I’m a second grade teacher living and teaching in the suburbs of NYC. I want my students to learn about other areas of our country and how other children may live. I will show this on Tuesday. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your world on the homestead.
And I teach in Poland, Europe. I regularly show my 12 year olds yt videos. Usually we learn recipes and culture aspects of living in the US ( God is good) ❤
We live in dairy country in Wi. One year my nephew was walking his show heifer down our country road getting ready for fair time. I snapped a picture of him waving at us with his cow on a lead as he walked by our house and sent it to my daughter. My daughter was student teaching in Milwaukee at the time and she showed her students the picture of her cousin and his prize heifer. She said it started a full day of discussion about how she grew up in farm country. These kids lived 2.5 hours away but it might as well been another planet for the differences in our life style.
I’ve heard a saying, “Bloom where you’re planted” and you are a wonderful example. Your little boys are so capable and willing to help with chores. Caramel snow is a delicious reward for them. Yes, God is good.
Absolutely Beautiful video! I get such a Big Blessing every time I watch your videos! I am an old woman now but I never get tired of remembering the enjoyment of hard work. And the children are an extra special treat to see doing their chores and caring for their animals! Thank you! Stay warm!
I tried the German Pancake recipe this morning (second day being in the home because of snow and it being too cold outside). I was told it's a keeper. Thank you for sharing it with the world.
thank you for sharing a day in the life. We are in minus temps here but just a few more days they say. I just love Maxwell's love for that cat, Sammy is it? He's the quiet one and unassuming I imagine, but his love of animals is clear. They all must be excited for the pancakes. What a neat tradition for a snow day. You are a treasure Ruth Anne, and it lights my day seeing your happiness and what you give of yourself for those kids. We all need more of this in our sad times. God bless and keep you all safe through the winter.
What an awesome day at the homestead! Busy boys working and playing, the animals happy and full of drama, lots of cooking and sewing by mom and daughter, and delicious food. A snow day is “icing on the cake” (or maybe the German pancakes and caramel syrup). Thank you for sharing!
Thank you RuthAnn and family! 🙂 I love that you fold chores and fun together! You're a wise mom! ♡ It always cracks me up how the kitties come running when its time to milk and you guys are great shots! 😄 Love, love the fur shawl! It's pretty and functional long after the wedding and she'll have beautiful memories each time she wraps it around her. 😍 That was interesting about giving grain to the cows! 👍 Blessings to you and the family! 💜
Ah...good ol' Iowa. You're either melting from heat and humidity or your eyeballs freeze. Either way, glad you and your family is safe as well as the animals.
Another great show! You are positively impacting people around the world for the glory of the Lord. We all are watching Iowa's primary next week. We hope all Republicans get out and vote in mass!
We call German pancakes puffy pancakes in my house. I make them almost every weekend. Watching you and your family has become my favorite Saturday morning ritual! Thank you and God bless!
You are such a good mom and homemaker.. You are living the type of life that I have always wanted. I am now in my 60s and have finally gotten the farm that I have yearned after all my life but we are starting from scratch in many aspects of farm-husbandry and self-sufficiency. I am not new to gardening, cooking, baking, canning, and a little sewing, but had never attempted cheese until I (FINALLY!) got my milk cow a year ago. Cheese is still a work in progress..LOL. I learn new things from you with each episode. I’m sure having the upbringing that you and Elvin had was confining in many ways, but ohhhhhh the skills you’ve picked up,!!! Just absorbing them as a no-big-deal daily life occurrence from your mother and grandmother as experienced mentors. I taught myself bread baking as an adult. It took me quite a while to get a feel for the dough, to know when it felt “right”. I still learn a ton from your bread baking tips and tricks. And I wish I had had your patience with my kids when they were younger, like you do yours. My husband and I both held busy busy long-shift jobs when our kids were small, he as a police officer and I as a ER nurse. Our life was always rather hectic. I would love to go back in time and re-do that part of our lives.. it is one of my biggest regrets.
