I have spotlight cam plus camera. The flood lights really only made sense to me if you have a large dark area like a backyard or front yard. I live in a more urban area and the excess light will definitely annoy neighbors. We have plenty of near by street lights as well (I.e light pollution).

The primary advantage I can think of with the new Spotlight Cams (Plus and Pro) is with regard to power options: if there's no junction box or A/C outlet nearby (to use with a plug-in mount), you can't install a Floodlight Cam, but you could install a Spotlight Cam and power it using batteries only or batteries with a solar panel. This is, of course, if the lower light output would still suffice for the situation.
Because the newer plug-in versions of Spotlight Cam run on DC and use the new USB-C indoor-outdoor power adapter, there's also the possibility of running the DC portion of the wire (after the transformer) through an exterior wall, if an indoor outlet is available: in most areas of the US, it's against electrical codes to run high-voltage AC cords through a wall, so the Floodlight Cam with plug-in mount couldn't be used in this way, but the Spotlight Cam could be, so long as it were only the low-voltage DC part of the cord run through the wall.
It may be overall cheaper and more effective, however, to just pair something like a Stick Up Cam with a solar wedge light (Ring-brand or third-party) if the area receives sufficient daylight and the owner doesn't mind the installation of two separate devices: some solar wedge lights run well over 800 lumens, whereas Spotlight Cam Pro apparently tops out at around 375.

I just purchased the Spotlight Cam Plus (plug-in) for inside my rear porch. The lights are great and it's smaller in looks than the Floodlight cam.
@@spacecoastz4026 thank you for this feedback: it's just in time, actually, as I've ordered Spotlight Pro cams a couple of days ago to replace a few external Stick-Up cams I currently have and to add one to an additional side of my house. The main reason I'm upgrading is that Spotlight Cam apparently has a louder speaker and siren compared to Stickup Cam. The areas already have Ring smart lights and one has low-voltage lighting, but having the lights on the camera as an additional light source is reassuring in case my bridge or low-voltage transformers are acting up. I'm glad to hear that the lights on them are solid: 375 lumens is around that of a 40-watt bulb, if I'm not mistaken, and it's at 3500K, which is still quite a bit of illumination for an otherwise-dark area.

Hah no worries 🙂 There are _some_ cases where the Spotlight Cam is okay (I guess.. 😆), but if you want a good light, and have a wired connection available, the Floodlight Cam is pretty sweet.

There are so many Ring cameras. But I bought a Wyze V3 because it has a micro USB memory option, so I can review my history without cost. I do have a Ring doorbell, because it works so well with Alexa Echo Show as an intercom. I have nighttime illumination so videos are really good. I got both because thieves to rip off the Ring Doorbell, it's just plastic and easy to rip off. My Wyze V3 is above my porch light and hard to see. It's just a backup for peace of mind. I recently had a burglary when I was home, so this is a very serious need for me.

I wouldn't rule out the "pointless camera" only because if you already have 1 of the floodlight versions connected to your electrical|box, you wouldn't want to have a highly and potential fire hazard.
I only mention this because I'm adding more cameras to my property. Going from 2 doorbell cameras, 3 stick ups and the one floodlight above my garage...to adding 3 additional "pointless cams" to cover the blind spots. Front yard and both sides of home. Possibly an additional one for the backyard to replace the doorbell at the backdoor.
The plan is to drill into the wall and feed the cord provided into the home and plug 🔌 into the wall outlet. To keep it safe.

Very useful thanks. I’m going through that dilemma at the moment. Watching your video I think I will stick with the cheaper ring indoor cam that I have watching the back patio doors and buy one one more like yourself for the inside of the garage. We do have a professional installation of a wired over Ethernet CCTV SYSTEM around the exterior of the house and an alarm system so just a little extra protection with notifications. Great vid. However, I'd argue that Spotlight Cams aren't totally pointless. Spotlight Cams are better suited to higher density neighborhoods. The spotlight is less likely to completely blind/tick off your neighbors compared to the floodlight version.

