I'll guarantee you that Jacobs won't pose any realistic threat to Bolts record. If he can remain injury free and all goes well with his game plan, I can see him running a PB of 9.72. There's just no replacement for the long strides and power which Bolt had.
Agreed, I think the only person who has a realistic chance of getting close is Erriyon Knighton, but we’ll see
To me, I don't see anyone in our generation (legally) breaking Bolts 9.58 record. Now if Blake didn't go down hill like he did, he could've seriously challenged Bolts 19.19 200M record because we saw him run run that 19.25
I would say Knighton and Terrence Jones have the best chance.
@@cliffordhill2365 Issue is JADCO were not testing their athletes building up to 2012. Sad fact.
@@cliffordhill2365 19.26 but yeah you're right. His reaction time in that race was very bad he could have broken 19.19 with a better reaction time.
Let me tell you this, 'no one is going to break Bolt's record in the next 2 or 3 decades in the 100 & 200 meter'. It's just that Marcell Jacobs won the olympics out of no where that's why people are talking about him breaking the WR. His pb is 9.80 & from the last 8-9 years, no one even has dipped under 9.7 in the 100. 9.58 is easily 20-30 years far
actually yohan blake has a 9.69

Usain Bolt is a one-of-a-kind sprinter. And I'm truly blessed to be part of the generation who witnessed all his legendary achievements. Someone will eventually break his world records.... but not any time soon.
Tall man with a short man's stride turn over...unbeatable
@@deeblue984 tall man with insane muscle stride. Even short people don't have the quads that he has.
He is built like a linebacker but with legs of a cheetah. At 41 pace for 100M he is literally taking less than 1 stride per 2 meters. He is skipping over 8 feet distances every stride. And at a rate of 41 stride under 10 secs which would mean he's talking 0.25 seconds per stride.
Usain Bolt's legs literally "twitch" once every 1/4th of a second carrying over 200 lbs of body weight.
Exelente!
Hoje já corro abaixo dos 10 segundos, mas nem perto de chegar aos 9.58, mas já é uma vitória, sou muito novo ainda.... Melhorar dia após dia é a minha meta.
Remember, Bolt holds the second fastest time, too, at 9.63.
He shares the third fastest time with two others at 9.69, also.
It's strange bolt had no more in sub 9.69s range that london time bolt actually made quite many mistakes miss stepped and overstride on line it could been sub 9.6s easily. We would probably see like 9.65s in 2011 if he didn't DSQ. Just after 2012 he was not able to ran close to 9.7s. Well conditions were not ideal after that either.
Jacobs is definitely a dominant sprinter and will have amazing times throughout the rest of his career. And while I do think Bolt’s record can be broken, it won’t be by Jacobs.
Erriyon Knighton, please remember that name. If anyone does he will. That kid is legit, very explosive, plus high top end speed. At 6'3" with good stride length and high turnover, barring injury or his head swelling, he is going to break both.

@@TheoOJamaloO1 If one runs sub 9.63 like 9.59-9.62, I would consider him as a contender. But honestly, 9.65 isn't close to 9.58. You know what, Usain Bolt is a freak of nature who combined practically everything but phenomenal reaction time.
I hear the latest PEDs are pretty good, and are undetectable by current testing methods, so who knows, but I doubt he will break any of Bolts records!
Bolt just has all the features. The height, the physique, the way he strides, the movement of this legs in corelation to his arms, and other features...man he is THE GOAT.

Doesn't seem to be in the discussion at all to me.
@@luigimanzelli3786
Knighton is the only man with a shot of getting close to 9.58 on his best day. I say in the next 5 to 10 years. He will break Bolt's 200 m record. And become only the 2nd man to run sub 9.69. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
To be fair Bolt decreased his times in 100m with 0.34 in one year but he also started running 100m just the year before so there is a lot of improvements that can be made in the beginning compared to running 100m for ten years then suddenly becoming much faster
It was the power and fluidity combination in Bolt's 9.58 that still fascinates me today whenever I watch a re-run of it. He ran like a grizzly bear in full flight to my eyes. And they can FLY for anyone who thinks of them as slow ambling animals.
I don't see Jacobs breaking the WR, but a high 9.60 is possible when we see that he has improved so greatly in the 60m from last year
High 60's? I hope you're joking.
@@wiiiz3 Why? , he improved 7 hundreds in the 60 from last year and there is no reason to think that won't carry over to the 100. But he is a championship runner and the only places i see him doing it this year is either Munchen or Eugene