I think we all have them, no matter what we do there’s always something we wish we’d done “better” at the time. Nothing like hindsight to make you wish you were someone else!
In southern Iowa we have had one blizzard and the temperature is dropping..chores take longer than usual but we have enough to eat and a warm house..our animals are also okay..so much to thank God for..
Ruthann, thank you so much for your video. It fed my soul. Your farm is such a nice size. Good amount of animals. Your children are truly blessed to have you and their father. They are growing up to be good people. Because of your good parenting. So much of this video reminded me of my own childhood here in Iowa. Playing in the snow, making snow ice cream. Building forts. I loved the little pigs running around with the cows. Lol Please keep doing what you are doing. God is good for sure. Your fellow Iowan 🙏🤗
The caramel candy reminds me of a scene from a book I read as a child where they filled pans with snow and drizzled maple syrup on it to make maple candy. Thank you for sharing your snow day with all it's comings and goings.
As I watch this we are in the middle of the temps dropping where I'm at in Iowa also. Oh my, did that wind blow and is still blowing. You are giving your children the "best life". They are learning such wonderful life lessons and they don't even know it. They will be very responsible adults. I always loved snow days when I had children at home. It was so full of great memories.
Loved spending the day with you. It is -8 here in Idaho and so far we have 20 inches of snow. We raised a family of 5 boys and 2 girls. Your videos bring back fun memories to me. ❤
It makes me happy to see that kids still love to play in the snow! Growing up in Colorado we were outside in every snowstorm when I was a kid. We tried to build igloos too but really ended up being walls and of course they protected in snowball fights😂 thanks for reminding me how fun that used to be! I don’t miss the below zero days though (I’m in Arizona now).
This reminded me of my brothers building forts too. They were older and would fill up a milk crate. I think they enjoyed that more than the snowball fight. They were both builders when they grew up. 😊
Hi Ruthann. I live in Wisconsin. I was so shocked when I discovered that powdered aluminum, strontium, and other harmful chemicals are being put into our skies in vapor trails from planes. Please study this subject. When we were kids we used to eat snow, too, but the snow of today is a white, white, which is the powdered aluminum. I love you and your family, due to your great videos, so I want you all to be safe.
RuthAnn and family, 🙏🏼 that y'all stay safe and warm. Watching the boys playing in the snow brought a smile to my face. The barn kitties sure do love their squirts of fresh warm milk. God is good all the time. Blessings to my Zimmerman family/friends.🙏🏼🫂❤️
There isn't anything in this video that I would do or try but I live to just watch you and your family go through their day and all that it takes to run your farm. The animals are so soothing to watch 😍
What a fun day! The little one in the tan coveralls with the ball cap reminded me of pictures of my Dad as a boy when he was feeding his pigs! Such fun in the snow for the boys! 😊 Thank you, Ruth Ann, for another enjoyable video, i look forward to your shares! God bless! ✝️
I know that the animals are not pets and they serve a specific purpose, but even so you always speak so kindly and with love to each of them. It makes my heart smile.
I love your videos. This time I was just curious about the pancakes. I am German and I must confess our Pancakes are quite different. But I will try out your recepie next time. We use about 75g flour, 120ml milk, 1 Egg per person and whisk all together to a batter. Then we make large round flat cakes in a pan - about 2-3 from this amount. Eat with mushed cooked apples (applemus) and cinnamon or jam.
Man, that is COLD! I cannot even imagine it…here in the UK we barely get as much snow as you had on your “milder” day (although the country still instantly grinds to a halt, of course, however little we get…) Some of you folks on the other side of the Pond are so practical and hardy that we cannot but admire you. Stay safe and warm in the current storm, with all best wishes for you to come out the other side without any issues.
