Man oh man, I just love the phrasing and timing of his solos, melodic and almost classic rock/familiar, yet completely fresh and new sounding. I've been playing guitar for 50 years now, and one of the best parts of my week is when I come her to be inspired. ❤ 👍
Doing major and minor chords with the third off the g string the opposite way to doing off the d is a great way to add openness too. So like third fret on the D and second fret on the G
Great. That's what is needed. One of my most favorite tunings. Sure we all know great masterpieces like "Black hole sun", "Walking in my shoes", "Right in two" showing what Drop D is capable for, but you are right, very often people really perceive it as an instrument for power cords only. Thank you for showing how melodic it can be. It would be great to watch similar story about Open C. "Burden in my hand" sounds incredibly, I got to improvise a bit in this tuning, but felt somehow limited... rather by my skills and knowledge.
Beautiful playing man! I use drop D a lot for those heavy style riffs, but incorporate a lot of melody and I guess, kind of unconventional sounding drop D riffs. But I occasionally play around on acoustic and utilise the droning aspect of it. Dropping the high E string to D also, gives an even darker sounding drone and opens up new chord options.
Beautiful sound, great shot video. Dsus4-Bb∆7/Bb∆9 Gonna hear some Overlong up in them 9ths. Instant Emo grungy EZPZ! Always fun playing acrosst a southpaw:-)
That guitar is dope. I like the junior with the humbucker thing it’s got goin on. What is it?
It is my signature model by Nik Huber, called the Nik Huber JJ. I'm going to do a video about it soon.

Great lesson Joey thanks for sharing!
No we are not using it wrong. There are just difterent ways of using it and one of the very best is for heavy riffs like Spoonman.
Agree. Love spoonman.
Great solo Mark!!
Sounding sick Joey! Thanks for sharing.

Dude, this is like total basics... I really can't believe that you did a 10 min clip about it. Total waste of time IMO
I watched a video about how to perfectly peel an egg. This was better