@@JT-km6th Jacobs is strongest in the last part of the 100m and he still is top 5 in history in the 60 also beating Coleman who is stongest in that part of a 100m
Well let's see here
Usain Bolt in his world record produced extremely quick acceleration (even quicker than that of Christian Coleman) and just behind the inspirational Su Bingtian. Marcell Jacobs however, is already around a meter behind Usain Bolt at the 60m mark. Usain Bolt's maximum top end speed surpasses 12.42 m/s roughly and he maintained it brilliantly in his race with an extremely special finishing speed of 3.27. For context, look at Noah Lyles who is a 19.5 sprinter with among the very best top end speeds and finishes recent time. His best finishing speed is 3.37. If Bolt and Lyles were head to head at the 60m mark in one race with their best finishes, Usain Bolt is already making up a meter ahead of Noah Lyles just over 3 seconds later past the 60m. That's only just 40m. Everyone knows how much of a difference a meter is in sprinting in the 100m. A flying 40m which is more than 3 seconds and making up a meter is an extremely huge gap.
Marcell Jacobs clearly doesn't have the ability to accelerate quicker than a 2018-2019 Christian Coleman. Coleman is a focused 60m sprinter after all so this puts Jacobs already in huge trouble. If his best finish is 3.39, that's WAY too far away from Usain Bolt's finishing speed. Usain Bolt was an exception that was above and beyond at what everyone else imagined before 2008. He was able to accelerate absurdly quickly with his massive size and long strides and he's able to use them along with his excellent speed maintenance to finish the race. Do not get me wrong I know Jacobs himself is phenomenal yeah but he's going to have to be an exception and find something truly unique and spectacular. He already has phenomenal technique and form but Usain Bolt was a freak of nature who's quite literally Su Bingtian quickest start+Tyson Gay's best finish (6.29+3.31) and we might not see somebody like him anytime soon. Go see the difference between Powell, who ran a 9.85 and Bolt who of course ran 9.58 in this link ua-cam.com/video/LoQq1-_3F-A/v-deo.html this view tells a lot of things, trust me.
Marcell Jacobs as I said is phenomenal though. He's definitely capable of running below 9.75 and perhaps 9.70 but sub 9.75 is almost a guarantee.

Bolt's improvements were nuts. Absolutely nuts.
But he was young! He was a teenager the first time he ran in the olympics and he was 23 when he established the current WR. Jacobs is already 28.
A couple of annoying things is Bolt eased up way before the line on the 9.69 run and also shut down before the line on his 200m WR. Who knows what he could of done if he had run through.
I also thought Yohan Blake would continue to improve but instead has faded badly.
I think that was his 19.32s where he stopped running knowing he could not beat 19.19s he could like done 19.25s and he had back pain so he didn't want to risk injury.
We going to see many up and coming Italian kid sprinters b/c of this amazing guy. GO Italy 🇮🇹 your fun from north Ethiopia 🇪🇹
I like Jacob's especially being Italian. I believe he is capable of a 9.75 or so but not Bolt's 9.58. He is 27/28 so it's a bit late for 9.5 type improvement . He is formidable.