@@SmartHomePoint I agree with the point Felicia made as I specifically went for the spotlight cam because of the reason I don't want blind cars or people that pass by, I live in a neighbourhood where housing is built relatively close together as most UK houses are since we don't all live in mansions or houses with a lot of land. There have been a few other houses that have put flood light systems which often annoys me as I'm not near their property but my passing car sets off their sensors still and I get blinded and I'd rather save others from that issue. The flood light ring camera would be fine if it was at the back of my property where blinding traffic is not an issue, so right tool for the right circumstance.
Isn't another point that if you want a battery-operated camera with a light, the floodlight cam isn't an option as it's only available wired?

Well the flood light cam requires a wired power source the spotlight cam doesn’t require one. It can be powered through a solar panel. Spotlight cam is more practical if you don’t have a junction box.

That's exactly why I bought the spotlight cam, also I can still access my camera even if the power goes down (I have my router conected to a UPS)

I very much appreciated your video. I am going to have to go with the battery powered cams, as running wires or installing a solar panel are not options (former: too difficult, latter: too ugly). My cameras will be in very visible locations. The drawback of the battery units (delay of recording) is something I will have to live with. It is also necessary that I mount the cameras (1 stick-up and 3 spotlights) on the soffit. It took a bit of research to learn that the mounting hardware that comes with the cameras can be adjusted for wall or ceiling mounting. My first impression was that I had to order separate mounting brackets to accomplish this. I believe that mounting wired units on a soffit may require that additional hardware be purchased. Thank you again for the very helpful information.

I was on the verge of buying the floodlight cams and then I realised that all of them are wired. The problem that poses for me is that the part of my property where I require coverage does not have any electricity running to it so that makes the floodlight pointless for me and I'm really glad that the battery operated Spotlight series of cameras exists for this reason

Hi, thank you for your easy to follow video! I have a question please because my main concern is I love the actual lighting feature of the spotlight when I’m not home and I want to put these inside my living room and bedroom. I also like the fact that they have the sirens unlike the stick cam, which you have to manually do the siren after accessing the app. Any thoughts on why I absolutely should not install the spotlight camera indoors? Thank you!!

My question is this: if I don’t care about lights and video quality, would there be any significant drawbacks to just installing a second doorbell camera on my backyard instead of these any of the cameras in this video? Great video thank you. I had a couple of Ring Stick Up Cam Elites and although very reliable, the night time footage was very poor. Wanted a camera that was wired, had a spotlight with decent quality and affordable.
Purchased a couple of Reolink Lumus and am very happy.

After watching this video I came across the Eufy Security System that looks similar to the Ring system minus the option of live person monitoring and cellular backup if wifi goes down. But the Eufy cameras seem superior to Ring and do integrate with the door sensors etc. In the same app.

@@MOVIEKICKS Hi I’m no expert so it’s only my opinion. The Ring eco system is really good. I have the doorbell pro plus the alarm and a stick up camera pressed against double glazed windows and they all work perfectly, no issues. My Reolink cameras have their own App and although the Ring App is better the Reolink cameras are in a different league altogether and are cheaper.
I’m not interested in constantly monitoring outdoors, all that matters is when motion is detected it’s recorded.
The Reolink Lumus has a spotlight which lets any intruder know they’ve been seen. The main issue with some bullet shaped cameras using infrared vision is that spiders keep making webs over the lenses and trigger motion events.

excellent information. I was looking at all the variations myself and trying to get a wrap on it.. I like the ( disagree with my information) my response to a disagreement is this. I could see it your way and then we both would be wrong. I do have a POE system with a ring door bell. MY expensive motion tracking POE cameras will simply stop working and need to be re set. Very annoying. The ring works all the time unless I replace a router or have a total power failure.
The ring flood light it’s got wired for the light I was gonna get that too. But ima get all ring spot lights. But I got a ring stick up camasker battery version though
Ring Spotlight Cam comes with a lengthy power cord that allows it to be mounted further away from its power source. Not recommended, but I power mine using the porch light but mounted it much higher to cover more ground.

