- A video for Dusty Springfield's 1964 hit, 'Wishin' and Hopin''.
The song was first used by Dionne Warmick as a flip side. Springfield then recorded it, and released it as a single in May, 1964. 'Wishin and Hopin'' was also used on her 1964 LP, 'A Girl Called Dusty', which was released a month earlier.
The footage used for this video was taken from a 1965 'Shivaree' program. Host Gene Weed's trumpet synching is quite the joke.
Composer(s): Bacharach/David
Performer(s): Dusty Springfield
Producer(s): Johnny Franz
I miss those days.
The 60's! We were so idealistic. Now we're over 70, and still idealistic.
yeah, the first half of it looks cool, until the dark times, until ZOGonzo
She is terrific here. And I like the host pretending to play the horn!
We love you Dusty. A classic song sang by the best in Britain.
best in the UK --- Dusty.
Best in the rest of Nord----B'jork.
best on the planet----probably B'jork and Dusty. LoL
It's a great song with a great vocal, and I love the trumpet.
The one and only. Dusty !!!!
The Hest British female singer EVER by far. She was breathtakingly wonderful
March 30, 1968 Vancouver. Oh Dusty, you sang so wonderfully!
My dad talks about this! He had to drive my grandparents home from the show at the supper club she preformed at and he was only 15 at the time haha.
@@therebex23 Maybe he (your dad) was there at the same time we were?!
When this song came out, I was five years old, and was really beginning to pay attention to music. I was in love with her then, and I love her now.
One of the best female vocalist of the Rock and Roll era!!!
This was the sixties. Not the Rock'n'Roll era.
@@stewartfenton7660 If you're trying to split hairs that's fine I consider all the music from the '50s '60s and '70s to be in the modern rock and roll Era and Dusty Springfield was in that time frame...
@@billysmith8784 Nothing wrong with splitting hairs. But this is more than a hair. By Dusty's main era, Rock'n'Roll was ancient history, to the extent that the motorbike fans that still liked it were named Rockers as an insult. That they liked the name and adopted it just adds to the division. And by the seventies......that music was a world away from what had gone before, and by the way, people like Mud, Showaddywaddy, Roy Wood, with their "fifties" impressions, were a grotesque parody of the real thing. To lump those three decades into one is just absurd, though you're by no means the only one.
Amazing video footage!!! I love that show. I was about about five years too young to catch it.
Please, can we have these days back! The present world has gone insane, and not by accident.
I'd take the music of those days...but society has progressed at least a bit since then. Maybe that's why music today is all autotuned or electronic...no one has anything to say if they are signed to a label and anyone who does have something to say can't say it because they can't get their voice out.
Isn't it because Girls don't tale control of their TomCat like this anymore ....
So true, great 👏🏽comment!
We gays from this period - we knew which gender we were😂 The best solo females Dusty Springfield from the UK and Lesley Gore from the US. The times were changing around this year when we didn’t have to hide.
At least now they don't hide who they are 2:20
One of my favorite 60's songs. So was be my baby. It was and still is my favorite of Dusty's songs. I know Son of a Preacher man sold more. But I liked this one better.
Me too. I like it much better than Preacher Man.
Shivaree was a TV program in the mid-1960s produced in Hollywood, ( Los Angeles) California for ABC TV, local Channel 7. 💋
Toute les belles années de mon adolescence retours 60 abs en arrière super époque
Great song sang by the best singer ever
Excelente amigo muchas gracias....Dusty Springfield es una de mis cantantes favoritas, grandiosa voz.....Saludos desde Sonora, México..🙂
a wonderfull lady, great voice and a wonderfull artist
Dionne Warwick may have had this on the flip side, but Dusty Springfield took it and made it a major hit out of it for all eternity......
I bet she was great fun. Quite beautiful.
Besides Dusty's great voice, that horn intro and throughout the song, really makes this song shine.
So true I love the trumpet sound
Absolutely!
I remember when this song hit the airwaves! 💕🎶
I think I'm going to send this link to my wife. (Fingers crossed)
One of my favorite songs of that year when I was 18. It is so sensible direct and so well sung by this great British Singer. She not only had a very good voice like an Angel's but also knew how to dress and do her hair with an elegance rarely found today. I miss you Dusty!
Still perfect
Sadly when I learn of Dusty she already gone what a beautiful woman and a equally beautiful voice
Always thought it was cute song! Way before my time.
Mitzi still looks good in her 80 s !
Great movie , good memories
Have To Say This Song First Came Out On The Radio I Was In Love !! Wow She Could Sing Take Us Back To The Good Ole Days!
What a great, lively song! And the singer aces it.
This was a minor hit for Dionne Warwick. When Dusty's version became a huge hit Dionne said publicly that she felt "really cheated".
The people that cheated Dionne was her own record company Scepter records this song was the b side of this empty place great record but not really top 40 music I knew as a ten year old wishing and hopin was the real hit it's a shame the dee jays did not flip this record over which was not that rare that's how the mountains high by dick and dee dee became a hit I adore Dionne but I prefer Dustys version
I'm familiar with Dusty's version, i had no idea Dionne Warwick sung this too til now.
