Chicago Metra Rush Hour Time Lapse

- Enjoy the complete two hour rush hour traffic departing North and West from Union Station and Ogilvie Station in downtown Chicago!
Please let me know if you are interested in the same footage presented in real time. Would a 2 hour video interest anyone.
Also, if you want to slow the video down (or speed it up) you can do this when watching on a computer using the Settings cog wheel at the bottom right of the screen.
Thanks for watching!
This is the most satisfying thing I have ever seen. Great job!
Thank you!!
You two are very awesome thank you very much.
@@Luke_Starkenburg i hate to sound backwards, but is it possible that some of the people moving so fast have diahearra? and or the nasty shits? i cant think of someone or anybody moving that fast if theres no need to rush somewhere.and the red brick building in the right back part,is where a few trains go by
I nearly said the exact same thing. This is oddly satisfying. Mesmerizing.
Awesome video have photographed this spot many times and love it.
Jake: "how often does the train go by?"
Elwood: "so often you wont even notice it".
Get off my bed you sleaze!
joliet jake and elwood blues. nice
What a classic.
Chicago is the worlds biggest model train set :D
Honestly, it does look like a model train set. Lol
You think there is NYC and other cities
110% Effort true

@@teddawg327 Tokyo
It's like watching a REALLY good model train set.
McRocket My first thought when I saw this was "Wow that is an INTRICATE model layout."
Lachlan Keddie - :)
My very thoughts exactly 🚆
McRocket it's because hackers think they are funny
Perfect spot! A railcam should be put there.
Virtual Railfan should 100% do it
Maybe we should make a petition (like to sign)
Yess
Excuse me ma’am, not to be disrespectful or rude but could you please take post down. That is my sister who was killed by a metra train. And it this post is very disrespectful. Idk who you are or if you even know her but I need you to take this down please.
3:24 that biker on the bottom sure was having fun when the train passed lmao
If I was riding a bike, I would probably do circles waiting for the train, or trying my best to stay still on my bike and attempt not to fall over.
I never noticed that. 😂
3:29 You spin me right round, baby right round
Lol
Why the heck is he doing that lol
@@journeythroughtherails5294 Possibly cause he doesn't wanted to stop cycling and wanted to keep moving. It helps to stay warm.

hi M...
'
no see...
not notice what gender with a bikee
3:30 that cyclist though... Impatient! x)
LMAO!
yeah he just keeps circling before the crossings
couldn't stop or bike would explode: Speed 3
That was me
@@LONEWLF No way!
This video was fantastic! I loved seeing 3 or 4 or even 5 Metra trains at once! My favorite part was on the lower line when all three tracks would be occupied. I want to see a full 2 hour one to see all the trains.
Excellent camera work ! Love the accerelated sound, looks like simcity overview aha !
Greetings from France
Stunning! I was blown away by the amount of trains in Chicago, but this video was executed perfectly. Great job!
These were just from Ogilvee Station and north part of Union Station. Union south and two other stations handle many, many more than what you see here.
3:29 that bike dude
From an Eye of a student in logistic of transport, this is an absolute beauty!
Florida railfanning: Waits 8 hours to see 4 trains in a "hot spot" location
Chicago railfanning: Fills up storage in camera after 30 minutes of railfanning
Good thing I don’t live too far away lol
i am offended lmao
lol
Yeah, Florida's a joke now. Same with Georgia. Tennessee, Illinois, and California are probably the best states to railfan now besides D.C.
Love this. Although we have double decker trains in Europe we don’t have any in the UK so they are still pretty alien looking to me.
Rocky Dans Dutch double deckers are awesome!
UK has europas smallest profiles in regard of trains, this is a huge issue with electrification right now because there are a lot of bridges that have to be rebuild completely.
Awesome video ! 👍🏻
Absolutely love the detail you've put into the video, location, routes, all of it. Great job!
Brilliant video with great captions, beginning to end. Thank u!
Luke, Great Time Lapse. Please do this time lapse again, but make the next one during a rain storm and then also a snow storm.
boxofrocks565 I would love to!
ya great idea do the same timelapse but now when the snow starts getting severe in my opnion trains in heavy snow is so satisfying!
