In this episode of the Dungeon Dive, I discuss the top 10 adventure board games, with a new number one. Although, it looks like I failed to ever record a video with my old number one, so the new number one may not really matter. LOL! But rest assured, at one point on this list that I was keeping on my computer, there was a different number one. :) Enjoy!
Daniel, these are a few games that I now own due to your coverage on Dungeon Dive, I would have never of know these games if it was not for your coverage: Quest for the lost pixel, Iron Helm and Tin Helm, Paupers Ladder, Hexplore it games system, and a few more that I can not remember the full names of, but thank you, you are a great ambassador for this hobby.
@alexany4619 Did you ever come to the right channel for that question! I've got HOURS of coverage of Runebound 2e and 3e, in a detailed play list that has all of my thoughts and more! Enjoy the episodes! These are some of my favorite videos on the channel ua-cam.com/play/PLKewgRd8Eir_5DXHqN6oRD8zlhQBD8il9.html&si=1T_92n0UQHAyBJKN
@@alexany4619 I for one hate the tile flipping resolution mechanic of Runebound 3e. Runebound 2e uses a d20 (or is it 2d10, I forget now. Between Runebound 1e and Runebound 2e, one game used 1d20 and the other used 2d10) for resolution, so its very familiar to anyone who's played /that/ fantasy roleplaying game. Pre-order for the full monty headed your way as a result of this video. It finally reminded me that I'd been holding off on Pauper's Ladder for much too long.
By the way, I am very grateful to you for sharing your very well informed comments on so many games on this genre, because I don't have the time and space (both physical and mantal) to play as many games nowadays. This helps me decide what games are really worth my time, effort and shelf space. Thanks to you I have found some amazing games on the past few years. Keep up the good work and keep your independence, it really does make a difference from other bigger UA-cam boardgaming channels which are not specialized in anything and work more for the publishers than for their viewers or their passions.
I just started digging into your videos and I'm loving what you're doing! There really aren't many people talking about these kinds of games anymore and I'm happy see them getting love. Great job!
Great list, thank you for putting it together for us. Arkham 2nd Ed. is easily one of my favorite games (regardless of genre) and Touch of Evil isn't far behind. But the real reason I watch lists like this is to be exposed to games that I don't already know about. I ordered Iron Helm after watching your Dungeon Crawler top 10 and I never would have known it existed without you. There are a couple on this list that I'm going to be looking into (Lands of Galzyr is particularly enticing) and whether I end up buying them or not, I'm glad to have them pointed out for consideration. Many thanks and keep up the great work!
Wow, well done Daniel, what fantastic games and congratulations to Paul Stapleton from Bed sit games for Paupers ladder being number one game on Daniels list.
Hello Daniel, This is an excellent list that you offer us. I bought Hexplore It FOA for myself and "Fallen Land" is in my future purchases. I thought there might be "folklore" but it's more of a campaign game and rather linear but the publisher really missed out on a great opportunity by not supporting the creation kit they have edited with. There could have been a huge community around to develop this game. There is also SoB, but here we are straddling two worlds but it offers a great opportunity to create your own adventures and with Hexcrawl we have a very wide range of what the game system can offer. But you get it probably classified more in the DC genre.
Great list and details as always Daniel. Good to see fallen land at No2. Amazing the team managed to create so many crazy cards, equipment etc and still the game works fine.
I love watching these videos by you -- I love how you take the genres so seriously and take the time to tell us why you like each of them. And your tastes are so interesting. Most top 10 videos feel like you are just watching a computer generated list. You always have some eccentric choices that reflect your deep experience with these games. Love it. Always learn about some new game I've never heard of. -jesse
First time watching one of your videos. You absolutely ooze authenticity and credibility. I can feel your enthusiasm and it is highly contagious. Great job!
Over time this has become my personal favorite genre, which I mostly play solo but occasionally enjoy with a group. I enjoy the wider scope of the narrative, and that it relies on the player to stitch that narrative together themselves. The latter can happen in dungeon crawls as well, but it's mostly tied to the turn-by-turn combat events, so the "stitching" is just smaller scale or more "zoomed in" by default, and it also tends to be scripted a bit more. The narratives in adventure games seem to have more variety & length. The genre also seems to be more open to unusual settings and characters, whereas dungeon crawls seem to fall back to the more basic Tolkien or contemporary D&D tropes.
