Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial! It's weird how hard it is to find straight forward AE tutorials about adding motion graphics to 360 footage. Thanks again for crushin it! 🎉
Great Video thank you. I have a different problem though. We're making our videos for 360 glasses like the occulus. Our customer wants lines that guide the viewer to important parts in the video. So I need kinda 3d-paths in the 360 video that i can then let go from point a to b so the viewer will look into the direction of b. Is there a way to do that? I haven't found anything on it so far.
Thanks for this - fab tutorial. It gets a bit confusing with the maze of linked comps but I just about understood it and am uploading my first 360 video to UA-cam now!
Hi! super clear tutorial, thanks. Just one question: why you activated "i'm using 3D plugin" during the second stabilize action and not during the first? Thanks again!
I want to make a cubemap using VR 360 in After Effects. And then I want to pull it out of After effects and be able to upload it or use it on the web (not UA-cam). I need step by step help with doing it. Can someone please help me with it? I would really appreciate it Thanks
Great tutorial, thanks ! I was wondering if the whole copy paste (at 8:10) is necessary because i usualy add a 2D Edit on a already existing 3D Edit to remove the tripod at the end. Maybe we can stack 3D Edit, and have one for stabilizating and one for 3D layers.
Great video. I have come across a problem that I have not been able to solve: How do I translate this technique to Stereoscopic 360 (top and bottom). I have scoured the Internet and can't find a single tutorial that would allow me to make graphics that treat the top and bottom as two separate images- After Effects basically crushes the output and makes the render unusable. Any insight?
Hey that’s a great video, one question about painting out a tripod or shadow, what if the camera is moving. Like a shadow of the person holding the camera walking or a drone shadow, how can we paint that out?
I shoot 360 footage in Jets and it's pain to take out the camera. I haven't found the method used in this video to help with my situation. Try this video. For me, though I use Mocha Pro. ua-cam.com/video/KZZn-jkJUfQ/v-deo.html
Great tutorial! Is there a workaround for pressing c and looking around the 360, but not affecting a patch or edit? Useful for checking to see if you're satisfied with what was done prior to render/export. Also, I notice that if I am using dynamic link from Premiere, the stabilized output comp doesn't seem to link back to Premiere's timeline!
Hola, ayuda hago los todos los pasos y me aparece "no se puede adquirir el fotograma procesado", que hago mal o debería hacer? otra... como hago lo mismo con mocha?.gracias
hello, thanks this video it is very helpfull, I would have a question with it. how can I make de animation on the right side or whatever which side but no in fron of the base camera view. I mean how can i make a tracking behind a camera because when i leave de "editing mode" the camera and all of modifications (what i made behind a camera) jump in the base position.
Thanks for the tutorial. I was having a hell of a time getting past the the camera tracker section. I'd hit "Apply 3D Camera Tracker" and it'd be fine except that the "Create Camera" button was ghosted and AE was telling me to Click on Analyze to begin. And If I did that. the program would hang. Tried everything till I finally rolled back to CC2018. Then everything worked fine. Seems the VR Comp Editor doesn't like CC2019. I'll finish up the tutorial tomorrow.
Hi! I'm new to these types of editing. Can you possibly give me some tips on how to render out a stereoscopic version of this? I already shot the right and the left and I'm not quite certain what to do with it
Thanks Stephanie! So that 1920 comp size is just the preview comp for the tracker. It actually won't affect the end resolution. You can still change it to 4K, and if it works better for your footage, definitely use it. But most footage won't have a noticeable difference if that preview comp is left at 1920. (Because that comp is only viewing a section of the 4K sphere.) This is a widely debated topic, but I did trial testing with Mettle on this issue, and that is the conclusion we determined. Having the preview comp at 4K is still fine, it will just significantly slow down tracking/render time. 👍
I'm wondering if anyone else has my problem and what you can do about it. After the 3D Camera Tracker analyses and you create a camera I get the track points and the target. But at some point I lost my target. I even have 'Show Layer Controls' selected and tried just doing shift/command/H. Still don't see my target anywhere.
When I did the clone stamp after I go back and look at the footage with the camera tool the brush strokes are like they are on the camera and not the video because it moves around. Not sure what I may have done different here... Edit: What I ended up doing is just duplicating to a sequence and adding a new edit like you did with your 3D edits and then it stayed in place. I guess that is essential. Doesn't make 100% since to me yet but I am just picking up immersive video editing. Thanks for the great videos!
