! I've been a huge fan for years now!!! Cheers man!!!
My favorite metal amp - Peavey 6505+ is the ultimate.
Love the tone and the riffs SO MMMMUUUCCCHH, Rob!!! All hail Chimaira! \m/
I love that tone dude 🤘 in my 20s i tried so hard to chase that tone with like a super poor mans budget lol u guys were great inspiration!!
Thanks Chris!🎸
Your Band is awesome! I have been a fan since I was in high school.
You are king. You are my idol and I'm so happy you did this video!
👊
Hey Rob! Derek here from Rock Solid Amps way back in the day! Glad to see your still doing what you love most! Keep it up hope to meet up with you again someday!
What's up Derek! Good to hear from you man! Cheers and hope you're well man!👊
Always love getting the new vid notification from Rob Arnold World!!! Another great one Rob!! 🤘🏼🤨
👊
My rig was a mesa oversized cab with a 6505+ too. Guess who I borrowed the idea from??
One of the best bands ever
Bought one of these for xmas with a blackstar 4x12 loaded with v30s, threw an emg81 into my strat, been waiting for a perfect demo like this to help me out
Sweet! Hope it helped!🤘
when I grow up I want to have a tone like that
They come with 6l6 Ruby tubes. I've had mine since 2005 and changed them out to 6l6 JJ tubes..They sound great! 🤘🇺🇸🤘...
I've seen this exact standard multiple times to great effect. Don't know who was first but you'll find it everywhere when you notice
EMG 81
5150/6505
MESA OVERSIZED 4X12
Optional seasoning : Maxon OD 808/Tubescreamer
As far as I know, Machine Head were the pioneers!
Thanks
2020 and dropping a Chimaira video!? FUCK YES I dig it! I remember jamming out to these guys in jr high! 🤘
Glad you showed that picture of Tony, guy is a wizard! Worked with him at Spiders when you guys were working on impossibility, Love Chimaira. Love that record, still jam it on the regular! Great stuff man!!
Awesome! I still see Tony now and then!
I miss Chimaira so much