Pauper’s Ladder is so well deserved. A masterpiece of work from Bedsit Games. The solo rules were designed by our Bag of Dungeon designer Russ Law and BSG kindly mentioned us in the rule book. Thanks for a great roundup. Great channel.
Wow, Pauper’s Ladder at #1! Such a great choice! I immediately fell in love with that game and it’s whimsical world! Looking forward to the second edition.
Very interesting list. Runebound 2nd Edition is still my #1 game, so, I'm glad to see it, even if it's down at 9. My #2 is Vindication, which I know is too Euro-y for some people, but I really get into the theme while also enjoying the gameplay. If it had a better solo mode, it could replace Runebound for me. Witcher: Old World has been fun so far, but I haven't gotten into it much yet. I'll have to see where it lands in the future after more plays.
I can't even imagine trying to compile a list like this - you're doing yeoman's work here! What a great mix of older classics and new titles as well. This is how "Top 10" lists should look. The way you describe your #1 is how I feel about Earthborne Rangers. Adventuring around the game world and the actual card mechanics feel like the the next generation of what a deck-based card game can be.
@@TheDungeonDive I know deck builders aren't your favorite type of game, but I am feeling pretty confident that you're going to enjoy it. Definitely a smart move waiting for new printing!
I will be honest, the let's plays I've watched lately have left me feeling totally flat about the game. LOL. I can't believe the game starts off with having the players deliver some biscuits. LOL! I hope there's more to do than just deliver stuff. :) I don't think the game makes a very good first impression, but I'm curious.
@@TheDungeonDive I think they messed up the intro a bit - they tried being creative with how you create a "character" and they show you how to play, but it's a rather confusing and doesn't quite work. That's one of the things they're fixing with the new printing, so I'm hopeful it comes across better. But yes, it's not at all what you'd think from other deck builders (like Arkham or Marvel) - it's more about exploring and interacting with the environment, or sometimes just hanging back and influencing how the environment unfolds. I genuinely find it relaxing to play - it's a new experience for me. At the risk of sounding like a cultist, I am not sure it's something you can "feel" from watching it. Instead, it's pretty cool to experience the interesting way that cards interact or seeing how they interact differently based on what's happening. But yeah - delivering biscuits. 180 degrees different than dodging nonstop nightmares in Arkham Horror. : )
I have a special place for Talisman 2nd edition as well. That was my first game when I was a kid beyond the mass market games. It was the only game I knew of that had expansions, which blew my mind.
My favourite adventure game will always be King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table by Matthew Hill and Julian Musgrave from 1986. Of course because of nostalgia.
I absolutely cannot wait for your series covering Arkham Horror 2e! Your opinions are always spot on and Arkham was the first game to draw me into the adventure hobby (aside from heroquest and d&d). I picked up all the expansions and have played countless hours with my best friend. While it doesn’t hit the table as much anymore, everytime it does it’s as absolute banger. I also agree that it’s still the top Arkham Files game despite the LCG and Eldritch Horror’s merits.
I really enjoy the fact that you're taking time to define the terms that you use and how it influence your choices! In my humble opinion, its pretty cool to have a clear definition of what you consider adventure game and a maybe more "theorical" approach instead of just a random top 10 of game you like! Now, to my wallet and try to get those games! Already got a couple of those but still need more!! Thank you for the vid!
excellent video! always the tastemaker, but from experience and passion, not sales driving. Pauper's Ladder is my next "when I have the cash" purchase!
As a dedicated solo board gamer & lover of the adventure genre, I own & REALLY enjoy 9 out of the 10 on this list. Guess which one I don't own? You're right !! Albion's Legacy. 🤣😂😂
Glad to have some of these in my collection. Definitely discovered many (most?) of them through this channel. Pauper's Ladder made its way halfway across the world and then got sent back for some odd reason. Luckily Paul and I figured out the issue and it got delivered safely. It's now my daughter and my number 1 game to play together.