Great timelapse from a great city! Please post the full 2 hrs of content 😁
Kelvin M. Russell ok, I think I will post the full length version sometime.
I noticed at the first timelapse, that there were a lot of non-stainless metra coaches still in use!
The business car at 1:27 was a nice find! not too many private cars on Metra!
2:12 I've never seen a Metra light engine before!
2:30 a 2nd light engine?!
I just noticed the El train to the far right at 3:09!
4:42 nice to see a repainted F40! I think that Metra's F40s should stay in blue while the other diesels recieve that livery!
11:47 I guess they remoed the special40th anniversary wrap on 100!
Thanks for sharing this! Virtual Railfan should have a webcam here!
MrBnsftrain you really studied the video! I’m glad you noticed the El Green and Pink Lines running in the background. I don’t know how many people picked that up! I would love to live in this building and have this out my window every day!! Thanks for the great comments!
You had a lot of luck that day. I've been riding metra 15 years and never saw a private car before !
The only private car makes that same run every day.
Go to the M19A locomotive servicing facility. you will see not only a single Metra units but several together in a line.
MrBnsftrain car 553 is the last private commuter car in the US according to its Wikipedia page
Great 👍🏻 vantage point for filming. Lots of train traffic.I really enjoyed seeing the old Chicago and North Western train car. It is clear that lots of work went into identify each train 🚂 route and destination. Great work.
That is the club car. It has been elegantly remodeled inside. It has a full bar and waiter service. Members pay a $10,000 membership up front and a hefty annual fee. In addition, they have to buy a regular ticket. Everyone leaves at Lake Forest.
Almost didnt notice the subway/elevated train in the backright corner!
0:39 For a moment i thought this was a ho scale trainset
@TBB747 it was n scale Kato
Excellent video! Loved watching the time lapse!
What a amazing videeo, just the sheer number of trains is amazing. I take the Hiawatha all the time from Wisconsin!
101 train in 2 hours. Wow.
and they claim they cant make a profit, right?
Imagine being a dispatcher, probably more intense than an air dispatcher!
@Clyde Foofoofnik absolutely, everybody forgets that there's a lot more to a railroad than trains.
It’s mind blowing when you think of that compared to European services. You’d see that level of service that the whole of Chicago sees at just one London main terminus, and there’s multiple main stations in London
Clapham junction, England - 180 trains per hour
Two of my favorite things: trains and time-lapse. Awesome video!
I love timelapsese also!
7:46 was one of the best parts.
Very nice video and great catches too!
This popped up on my feed. Great video!
Love any timelapsed video! :D
This is outstanding. One of the best videos I've watched. I love watching rush hour in Chicago.
Thank you! When I went swimming at my friends place and saw the view from the pool deck, I knew I had to come back and film it!! I’ve even debated moving to this building!
Great camera locations, action and fantastic city/train sounds
Thanks UA-cam recommendations. Didn’t know I needed this!
Wow that was awesome!
Awesome video! I’ve been to Chicago a few times and the Railfanning there is incredible!
AWESOME VIDEO!!!!! LOVE THE ACTION!!! I SUBBED!
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Thank you!
This is great! What I love most is the audio!
Excellent video!
IF ONLY THERE WERE MORE VIDEOS OF THIS! I LOVE METRA!
That place reminds me of the shibuya intersection crossing in Japan. The bridge structure is I think why it reminds me of it. In reality there’s no similarity but somehow it reminds me of it.
Simply amazing.
I worked across the street from the Schwinn Design Center 29 years ago... Those where my bike messenger days . Some of the bldgs in the back ground are new -so I couldn't recognize the intersections. Time sure does fly, change is the constant ! Thx Chgo... born & raised.
Great video! Another interesting thing is to experience the groaning and creeking of the gallery cars as they bend and twist over the slips into and out of Ogilvie Center. Sometimes just watching the angle of the adjacent car is amazing.
I agree! The wheels slip going around the sharp curves also! You should watch some of the real time video. ua-cam.com/video/7OZYvsxyx-E/v-deo.htmlsi=buhkmysBZPNJfPrq

One video is the evening rush hour and one video is the morning rush hour, both at real time so you can hear the cars more.
Fascinating. It's a ballet performance. Nice job!