Oh Ruth Ann! God is so good! I am laying on our sofa, with the woodstove warming our house! You, and your family work so hard and are a joy to see! The igloo making us a great idea and how the even the young ones work is a joy! The food looks delicious and I will try to make German pancakes for my hunny. I have tears of happiness in my 66 years young eyes! I love you! 💙💚😍💩🧡🥰💖💛🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I am always in awe when I see your children working & playing without complaining. Makes me think that presented with so much love & teaching they thrive. I had an opportunity to buy a cheese press but it's just the two of us and no cows. So hopefully someone else got a wonderful bargain. God bless you and thank you for sharing a bit of your life.
Oh boy, I couldn’t have passed on it !!! It’s just me and I get milk from the Amish, I would still make all the cheese I could !! By chance can you tell me how much they wanted for it ? Blessings
This brings great memories for me. My parents grew up in Canada before they moved to the US in the 60's. When I was a child I remember my dad taking Maple Syrup and boiling it to a soft candy stage. We would take a big pan of clean fresh snow and pour the maple syrup over it as you did with the carmel syrup. We would take a fork and twist up some of the maple taffy what a delicious treat! We always looked forward to snow to share this treat with our family thank you for sharing!
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS i am CANADIAN we get alot of snow and it gets very cold i know what you are going trough your videos are the best its what the world needs to watch the children working together THANK YOU FOR SUCH BEAUTIFUL VIDEOS MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU .
Will you please do a video on starting a sourdough starter from scratch? I love your family values and videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I have learned so much from you. I share your videos with my friends.
So wonderful to see the farm, work, and fun y'all have. We are getting ready for our 1st real winter storm in Texas.... however its nothing like y'all get! Blessings and love ❤
My second grade teacher was from Vermont, and her family had a maple syrup operation. She brought in a sled full of snow and drizzled maple syrup over it and we all got to have a spoonful. Second grade was a looooong time ago, but I still remember this special time.
💚 i grew up in Wyoming, and fondly remember snow days! I live on the Central Coast of California now, and rarely see snow. Very fun to see your Snow Day, thank you. Hope you're keeping everyone warm in the even colder weather now! 💚
Your children are some of the luckiest children in the world! I love watching your videos and your very well behaved kiddos! They will have such sweet memories!
I have to say I truly enjoy watching different lifestyles …… but to be honest I can’t say I’d want to be living them though…. I thoroughly enjoy my flannel sheets, or a cuppa next to our wood-stove in fuzzy slippers until at least 8 a.m. 😏☺️ … I guess different strokes for different folks 😁 Stay warm & safe.
It amuses me to see one of your sons, as he seems to be always holding a cat, he really seems to enjoy them. It reminds me of my grandson who also seems to always have a cat in his arms or at his feet. It's a joy and a blessing to see. God Bless you and yours.
Good Morning ! Thank you for sharing your busy day ...breakfast looks delicious !!! When I was a little girl , my parents would take us to their favorite New England inn during the winter . One year they had a special celebration , with a snow-packed toboggan run , little contests for the kids and a chuck wagon ! I vividly remember the dessert . The maple syrup was cooked to the heavy syrup (?) stage and poured over cups of snow , held in little , eager hands ! It became brittle and chewy, like your caramel sauce...what a treat ! Seeing your family work together and play together is a delight !!!
We long for this type of life! Especially for our son. He's 7 and where we live we dont have much opportunity for him to just be outside and be active. He has 3 younger sisters and watching your boys makes me wish so much that he had a brother like my girls have their sisters. I know God has a plan for him and we pray that someday soon we can have the opportunity to live this way!
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video! You are talented in everything you do and I can't wait to see your cheese-making videos. The boys are very creative and so precious.❤
As always a wonderful video! An extra treat to see the boys so helpful and full of energy! Stay warm and safe! God is good and you and your family are a beautiful blessing to us! 👋🇨🇦
What a wonderful, wholesome life you are providing for your children.....thanks for another great video showing the 'American Dream' that so many would love to have, but don't want to work hard enough to get. 🥰🥰
Wow! You are amazing! I’m exhausted just watching your busy day. You get so much done! Those kids have no idea how blessed they are. The skills they are learning are priceless. Thank you for sharing your day. I hope you all stay warm in the coming weeks. I’m in Indiana and while it’s cold, we don’t get the snow you get where I am in central Indiana. ❤❤
I live in Idaho and I just got back yesterday from a trip to central Indiana to visit my dad. It’s a beautiful state! The rain was really coming down at 7:00 in the morning when we flew out, I guess it turned to snow later on. I got home to it snowing as well and it’s snowed all day and into the night.