Me my first adventure board game was Dungeon by TSR played it back in the early 80s both as a boardgame and as a computer game on my Apple 2 PC. (bought it as a bootleg for like 0.50 USD at the time). Liked it initially but the game play got stale after a few plays. By the late 80s I was playing various adventure board games most notable Talisman, Rogue Trooper, Dragon Quest, Lords of the Underearth(Metagaming). The best adventure boardgame I ever played was Talisman. loved it back then still play to this day albeit as a PC game.
Nice list. I've played them all except for your #1 Paupers Ladder. So now I'm going to have to track that down. I've been thinking alot about Combat Systems. It would make a good list if you had the time. For instance, I loved the variety and effects generated by Runebound 3 chit pull but I also felt like it slowed combat to a crawl. Its not an issue for a solo player but add two more gamers and it takes forever.
Combat is often my least favorite thing in these games, which is weird because so many of them are really focused on combat! I prefer simply and fast when it comes down to it, but I can also appreciate RB3e for example. But you're right - only solo. It's too long!
Good to see Dungeon Degenerates still in the top ten. Leigh Shepherd here, the new Rulesmonger (he rather than she - might be thinking of Jaycee Fairclough, the sculptor on th DD minis?) Hopefully the Dirty Deeds expansion will be the mode you are after, with mini missions you can choose as you sandbox across the Borderlands. That said, I suspect the Lore Sean is introducing in the other expansions will be right up your street!
@TheDungeonDive I do intend to get my names on BGG (also additional art on Stalagbite!), but seems you have to prove yourself, so need to take photos of the rulebooks? Who knows, but will get to it at some point!
Leigh I beg you 🙏 please convince Sean to revamp the character sheets so it's easier to track the character stats without stacking or moving such tiny status token markers.
Fascinating list. I've been into Tabletop for over 7 years and most of these were unknown to me, and I like to think I have a fairly solid grounding in the hobby! Will have to do some further research. Thanks!
Great list! Nice seeing Lands of Galzyr squeak into the list. I've had a lot of fun adventuring around in that game. A user named GwynHawk put a nice little Character Advancement list together on the BGG Files page for LoG that adds a pinch of leveling-up to your character/game over time without making them too overpowered. Do you have any thoughts on Agemonia (campaign) or Euthia (one-off scenarios)? Euthia is a bit of a monster in terms of table space and setup. I've seen some others mention Earthborn Rangers, which I also really like, and sounds like you backed the 2nd printing, so enjoy that. Glad to see your channel growing as well! I see your channel mentioned more and more on BGG and Reddit, so I hope newbies are enjoying dipping back into your huge catalogue of videos.
Thanks! Euthia won’t fit on my table so that’s a no buy. Agemonia I just ordered in the last crowdfund. Same as EBR. So haven’t played those, but I will at some point!
Totoro is happy to see Pauper's Ladder at the top, it's a special game. Talisman is still Totoro's favorite because he's trapped in the 80s/90s but in a fun way. One day he will acquire Lands of Galzyr.
Going back and forth between TTRPGs and board games, and looking for something in between, this list is full of things I was not aware of their existence and perhaps right up my alley. Thanks!
May I suggest Darklight Memento Mori? It is the most immersive dungeon crawler IMO. It has very nice lore you can read on the website and you can make your own quests based on that. Extremely fun and intense game. The only problem is it is out of print and very expensive. However, it is well worth it.
Almost every game I cover on the channel exists in that space between RPG and board and board game, and that's something I talk about A LOT! :) As a matter of fact, games like Arkham Horror and Mertwig's Maze were specifically made by their designers to offer up an RPG-lite experience, but with the rules of a board game. You absolutely cannot go wrong if that's what your looking for with any single game on this list. All will totally satisfy!
I had a blast with Lands of Galzyr with my friend. It was a joy like you said in the video. Looking forward to continuing it. I'll continue from the list.
Nice list, and I clearly NEED Pauper's Ladder. I also like the rules for Runebound 3rd more than 2nd, but the expansions on 2 are a LOT more interesting. Euthia would make my list, as well as Prophecy. I also suspect that Dragons Down will land in my top 3. I've always desperately wanted to like Magic Realm, but the game is still far too fiddly and complex. Every change in Dragons Down looks SO good. Galzyr is a game that really should be on a lot of lists. I still prefer Tales of the Arabian Nights (which would be at the top of my list). Galzyr adds SO much to that style of game.
