I need you guys to do a custom line of aquarium lids. Please. Please. Please.
I actually prefer the light behind the hinge because it makes the tank look brighter
N+1
Agreed
Yep
I prefer the light forward. Doing so, lights my mbuna more when they are swimming near the front. This also dims the background giving the illusion of depth beyond the glass.
Everyone needs a friend like Dean.
Bonus tip- wipe the score line with a wet cloth or sponge before the snap. Creates a cleaner break with less dust "spray."
I wish I had a buddy like Dean. Would make all my projects go faster. If Corey ever helped his would go faster also. 😊
who's gunna record the great content tho
Love a “Dean” video, always learn something
These are my absolute favorite kind of videos! I love learning these simple tips that aren’t just common knowledge or that can’t just be googled. The diys that make this hobby even more enjoyable because it makes things more efficient. Keep them coming!
To wet sand, you can put some water onto the sandpaper. I do this all the time for fine sanding. Great tutorial !
I personally have no current need for this knowledge but I still enjoyed the heck out of watching the tutorial.👍🏼
WOW!! I would make the cut glass just a little smaller, but that is me ....great demo
Always a pleasure to watch videos with Dean in it.
Loved the commercial ❤ "No false bottom Hikari"
This video inspires me to want to make some of these!
Fly me to town, we could do all of your tanks, I need a trip to SF. 🙂
@@deansfishroom LOL! Maybe…if we can build an auto water change system. Hahahaha!
@@TazawaTanks anythings possible. I think the bottom of your lowest tank is about the level of the sump we put in before.
"Mod Zenzo's Fishroom 2.0"
I just wanted to say thank you for the videos you make! ❤
I realised that when you guys ask what type of videos we like I always give my say, watch them and then rematch later but never give you guys the thank you you deserve!
Much love, fellow nerms
Brilliant. It’s also great to have friends to help out.
Fluval Ain't hot Dean! Fluval's trippin!
We need a Fluval's trippin shirt.
Thanks for showing how to do it right 👍💚
light behind the hinge to show off more depth, and the tones/shadows in the fish and foreground
This is my favorite DIY thing you've ever done. Def doing this!
Perfect for vacation!
One tip is to wet the sandpaper before sanding. That helps stop glass particles from being kicked up into the air
Love this! You guys are awesome!
I worked in a mirror shop a while ago cutting bulk sheets of mirror 144"× 88" sheets. Great cutting Dean and Cory!
Appreciate the need to have the handle exactly centered on the lid using a tape measure!
I laugh so hard with the "commercial breaks"!
These are the best kind of videos!! Love practical info!!
Very cool! This is the kind of stuff I wish my dad had taught me.
This was so much fun to watch. 😄
PLZ Do more of this
Woo! Thank y'all for sharing this fantastic knowledge!
I wonder if you could replace the small piece of glass with a grate, and have the food fall through it from the auto feeder. It would be a bit messier and a hassle to put frozen food in, but it might help with tanks of jumpers.
Love it! I learned to cut glass a couple years ago making picture frames. Paired with some delicate hammer work and some old wood windows I made 2 lids for a 10 and 40 breeder. Cory has helped me in the sense of "use what you have" "do I really NEED this?"😂 Love tinkering with y'all.
I could watch you and Dean hanging out working on stuff all day!
Love you guys 😂 Dean works well with everyone, Cory works well with everyone, but together it's great chemistry. Saw that generosity towards LRB, Cory... Very nice 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 love this hobby and its true industry leaders
The aqueon versatop for 75 gallons have a thin strip on the front to open for feeding and the back piece is larger.
About 1/3 in the front and 2/3 behind
I get rid of the hinge and use packing tape across the two pieces of glass. The hinge gets in the way of light.
Yes! I wish they would make that hinge clear 🤔
What a coincidence! I have a hexagon tank and was gonna head to Lowe's or Home Depot to see if they can make me a lid.
Always a pleasure to watch the team of Masters at work!!! ❤
Super Cool Tutorial!!!!!!
This video inspired me to do this with my tanks it worked perfectly this video was amazing!!!
DEEEEAAAN!! YAAAY!! Thank you @Aquarium Co-Op!!
wow. wisdom oozing out of Dean.
