Stereolab: yes, I had heard of them previously; no, I don't think I've ever heard any of their songs, but my gosh, the sound of both songs was somehow vaguely familiar to me. I wonder if any of their music has been incorporated into film or television soundtracks somewhere along the way, that might be an explanation? I liked that very much Alex, thank you!

Your first reactions after hearing Ghost Love Score and Storytime was “amazing”. Therefore please react to Ayreon with Amazing Flight live with an introduction of Q (Star Treck) and with Arjan as the hippy.

Yes! You absolute beauties! Not difficult to see why you love Stereolab Alex, probably for similar reasons I do, and why we both love Hawkwind. Bass and drums laying down a solid melodic rhythm and the rest of the band going slightly bonkers over the top. "Jenny Ondioline" is a personal favourite track, another one with an extended version that goes on for *quite* some time but just never gets old.
As Krautrock goes they're very reminiscent of Neu! to my ear. They're someone you might want to slide into the schedule. If you want to go for a more direct Hawkwind connection though, Amon Duul II featured the guy Lemmy replaced in Hawkwind, Dave Anderson, at least on the first album of theirs I heard "Yeti". The track "Archangels Thunderbird" is a belter.

Hey was just flipping through the various videos and came across Larry Gowan playing Good Golly Miss Golly
Type in Ronnie Hawkins live at Massy Hall to celebrate his 60th Birthday. It’s a whose who of rock with a Canadian flavor. Features Jeff Healy Gerry Lee Lewis. Carl Perkins Levon helm Watching it I got drawn back into the origins of rock and roll
Not looking for you to play any tune just sending you a reference point you can watch a great concert. This is for you guys for Alec
Fun watching Jerry Lee Lewis trying to keep up Jeff Healey with a big smile I think you would enjoy if you have already watched would love to hear reaction.

Great video guys. I'm a little torn on this one, I loved the music on both tracks, it's still a current sound, but back then it would have been cutting edge. However, I think this is a band that I could only listen to on their records, I couldn't sit through an hour of them on stage. In both performances they looked like they were depressed and little to no fun was being had by them. I wonder if it is part of their schtick, to look like they had loaded up on downers prior to taking the stage, or whether they are just generally so cool, that they don't feel that they need to engage the audience?
Also, great spot George on seeing the gladiator dancing in the opening song. I had to look twice because at first, I thought it was Alex. But then I realized that it couldn't be, Alex is more a Toga, sandals and olive leaf head wreath kinda guy.

Stereolab were quite nonchalant in their live performances. they never really created stage personas and relied mostly on the stage interaction’s by Mary Hansen who unfortunately passed in 2002. she was often lauded as the heart of the band (you can even tell here just by the mod 60s style and Twiggy like appearance that she shone beyond the rest of her band members)
saw them in 2019/2022 and i can say it felt nothing short of a celebration of their massive catalogue and music. everybody on stage seemed full of love and passion for the band, and meeting them/speaking to them showed just how much they enjoyed what they do. really great band, on and off stage

Interesting stuff. I’d never heard them play before; I’m not even 100% sure if I’d heard the band name, but it sounds familiar.
These tracks sounded like I’d potentially like the studio versions more, not sure why I get that feeling, though.
I definitely felt the first track would’ve been perfect for the soundtrack of an indie movie or a Guy Ritchie gangster flick when he’s doing a really stylised visual sequence.

New to me, and I will be taking a deeper dive. Parts reminded me of Moon safari by Air that I haven't listened to for quite some time. So as I am home all day today this will be my soundtrack to the day. Great to hear something new to me.

That's disco? Haha, more like a cross of punk and pop, but I liked it, although I like the second one better, it did sound more avant garde. Thanks for introducing them guys. 😘👌

Unfortunately Mary Hansen who was guitarist and backing vocalist with the group was killed by a lorry while she was out riding her bicycle in December 2002, Stereolab were very much underappreciated but not by me,

I can't believe somebody let Alex be in charge...
I would definitely say they are avant-garde for 1990. Not my style of music, but certainly very good at what they do. That being said, I don't mind seeing stuff like this from time to time. As well as your reactions to it. You should try new kinds of music because you don't know until you listen.

@@TheThamesmen I would point out the example of Aurora - My Blood as a reason I continue to check this stuff out. Absolutely not my genre of music, but something about the way she sings that song makes me keep going back. And playing it on repeat at least 3 times.
If I hadn't given it a shot I would have never found that song.