Tales of the Arabian Nights is my, pour a beer and sit down for a fun/random choose-your-own-adventure game. I also love Lands of Galzyr and the amount of content there is in that digital book, as well as the fact that the landscape changes over time. Super pumped to see how Tales of the Arthurian Knights turns out at the end of this year!
I have had Paupers Ladder, and the MoonTowers expansion, waiting to be played properly in my collection for well over a year... time to dust it off and try out the solo mode!
Arkham House used that art for Phyllis Eisenstein's Born to Exile novel - awesome art and cool book that has a little bit of a Jack Vance Dying Earth vibe.
I really appreciate this channel. You have revealed many titles I have not heard of (Iron Helm). I wish I could get you my copy of Runebound 1st Edition so you could compare.
Im an Arthurian nut too. What have you got into? Mary Stewart's Merlin trilogy, is interesting, I have a soft spot for Steinbeck's The Acts, The Penguin two volume L'Mort is very solid, Whites Once and future King I think is a true classic, Howard Pyle too, even Bernard Cowell efforts are interesting I prefer The Grail Quest to Warlords but worth a look in if somewhat dry at times.
Thanks for the recs! Right now I am working my way through The Great Book of King Arthur, by John Matthews, illustrated by John Howe! In my research I read that this is the best of the modern versions.
Hi Daniel. I was going to disagree with you about Hexplore It: VotDK, but then you addressed my big issue with the game. which is that some characters are totally OP and break the game, while others can be weak. My game group is 5 players, and both times we played this, 2-3 players took over all the killing duties and the 2 weaker characters sat in the back seat and just "Defended" on their turns.
Oh man, I can't even imagine playing this with 5 players! That sounds like hell to me. :) It's long enough solo! For me, these games are 100% solo games, or maybe 2 players, MAYBE 3...but that would be pushing it. What do other players even do when playing? There's really nothing for a group of players to decide on. How long do 5 players games last?
I think the 'problem' with Hexplore It is that the numbers get too big at some point. Like the Brute and Berserker can deal 80+ damage per round by the time you reach the Dead King. I house rule that stats increases are limited to gear upgrades, apart from quest rewards and boss single rewards; the power up cards just give you the right to purchase that specific gear upgrade in a city (you need both the right power up card and gold).
I’ll definitely have to check out paupers ladder. Paul Stapleton has a stall at the Open market in Brighton (uk) where he’s based so I will pick up a copy when I’m there next.
Love the video but for 35 minutes I’d love it if you showed even one or two thing about each game along with reminiscing. Maybe mention a mechanic or show a component.
Not that kind of video. This is a talking head video. For more details, search the channel, and I've got insanely detailed videos for most of the games featured. One that isn't is Arkham Horror, but my deep dive retrospective into AH starts this month, and it will be probably 20+ hours of coverage. :) Should be enough!
Really nice video! I'm glad to find your channel. Many of these games are on my shelves and I love playing them. But you also mention many that I have never even heard of and that intrigue me greatly. My favorite game was missed from your Flying Frog list, which is Last night On Earth.... but I forgive you! 😄I also love adventure games and just cooperative games in general. You noted that you have moved to the PNW. Are you still there (here)? Obviously I live there as well.
Thanks! I don't think I'd consider Last Night an adventure game. For me, it's more of a skirmish game. I'll be making an episode on that soon, covering some of the fan made solo rules!
Was NOT expecting your No. 1 at first - I was like "WOAH!", but then I was like "Heck, Yeah! The perfect Dungeon Dive No. 1!" I am starting at 9 of these on my shelves (No. 6 is proving elusive and expensive), so THANK YOU for all past and future amazing gaming experiences you've introduced to me, Daniel!
@@TheDungeonDive I had Runebound 2e, Arkhaam Horror, Sleeping Gods, and A Touch of Evil before finding the Dungeon Dive. The rest are the DD Effect! LOL. We have a LOT of overlap in our entertainment / gaming interests, Daniel. SO happy I found the DD years ago and SO appreciate you and all that you do. Thank you for helping me find my niche and people!
great list. :) i just got the massive rpg tome for hexplore it: forest of adrimon, can't wait to dive into that. random question: do you think skyrim would have made the cut if it had better art and documentation?
