Doug E Rapps is the shit!! I love his playing. Sometimes his playing reminds me of Ty Tabor of Kings X. Tasty blues, heavy-ass riffage, and just a kickass attitude! He is one of the tops in my book.
Thank you, Doug Rappaport, for saying those nice things about Dave Friedman and his commitment,to top quality. I have a Smallbox, it embodies what I wanted at the time I bought it, more of a vintage tone vibe to it than a B.E.,and a tighter bottom than a Dirty Shirley, it's still making me very happy. I always open up anything I buy about ten minutes after I get home, and when I looked inside I saw neatness, twisted pairs galore and some very expensive capacitors and great transformers. It is the closest to a Hiwatt, in the way it is built of any of the other amps I've seen the inside of and when I hear guys make comments like Friedmans aren't hand wired because they use a circuit board for their effects loop and don't understand what a turret board is or who used them for their legendary amps, it angers me. I've experienced Dave's customer service, and I always mention the Friedman quality is if anything underrated. Everybody thinks of Friedman amps as overdogs because of their price and popularity, but they overlook the build quality.Tha k you for reinforcing what I believed all along, people will respect your opinion, they don't know me,and might just slag off when I say they are quality through and through ...
Doug is the undisputed king of bad-ass bluesy rock playing, great to have him here. Btw, Joey I see that you are a bit concerned about your Les Paul getting out of tune. I've played a Les Paul custom for 10 years, it drove me mad. Thanks to Doug, I switched to a Knaggs and never looked back(Even though he did look back :)). PRS Mccarthy is another option where these design flaws are eliminated and have killer tone. I prefer even S2 Mccarthys to Les Pauls, and I really do not want to start a debate, just a friendly advice.
Hands down my favourite player, great stuff!
Xcellent interview - Joey & Doug - class act Big D!
Love both you guys. Great Interview.
