    I've always considered micellar waters as a first step in a double cleanse. I've heard of people using it in the morning for a quick cleanse instead of washing their face with cleanser, but I personally would never rely on a micellar water to do that. I'm old fashioned, I suppose, LOL!

    I use micellar water to remove makeup as a first cleanse and then I use a gentle cleanser for final cleanse to remove the rest of my makeup. If I don't have makeup on I cleanse with micellar water just to refresh and do not rinse off. Bioderma or Garnier. I love the explanation of why micellar water works and what it is. Great video

    Another great video. Re alcohol, I read somewhere that if it's combined with the right ingredients it can be good for your skin. I don't claim to understand, don't know if it's true and have no idea what those right ingredients would be! So I avoid it anyway. Think it might make your migraines come back trying to explore that one 😨 but if you did ever feel you wanted to research and do a video on this, I'd find it fascinating.

    I used to first-cleanse with the pink Bioderma, followed by a soap-free facial cleanser. I have stopped using micellar waters and have switched to the Oil Cleansing Method as it's more economical. I would go through 5-7 cotton pads to get every spot of makeup off my face if I was using the Bioderma vs just just 4 pumps of cleansing oil and a thorough swipe with a small microfiber towel. Also, less cotton pads = less landfill waste.

    Great video !! I totally understand why some people don't like the feeling on the skin, I feel the same, and from what I read on micellar water and surfactants Inunderstand that the oil migrates to the center of the micelle and it stays on the ski if not rinsed off, hence the nasty feel on my skin, at least that's my conclusion from what I read and my experience. I don't mind as a first cleansing when I have little to no makeup but I never leave it on.

    I believe Caroline said regarding alcohol that cetyl alcohol is perfectly fine as it is used as a stabilizer. When regular alcohol is high on the list it is definitely a problem. I have heard this said by a two other dermatologists as well. I would Google dermatologist cetyl alcohol to look more into it.

    My main use of micellar water is to fix makeup mistakes, doing something intricate with the eyes, or I want to switch a color with pinpoint removal without removing everything. I do on occasion use micellar water as a first step for double cleansing. If makeup is especially stubborn, I might do a triple cleanse. Several layers of grease paint, powder, and mixing mediums can be difficult to remove. I think I heard Nadine Baggott talking about dryness on her skin (mainly around the eyes) and some others as a result of micellar water being left on the skin.

    Karen, as someone with sensitive skin i also avoid hard water at all cost. So i cleanse my face with only micellar water and spray some thermal spring water afterwards. This has saved me from dryness and further sensitivity.

    I don't use it as a morning cleanser, only as the first step cleanse at night so don't have this issue. Once I used it as a toner but it didn't make my skin feel very good. I have recently learnt not to use any cleanser in the morning and only use water to do morning facial cleaning even though I'm oily. It's hard but I think one reason our skin barriers become weak is over-cleanse.

  • @HereDiianas

    Hi again lol. Very often you say that your skin reacts better when you don't use water. I am wondering if you've ever tried using spring water on your face only. Maybe your skin does not like tap/hard water. I used to have acne and it STOPPED when I stopped using tap water. I now use spring water only . It's been 2 years now and still no acne, less oily skin, and more even skin tone :-)

      Thanks for watching Dianna :0) I live in a very soft water area, so I don't imagine its to do with that, but no I've never tried spring water - not really ever felt the need to because I enjoy cleansing without water - unlike in USA where people have tables etc in their bathrooms (I'm not sure if you are UK/US or somewhere different), we have small bathrooms, and my cleansing routine is done in the living room at family time :0) x

    I think it depends in General what the individual product you use says. Some day dont rinse it off, Otter ones way you definately should-Thats how i do that and i think that there is a 100% clean answer when it comes to that question. Same with Otter products-for example hair care-there are 1000 Different ones wich Are supposed to stay in your Haie and there ist the Same amputiert wich you have to rinse out :)

    Karen I use the Garnier 3 in 1 which is supposed to even remove waterproof mascara. but it doesnt. So I use it as a last cleanse. I won't be buying it again. Because it doesn't do as it says. But I do like the feel of my skin after I use it and i do wash it off but only with water. So I guess I rinse it off not wash it off lol. Why because I like the softness it leaves but I don't like it heavy on my skin before doing my night time routine. So I don't rinse it because of concerns about the ingredients only going by how my skin feels. I also always rinse any makeup remover I use. I had been experimenting with a few different ones including wipes. most make my eyes sting. So just tonight I have gone back to just using coconut oil to remove my makeup. I don't have a problem with it on my skin, it removes all my makeup and mascara without scrubbing and doesn't sting my eyes. So sometimes simple just works best. Hugs

    Karen, I recently bought the Garnier Micellar Water All-In-1 Mattifying and use it as a toner. I love how it gets any remaining oil off of my skin. Then I heard some saying they would avoid it due to the possible cancer connection to the ingredient PHMB. My question is: do you think if I start rinsing it off that I can eliminate or reduce the PHMB factor? Thanks

