I completely agree with the box being a bit too big. I’ve talked to many people at the various LGSs I frequent and the common gripe is that it’s also a bit too heavy. However, I feel that at the end of the day, it’s the decision you’d inevitably have to make at some point: keep using 10~20 small deck boxes, or use fewer but bigger boxes that have more capacity and more use cases.
@@beyondthedeckbox Apparently it took many, many iterations. Props to both the Professor and Gamegenic for making it happen. Say what you will about the Prof, but the guy definitely knows his way around deck boxes.
always appreciate the different configurations of what could fit inside including the real world case of you going to prerelease with a land kit and extras from packs
I've been using it as my accessory toolbox for the past year. Basically like a draft kit, but I sub out the land station when I'm not using it. When I go to my weekly commander league night, I pull out the land station and pop in my league deck.
My nitpick is that the main compartment with divider is slightly too small for oversized cards that are sleeved (a rarity, but I have sleeved planechase decks and archenemy scheme decks!) Just a few millimetres more and they'd fit! Mayhaps, good sir, is the stealth ever so slightly bigger than the classic to accommodate said sleeved planechase cards (old school doscontinued ultrapro)?
The stealth is the same size and can't handle the planechase cards either, I'm sad to say. But I'm on the lookout for a solution for those especially since I'm sure planechase will be returning with the Death Race set early next year. I'll report back once I find something!
Do you have a Sidewinder 133+ by any chance? If so could you please test if it fits into the Academic main compartment? Looking for a premium material deckbox for a 100 card double sleeved (sealed inners so extra thick) Deck that fits into the Academic.
I prefer material more like the Ultimate Guard Xenoskin. The good news (for me) is that Gamegenic has announced a new Armorfyber which is supposed to be similar.
Funny enough. I use mine for yugioh, not magic. And when I got into magic, I felt the box was too big and limits the amount of decks I can carry in my bag for commander night. For yugioh tournaments, you need to have one deck and one deck only. For commander, it's better to have a variety of decks to play what the table is looking for.
The drawer setup and the lid. The fact there are more options for dice/tokens/etc in the academic vs the flip 'n' tray. It really what puts it over the top for me.
are the bastion 50+ bigger or smaller, depth wise, compared to boulder 60+? holding out hope that if 60+ bastions come, if they can fit this for my lorcana decks. thanks again for the detailed review.
bastion 50+ is 6.5mm less deep. Height and width is each about 1mm. The inner depth of the boulder and bastion, respectively, is ~4.4cm and 3.7cm I could fit a single-sleeved 60 card deck in dragonshields with room for maybe 3 more (or 5 if you're brave) cards. A double-sleeved deck is a no-go for the bastion.
Can this box fit Triple sleeved cards? I am looking for a box for triple sleeved commander decks, and at this point I've just ordered 2 custom boxes from Aaron Cain. :(
It can hold a fully triple-sleeved commander deck without issues. I have multiple friends who are currently using the box for their triple-sleeved decks. You’d still have a bit of space left even with triple sleeves, so just keep that in mind.
I got one and I sold it in 2 days. I hate how this deckbox was built. It's bulky, my cards dance inside of the box (I need to buy an extra accessory to solve the problem), and I don't see any advantage compared to other products from the gamegenic line. Also, it's expensive. I don't know what the professor was thinking when created that with the gamegenic, but I much prefer a simple Boulder or squire 100+.
Something I don’t see a lot of these reviews is that this bad boy fits a triple sleeved commander deck.
That's a really good point! I forgot to check that. I'll pin your comment! Thanks!

Absolutely. And really, the fact they were able to pack so many features in this space is impressive.

It’s a thicc box for sure but it makes taking everything I need (and then some) so easy that’s it’s my primary box 😊
Exactly!

It's a big reason why I like it so much!
Great as always, i got one as a draft kit off your recommendation and it's stellar! Thank you!
That's great! I'm so glad you like it!
You make the best reviews! Cheers

Thank you very much for the info on The Academic! I just ordered one for myself! Love your videos!

I've done the same thing for my duel commander league!
Thank you for another great review! :D
Trying to decide between this and the new Sidekick PRO.
I've got a video coming out on those soon!
Dice Catapults still included :)
You know it!

Woot
Which material specifically would you choose vs the kind you dislike?

What is the best feature that makes you return to the academic comparing with the flip 160+? that one you like more the size, material and price

Hey what do you think about Star wars unlimited? You should do a video about it.
I picked up a few packs and I haven't tried it yet but I've only heard good things about it. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

It can hold a triple sleeved deck in the main compartment. Apologies for not mentioning that in the video. I forgot to check. Thanks for watching!

Can it hold a Prism?
I am so glad I got a 3D printer I don't have to deal with deck box problems anymore

He reviewed it himself and explained his design thoughts. Watch that and you’ll see his thoughts.