I still love the game to death. Just so happens I like 10 games more. But I will never, ever sell Talisman. Waiting to see what changes with new edition. I play with so many house rules that but now Talisman is kind of my own game. :)
So does Fallen Land, and it's a much better game than Waste Knights. You actually have the time to have fun in Fallen Land, and you aren't rushing a timer to get things done.
That's what my insanely detailed reviews are for, and there's one for each game on the list! Just go to the channel, and search. This is simply a talking head top 10. If you want more, I have over 800 videos on the channel, many of them over thirty minutes focusing on each game, with many multi-part series devoted to a single game, and some videos over an hour long on a single game! Explore the channel! That's what it's here for.
So pleased to have found this - and watching to the end. Had no idea about Paupers Ladder and will preorder. I am also a Talisman rooted person, but tend towards shorter accessible games now that are either co-op or have co-op house rules which we have done for Karak. We play as a family from 5yo old up. Any chance of an overview of more simple games?
I have an entire playlist dedicated to simple games. :) Actually, most of the games I love and cover on the channel are more simple than not, and I tend to like more simple games more than most people that cover games on UA-cam. However, when you're talking about a 5 year old, then you're really not talking about simple games, but kids games, and I don't focus on those because I don't have children and never play games with children. :) ua-cam.com/play/PLKewgRd8Eir9O1to3tXvqWHVN2kmTOMh-.html&si=GDHurfEDJHxCfZji
Would you count Xia: Legends of a Drift System as an adventure game? Have you played that one? I hope Arydia will make this list one day (scheduled to deliver end of year 2025). It looks so good!
I love FanG, just not as much as ATOE. :) FanG takes up a lot more room on my small table, and on my shelf. So those are two negatives. I've got detailed videos on both on the channel. Here is my latest video on FanG. Both games are amazing, and are always on my mind. ua-cam.com/video/j9lMyW5Emo0/v-deo.htmlsi=WG-ebGA-muDTpdhC
Arkham Horror 2E is in the mailbox as we speak on its way to a new home and ill forever be unsure if I regret selling it or not… the wife and I just like 3E better I think for its simplicity. You could say I traded it for DUN so 🤷♂️
I was thinking about trying to use Arkham Horror LCG as a solo journaling RPG. Does that sound doable? Has anyone tried this? I recently fell in love with solo journal rpg using the Colostle game. It was so fun and I like to both illustrate and write.
I love that Hexplore It made it on the list, and ranked so highly. I absolutely love that series! But...I'm also deeply offended that Mage Knight didn't make this list. I consider it the pinnacle of adventure games. =D Thanks for the great game recommendations and information! You're the reason we discovered Hexplore will be forever grateful for that.
@@TheDungeonDive i totally get that. MK is very thinky! i feel like Euthia is a good compromise but i won't know until that arrives next year. i picked up Fallen Land, so we'll see how that goes... =D
@@TheDungeonDivenow that The Isofarian Guard is out you should consider it as worthy of this list. Easily my new favorite game and definitely the best adventure game I've ever played. This one definitely has both brains and heart. =D
Wonderful list! Thanks for sharing the video. I own some of them and couldn't agree more. Have you tried "The Isofarian Guard" and "Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood"? Would you consider them adventure games?
Thanks! I don’t play many long campaign games, so those two aren’t really for me. I had Oathsworn for a bit, and it was ok. A little too much time spent reading for me. But very well made. I don’t have enough room for Isofarian guard in my room or on my table. :)
@@TheDungeonDive Thanks for your thoughts. Long campaign games need a huge commitment and not many people are willing to invest that much time on them. Myself sometimes get a bit tired but the accomplishment of ending a well written campaign with character progression, good fights and exploration are what I consider a top tier adventure game. As for the space, I totally understand. I live in Japan and space is a huge problem.
I like a lot of the of the games you have in there. Hexiplore it, I have all of them, but my favorite so far is Mirza Noctis, the world is so rich, and thematic and you have a catacombs exploration, and your right they take many hour's to complete; infact I am waiting for a gaming table to turn up so I can play this in two sessions again, as it takes so long. Arkham horror I have had 2nd edition, but I have 3rd edition now, and to be honest I really prefer the 3rd edition, it to me feels a much better and more cohesive game, its a shame it was not that popular. I have fallen lands (1st edition) but have not played it, but look forward to sometime in the future, I also have all the sleeping gods games, I am going to start a solo of distant skies soon. I have backed dungeon degenerate and look forward to playing that as well, when it comes through. Good list, even if I had made a list it would have been different.
