Curry nailed it. He had all the talent everything you needed for a can't miss prospect but in the end, it comes down to heart and to want to be great. Some guys get their money and after that don't care. But those who do and go above and beyond are usually great players. That's what no team can measure, the heart and fight inside.
As a University of Utah alumnus, the minute I saw Alex Smith go first to SF I said, "oh shit they just ruined the best qb Utah ever had." Any Utah fan could have told you he should have been a late first or early second-rounder who went to a team with an established qb, so he could sit, learn a system, and develop more--like Aaron Rodgers got to do. I'm not saying Smith ever would have been as good as Rodgers, but I think Smith's later career, when he played on competent teams, with competent coaches, and competent ownership, showed that he could have had a much better career than he did. And I think that the career he actually did have was something of a miracle, considering that it didn't end in Ryan Leaf/Jamarcus Russell/Jared Goff abject failure as soon as his rookie contract expired. But that's what was great about Smith: he was a cool-headed competitor who was smart, knew how to adapt, didn't get rattled easily, and was able to use his brains to compensate for some of his physical shortcomings. I'll always wonder what he might have been. On the other hand, the dude also used his brains to wisely invest his millions of dollars, and today makes more in interest in a month than most people make in a year, so I guess he probably doesn't need my pity. At least I have two working legs though.

Mel Kiper has always had the worst predictions. Missed on TB. Missed on Peyton. Said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn’t the greatest QB ever. Kiper is still on ESPN.
I also mention Kiper had Ryan Leaf as the #1 pick in 1998 and a surefire star, as well as having Johnny Manziel as a future MVP. Mel's biggest miss - while not a draft prediction, it still must be mentioned - is his 2001 prediction that the Patriots would finish 0-16 and ultimately be relocated to Los Angeles: that year, the Patriots went 11-5 and went on to win the whole thing.

I tend to give a little bit of a break to some of the media analysts unless they are obnoxious. Bryan broaddus pointed out that most “media scouts” don’t have background access where they can evaluate a players work ethic and how much they love the game and only have access to film an pro day/ combine numbers. Players like Paxton lynch could’ve been great but he didn’t like football therefore he was out of the league in 2 years because he didn’t give a crap. Teams like the broncos and cowboys (who tried to trade up for him) should’ve had a better idea of that.
"Kyle boller posted an under 70% completion for his career." Ya, so has everyone else in history. Also Deuce was a really good RB, killed by injuries. Shouldn't have dogged on him for being picked early.
who knew that the Russell Wilson-Geno Smith-Cam Newton part would twist around so differently in the 2022 season - Geno Smith finally gets his moment to show he's not a flop and Russell Wilson is the one called out by the Broncos for being fake.
Nolan may be right that there wasn’t enough room for two giant egos on one team. Aaron Rodgers is obviously bad ass, but Alex Smith is the MVP for his comeback.
As a lifelong Packer fan and stockholder If I was stuck in an elevator for an hour, I would rather be with Alex Smith, One of the nicest people you will ever meet. If my life was on the line in a football game I want Rogers!
I think you owe Nick Fairley an apology. He was a damn good player in the time he played. If you do not know who he is and you watch football before like 2017 you would be hard pressed to call yourself a fan of the sport
I disagree completely he was absolutely horrid. Especially for the team that drafted him. They didn't even pick up his option year. If it wasn't for him maybe the Lions grab Aaron Donald the next year.

Yes. We need a video to get to the bottom of why Mel can be “successful” while being less accurate than the average fan with no inside info. Let’s call it the Kiper Caper, and let’s crack that caper.
Or ending up in San Fran’s dumpster fire coach/OC situation like Smith did? It’s impossible to tell how that would’ve gone, but I expect things would’ve been much different for both their careers.
They were passing on Marino because he was passing joints… that’s a shame because ultimately that wouldn’t have done shit. No reason to drop in the draft lol
Pro Bowls are not a very accurate determination of who's a good player or not. Popular maybe, but not who's the best player at a certain position. The pro bowl is pretty much seen as a joke by fans, players and even the lame media types.
It’s real irritating when you call the only pain medicine I can take “devil’s lettuce.” It’s been medically legal in your own state since 1996. I think that was before you were even born!

@@yurmabeechaudits3522 It’s medicine. I’m not taking it to alter my mind and to feel good. I don’t owe you an explanation, but I can’t take pharmaceuticals, not even over-the-counter pain medication. And your interpretation of Genesis is way off and based on not having an understanding of the whole Bible.
Interestingly enough regards Trent Dilfer and the Colts he had apparently told the Colts he wouldn't play for them so don't waste a draft pick on him. Wonder what Mel Kiper would have said if he knew this information.
I had relatives at a university in Pittsburgh and they stated they saw and had friends that did coke with Marino. If it was a hobby it never affected his play.
He was cocky and arrogant? Wtf that’s like the two traits you want an a quarterback. It’s one of the hardest positions in sports period. And you want a yes man? Sounds like you need your ego checked at the front door bc you don’t win Super Bowls. Quarterbacks do, how this guy is able to give his opinion anymore is amazing
I always thought that Paul Zimmerman was perpetually stuck in 1958. I mean, there's no denying his legend as a sports writer but, WHENEVER he talks about football, he's a blow hard for old school players...always downplayed modern day players and constantly espoused the offensive genius of some coach who's teams played on dirt lots with leather helmets 30 years prior to his given commentary. I don't know, he always drove me crazy.
Well, that initial take about Russell W doesn’t seem too outlandish now, it looks like he was more a product of a system and the legion of boom was the real driving force behind their success and not Russell 🤷🏻♂️