hopefully you all are keeping warm and animals are staying safe in this crazy cold weekend! Sending your family love and positivity from southeastern iowa. ❤
I just love watching you and your family. Those boys are so full of energy. I just love them. How many of your children are adopted? I’ve always wanted to adopt but it didn’t happen and once the grandkids came it fulfilled that desire. God is good. Love your farm too. I look forward to your videos every Saturday. God bless you and your family.
I live in Louisiana and the temp on Monday and Tuesday will be in the teens. Imagine us used to sub tropic temp. Holy cow!!!! Thank goodness no snow we would surly be helpless with added precipitation. Ha! Ha! Love your channel, thanks for sharing.
A fun and productive day! Loved seeing your shawls...I'm sure they will be just lovely! I enjoy sewing as well...enjoyed making little short jackets for the bridesmaids for my youngest daughter's wedding several years ago, and then using the fabric scraps in a quilt. Cold weather is always a good time to get sewing, knitting, quilting projects done. We are loving your sandwich bread recipe so much. I look forward to trying your German pancake recipe soon, too! Stay warm! Blessings, Marie
What a productive snow day! Love getting your caramel syrup recipe because it is simple and quick. I think it would taste delicious on bread pudding. You got more snow in Iowa than we did in Illinois, but we got plenty - enough for two snow days. I drive a school bus so I appreciate snow days. Try and stay cold in these brutally cold and windy days coming this weekend and thanks for sharing your family's fun day.
This was wonderful! I may try your Dutch Babies tomorrow! We will be below zero in Southern KY on Monday night. Not looking forward to it but youall are getting far worse. Your homestead, people, animals and property, are in my prayers. ❤
Reminds me of reading the little house on the prairie books. Makes me want to be home on my little piece of land full time. Thank you for sharing so much of your life. You share and teach and fill my heart ❤️
Oh Ruthann i loved this!!! My german grandma made these often with a simple sugar/water syrup. my family doesnt really like them so i dont make them too often but absolutely love them! Your videos take me back to farm life as a kid…thank u ❤
This brings back great memories of my childhood. 22:02 we called this sugar on snow however it was made of full maple syrup heated to a candy state. Love learning from your videos.its wonderful how involved the kids are in the daily chores of the farm. ❤
Oh my gosh! Best Carmel sauce ever. I don’t think I will ever buy any again. So good and so simple. I have not done a german pancake before but had been thinking about it. I had no idea it was so simple So good. I love your channel and how you explain things
I live in Texas now but back in the 60’s we had winter just like you are having now. We milked cows and had a farm near Chariton Iowa. Your activities bring back good memories of growing up on a farm in Iowa. Thank you!!!
Praying your family and animals are ok in this storm. Thank you for a lovely video. I spent the day winterizing the house and garden today in southeast Texas as we prepare for colder weather. Not like your temps, but 19 degrees is a shock in our subtropical climate.
Thank you for this post, I always enjoy watching how you do things, and I learn so much. We’re in southern Alberta, -36 centigrade which is -32 Fahrenheit. So many are experiencing lower than normal temperatures across both Canada and the United States. God bless you and keep you warm until the latest round is over.
Absolutely love it when you share your animals with us. Your German pancakes look delicious. Take care and stay warm. I would love to be able to make bread like you are doing. You make it look so easy but I know it’s all about the yeast is what everyone tells me.