Love IT ! Singers Back In The Day Could do it ! I Remember Back In 1964 First Time out On KFRC KYA RADIO SAN FRANCISCO THE CITY BY THE BAY !
LOVE IT !!!!!
Amo esta canción 🤩💗🇦🇷
Go Go Dancers!!
Great song. Great performer. Great voice. Miss her. And those dancers are adorable.
Why do you miss her? Where’d she go?
@@frankpetersen3090 she dead
Frank, she's deceased!
But coreography is not suitable song at all
Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' each night of his charms
That won't get you into his arms
So if you're lookin' to find love you can share…
It a great song
Dusty Springfield(April 16th,1939-March 2nd,1999).!
Died too soon
Yea, the trumpet is great!
👏👏👏
so aweet
FAB :)
My fave
love here
Pure Gospel
Unfortunate hairstyle but a truly fabulous voice. I drove the mascara waggon for Dusty, A true star; what a voice!!!!
Loved Dusty. Hate the way they almost all were forced to lip sync their own records, because the television producers were scared they'd screw up if they did it live, no he's not playing the horn either. Still loved Dusty though
He's not PLAYing the HORN !!
@@termikesmike We know this
@@jamesmaass8929
agh, shoulda declared ?!?!
what'dya think she's saying to him at :37
If I could only go back. If only.
this song is the ultimate definition of a true lady
I seen this on 60s CD collection Advertisement.
Pretty sure the middle go-go girl is Teri Garr. She got her start on this show.
Good eye sight, that definitely is Teri Garr
Classic American Invasion just started she's actually the very next right after The Beatles to blow in American God Bless The Springfields and Everyone Please Chase Your Dreams Please Remember my name I'm about to be famous lol
Goldie Hawn should be one of the dancers !!!
OMG just how many horses 🐴 did the Red army have . At least half of all the horses on the entire planet 🌎. Lo ❤️ 💋 💋 💋
I miss when all girls thought how she did she was a gem
@Fooblestheclown Carole Pope?
The Rough Trade singer is Carol Pope. (She wrote the memoir ANTI-DIVA.)
I love Dionne's version. Dusty did a great job, but l just love Dionne's voice..the sound of it. The huskiness.
The horn started late at 0:38 but I can see why...he was Dusted by her and distracted. Lip sync is tough to get perfect I bet.
0:10
@Fooblestheclown I know who she is, I was just a little thrown off because you called her "Karen Pope", and I had no idea they were associated in any way.
Who is that cute guy playing the clarinet??
The host of Shivaree Gene Weed playing around with the trumpet not actually playing it.
Yes to play like that one has to be a real and talented trumpet player like say Herb Alpert or Louis Prima or Al Hirt or so many other talented trumpet players. Regards.
How could you forget Louie Armstrong
I can't remember all of them as there are so many. Regards.
@@lajas46 I noticed that, too. In one part, I heard trumpet, when the trumpet was not at his mouth. But, I think that is Derek Andrews, who toured with and played trumpet for Dusty. Derek Andrews has watched the old UA-cam videos of Dusty and commented.
"I conjure you Sathan, Lucifer, Dentalion, that you go, now, unto [your subject's name], and that you do not let him (or her) to be at rest any manner of ways; neither sleeping, nor waking, nor eating, nor drinking, standing, nor sitting or dreaming... but that you cause his heart always, and in all places, to be fixed on my love." 😈😈😏
LO MEJOR DE SEX EDUCATION, CANCIONES QUE SON OBRAS DE ARTE... ME ENCANTA! ME CAMBIA EL DÍA : )
HELLO, PLEASE TELL ME WHO WROTE THIS SONG , WISHING AND HOPING'.... ? PLEASE REPLY , JOHN FROM NORTH CAROLINA , . ,
Beautiful arrangement as well backup -voices but what a shame that was playback
Lesbian sings about love to a man . Very interesting .
I read they call that "Que_ring". Interesting. She's quite beautiful! (From a hetero).
Her sexuality wàs her business
Lesley Gore did the same. Many singers were and are gay. I think there would have been a riot in those days if men sang about men and women about women. People were sent to prison for being gay in those days. They are in most parts of Africa today and in Islamic countries - well you know the rest.
I find these old black and white music clips creepy as fuck. Something about how people looked and acted in clips from that century is just creep factor 10
This sucks. Why couldn't you leave the live audio. I can't find one that is correct.
You are right and she probably hated playback
Wishin and hoping was a big hit for The Merseybeats. Remember?
My favourite female singer. Just wish she hadn't try to sound American.
God bless America.....
True story I meet dusty in the fall of 1959 and I promise dusty, I will take care of her, how? I work as a bouncer in a 🌃 night club, and I took her there she was a awesome dancer, then I took out on a date💝💖💞and and I said to her that I love d her, well? That's my love story, sincere,Admirable🙏🙏🙏😇
With all the emojis I doubt your story VERY much.
Is it rientra?
Is it real rajenbdra?
I didn't know until today that she was a lesbian.
She looks like a robot.
She's having too much fun! Those dancers have got to go, though.
How can she be gay? And sing that song. She makes me believe she means it.