The answer is no. Bolt’s records will eventually be broken but it won’t be by Jacobs. Whoever it is that will break them, when they’re on the come up, every one will know that if that athlete stays healthy, they could do it. It’s going to take an amazingly special athlete to break those records.
And you know something it still won't be broken.
Jim Hines did 9.9 at altitude in Mexico City, a big advantage. Steve Williams ran 9.9 (albeit hand times) half a dozen times in the 70s. People forget how great he was. A sort of proto Bolt with crazy long strides - he had a slow start but it looked like the rest of the field was standing still in the last 25m such was his top speed.
He has to enjoy his time... running for himself achieve his own goals and have fun...we haven't actually won any Olympic medal or world cup but he does...so amazing guy...I hope he still winning as long as this sport makes fun for him...
it always annoys me when people use his 9.41 in training to compare it to Bolt's 9.58. In that 9.41, he was shielded from the wind, so it was effectively almost the same as running with a +11 tailwind the whole time
With that wind-shield, wouldn’t he be running in a near-zero relative wind, which would equate to a tailwind equivalent equal to his ground speed ?

Can’t agree. Jacobs previously ran 9.80 in the 100m. Now he’s improved his 60m from 6.49 to 6.41. He’ll go 9.7 low indefinitely

Someone rode a bicycle 184 mph having the wind blocked and being sucked along the same way as Jacobs. Also Gatlin ran something like 9.26 with a 40 mph tail wind provided by a bunch fans blowing him along. Bolt ran into a headwind in his WR 100 meter..

Great analysis and comparison!
Great analysis and commentary.
To me, Jacobs is like a one-hit wonder. Yes he won the Olympic 100 last year, I'll give him that. But I don't consider him a dominant sprinter among his peers right now. He just hasn't shown that consistency. This year his fastest 100 time is 10.04. That won't get him anywhere close to the podium at Worlds this year. Probably wont even get him a spot in the finals.
He was injured a lot
P
He still is 60 m indoor world champion also
He’s just won the European games …and 4 of the most important medals available in the last 18 months . He didn’t win the world championship because injuried and he had to retire . He won anything else available in the track
This aged terribly. But it was actually BS even a month ago, so…
Marcell Jacobs is a phenomenal sprinter and I expect great times from him, I really think he can dip under 9.70 eventually. I'd be extremely surprised if he can get below 9.65 and I think it's almost impossible he beats Bolt

The only one that I can see that can challenge one of the Bolt's records is Erriyon Knighton in the 200mts, besides him, I believe that no one will be able to come close to the records for a very long time. I think that Jacobs maybe can run a 9.72 or a flat 9.7 at the best with good conditions

About technology getting better you forgot to mention the seven-league shoes.
I think the achievement of Jacobs (and others in sprint and prolonged sprint, see the 400hs male and female) is in the ability to exploit to the maximum, with his long jumper's running style with high knees, these shoes. I'm quite sure all the technology to monitor his steps and time of contact has this goal.
So if they will be able to put stronger springs in the shoe soles Bolt's record will be in trouble.
Look what Bolt thinks of these shoes (article appeared in the Italian press just after Jacobs' victory in Tokyo).
I think he talked about going back to racing just to see the effect of these shoes.

Great work. I think your context around Bolt going from 10 sec to 9.69 a year after starting running 10ms might make Marcel’s move from 10 sec to 9.8 more suspicious though. He had done the 100ms for so long and yet had not broken the 10s barrier. What changed so quickly within a year for him ti figure out? On the other hand, Bolt had just started running the 100ms and therefore that drop could have been due to the initial learning that would increase performance much quickly. If he had run 100ms for years and then suddenly seen that performance increase, then that would be more suspicious.
@federico cherubini I see. Thank you!

Y'all still don't get it, Usain Bolt is not from this freaking planet nobody will ever get near 9:58 unless they using PED's.
Majority of athletes are using peds at the top
Incredible
I used to think that there was a golden height ratio for sprinting fast after watching a lot of guys sprinting playing football. I used to see speed diminish when a player got over the 6ft 3 mark. But Bolt smashed that expectation that really tall guys can't be fast.
I think y’all under estimating this world record ,😂😂🇯🇲 anyways good luck on trying, nothing try nothing done so good luck 👍
after 24 years of age you can't improve reaction times or contraction speed, unless you trained horribly bad before that, with the exception of PED use. Looking at all that stats Jacobs even on the best PED's has a cap of 9.70 ish. Record sprinting should be for taller/faster and more technical version of bolt, which lets be real we wont see for another 20 years at least. Bolt is such a genetic rarity that, no offense with Marcell, but putting him in the same league is absurd
Totally agree! Look, Marcell might get close if he really abuses PEDs (even more than he already does) but I can't see him touching Bolts records!

