That's a nice locomotive., You could paint it orange and Burdakin blue, apply a big GT noodle and be totally legit, although I can't say for sure if GTW used theirs to switch the paper spur. I think they may have used whatever power was available.
@thomasdecker7631 hmm, tempting option, I'll think about that. I need to get a bit of practice with the airbrush first. Would the six axle loco have been too heavy for the Port Huron line, or do you think they would have used them? *Edit - I've just found a photo of an SD70 on the paper spur, so weight not an issue!
@thomasdecker7631 The more I think about it, the more I like this idea - the GTW livery is great and whether they ran on the branch or not really doesn't matter.
Hi Jim. Yes the SD40-2 was one of the best & most plentiful locomotives ever produced in the US... These are quite distinctive with those "porches" - never mind the handsome livery as you say! Thing is, unless absolute fidelity to a specific prototype is what brings you the most joy, I'd say keep it - MRR'ing is full of compromises, and using a little "modeler's license" in order to run something you enjoy is certainly an option! Cheers from across the pond, Charlie
@openeyes-411 thanks Charlie! I think I'll hang onto it, for the time being at least. I do enjoy running it, and it'll look nice in a cabinet eventually. Unless I need the finance for something else, in which case I'll be in the same dilemma 😂
Mega, super wondeful locomotive and Paint scheme ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@maquetedoalto too nice to let it go, I think!
Lol! I have so many locomotive, and i JUST CAN'T PART WITH THEM! Hence! "So many!"😅 it sounds so nice! Smooth runner too!
@@DarkTerritory71 it is a really nice model. And I agree, it's almost impossible to part with anything!
@@jimbarrett1975 I tell my wife, "they grow on my heart!" 🤣
Patch it for an imaginary rail operator, weather it, and love it :)
@@SouthDown I think that's where I'm headed....
Thank you!
very nice that Sd40-2 acting as switchers..
@@tonycano3203 the problem of having a small layout but liking big locomotives! I do like running the SD40-2s.

Just need to super weather and grime it. Then it will look like a true Rock Island did back in the days of their demise.
@artied1807 that's a possibility, and a good idea - I was looking at some pictures of some today.
Keep hold of it until I can afford to buy it off you lol

@jimbarrett1975 well you know where to find me, though not until after my pay rise in September 😅😅😅