Been in the hobby over 60 years l love your videos.Watching you and Dean interact is great fun, a combination of knowledge, experience and a little bit keystone cops, keep up the good work guys.😊
You mean I asked what grit before you even released the full video!?
Cory was right, someone was going to ask. 😂
I taught myself how to cut glass when I started a business in the Caribbean back in the 90's. Be confident with your cuts, respect the glass and protect yourself - Great Job!
Love the commercial break! 😂😂😂👍
Always more Dean!
I’d watch any video with Dean and Cory , Love the natural banter between them ! I’m stuck with a solid plastic lid with the light attached on the underside of the lid. I had my husband cut the lid horizontally across, so when I clean and do water changes I can leave the back 2/3 with the light on the tank so I can see into he tank. What a stupid design ! I don’t have the tank near a window, on cloudy days it’s sucked hanging clip on lights to the glass tank. No top frame. He bought the tank for me 😮 . So he had no problem doing the lid. It’s a 36 gallon bow front. Very deep. I’m going to put up with it a bit longer. But keeping my eye on shorter longer tank. I don’t want to invest $100 in a new lid when I’m going to switch out. I’ll sell as is, to a taller person than I am. 😂. Husband shopped at big box store 2020 😮 , did not want to be a whiner so I just thanked him and set it up. Short people have no reason to live , haha Randy Newman song 😂. Nice to have men in the hobby that have all the tools and understand the problems , making videos for us. Thanks guys. From 5 ‘ 1” woman in Indiana
love the videos with Dean!!!
Absolutely Awsome tutorial on glass cutting, I’ll have to save this video for future tank lid projects. 🙌🏼
This is so great!!! I use plastic wrap to seal all the edges after a couple of gouramis jumped through VERY small holes. Corey’s tanks look so much cleaner and neater…especially with those low profile lights.
Going to try this today!
Nice to have help
Thanks for this video. I have a very oddly sized tank and can not find a hinged glass lid that will fit it. I was thinking about buying two lids and cutting them to size so that I would have two lids. This video is the motivation I needed to cut the glass on the lids. Hope it works.
Warns about glass dust, but no mask in sight.😂
Has a cousin pass recently from the damage to his lungs from breathing in fibreglass.
So this stood out for me.
Great video.
I have no place to get glass cut where I live.
I’ll try this…..wearing a mask.
I have my light elevated on my tank for the pothos growing out of the tank… so I put my auto feeder under the light using the double sided tape provided with it and cut the rear plastic strip instead
You can make your own plexiglass lid that is much easier to cut and customize, and it's a lot easier to move out of the way when you want to work in your tank. Won't break, chip, or crack.
Won't that start bending at some point? Glass feels too fragile for me but everytime I look more info on plexiglass or plastic tops I see people saying it's not strong enough to hold in the long run
@@bunnyfishstoriesyes. I worked in plastics for a very long time and acrylic will definitely sag. I would recommend twin wall greenhouse panels, instead.
Wish we had those type of tanks with rims and tanktops... The envy is real
Wow, the roman numerals joke got me!
Dean is always so exited to do some product placement 😂
Wow those anubias have grown a bunch since we last saw that tank.
The integrity of the hat 😂
STRONGLY suggest the following to anyone out there that's considering cutting their own glass:
- Safety goggles (not glasses)!
- Cut-resistant gloves!
- Wet sandpaper or sand the edges under a running tap!
These three simple precautions will greatly reduce the risk of cutting yourself or glass dust getting in your eyes/lungs.
Thanks for the tip. I was wondering about goggles
This video has definitely inspired me to do this to my tanks!!
The myth, the legend, Dean the man! With the quick maths!
Seems like a huge cutout just for the auto feeder. I think a custom 3D printed attachment that goes on the auto-feeder and can "funnel" the food into a small drilled hole in the lid would be better if you're scared of fish jumping. All you'd need is a diamond drill bit.. And a 3D printer lol
Sure, but we create videos for people to do world wide. Not everyone is going to have those. Plus I want the hole large enough to hand feed easily also.
@@AquariumCoop Yeah as I finished typing that I realized it's much more practical to just make the cutout bigger lol as this appeals to a broader audience. Which is what this channel is all about. Big fan of you guys!
