@@alsamuef bands are like weird little families. my respect goes out to any band who recognizes the integrity of a particular member and doesn't replace them (even though i'm more partial to the fugazi method of just breaking up if all the original members aren't on board).
I miss Mary so much. She was there the first few times I saw the band and it's still hard to listen to the songs she was on without her. Still miss her even on songs she didn't sing on the albums. Added so much to the sound.
He's such a machine. I had a whole, new respect for Andy after seeing them for the first time on tour for Dots and Loops. Looking forward to seeing them soon with Bitchin Bajas!
You know, it's his drumming on Dots and Loops that brought me here. I'm surprised so little of him on the web; he's terribly under-rated / unknown for all his talent.
Such a great band! I saw them live and interviewed them for a newspaper in around 1997... And they signed my «Switched On» LP in a very special way: I kept the record in a thick plastic sleeve and they painted a big psychedelic picture on the protection sleeve that suited the cover below... Of course I still have it. :-)
Saw them about 2 decades earlier when Mary was still with them. Loved her voice. Still a great band. They took Krautrock , Brazilian 60s pop and created something new and beautiful.
I love how they are not ashamed of replacing a Minimoog or Voyager with a Korg Minilogue, or substituting the glorious Vox Continental with a cheap Yamaha Reface YC. They are beyond phony nostalgia, they are the real shit. And makes practical sense too, since vintage analog instruments are not very reliable (I remember an interview where they complain about the Vox Jaguar for example).
Could be they are put off by how costly it is to insure their vintage synths for the road. But yeah, I agree there is a lot of integrity and coolness in going on stage with cheap equipment and making it sound great :)
Pure adoration and joy! It's impossible to feel depressed listening to this sonic beauty. They make a sweet, soft paradise of sound and colors in my head.
Strangest thing with stereolab music is that i can visualize instances and dreams. Thank you for all these masterpieces and life soundtracks. Hope you will visit Athens, Greece sometime soon.
One of my ever favourite bands. Love French and Spanish bands. Stereolab being my favourite. I suppose the love of Serge Gainsbourg and all the beautiful accents help. Love from 🏴 Scotland
I really hope the groop makes a comeback! I discovered Stereolab back in 2006 and was happy when Chemical Chords came out. It would be kick ass to hear new works🤘
Excellent sound here from my long-time embraced band. Listen to how clearly, in this outdoor environment, the voices are miked. Thanks for touring, Stereolab. Hopefully, I can catch you on your mid-atlantic east-coast drop-ins.
This is tighter and better than they ever did it live back in the 90s. Tim and Andy are all over Laetitia’s vocals though still at times unsteady are the best she has ever performed. This is not a pumpkin style nostalgia reunion. They have come to kick ass. And for this home town crowd of sorts in Chicago, this helps make up for the final (HORRIBLE Post sound-dust years) of recording.
It's Friday, I'm working from home waiting for the day it's actually safe to go out and back to normal and I'm tearing up listening to Stereolab and remembering seeing live many long years ago. Thanks for uploading this. Made my day.
This is so awesome. Beautifully shot/edited. Wonderful sound - better than being there live! Band sounded great and excellent song selection for a 40 minute set.
I agree. Their best albums were with Mary...On the The High Llamas' Snowbug album the best tracks were those that featured the Laetitia-Mary harmonies...
I'll be seeing them a week before in Poland (OFF festival). And hopefully the weather will be far less problematic in both Katowice and Helsinki than it was in Chicago.
12:28 A guitarists horror, when your fx chain breaks down 10 minutes into the set. Finishing the song while troubleshooting live on stage, 18:43 swapping amps, 20:10 excluding elements from the chain, cables, 20:41 ruling out instrument. Stressful. After Tim ruled everything but his stompbox chain out, 22:03 he then choose to bypass fx and he is back. Then at 30:57 for example use the amps means of manipulating sound. Reverb, EQ, Tremolo (maybe). Goes to show what an awesome guitarist he is!
I think by not replacing Mary it's their way of reminding us that's she's no longer there and could never be replaced. Bravo Stereolab.
She's certainly irreplaceable. I can hear her.
But she can be replaced. Move on

when i listen to stereolab the world is a much cooler place
The stamina to play the Percolator baseline is so incredible
Chris Segura the bassist has to be a metalhead right? lol.
@@corm88As a former bassist, my left hand is cramping just by watching.
Yes- I saw them about 10 times in London in the 90s and I don't remember them ever playing it this fast.
Oh for a loop pedal.
Not really
If he had to do a lot of left hand shifting or one sided picking, sure. But it's pretty simple.
RIP Mary.
Who is Mary I wanna know

@@DonOblivious I remember Stereolab before Mary joined with Andy.
She was a GOOD guitarist too man
Laetitia rocking the $1 promotional plastic aviators on stage like an absolute boss. She is so damn cool.
French Disko is still one of the most fire tracks ever created.
I still don’t get the appeal of that song.. I hope it’ll grow on me eventually.

Still the coolest band around!
Laetitia is the epitome of effortlessly cool.
2019 and beyond... needs more Stereolab!!! Mary... we still miss you!
Kudos to the guys for those backing vocals. It's not easy!
they must feel a dark sad twinge every time they have to sing Mary's lines...
Stellar set, incredible drumming.
Yah, really is. Stereolab is really tightening the screws. I saw some videos of earlier shows in the tour and it sounded loose.
He's such a machine. I had a whole, new respect for Andy after seeing them for the first time on tour for Dots and Loops. Looking forward to seeing them soon with Bitchin Bajas!
He's a metronome
Underrated
yeah he's a beast on the drums! funky when he needs to be too!

I came to stereolab quite late at about 35 - fully in love with them now. Phenomenal and universal sound.

Pics!
Do you have a picture of the record?
If i had one wish i would love to see them live back in that day!
I would absolutely Love to see that interview. I hope you still have a copy or recording you can share.
So awesome to listen to Dots and Loops songs live! Amazing!
Saw them about 2 decades earlier when Mary was still with them. Loved her voice. Still a great band. They took Krautrock , Brazilian 60s pop and created something new and beautiful.
Infinity Girl is a perfect pop song, and they do it great justice in this performance.
Yes.. Mary still is in my ears when hearing this song.. maybe somewhere, sometime.. meantime Stereolab live rocks!!!

was thinking the same thing
Luciano Notarfrancesco I have a Vox Jag & its a very frustrating instrument.
Vintage keyboards make more of a difference in a studio, versus a gig where the sound will never be perfect.
Could be they are put off by how costly it is to insure their vintage synths for the road. But yeah, I agree there is a lot of integrity and coolness in going on stage with cheap equipment and making it sound great :)
Laetita don't give a fuck bout no microkeys

I’m so happy they’re back, but there’s a Mary Hansen shaped hole in their sound. I wish they’d found a second singer for the harmonies.

I agree. Their best albums were with Mary...On the The High Llamas' Snowbug album the best tracks were those that featured the Laetitia-Mary harmonies...
@@dariusmendoza880 Also Laetitia is not a very steady live vocalist and Mary definitely was a rock during live performances.
Perhaps they will bring on a back up for remainder of headline tour...SO many talented singers that would do anything to perform with them.
They have the boys doing back up, and quite well, especially on miss modular!