Wow! You had a very full and productive day!! I can only imagine how tired everyone was😊 and we only saw a few minutes of your day!! Blessings on you and your family! I really enjoy watching. I also grew up on a little homestead with my mama doing all the things and us having to help with the chores ❤s❤❤❤❤
Such a great video. We live in SE Iowa and I think they said we got right at 2 feet of snow since Monday night and with the blizzard conditions late yesterday we have VERY tall drifts. Such a refreshing sight to see kids outside playing and having fun doing so. Praying y'all are warm and safe.
Thanks for sharing those wonderful moments. You all work so hard! Always a pleasure to watch and learn from you. Well, 7 pm here in Canada on a Saturday night, after a second snowstorm in 3 days. We received 40 cm of snow (16 in) on Thursday and today … 43 cm (17 in). I’m exhausted:) It is so comforting to watch your videos. Thank you. 🙏
Loved watching this video. Great to see the boys enjoying being outside in the snow. We farmed for many years and relate to all the extra work needed during snowstorms. Stay warm! We live in the Mpls area (south side) and received about an inch of snow. It’s so nice and sparkly this morning.
What a day! You work as hard as the strongest man, doing outside chores only a man should do. But all this hard work will give you (and your children) good health and a long life. I wish I was around to see the wonderful men your boys will become. In all this, I never saw your husband. Great video! May God continue to bless you and yours.
Thank you, Ruth Ann, for sharing your day with us. I don't know what it is, but it is so relaxing watching this video, although in reality, you all are packing a lot into your day! 🥰
Looks delicious. 😁👍 We only got about 3" of snow. Temps are at -28°F to -35°F, with -60°F wind chill. Pretty normal winter up here in Western North Dakota, but we could do without the wind chill being so cold. I think its supposed to be a little warmer for us all in a couple days. So, for now, we'll be greatful for the snow to fill the water ways later.
Having been born and raised in San Diego, I had always wondered how cows, horses, pigs, etc. kept warm in barns on freezing winter nights. Thank you so much for explaining how their metabolism works. Your videos of farm life are fascinating!
I also make a German Pancake we call OFLAF ( Say Off Loff). It’s our Christmas morning treat. Here’s the easy recipe: Preheat Oven to 350@, and throw a stick of butter in a 9 x 12 pyrex pan. Put pan in oven to melt while you mix: 1 1/2 cup flour, 6 eggs, and 1 cup milk, beat until smooth. Vanilla extract and salt are optional, I have never used either. Open oven and pour mixture over the melted butter. Make sure your pan is in the bottom/middle of oven to make room for the rise. Bake 20-25 minutes. Serve w powdered sugar, syrup, or sour cream, jam, and sliced fruits. My pancake rises more than what we see in this video, and It is much browner and rises high above the pan. Each slice is about 3 inches high, probably because my pan is smaller than RuthAnn’s. Like the Zimmerman’s version, It’s all good! Enjoy this special treat!
I know you don’t have favorites with your children but Harrison seems to be more of a mama’s boy. My son was like this when he was younger, and still has a great relationship with him. I love watching your videos and your family. If more families were like this, especially having chores for the children instead of video games and social media, the world would be much better off! Thank you for your cooking videos, skills and wisdom! I live in Mobile, AL -I can’t imagine that much snow!
I feel for you folks with the coming storm.one year, we had the coldest winter WV had seen. And I had 30 chickens, 6 geese, 1 dairy cow, 30 dairy goats and 6 bottle feeding calves. It was rough, but I love my animals❤
Hi RuthAnn and sweet family! The piglets have really grown and I so enjoyed watching the children do their chores and playing in the snow. When we were little my mother made snow cream, it wasn’t ice cream, but it was so good. Your caramel sauce looked delicious, but everything you make looks so delicious. I hope you and your family stay warm and safe. Have a very blessed weekend!

We make snow cream. Special snow treat.

Would love to hear your full story about moving away from legalism to the gospel. We have Mennonite friends down our road that have questions. ❤️

God bless.. 🤗🤗
Oh my gracious, Ruthi! The cats ! for milk! Oh my!! So adorable!! The piggies playing in the snow! All of this is wonderful!
Thank you RuthAnn and family! 🙂

I love how Maxwell loves those cats.