This is way too premature of a comparison, with his best time in the 100 meters at 9.80, when so many other sprinters hit the 9.7 mark.
Had he did 9.70 or 9.60 then we could have that conversation.
Here in the Bahamas we are always watching track and field....so until then we welcome a new world record.. Good luck to all new comers
Very good analysis. It's going to be challenging but not impossible. What man has done, man can do. If Marcel remains focus he can break the record.

Usain bolt has rare physical gifts and people forget that he slowed down to celebrate during the world record
Jacobs form changed so much from 2018 to 2021. It was better training equipment, better nutrition and better race theory.
Also him reconciling with his father, mentally speaking.
In 2019 he stopped his carreer as long jumper. So he don't need to be so thin.
And better peds

He won't drop below 9.70. I'm predicting if all goes well with him, one day he'll top out at 9.72

Yes, massive click-bait, but it is funny that you should mention Tyson Gay running 9.69. If you watch that Bolt 9.58 race, Gay actually ran 9.72 (a personal best). Seems very pro jacobs in begening. The rate of change in 100m time for Usain and Jacobs isn't relative due to the races they were running the year before. Too be soo fast in the 100m you need the strength and insurance to be great at the 200m and 400m. This is Bolt not Jacobs. He is older and has the doping scandle. This makes me believe he will not ever be able to set a 100m wr. Bolt will come back first and he'll have to beat Bolt to do it
Especially when they go on the pro circuit, young sprinters are running a crazy number of races. Abby Stein for example end of the world championship running 57 races including her college career. It did get her a $2 million shoe contract with Puma. However, not sure what running four times as many races as her typical competitors will do over the course of her budding career.

Nice clickbait but stop dreaming, Not now or ever. breaking 9.50 is already copium for the entire field and Jacobs will be lucky to ever get in the 9.6's . besides he hasn't even got into the 9.7 range yet slow your roll. Did you expect this video to actually get positive feedback? Why do you even have a platform to speak on you sound so uneducated about sprinting, you literally said it's not impossible because technology is getting better. Yeah right a 9.80 sprinter is gonna run 9.4 because of shoes improving in quality.
edit: how are you not embarrassed with yourself for making such a bad video and putting it on your channel? It's like making a video about cooking and burning your food.
Of course, the record will fall. And the answer why is simple: technology, equipment, surfaces...all trimmed to new records. If they compete all under exactly the same conditions, records will hold much longer. And thats valid for pretty any sport.
Re Jacobs, don't underestimate his ability to improve significantly with age. It's a different time, especially considering improvements in shoes and track surfaces. I was just watching Bob Hayes win the 100 meters in the Tokyo Olympics. It was a cinder track! I ran high-school track from '66 to '68 on mostly cinder surfaces. It's almost inconceivable that we used to run on that. Just horrible.
He will nerve break that record
Bolt could have ran 9.4…. In that 9.69 race if he didn’t celebrate that early
Nope. Not even close. The fastest it could possibly have been is 9.62. it's very simple. The 10 metre segment splits are recorded for the race. Replace the last two 10m splits with the fastest ever recorded, which isn't actually possible over the last 20m, and it's impossible for that race to be any faster than 9.62. it just "appears" as though he slowed down more than he truly did. It was still an absurd display of speed of course.
yeah bro not even close lmao
For sure!!!!✅
No!!!! He would've ran 9.25!!!
Ok seriously shut up. It would've been 9.62 at best. Maybe if someone were to push him (Tyson Gay) with actual tied shoelaces we could've seen 9.59-9.61 but it is what it is.
Nah
We should also take into an account that Ussin Bolt while achieving that record was not full tryhard but was fooling around while nearing the finish line I stead of leaning forward to be as best as he could.
That’s where bolts time is 6’5 height ! His strides are crazy !
Breaking records shows good once in a life time occasions, getting gold medals shows good winning consistencies
