If he is healthy he can be the very best. When he ran that 9.80 after an indoor season of 6.47. I think if he stayed healthy after that 6.41 he would be able to run deep into the 9.7. So everything depends on his health.

who isn't at that level? most PEDs can give up to 20% performance enhancement, the mere fact that you think a talented hue-man can compete with another talented hue-man who is doped up shows evident ignorance, clearly you have never tried a banned substance otherwise you'd know without a shadow of a doubt that a doped athlete AT PRO LEVEL should blow a 'clean' athlete out of the water, like perhaps, a very gifted 'clean' athlete runs 10.09 and a doped athlete runs 9.85. ALL of these guys are taking at the very least some form of PED to aid in recovery. Most of these guys are taking new substances (specifically made for them) that are NOT on the banned list and thus cannot be tested for or they're taking banned substances under prescription from their doctor due to some "medical condition." One simply CANNOT stay healthy doing workouts that get you to the finals at the world championship...if these guys were fully clean, breaking the 10-second barrier would need 'shoe doping' (super shoes designed to increase speed) or it ain't happening since 100% of them would be at home injured prepping for surgery.

@LordFingers1 The fact that he has never missed or failed a test is not enough for people to conjecture. He is only half African American but there are a number of good sprinters who are only half African descended.

He was. Now he’s back to being ordinary and having to use “injuries” to avoid having to compete and get smoked by the legit top guys. He’s back to the 10+ guy he always was until his doped triumph.

@wesleygambill8259 He is a citizen of Italy and was raised there. His parents met in Texas but his father was in the Army and sent off to Korea so his mother decided to go back to Italy to be with her relatives while Lamont was still very young. His parents lost touch and Lamont did not reunite with his father until just before the Tokyo Olympics.
Contrast that with Armand Duplantis the world record pole vaulter. He is Swedish-American. Duplantis' mother is Swedish and his father is Cajun but he spent a lot of time in the USA and grew up speaking English. He only recently felt he had developed his Swedish language skills enough to respond to interviews in Swedish. Jacobs grew up speaking Italian and does not speak much English.
As far as Italian interest in the sprints they have a long tradition of producing some of the fastest in Europe. Pietro Mennea won the Olympic 100m gold medal in 1978.
Filippo Tortu (born 15 June 1998) is an Italian sprinter with a personal best in the 100 meters of 9.99, the first Italian in history to break the 10 second barrier .. He won the bronze medal in the 200m European Championships in 2022.
Samuele Cecarelli won the European Indoor 60 m in March, 2023.