Well...the stick up can functions up to -20c, which is usefull for me that is gonna use it in my cabin....which isnt allways warm. The indoor cam stops at -5c...and it gets colder in the winter up there

@@SmartHomePoint I'm using wired Ring cameras over wi-fi. I have noticed a slight delay in the app opening and getting the camera I wish to view to open. Would a PoE connection equal a faster view time?
@rondohunter8966 it depends on the exact cause of the delay, unfortunately. Often it's just general slowness from the Ring app, or their cloud services. You could rule out your own Wi-fi as an issue by temporarily moving your Ring device right next to your router - then try the app again. If it's still slow, it's probably just Ring being a bit rubbish 🙈 But if it does resolve the problem, PoE will definitely help yes - it will stop all low signal/RSSI issues 🙂

The ring flood light black is still good though I still get that. But the problem is the ring flood light is wired. But they got the ring flood light battery version. It’s got 2 batteries for the ring cam flood light but you still have to wired it for the flood light

Unfortunately I don't think you can PoE them, no. The Floodlight Cam range is designed for proper hardwiring into the mains (110-240v), then using WiFi for internet connectivity.

Yeah, you can share access with each individual cam. If you’re the main account holder you can share access to someone’s email. They will receive an invite and they have to create their own account

I have a property in Spain with 11 ring cameras, 2 Stick Up Cam Solar (3rd Gen) and 3 Spotlight Cam Solar, tbh they work absolutely great for what I need
All of them have 2 batteries, most of the time are at 100% (except a couple of months in winter) with all the settings maxed out, motion, snapshots, long recording time etc
I could’ve wired them including the 3 doorbells the property has but it is too much hassle and from what I can see there isn’t much difference between the wired and the battery versions
That's a fair comment, another good reason to buy the Spotlight Cam... I suppose 😕😅 Also your setup sounds awesome with so many cameras.
All nice and dandy, but the floodlight cams are out of stock for months (at least here in the NL). I even activated the stock alarm, but it’s been quiet. Also, nobody in the country has one in stock, so the spotlight cam is the only option for now.

Hey, I'd probably recommend the Ring Indoor Cam - it had mostly the same features as the other cameras (apart from a light), and is the cheapest in the range. It should work fine in your kitchen.

Question for you - on the wired lights, if they are connected to a power source with a switch, will the whole assembly be turned off, or will only the lights be affected when the switch is turned off? Thanks a bunch!
The entire assembly gets turned off (if the switch is turned off). The camera itself doesn't have a battery backup in this case, meaning that it's 'all or nothing'.
Yeah wired lights/cams should always be considered to be power on. Thus the wired part instead of battery.

@@michaelflitcraft7743 Point taken. However one must take into account how much power the devices draw and how much battery back-up has on hand. Though I did plug my Front camera into my UPS, it should last for an hour or so. But since I'm retired and own a generator it's all a moot point to me.

You've probably heard what a lot of people are doing with their VM Super Hub 3 regarding it's built in router..so if you've got any tips on the way too turn it to modem only and use your own router i would massively appreciate it cheers 🍻
Thanks David 👍 Yeah Ring cameras aren't cheap compared to Wyze, Eufy, Reolink (etc), that's for sure.
Recommending the best router is tricky, especially since I don't have Virgin or the Super Hub 3 myself sorry. If it is easy to set in modem only mode, then at least you have a free choice of router. And an extendable system such as Eero 6, the BT Whole home WiFi discs etc would probably be best. You can just keep adding new points in your home where the WiFi signal is weaker.
Best to wait for a sale though, they're both a bit high priced at the moment. 👍
The only thing I wish U had covered or explained more was the mounting of the spotlight cams. Do I have to have an existing light that U replace or are they simply powered by a plug or by a USB adapter plug.
That's a fair point, I spent a bit too much time ranting about the Spotlight Cam instead 🙈😉 The power mode will vary depending on which model you buy - the Spotlight Cam Battery won't need any wiring run to it, for example. But the Spotlight Cam Wired and Mount will both require existing wiring to be run to them (e.g. from an existing light that you then replace).
@@SmartHomePoint After my complaint I found the ring accessory so that if U don't have a flood light to replace, U can make one quickly/easily with the small adapter Ring now makes that's fair priced. Sorry if my comment came off harsh.
Also, I know U hate (haha) the outdoor cams other then spotlight but my front area is well lit with normal outside lights from dusk till dawn. Is the floodlight still the better option in a well lit front yard?