AH3e is fantastic! I’ll definitely be covering it extensively during my AH deep dive going on now. I would also expect everyone’s list to be different. Would be really strange if we all had the same lists.
In this episode of the Dungeon Dive, I discuss the top 10 adventure board games, with a new number one. Although, it looks like I failed to ever record a video with my old number one, so the new number one may not really matter. LOL! -jesse
Thank you! Appreciate it. :)
First time watching one of your videos. You absolutely ooze authenticity and credibility. I can feel your enthusiasm and it is highly contagious. Great job!
Thank you. Appreciate it. :). Thanks for stopping by.
I was trying so hard to remember the name of Paupers' Ladder game. Thank you
I cannot express, how absolutely amazing that intro is. Filled with so much nostalgia that I'm pretty sure I time traveled a little bit.
Oh wow! I never made that connection before! Thanks. :).
Wow, Pauper’s Ladder at #1! Such a great choice! I immediately fell in love with that game and it’s whimsical world! Looking forward to the second edition.
It’s a fantastic game. While it’s reminiscent of other games, no other game really has the same feel.
Haven't played EBR, yet. Ordered the recent crowdfund.
Yeah. Expansions were pretty rare!
I already missed a video like this. Lands of Galzyr... Top 3 on my list of adventure/exploration games.
My favourite adventure game will always be King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table by Matthew Hill and Julian Musgrave from 1986. Of course because of nostalgia.
Albion's Legacy might be something to look into!
It’s a really special game! Always makes memories.
Hearing about a board game that could’ve been designed by King Crimson and Steeleye Span has me salivating.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. And thank you for the thoughtful feedback.
That comment about King Crimson and Genesis killed me. You are a brilliant salesperson.
KC's Islands and Selling England by the Pound are perfect soundtracks for Pauper's Ladder.
excellent video! always the tastemaker, but from experience and passion, not sales driving. Pauper's Ladder is my next "when I have the cash" purchase!
Good choice! :)
As a dedicated solo board gamer & lover of the adventure genre, I own & REALLY enjoy 9 out of the 10 on this list. Guess which one I don't own? You're right !! Albion's Legacy. 🤣😂😂
Ha! Maybe worth tracking down? :) We've got a lot in common!
I love Flying Frog games, so I will have to get a Touch of Evil. Great video, I always enjoy hearing your take on games. See you in the next one.
It's very good!
Paul’s a good guy. :)
Leigh Shepherd here, the new Rulesmonger (he rather than she - might be thinking of Jaycee Fairclough, the sculptor on th DD minis?)
Hopefully the Dirty Deeds expansion will be the mode you are after, with mini missions you can choose as you sandbox across the Borderlands. That said, I suspect the Lore Sean is introducing in the other expansions will be right up your street!
Thank you, Leigh! Appreciate the comment. You need to get your name added to the BGG page! :) But at least now we know. :)
Thanks!
There always more out there to learn about! I’ve been playing hobby games since about 1984, and I’m always discovering stuff I never knew about.
Loved this as I do all your videos! Thanks for the insightful discussions. And I couldn’t help but noticed the Zone back there 👀
Yeah! Zone is pretty interesting.
Totoro is happy to see Pauper's Ladder at the top, it's a special game. Talisman is still Totoro's favorite because he's trapped in the 80s/90s but in a fun way. One day he will acquire Lands of Galzyr.
Yeah. Theyre both so good. :)
Arkham Horror 2e is the game that made me fall in love with board games, especially adventure and dungeoncrawlers
It’s very good!
Excellent video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Excited to dig into this during my drive to work tomorrow!
Hope you enjoy it!
I’m also looking forward to Dragons Down!
I agree with everything you said. :)
I have had Paupers Ladder, and the MoonTowers expansion, waiting to be played properly in my collection for well over a year... time to dust it off and try out the solo mode!
Nice video and good chanel! Thanks for the reviews and recommendations!
My pleasure
Dungeon Degenerates is such a blast!!! It's pure fun!
Destinies is a great adventure game, great vibe and great use of mobile app
Great game!