The baby pigs are so cute experiencing the wonder of snow for the first time!
When the boys were milking the cow, the kitties were sitting close by waiting for a squirt of milk. I just found this, soo cute. 😺😺😺
Wowww. The boys' idea to make snow bricks for their igloo is simply AWESOME.

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
i am CANADIAN we get alot of snow and it gets very cold i know what you are going trough
your videos are the best its what the world needs to watch the children working together
THANK YOU FOR SUCH BEAUTIFUL VIDEOS
MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU .
Could you show in a video how to make the cling covers you use for bread making.
My second grade teacher was from Vermont, and her family had a maple syrup operation. She brought in a sled full of snow and drizzled maple syrup over it and we all got to have a spoonful. Second grade was a looooong time ago, but I still remember this special time.
What fun! I sure liked snow a lot more when I was a kid, lol😂
Love seeing kids being kids!🙂
The cats waiting for their milk is so cute❤. I love cats, all animals really but cats are my favorite.
We love snow days! I love how beautiful you make motherhood and homesteading.
As always a wonderful video! An extra treat to see the boys so helpful and full of energy! Stay warm and safe! God is good and you and your family are a beautiful blessing to us! 👋🇨🇦
Would love to have a milk cow, BUT I think I would need one of those mini milkers!
Great video. Thats how I grew up. Now I'm old and can enjoy watching you put in a full day. Its a very satisfying way of life.
In two words, you're awesome! I am a "little" older than you, and you teach me so much every week! You have a beautiful family!!!
This video is WONDERFUL. Thank you!
I remember my boys loved to build snow forts when they were little, this brought back wonderful memories of times past.
those pigs are absolutely adorable haha I wish my nieces could grow up like this..including important responsibilities that come along
You are so blessed Ruthanne. You are living the perfect life. children, beautiful home, loving family. Blessings to you and yours.
Thank you so very much for sharing your family life! I thank you and your family for sharing life on your Homestead! God bless all there !
What a beautiful life you have created ❤ Your hard work is admirable and your kids are going to be wonderful adults !!!
Blessings
I had no idea it was so simple
So good.
Such sweet boys! And hard workers, all of them.
You have no idea ,what joy you have blessed me.Your sharing your lives is so inspiring.
That's the one recipe I have memorized. We ate it every Saturday morning my entire life at home. Still love them!
I just love all your farm animals! Your family has such a good relationship with them!
Thank you. 🙏
Every day is an adventure for you & your family. I love watching you every chance i get. Thank you for being so gracious with your time
Loved watching this video. Great to see the boys enjoying being outside in the snow. We farmed for many years and relate to all the extra work needed during snowstorms. Stay warm! We live in the Mpls area (south side) and received about an inch of snow. It’s so nice and sparkly this morning.
I loved this video. What a precious woman you are. Your children are incredible. I love how you reward their hard work.
What a day! You work as hard as the strongest man, doing outside chores only a man should do. But all this hard work will give you (and your children) good health and a long life. I wish I was around to see the wonderful men your boys will become. In all this, I never saw your husband. Great video! May God continue to bless you and yours.
A perfect day of work and play. Your bread love so beautiful.
Thank you, Ruth Ann, for sharing your day with us. I don't know what it is, but it is so relaxing watching this video, although in reality, you all are packing a lot into your day! 🥰
We enjoy German Pancakes as well! Usually with frozen raspberries or blueberries or fresh in the summer. And, our own maple syrup to finish.
Here’s the easy recipe:
Preheat Oven to 350@, and throw a stick of butter in a 9 x 12 pyrex pan. Put pan in oven to melt while you mix:
1 1/2 cup flour, 6 eggs, and 1 cup milk, beat until smooth.
Thank you for sharing. Looks very easy.
Harrison is RuthAnns "natural" son. A surprise pregnancy. Kendrick and the other boy are adopted.
I pray you and your family and animals are safe and warm in the coming winter storm. ❄️🧊🥶