@@LydieCakes Hi, I too have sufficient light (provided by a motion activated floodlight installed before I thought about cams) and wondered if that would make the basic outdoor cam suitable. How has your experience been and please could you clarify the additional mounting kit supply (UK?)
also does every one know that if you have a ring anyone can use a bit of your broad band making your Internet easier to hack this comes as a standard setting unless you go into your Alex app and turn off side walks, go on here and put 10 things you should change on your alexa app before using alexa or and of there compatible devices.. also do not forget the new privacy setting where u can here out side but the ring door bell and the out side world can not hear you go in to general then down to privacy.. test if u want it on or off I was amazed at the amount it recorded.. ps I love these devices but it's still about keep our self's safe from every thing.
Thanks for the comment, Amazon sidewalk is a pretty weird feature - I'm surprise that it hasn't had more criticism in the media. As you say, Ring devices are great, but it's concerning how Ring and Amazon sometimes aren't great for privacy reasons.
I got the ring stick up cam for in doors and out doors
My first camera was the stick-up cam for outside. His claim that on battery it will last 6-12 months is B.S. Maybe if there is no movement or activity at all to set it off, but if it's working properly every squirrel, cat, dog, and blowing tree limb will set it off. I purchased a solar panel and that took care of it. Battery holding a 93% charge or better most of the time. Until we had a cold snap - in Florida - that got down to the low 20's for a couple of nights. That killed the solar panel. Checking the forums and boards it appears that many others experienced this same issue. So I got Ring on the phone, explained the situation, and after twice sending me wrong parts I think I may have found a CSR who is sending me what I have requested. A new solar panel that has an older style barrel-connector instead of the USB connectors they are going to for newer models. Big difference.

@@SmartHomePoint Being in Florida it seldom gets very cold so perhaps why my solar panel did last for a couple of years. I've not had an issue with batteries, but then we seldom get very cold. Once or twice a year below 32 degrees is average.

Hi: you said it does not record 24/7. Let's say it is set in the kitchen and there is a lot of movement, does it record all the time as long as there is movement no matter how long that is?
Hello, it will record 'close to' 24/7 yes - my Ring Doorbell sometimes records 5-6 times in a 10 minute period (i.e. it's 50-60% of the way to continuously recording). You will still have little gaps in-between recordings though, so you won't get true 24/7 recordings.
I been searching for information on Ring and u r one of the best. So….Dont buy ring spot light cam. Others r good to consider. Thx for the detailed information and explanations of each.

Good question - it usually performs like a battery, since it still has to conserve power (e.g. for cloudy days). So only the wired/plug-in versions without a battery offer the full performance.

Is the Ring Stick Up Cam Elite (poe) suitable for outdoor use?
The device itself is 'weather proof', but the PoE adapter itself should only be used indoors (i.e. the Ethernet cable should then be run outdoors): support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032791691-Stick-up-Cam-Elite-Information
I am testing RING stick up camera's at the moment and and having constant problems with the App. 1. The notifications are extremely buggy. They work they don't (I learned that you have to turn the notifications OFF and On again to make them work again. I had to do this everyday?) 2. The Live view constantly doesn't work and then it does work an hour later. It says the connection is bad when this is plainly not true? Is anyone else having these problems? I thought I was going to invest in more camera's but that doesn't look hopeful at this stage?
Hmm that's a frustrating experience, sorry to hear it. I don't have those type of issues, but every so often my video streams will freeze up. In my case, the cause is because I have a mesh WiFi setup and Ring devices sometimes struggle with them.
I have Ring Camera's in my house and outdoors what really bothers me is during an appointment moment when a crime is being committed the camera is not recording. Ring needs to provide 24 seven recording. Do you think they'll ever offer this?
Yes it's definitely a big missing feature. I don't know if they will to be honest - they promised it years ago, but then never delivered. They seem to sell well despite the lack of 24/7 recording, so it's not like there's a market-competition reason to offer it unfortunately. (I personally very much hope they do though, I'd be the first person to enable it on all my cameras).
Maybe they want to give you an out in case a burglar has an accidental death.???
I couldn't find a source that says the Ring Alarm would trigger the camera sirens, any sources?
It's under "Linked Devices" of the Ring Base Station. It allows you to set other Ring devices to record, or start their siren, when the Ring alarm system is ringing. How about positioning an indoor cam to see the outside? Will it see through the glass window?
It will see through it fine, however motion detection might not work reliably. It basically depends on whether the camera can use pixel based detection or not (basically, scanning the image to see if anything is changing). During the day, it will do this fine - so work well through a window. But at night, it will revert to night vision mode - and this will not work well through a window (because it resorts to infrared 'heat' type motion detection).