      Hi Connie, I did a whole video on PHMB funny enough. Rinsing it off would be better than not, but I wouldn't say it would eliminate any risk, only reduce it. x

    Love your channel! I think it's all marketing and Miceller water is the latest trend with all the drugstore companies coming out with them. I don't personally see the point of adding it to my beauty regime.
    I use Oil of Olay foaming face wash with an exfoliating washcloth and then go over my face w an Almay eye remover pad.
    Another trend is mineral waters like Vichy. What do you think of those? All hype?
    I bought a bottle on sale and I'm still not sold.
    I've actually been using rose water bought at the Indian store with a few drops of glycerine as a toner and setting spray and love it. You can add or subtract the glycerine.
    My problem is fine lines all over especially above my cheeks. I refuse to stop wearing highlighter in my late 40s! Your skin is amazing ! I'll have to study your videos on how to turn back the clock!

    I occasionally use Garnier Micellar water and if I use it straight before the shower It feels slippery and I can definitely tell there's residue. I live in London which is hard water and I tend to rinse it off

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick  7 років тому +1

      I'm curious, what is your issue with there being a residue? As with hair, should your skin really be "squeaky clean"? Does that not equal stripped skin that has had its natural oils removed? The residue could be the Glycerin that is used to prevent the surfactants damaging your skin, and gives some moisture, so then rinsing with hard water then removes that moisture plus disrupts the PH level of your skin. Just playing devils advocate as always and interested in the opinions of others :0) Say hello to my London for me, I miss it! x

    • @alexanderbonneck7187
      @alexanderbonneck7187 7 років тому

      It could be the glycerine! :) I just feel that since I started rinsing it off my eye-area has gotten less dry, but that could be due to a sensitivity issue to something in the product and not the product itself, I do love a quick cleanse in the morning (I tend to use micellar in the morning)
      Keep up the good work, your channel is great!

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick  7 років тому

      I'm afraid that isn't a question I could answer hun, as it just needs more questions - there are a few toners from clinique so it depends which one, but more importantly it would depend on your skin type and what you are trying to achieve and what other products you are using etc. However, both are generally good as Clinique don't add as much alcohol and fragrance as other brands :0)x

    Until this video, I'd never heard of or considered ever rinsing off micellar water, although I technically do. When cleansing my skin in the evening, I use Boscia Make-Up Break-Up oil first, and it takes off all my makeup except mascara and some eye liner. Next comes micellar water on a Shiseido pad for the eye makeup residue. Finally, Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel and Boscia Konjac sponge. The thing is, I use it to clean up eye shadow fallout, or if I'm totally tired, I skip the last part of my cleanse because the oil does remove everything. I don't wash off the micellar water, nor did it ever occur to me to do so. Whew! ;)

    I wear a lot of makeup so I wash my face with a cream type cleanser. I rinse, pat dry and then I wipe micellar water across my face to remove any last traces of foundation etc. I always rinse off the micellar water. Its a type of cleanser, so why would you leave cleanser on your face? Great video

    • @AudreyNataliaKosmar
      @AudreyNataliaKosmar 7 років тому +1

      +Tracy Howard i believe this whole video is answering your question :-) If you really want to 'rinse' it, don't use tap water, but instead use thermal spring water spray. I use this combination all the time for my rosacea-prone skin and my skin has never been better.

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick  7 років тому

      Thanks Audrey, and yes this video should have answered that question Tracy - it is a milder cleanser formulated to be left on skin. To an extent anyway. There is also the fact that even when you use face wash, the surfactants in it (cleansers) penetrate skin and can't be rinsed off. Micellar waters have Glycerin in them generally, which protects the skin from the surfactants penetrating so easily and deeply. If you wash your micellar water off, you are potentially washing off the glycerin that is good for your skin (is it really good to have squeaky clean skin thus stripping the natural oils?) but more importantly you are affecting the PH of your skin negatively by using water. Hope that helps. Thermal spring water spray is a perfect solution, assuming it has a good PH (worth testing to make sure). x

    Hi I watched your videos about oils for skin and I was wondering if you feel the same for hair. Do you think that most oils for hair or oils used in deep conditioners or directly on the hair etc are not really useful as they do not last for long? Thanks!

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick  7 років тому

      I'm not sure about oils in haircare but they aren't meant really as a potent treatment, more like to give some moisture - shampoo & conditioners probably won't last very long anyway (certainly not in my house lol) so I can't imagine it would be an issue. x

    Good then I won't start washing it off. I mostly use it on my eyes (yes to coconuts is the one I use and Garnier) before I double cleanse and sometimes use it JUST in the morning in place of a cleanser , like doing a full cleanse. And nobody I know washes it off and they have beautiful skin. My skin looks great. I just bought a witch hazel free toner to try. I don't usually tone. I don't know if there is a sufactant in it (is that the word?) but I will look. Thanks for an exceptional video! Audrey Natalia it's good you found out it was the hard water, I'd have never thought of questioning putting water on my face. I like doing my cleansing to a tv prog, I love watching beauty vids and planning what I'll do, I need to stop planning and just do it lol
