  • Lady Stoneheart - formerly known as Lady Catelyn Stark - has outstanding personal symbolism, and it's mostly information about one of the deep mysteries of the story - who is Night's Queen, and is she connected to Nissa Nissa?

    Hi LmL, native Hebrew speaker here!
    The word Sapir is indeed Hebrew, you said it right :)
    But Saturn in Hebrew is "Shabtai" - related to Shabbat, Saturday, a day to cease work.
    Wikipedia reports of SOME scholars believing "Sapir" originated long ago from the Sanskrit word "Sanipriya" - meaning sacred to Saturn in Hindu traditions. But nothing of this possible connection is apparent in Hebrew itself.
    What's interesting is that the stone we know today as Sapphire was unknown in the Middle East region before the Romans, so many researchers have come to the conclusion that the Sapir stone in the Hebrew priests' official garment was actually Lapis Lazuli, a darker blue with golden veins, since it contains fools gold. The word Sapir was later borrowed into Greek, French, etc. to describe the lighter colored gem.
    What's really interesting is that a brick of Sapir is first mentioned in Exodus 24 - the chapter of the Old Testament where Moses ascends mount Sinai to receive God's word, the Ten Commandments.
    Sapir is used there as a way of describing the sky below God's feet, His own creation, a clear and heavenly color.

    I have heard it before and I will say it again: Stoneheart will be involved in Jon's resurrection (if it even is Jon who died), since it would be a stone (re)birthing a dragon (assuming Jon is Aegon).

    BINGO, I think the original Azor Ahai (Bloodstone Emperor) felt regret after killing Nissa Nissa (Amethyst Empress). I don't think he meant to kill her\didn't believe their kind could be killed. BSE set out to resurrect her, restore life (fire) back into her corps. Essentially BSE is stealing fire (immortality) from the gods of the gemstone emperors. This is what set off the original long night. His experiments created the first fire breathing dragons and dragon riders. BSE\Azor Ahai was defeated and held prisoner in the Weirwood network. However, BSE isn't giving up. BSE's continued attempt for immortality is what has knocked nature out of whack (the seasons, the weirwoods, the magics, dragons, etc)

    I listen to your channel daily, often revisiting the same essays. I've been rotating through Bloodstone Compendium, Weirwood Compendium, and Sacred Order of Green Zombies over the last month. I was very excited for this Stoneheart video, as I'd been wondering when you'd get around to it. I have been incredibly pleased that my listening choices the last couple of months have prepared me for this, where you very briefly summarize a lot of those ideas to continue on, so it's been a nice refresher. This was yet another video that completely blew me away with the clarity with which you explain the symbols and what things mean. I'm seeing so many scenes entirely differently now.

    Aegon Frey and Cat’s AA/NN symbolism is so interesting. Cat becomes a weirwood, then comes out of the weirwood to settle scores and get revenge. Jinglebell as AA is helpless, abandoned, and sacrificed by an outside force (Lord Walder) which forces Cat’s grief driven insanity and her knife hand. So, would Lord Walder actually be AA here? He’s planned to plunge the sword for a while, when he kills Robb, Cat’s only known living child, she transforms, while Lord Walder successfully forges a new alliance and mostly ends the war of the five kings.
    Too much of a stretch? Lord Walder could also be plunging a magic sword into a wolf instead of a lion, representing the brittleness of the newly forged alliance as well.

    • @pratzuli
      @pratzuli Рік тому +1

      Also, if this relates to sudden changes in power dynamics, perhaps the traitors of the nights watch kill more than just Jon - it would make sense to clean house of Snow’s loyalists too, and wouldn’t it be unexpected to raise all the dead NW at once? Mel talks about how unexpectedly powerful her magic is at the wall. Shireen for 13. Not a bad trade, to paraphrase Lord Walder.

    I don’t know if you mention this (I haven’t watched the whole thing) but I’ve been catching with your old podcasts so I just wanted to comment here cause it got to do with Cat. She kinda works as a “solar figure” at the beginning by being promised to “fiery” Brandon but then after his death she’s left with “cold” Ned. She doesn’t marries Brandon per se but I think there’s something there. Same with Robert and Lyanna / Cersei, even though Lyanna is ice she is described as this fiery, brave, fighting kind of person (english is not my first language) and then after her death he’s left with Cersei, who’s described as “icy” in the Jon pov in GOT when he’s looking at the whole group of Lannisters come in for the dinner. Been listening to the audiobook in Spanish and I’ve been picking up on a lot of those symbolisms and also kinda bummed some have been lost in translation (“they’re hiding under the snow”). Well keep up to great work. Also any way you’ll upload these as “audio only” podcasts on spotify or something similar? Those are what keep me sane while at work.

    LML do you think there's any reason symbolically for many of the valyrian steel swords being taken/stolen from their rightful owner in the main story of ASOIAF?
    Some examples of this would be:
    - Ice being taken from the Starks and given to Ilyn Payne then split
    - Samwell being forced to go to the wall by his father and thus losing his rights to Horn Hill and Heartsbane to his younger brother
    - Longclaw being taken from Jorah Mormont and then given to Jon Snow instead
    - Even the catspaw's dagger was (allegedly) taken from Robert Baratheon's collection by Joffrey and given to the catspaw to kill Bran
    - In some ways both Dark Sister and Blackfyre have been stolen from their rightful owners since both are currently lost
    Just noticed an interesting pattern here and thought there may be something to it. Thoughts?