Great tutorial! I'm doing a very very long 360 stabilization right now (17500 FRAMES!!!!! split up in 2 sequences. I don't know if Afx is capable of sovling that. Ram is not an issue. I've got plenty and I'm working with proxies). Does anybody know if I can do the 3d track with a lower compostion size like 1920x1080 and after everything is stabilized go up again to the base resolution which is in my case 3840 x 1920? Or do I destroy the camera tracking data then?
I’m trying to clone stamp an object and shadow that I cannot fit on the VR preview generated by the edit, meaning I have to pass it through AE several times. Is there a way to adjust the 2D edit view whilst clone stamping, without the previous clone stamps moving?
How does this work with importing an animated camera from Cinema 4D? Is it a similar process? As I am having difficulty matching imported nulls and camera animation from C4D with AE text animations in Skybox so they are in the same 3D space over my 3D animation - is it possible? Great tutorial, thanks
Hi Chuck, I've used Skybox for some time now but when I use the Skybox VR comp editor script and try to clone out something it doesn't erase it. Sometimes if it's a video and I clone something I can't see it but If I move the time indicator forward I see the edit ok. I have no idea why this doesn't work as I've used it many time before. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I figured it out and got my target but now another issue popped up. Is there any reason why my solids and tracking points move with the camera and are not fixed to the footage? I tracked the footage, so I don't see why this is happening.
I'm on a Windows. The AE 3D Camera Tracker does appear with blue banner stating 1 out of 2. However, it does not show the time left or frames stabilized. It simply freeze and I cannot stablize my shot. Anyone had this problem?
This is a common bug, not sure what the cause is. On the 3D Camera Tracker Effect, go under the Advanced tab, and check on "Detailed Analysis." That *should* solve the bug!
Hi, I have any problem, The AE 3D Camera Tracker does appear with blue banner stating 1 out of 2, , it does not show the time left. I have check on "Detailed Analysis." but not resolve.... :( . I use MAC , After Effect last version...
Thanks for this video. I didn't know you have to separate the stabilization and 3D text in separate steps. Not sure why it's done that way, aren't all the data points the same from the first tracker?
Thanks! Basically what it comes down to is the track points on the first-stabilization track pass, those points are based on the shaky footage. Then VR Comp Editor applies a correction (which is done by inverting the shake using VR Rotate Shpere, which is automatic.) But because of that correction, those original track points won't match the new stabilized footage. So a second track pass has to be performed. 👍
I have just followed your tutorial, I realized that applying VR Comp Editor add blurness and noise to the video. I wondered did this have happened to you as well or is it just my thing?
Great Tutorial! loved it. however i am facing a problem with stabilizing my footage which is quite long. The blue banner completes its process, but the yellow banner "Solving camera" is practically never completeing. It's been a while now and i'm still stuck on the same screen. Any suggestions?
@@YeagerFilm Hey, thanks a lot for replying! I'll look into it! I managed to work my way through around it. It's probably not the most ideal method, more like a compromise. But here's what I did. I decided to cut the clip in a premiere Pro and made a sequnce of clips which I then replaced each in after effects to do stabilisation on each of these clips individually. Worked that way too!
Download de AE 2018 or 2020 version because, as i realized, this plugin has been installed in the software from the 2018 version, and in the 2019 version it has many bug so i recommend the latest version 2020 because is more clean than the v. 19.
I solved this by masking out a part of the footage. My camera was on a forklift and I've masked out a huge part including the forklift. Then apply the tracker and delete the mask afterwards. (you have to dive in some comps for that).
Maybe too little information to do a good track? What you can do is use levels and unsharp mask to "enhance" your footage and try to track that. And turn those effects of when you're done tracking. This sometimes works for me with difficult low light footage.
Hi there. When I clicked "apply AE 3D camera tracker", a dialogue box popped up and said "unable to acquire rendered frame." Do you know what's going on? Has that happened to anyone?
Hi! I'm using the VR Comp Editor and I had some success creating solids and animating them so I tried to include a water effect that looks great in the Edit 1 (3D) but it is not showing up in the Output/Render 🤷♀️ I have done it a couple of times to be sure I didn't brake the links, is it possible to accomplish this water effect? I'd appreciate any advise :)
hi @@julianicolescu149! I placed the effect directly in the file without using the comp editor. Because the footage was taken with the camera over a tripod and the water effect is a distortion already, I just had to take care to rotate the image to avoid any problem with the 360 closure. It looks good!

Can you show me how to tracking a different view than default? When i change the view in 3d edit camera and apply tracking, the position doesnt work.
Is it possible to track a subject in the 360 video than do the reframe and focus the camera on the tracked subject?