"Kyle boller posted an under 70% completion for his career."
Ya, so has everyone else in history.
Also Deuce was a really good RB, killed by injuries. Shouldn't have dogged on him for being picked early.
Coaching matters....Geno Smith may not end up a bust
Mike I follow your NFL and NBA channel! You have the best scoop on UA-cam
You really said Nick who like Nick fairly wasn’t one of the most ferocious dline man of the decade lol
Kyle Boller had an under 70% completion percentage for his career? Yeah, so has ever other quarterback in NFL history.
who knew that the Russell Wilson-Geno Smith-Cam Newton part would twist around so differently in the 2022 season - Geno Smith finally gets his moment to show he's not a flop and Russell Wilson is the one called out by the Broncos for being fake.
Yes please part II would. E awesome
He wasn't very good. Lol
@@michaelharrington75 how was he second team all pro if he wasn't any good? His last year in the league before heart problems he was good. He was second team all pro in Detroit and was good the one year in New Orleans
They asked Marino's roommate if he used drugs too sounds like how a cop would ask someone so they could arrest the roommate. Definately a trick question
I'm really loving this guy's channel so much content so many video's
Your always 2 steps ahead of your competition keep up the great work love your content your the absolute best

They are one of the best concerts, you can not go but just seeing them from the screen, I know it was surprising

Yes. We need a video to get to the bottom of why Mel can be “successful” while being less accurate than the average fan with no inside info. Let’s call it the Kiper Caper, and let’s crack that caper.
lmao the ending the guy poked himself in the eye with his glasses
Everything happens for a reason in Aaron Rodgers case sitting behind a HOF QB in Brett Favre has done him wonders
Or ending up in San Fran’s dumpster fire coach/OC situation like Smith did? It’s impossible to tell how that would’ve gone, but I expect things would’ve been much different for both their careers.
Man that Aaron Curry pick was horrible...no one to blame he just busted
They were passing on Marino because he was passing joints… that’s a shame because ultimately that wouldn’t have done shit. No reason to drop in the draft lol
That Irsay clip about Mel Kiper still brings me joy after all these years.
Now, Geno Smith looks amazing
Should do most controversial Adam Schefter tweets.
Pro Bowls are not a very accurate determination of who's a good player or not. Popular maybe, but not who's the best player at a certain position. The pro bowl is pretty much seen as a joke by fans, players and even the lame media types.
John 3:16 “for God so loved the world he sacrificed his one and only son” put your faith in God!!
“Kyle Boller had an under 70% completion percentage for his career”
Okay and?? How is that a mark against someone Lmao
W video like all ways microphone keep up the good work
Put some respect on tha soul patch 😂😂😂
Kyle Boller had a completion percentage” under 70% for his career”. How many QBs have one over 70%? Come on man.
You could do a whole video on the Josh Allen BUST predictions by the media and even a large portion of Bills fan themselves.
Your videos keep me caught up on all football news
You can never predict a players heart...quickest way to find out is to shun them by saying the player is unworthy.
The 49ers would have ruined Aaron Rodgers just like we ruined Smith. That team was truly awful. No QB would have succeeded. Awful team.
It’s real irritating when you call the only pain medicine I can take “devil’s lettuce.” It’s been medically legal in your own state since 1996. I think that was before you were even born!
I already know your general reply but Eve also thought highly of the great tasting fruit of the forbidden tree. Just bc it alters your mind and makes you feel "good" doesn't mean it isn't the devils lettuce.
Alex smith was a good qb a real good qb and a great mentor
But he ain't no Aaron Rodgers
At least the 49ers nailed the previous draft that also had a hometown QB who wanted to be drafted by them but they passed up on.
I would think Aaron Rodgers definition of winning would be winning the Super Bowl
Love your video man
Interestingly enough regards Trent Dilfer and the Colts he had apparently told the Colts he wouldn't play for them so don't waste a draft pick on him.
That standing jump that JJ Watt did was CRAZY!!!
It was a valid worry with Marino. It was Miami, it was 1983, and he loved cocaine. It could’ve very easily been a disaster.
LaDainian Tomlinson was drafted the same year as Michael Vick in the 2001 draft he was not playing football in 1999 pro
He didn't say LT played pro in 99. He was referring to his collegiate career.
Mel Kiper looks like he gets up in the morning looking forward to making bad predictions 🤦🏾♂️
Let's be real though cam is an anomaly, there is not another qb in history that would last more than 2 years with his completion %
Well, that initial take about Russell W doesn’t seem too outlandish now, it looks like he was more a product of a system and the legion of boom was the real driving force behind their success and not Russell 🤷🏻♂️
This comment didn't age well lol
Wilson kept them as a top seed every year with the hawks. Obviously if you a good QB with a historic defense, he'll be better
Under 70% completion? So like most QBs ever? Hahaha
Kyle Boller couldn't even complete 70% of his career passes. What a chump
Collinsworth in that screencap dissed not only Cam Newton but also JJ Watt. Embarrassing.