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  Рік тому +10

      perhaps something having to do with how Azor Ahai's lightbringer became the last hero's dragonsteel, since i think AA became NK and dragonsteel would have been used against him. Along with mythology and symbolism I also love a bit of true crime and now they seem to be combining somewhat. I'm following a story about someone who is currently in jail and most of his charges are unindicted so far.
    He has a video on his IG about washing in the green green waters, asking for forgiveness and moving forward, and it seems to be a ritual that he was doing at least once a year. It was also in the charges that he finessed at least one person into signing a contract in blood. So it's been alledged by more than a couple people that he's been performing a kind of seggs magic. Many of the alledged victims have been too afraid to come forward until now, but I think as their stories get out he may gain a little more notariaty than he currently has.
    When you mentioned the bit about being stabbed and then a baby coming from that version it reminded me that 🍆 used to be referred to as the sword while the birth cannal word literally came from the word meaning "sheath." The C word if I'm not mistaken. 😂

    Hey David just checking in, was wondering if you would ever consider doing Elden Ring commentary as I think the Elden Ring lore community would really get a lot out of your perspective. You would probably have to collab with someone so I get it if that might not be possible. But as a George RR Martin fan it feels like an extension of his love for fantasy and a chance for him to flex his writing skills in a high fantasy setting. A lot of ideas that did not fit the setting of ASOIAF seemed to have ended up in there, in particular I would say ASOIAF is to feudalism is what Elden Ring is to Christianity and religion.
    Edit: if you did a stream with quelaag I bet it would be a good time
    Edit 2: some things I thought of while watching the stream,
    Alchemical Weddings- there are a lot of these in Elden Ring
    Radagon and Renalla as a marriage to make Radagon complete, Marika and the Elden Lords, Marika as a Vessel for the Ring
    Destined death-what does it mean to die a true death, Japanese concept of Ikegai, relationship of rot, death, and life. Malenia and Radahn both are such classic GRR characters, incredibly fleshed out and dynamic yet trapped by their own desires. Fia, Deathbed Companion seems similar to a corpse queen, and her motivation is classic George. Her companion Lionel is also extremely GRR vibes.
    Moons and celestial bodies- stars governing fates, the sun and the moon having different aspects, the celestial bodies reflecting the drama of the physical world and vice-versa
    Godfrey and Radagon as a reflection of the Hero in media/culture- this one is interesting because both give off Main Character vibes like Rhaegar, however we get to compare and contrast them so they show how this trope evolved and changed over time.
    Tree symbolism/ trees as parasites, Yggdrasil, crucifixion
    The idea of the Fingers of god, hand symbolism, three fingers vs two fingers- in particular the nature of religious orders and how religious practice influences all of culture and society. Marika as a fertility goddess, a hermaphrodite, a prophet. The idea of bringing some cultures into the fold while burying others and trying to erase their traditions. The Greater Will and collective consciousness.
    A lot of the central questions in the Elden Ring lore community have to do with the intentions of Marika and some of these various demigods, I think this is where your perspective on George and how he uses symbolism could really provide a fresh take.

    Missed opportunity to call it stick-mata, but seriously.
    17:36 "Ten fierce ravens were raking her face with sharp talons..." Hmm...
    In Chinese mythology, the crow is associated with the sun. Here too, it is a three-legged bird named Sanzuwu. According to the myth, there were originally TEN “Sun Ravens.” Only one of them rose in the sky at a single point of time. However, one day they decided to rise all at once, blotting out the sun like an eclipse. The effects of this were devastating to the Earth, so the gods sent an archer to shoot down nine of them. One remained and the Earth returned to normal. The Chinese myth portrays how the life-giving sun may also be dangerous to humankind.
    20:54 also the trident looks like forked lightning, like the stolen fire of the gods

    Catelyn's mother is MiNISA Whent Tully. Come to think of it, Littlefinger have the hots for the Tully sisters, then Sansa. All of them have red hair; is he also a Last Hero figure? Broken swords rings bell for me with LF. There is one in the Baelish Keep (w/ the titan head shield), and one tying him up to the titan of braavos( from whence his grandgrand dad is from), the statue who also have a broken sword. (Broken sword looks like a short sword/dagger). I know the targaryens brought the Catspaw dagger to Westeros but it is possible that the one who forged it are the braavosi ancestors/Facelessmen and is the prophesied one. LF, one of the most non magical but scheming character, might be the devil in the details GRRM have been hiding from us.

      and also missing plot in the novel, the Tullys and Petyr Baelish not mentioned in the Harrenhal Tourney considering Minisa is a Whent. My bet is Petyr Baelish is the Knight of the Laughing Tree. And we know Petyr Baelish always have a part in all the Tourneys esp. Joffrey's nameday prebooks(the one framing tyrion on the bet of the dagger) the one with Ser Hugh of the Vale, the one woth Dontos(Joffreys bday) and Harry the Heir in TWOW. Except for the Harrenhal Tourney. hmmm

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  Рік тому

      Littlefinger is a trickster figure. The cats paw blade isn’t really important in the books, and could not have been forged by anyone but Valyria. All these characters are echoes of the last hero or Nissa Nissa or whomever. It’s not literal. But yes, you got it, the broken sword over the mantle is a last hero clue. He pilots the Merling King ship, so he’s a king of the green see