Ring Spotlight Cam is unique because it has light + siren + battery powered. All the rest are wired options I think.
(grumbles to himself) meh, fine, I'll just about accept this as a valid reason to purchase the Spotlight Can 😔

Can you use the wifi version in your car as a dashcam?
i saw that if the led light goes bad on the flood light cam you have to buy a whole camera. i have leed flood lights and if the bad they are cheap to replace so ti think the spotlight cam would be better.
Hmm that's true I guess, good point 🙂. While the Spotlight Cam also has bulbs you can't replace, I appreciate that the light is much more powerful on the Floodlight Cam - meaning that you'll notice a broken bulb there a lot more.

Can I log in at any time to view live feed?

Good questions. As you say, the Ring cameras all record at the same (1080p) res - unfortunately. So the 'best' would just be down to your needs - e.g. if you need a bright light, the Ring Floodlight Cam would be best.
Yes you can view the live feed (which Ring calls "Live View") anytime - with or without a Ring Protect subscription.
You can't go back and view full recordings when an event/motion didn't exist, no. It's frustrating, but they only record when events/motions are discovered. The only slight difference here is Ring Snapshot Captures - Ring cameras can take low-res pictures every 30 seconds, to sort of "fill in" the gaps between recordings. This is better than nothing, but certainly no substitute for 24/7 recording capability (which Ring doesn't offer).

no they do not offer continuous recording and glitch alot like you have ghosts passing I am taking my ring down putting up a blink and a normal wireless door bell the blink the picture is another level or if u do not want to spend that much you can get this little cube camara has night vision motion or can be recording continuously its called the mini HD voice motion control camara there's an sq11 loads of different one starting at 5 pound up to 20 pounds I brought one as punt its amazing.. the picture is like the blink and connects to an app like the blink the ring more often and not who ever was at my door has gone by the time it has connect even if you have the video cam that say a short pre recorded message for you. ring could be just ad good why aren't they? xx
I think if you slowed down and stop going back and fourth it would make it more clear as to understand. I could not figure out which one is good ,which one isn't or which one i should buy or not buy. I hope you see how confusing it is / was!!

Do any of these Ring cameras have the ability to rotate and thereby give the user the ability to view different areas of one's yard as needed?

If Wi Fi drops will any of these models continue to work on Data❓
Unfortunately none of them would, no. They don't support local SD card recording. The only exception is if you use the Ring Alarm Pro and pay $20/month for Ring Protect Pro, and you can then record to the Alarm Pro. This will still require a local network (e.g. WiFi), but it doesn't require external internet working.

Ring indoor cam
I like Ring's indoor camera. It hasn't got the best image quality IMO, but it has a bunch of other nice features instead.

Have seen a couple of cats, my dogs, when I am out front. And had a bee buzzing around right in front of it. It works very well. It even shows the neighbour's driveway, but only shows movement just past my own, which is very long. I highly recommend them.

How is the spotlight cam pointless. The floodlight cam needs an electrician to come and install wiring for it to work! THAT'S POINTLESS just like this vid...
Excellent video. Would be better if you stopped using the "blip" sound when you add text to your videos. We can see the text. But the sound intruding makes the audio unlistenable, annoying. So we have to watch with the audio off, using close-captioning. If for some reason you must have that sound when you add text, cut it to 20 percent of volume.
absolute crap in cool weather batts are horrible. even hardwire a lith batt will not charge and wired only tricke charges and the thing will only run on batt
This comparison is idiotic. The spotlight cam is not pointless. It can be battery powered, where as the floodlight cam is only wired. It is more compact for tighter spaces, and it sometimes brighter is not better. It's not necessary to blind your neighbors every time motion is detected, so the spotlight camera is better suited to many situations.
You can dim down the Ring Floodlight Cam too, meaning that there's no reason to blind people using this. But still, you make some good points - I will begrudgingly accept that those are some good benefits of the Spotlight Cam 😉
Don’t buy any of them. Buy “Deep Sentinel” cameras instead. “Deep Sentinel” is the best in the business. 💯