New to your channel. Love the content. Glad to see A Touch Of Evil on your list. It is, hands down my all time favorite game.
Welcome! It’s a great game.
Love that art for the title- same painting that’s on an Oublieth album I enjoy
Fabian's art is amazing.
Arkham House used that art for Phyllis Eisenstein's Born to Exile novel - awesome art and cool book that has a little bit of a Jack Vance Dying Earth vibe.
Yep! I mention that in the description. This is actually a photo of my copy of the book. :)
I really appreciate this channel. You have revealed many titles I have not heard of (Iron Helm). I wish I could get you my copy of Runebound 1st Edition so you could compare.
Thank you! And what a nice thought. That would be cool.
Thanks for the video! Nice selection!
Glad you liked it!
Speaking of post-apocalyptic theme and Mad Max movies, I really like Waste Knights 2nd ed
I wish it had an actual sandbox mode. To me it feels more like a race game, and not really an adventure game.
hopefully the beyond the horizon expansion with the sandbox mode ‘waltzing matilda’ should be released in the coming months :)
But with Fallen Land, we don't have to wait for a masterful post-apocalyptic game. It's already here!
Was gonna sleep now I gotta watch this!!!!
Have you ever played Barbarian Prince? I'd kind of consider it the OG adventure board game. I think you can get a print and play for free these days.

@@TheDungeonDive Awesome! I'll check it out
11:50 - same here ; AH 2e will always be a favorite
I love Steinbeck, and I had NO IDEA he wrote a version of King Arthur! I'm definitely going to read that.
Tell him hi from the Dungeon Dive. :)
Omg AH 2e. Yes! This was my first and still honestly best game ever. My most favorite.
It’s very good.
I really wish we could get more content for touch of evil and fortune and glory. I have most of all the original content and would love more .
Have you had a chance to play Agemonia? What do you think? Always value and appreciate your opinion!
Have not yet. I have it ordered.
Thanks for the list - interesting you did not include any of the Andor series which I have been looking at lately.
Great game! Will be appearing on another list soon!
im meh on Andor. found it to be more of a puzzle solver than an adventure game
Did you ever try Mage Knight? Played a lot of games back in the day and think its one of the best game ever made. Definitely fit the adventure genre.
My thoughts on Mage Knight are presented here:
ua-cam.com/video/9rVcXaVHCXw/v-deo.htmlsi=sfmwg3UN5rPhLYv2
Really enjoyed this. Lots of new games to explore. Have you played Cryptic Explorers?
I own it but haven't played it. I'm hoping someone eventually makes some good solo rules.
@@TheDungeonDive Do you have table top simulator? There is a Cryptic Explorers mod for it. Let me know if you want a game.
Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it! However, I intensely dislike TTS. :)
Makes for an amazing Sunday!!
Was NOT expecting your No. 1 at first - I was like "WOAH!", but then I was like "Heck, Yeah! The perfect Dungeon Dive No. 1!"
I am starting at 9 of these on my shelves (No. 6 is proving elusive and expensive), so THANK YOU for all past and future amazing gaming experiences you've introduced to me, Daniel!
9 out of 10? Wow! :)
Thank you! Appreciate it. :)
Loved this. Interesting to see that Mansions of Madness didn’t make the list. I was going to pick it up-now, maybe not!
I consider that a dungeon crawl! It’s on the top 10 dungeon crawl list that premiered in April!
Don't miss the MOM experience - nothing like it, IMHO.
@@TheDungeonDive Oh, sorry! I get confused with the different genres. I am intrigued by Pauper’s Ladder!
OH, no problem. It's all just genre semantics. :) I could see how MoM could also fit on this list as well.
Woohoo! Congrats to all the games on this prestigious list. ProgRock ftw,
I think I thought it would be a new game, rather than an existing game in a new slot. Awesome choices
great list. :) i just got the massive rpg tome for hexplore it: forest of adrimon, can't wait to dive into that.
random question: do you think skyrim would have made the cut if it had better art and documentation?
Stay tuned for my thoughts on Skyrim. :)
If I can get a copy of Pauper’s Ladder, I will test that proposition. 😊
So many cool games ive never heard of. Ever play Shadows of Malice? Might be up your alley and likewise lesser known.
