To answer the question that 90% of the viewers probably have right now: yes, the fuse box is located on the left side for left hand driven cars. It's always where the steering wheel is, so that you won't have a shit ton of cables running through your entire dashboard from the steering wheel to the fuse box. Btw I measured all of the fuses and all of them have permanent power, not just when the ignition is on. So if you want to hardwire a dashcam with parking surveillance that needs power permanently, you can pick any fuse with a small sized fuse, like the fuse nr 204 (has 5A), which powers the diagnostic connector. I installed mine on that one with an amazon dashcam hardwire kit and it works perfectly.
As a retired mechanical engineer I must commend you on a superb video. If only more people would explain and guide especially replacing removed items. Well done.
Mate thanks for this video, helped me 100%, This afternoon I fitted my dash cam in. With 0 electrical experience. Feel like a pro. Thank you very much for your informative video.
A very elegant solution.worked well for 2018 c200. as mentioned by someone else, plug in fuse holder which holds 2a fuse for dashcam and 5a fuse which you have removed needs slight narrowing with a craft knife to get it to locate in fuse socket. Also I disconnected battery (earth only as this was easier) and when I powered up proximity central locking wasnt working. I reset settings on central console to "reset to factory settings" This did the trick . Thanks Jamie
Absolutely brilliant video... Followed it step by step and successfully fitted in my road angel dash cam using the same instructions and it works a dream! Thank you! Saved me £100 in fitting costs!
Thanks so much for doing this video. I followed your method exactly on my C220, which I took delivery of yesterday, and it worked first time. Mine has a cigarette lighter type plug so I had to wire in a dummy socket to sit in the space behind the fuse box but the principle is identical. I did hard wire the dash cam to my previous car but seeing how all the trim is removed and where everything goes makes it so much easier, again many thanks Jamie.
Thanks a lot Jamie, you made it so simple with clear instruction. I wired the rear cam also following your instructions for the front cam. Well done mate!!!!
Perfect! Thanks Jamie. It was very similar on the A205 convertible except the A-pillar post is one piece with the trim across the top of the windscreen. Remove the sunvisor and it comes off as one. Wiring exactly the same though.
Hi there, Thank you for a very clear video, very simple to follow. I have now installed mine and it works fine. You will not believe what I was quoted at the dealers. Thanks again
Fantastic video. Thank you! Clear and concise. Saved me no end of time and hassle. I personally wired it to the analogue clock 5A fuse for a permanent signal but I know some want it only to be on with the ignition like yours too. Thanks again man.
Really great video, thanks! I noticed that you did not disconnect the battery before. How safe or risky is it considering the airbag might go off while working? I also want to fix the dashcam but worrying about the airbag. What you or the audience would suggest? Disconnect the battery? Thanks!
An outstandingly good video, well done. I have a 350e with complex electrics so I'm going to check the fuse you used is the same. What was the fuse powering in your car? Thanks again.
Amazing tutorial and advice! Thank you! Quick question tho, I done everything perfectly but finding it a mission to clip the a-post back on again correctly as the ‘airbag’ tag doesn’t click back in again?
Really good video, easy to follow and I installed as per your instructions. Only observation is you did not appear to use the magnetic anti interference devise to be wrapped around the power line. Was that intentional? I used the magnetic unit and hid it in the mirror housing. . Thanks

hi jamie great guide used method to fit a Garmin 55 ,switches on when ignition turned on runs okay most of the time, but sometimes beeps low battery switching off, why would it do that has it's hard wired into fuse box !!!
The latest version of the nextbase kit has a particularly chubby fuse holder. it's going to be necesssary to use either a Stanley Blade or some abrasive paper to slim it down a bit - otherwise it ain't goint to go in the hole.
This is a really great video.I was able to install the dashcam using your instructions but am having trouble putting the AirBag plastic back into the A post. Any suggestions on how to push it back in
what voltage you set to have the dash cam power off? a lot of people on the internet suggested 12v but my car, once park would only record for an hour, max 2 if set at 12V. Would 11.7v be more realistic say, for overnight or 2 days recording?
@@slowjamcustomgarage The airbag will deploy if there is a current spike. Might be through static or anything else. DO NOT WORK NEAR AIRBAGS WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. And do not connect the battery while anyone is inside the vehicle. It's literally an explosive, it will kill you.
Nice video - quick question, doing it this way does the stop/start of the engine (at traffic lights etc.) cause the cam to turn off? I read that it can be a problem when hard wired certain ways. Thanks!
@@slowjamcustomgarage Update: I did this today using this video! Different camera and cable kit but the same principle, this was really helpful thank you! The only issues I found (if it helps anyone else) is that in my 2016 C205: 1) The fuse box trim panel was a LOT more difficult to open up than in your video. It eventually did with some brute force but it was really seriously strongly clipped in. 2) This particular group of fuses is surrounded by a plastic wall right next to them, so you can't grab them from the side with pliers. They're also so close together you can't use a fuse grabbing tool, so I had to use a small pair of tweezers to get the fuse out. 3) I couldn't get the A frame trim all the way off, but could get it off enough to easily hide the cable down the door side and under the top to get to the head lining. The rest is as per the video. It was also really hard to get the fuse splitter to slot in the fuse box, but that's probably down to the installation kit I used. Thanks again for the great video, I'd never have attempted this without it!