Definitely Magic
I would invest in some cheap slash proof gloves with steel weave. I use showa s-tex 376, they are about £8. Way better and safer than hide riggers gloves, decent dexterity through them.
I have thought about cutting glass before but chickened out, i might try it one day now, thanks.
Id buy that aquarium co-op tee inna hearbeat :)
You got me excited for the food cubes commercial. I ran over to see if they were back in stock…sigh
This video is really helpful!!
Yeah, we apologize that they are not yet in stock. We expect to have them in a couple of weeks. ~ Zenzo
Great informational video! Nothing against Cory but, I love the videos with Dean in them. He makes anything stressful look like fun.
My 75 gallon has the shorter glass in the front. Definitely makes it easier to feed and don’t have to move the light every time.
I live in Australia and want to set up some tanks to breed tropicals. What size tank to you recommend [ inches or cm not just volume ] for Angels and guppies etc, all the most common stuff?
I want to try this on my 20L so I can side mount a filter for side-side flow.
Dean was trippin in that hat. Can't believe he made it that far wearing it 😂😂
After spending $50 on a lid, not sure if I would want to risk breaking the glass. Thinking of making a lid myself but would get a glass shop to do it. Ps. Love Dean's shirt. Has sort of a 70s vibe to it. I'd love one
You guys should do a video on white cloud mountain minnows
Looks good Dean I like it
Did the eleven tops that followed go as smoothly? Any tips to easily remove the glass from the hinge? I feel I may have less chance for breakage if I'm able to also score the glass hidden inside the hinge.
I'm wondering if a Dremel could be used to cut the hinge without removing the glass?
YAY!! Dean!!!
We ❤ Dean!!!!!
very smart guy.
What glue did you use for the e hinge?
I made a lid with acrylic
It bowed
Then I added aluminum frame
Used a metal hinge and used gorilla double sided tape
It is coming off
I need to make a new lid with glads
I have a question, is there any kind of extra light i can affix to my fishtank hood? It came with LED lights but its not too bright so I'd like to add to it-cheaply lol. If you have any ideas, can you do a video?
Would love to get some freeze dried food. But looks like you’re already sold out. When are you going to be restocked?
Would these lids help stop mold from forming in a basement?
You'd have to test it. Because there's a direct path from the feeder to the water, you can probably have a smaller cutout. Maybe even a circle cutout.... If not tempered. The spread was bigger because it was hitting a flat surface.
We did 4 tests of 5 feedings and full and half empty barrel of food onto paper to determine the spread.
Any chance you can tell me where in the world I can find that plastic backstrip?! Cannot believe it’s been impossible for me to find! TIA
Awesome
Have you tried cutting glass before? What did you think of this custom lid that Cory and Dean came up with?
Here is our auto feeder that is featured in this video: www.aquariumcoop.com/products/fish-food-autofeeder
Yes, as a glassblower and building windshields.
Bonus tip- Wipe the score line with a wet cloth or sponge before the snap for a cleaner break with less glass "spray"
I tried cutting glass but it did most of the cutting
@@phreakerbythespeaker9902 whats the logic behind that ?
@@vasili1207 try Google
Ohhhh i always thought the ball was for emergency situations 😅
Whatever happened to the twin tube versa tops. Small glass in front and wider in the back
Haha love it
I'd like to but a strip of the plastic strip / hinge. What is it called? I am in the UK. Is it called something different here? TRying to get a lid on a second hand Juwel 180 vision with a broken lighting middle strip - can't afford a replcement. Thanks for any help.
I know this is off topic and I’m watching 4 days after it was aired. But I’m having a terrible time with my angles. I’m seriously considering giving up on them after growing them up for two years. If u think you could help I would pay for a consultation if that is possible.
Thank, Liz
You can buy cheap gloves to mess around with glass. FYI if no one has mentioned it
Great❤ sorry my English ist Not so good
What did Fluval do?
Another pro tip... Wear gloves while cutting and sanding glass, kids.
OK chào bạn chúc bạn ngày mới vui vẻ 👍👍👍
Where is the rest of this video?
I need all the supplies needed, such as type of hinge, the back tape ges referencing, etc.
A
How funny about the integrity check lol 😂
I need to make a lid for my 4 foot long tank