Yep! Great game. Have a review for it on the channel.
The new edition to Talisman might end up changing your mind lol. It looks pretty good.
I still love the game to death. Just so happens I like 10 games more. But I will never, ever sell Talisman. Waiting to see what changes with new edition. I play with so many house rules that but now Talisman is kind of my own game. :)
YES, FINALLY!🎉
Thx for the outstanding video.
My pleasure.
You know what we need? A licensed Mad Max RPG, why has there never been one?
💯 That would be amazing. Would love to build the "Black on Black" and tear around the wasteland.
So does Fallen Land, and it's a much better game than Waste Knights. You actually have the time to have fun in Fallen Land, and you aren't rushing a timer to get things done.
I would like to see more of the board setup and pieces so it can capture the aesthetics.

@@TheDungeonDive that is brilliant - sorry I missed it. We have played a number of those like Cora Quest. Will have a listen/watch.
No worries! UA-cam is terrible at promoting playlists and making them easy to find. I hate it, because I think they’re the best way to watch UA-cam.
Would you count Xia: Legends of a Drift System as an adventure game? Have you played that one?
I hope Arydia will make this list one day (scheduled to deliver end of year 2025). It looks so good!
I love Xia! Stay tuned for a mention of that!
I also have a review for Xia on the channel - it's a 3 part series!

@@TheDungeonDive oh nice! I will check it out!
I always appreciate seeing that someone else also has a Myth box-o-shame.
I’ve got so much Myth stuff.
I need to get Fallen Land. Furiosa was great. I know it did not do well at box. Hoping we get another Mad Max movie.
People forget that Fury Road didn’t do well either.
Have you taken a look at Dragons Down?
Yep! Have it ordered.
Loved playing Talisman. My dad had an early edition IDK which one and then I got it on the PS4 was cool to have other classes and areas.
I have Runebound 3rd Edition with all the expansions. Time to dust it off. It's a shame these are out of print.
Such a great game!
Did Fortune and Glory get bumped or not fit the criteria?
Great game! Just a very crowded category. So many amazing games.
How does Fortune and Glory compare to A Touch of Evil for you?
I love FanG, just not as much as ATOE. :) FanG takes up a lot more room on my small table, and on my shelf. So those are two negatives. I've got detailed videos on both on the channel. Here is my latest video on FanG. Both games are amazing, and are always on my mind.

Arkham Horror 2E is in the mailbox as we speak on its way to a new home and ill forever be unsure if I regret selling it or not… the wife and I just like 3E better I think for its simplicity. You could say I traded it for DUN so 🤷♂️
3e is awesome. I love it.
I was thinking about trying to use Arkham Horror LCG as a solo journaling RPG. Does that sound doable? Has anyone tried this? I recently fell in love with solo journal rpg using the Colostle game. It was so fun and I like to both illustrate and write.
Love these videos
Thanks!
I have to say. I never heard of your number 1 before
ua-cam.com/video/i6kooD4epJ0/v-deo.htmlsi=O45g1euyRx9BozB9
You're in a very sizeable majority there, I promise you 😀
I love that Hexplore It made it on the list, and ranked so highly. I absolutely love that series! But...I'm also deeply offended that Mage Knight didn't make this list. I consider it the pinnacle of adventure games. =D Thanks for the great game recommendations and information! You're the reason we discovered Hexplore will be forever grateful for that.
Nice! I really don’t like Mage Knight. It’s all brain, no soul for me.
Pretty steep price tag on Fallen Land. At least up here with our Canadian Peso.
It comes with SO MUCH stuff, and it a masterfully produced game.
I like this opening best.
Does the Hexplore it house rule of laying down the whole map goes for all volumes so far or just the first one?
I’ve played 1, 2, and 4 this way.
Good video
Thanks. :)
Ever play Touch of evil multiplayer? It's very long.....do you have any favourite house rules? You like it best as true solo?
I like it best solo. I don't have any house rules for it.
I’m wondering if Paupers Ladder 2nd edition will have solo rules in it
It does indeed! It has solo rules and 3 solo scenarios, and all the tokens and other bits you need for it.
It does!
Thanks Paul! It’ll be my first time getting the game, and thank you Daniel for the wonderful video!
Ah thankyou so much! I appreciate it greatly.