Awesome!. I see these rush hour everyday in chicago :)
btw, trains movements look like transport fever game screen lol.
Very entertaining..many thanks.
Really nice video! I enjoyed it
Fantastic! What a great vantage point.
So cool to watch
Thank you for sharing
Muse
Amazing ! Thanks for the view !
You're welcome! I almost thought we had the same last name! Similar.
Cool bro,feels like heaven
Amazing!
these double layer railcars looks really cool !!
Great job!!
That little car parking @8:07 and then reparking is pretty funny!
Very impressive video! :)
Very Good Video!
Great vid! My wife and I take long distance AMTRAK and Union Station is our main connection point. We always go to The Junction so I can have a beer and admire the gorgeous bartenders. But, both of us enjoy watching the commuters grabbing a quick drink. I've had some good conversations with them, friendly people. What is amazing, though, is that we watch commuters running up to the bar and the bartender has their drink in a brown paper bag to go. They know a LOT of their customers and are very efficient in rapidly serving them. The Station is nuts at rush hour! Metra moves a hell of a lot of passengers for sure.
I enjoy watching the hustle and bustle during rush hour also! I'm not a commuter, but I take a few rides occasionally, and also take Amtrak a few times a year. (It's so different now, I'm sure. I hope it gets back to normal soon!)
wow.. that is alot of trains O_O!.. (thank you for the video)
Great video. Adding the train numbers made it that much better.
Kirk Schwenker it took a long time cross referencing train schedules and typing everything and proofreading!
Love this! Watching the city move!
Very nice. Surprised I haven't seen other people do this from there.
crazy how they have a tripple crossing in the middle of downtown with such frequent service.
Love this!
Awsome looks like a well built model railroad(:
So cool!
I would totally live there. Chicago is a land of great things: big trains, Screamers, mechanical bells: even the crossings have real mechanical bells. These are things I rushed to see on the MBTA and now we have junk. Metra just does things right.
If I can't live there, a proper live stream is in order. If I can, there's a pool and I'm good with it.
Awful politics and taxes.
I mean, I don’t mind the politics (MJM, Rahm and soon JB for life am I right?)
You're crazy.
i live there lol
Chicago is a Gotham when there is corruption is everywhere.
Awesome! Would love to watch the two hour version!
in the background you can see CTA trains passing by. Real cool
Very nice video, crazy how many trains there are
CRAFTY HELLO
Hi crafty lol
Thank you for the memories it was very entertaining, and your time lapse is perfect. I could have watched another 12 minutes. One should review this video again just to observe how many CTA cars passed by in the background. But I found the watching the people, cars and truck pass by at street level enjoyable. Looking at the Garbage truck backing up into the viaduct was a real close call at time lapse speed.
Thanks! The first time I went to this location, my jaw dropped at the incredible view, especially for a train lover! I knew I had to make a video!
If you want to watch another 12 minutes, here is another one of my videos. This one is of the morning rush hour, same location. ua-cam.com/video/LNIPAU3DgK8/v-deo.html
Great job on the map
great job, speed was great
Wow that is a lot of trains!
I honestly thought at the video was a huge model. But if you actually made that kind of layout like that, then your a god legend
A 2 hour real time would interest me, this also sparks me to want to see this in person someday
I just posted a real time version of this. Enjoy!
ua-cam.com/video/7OZYvsxyx-E/v-deo.html
mesmerizing!
3:30 man was vibin on his bike goin in circles
I’m a train lover and I respect the fact that you did this
Looks almost like a super-detailed model railroad layout!
This is awesome! Now I want to visit Chicago
Ultra Energy it’s nothing like this now, during the virus. The schedules have been scaled back. Hopefully soon it will be back to normal...
@@Luke_Starkenburg ik
Great video, and the other side of Union Station is where far more trains come/go, as well as other stations for IC, South Shore and others.
3:42 Nice catch of the veterans F40PH!
Exelente video
nice video
Everybody in Chicago is always in such a rush!
can the rest of our North American cities reflect off this? also the one thing i noticed most and was surprised about was, i didnt notice 1 person run across those tracks when the crossing was closed.... Chicago has people that arent stupid, HAZAAA!
chuckufarly5 you must remember that Chicago is blessed as the rail and air hub of the US and this has public transportation as such to boot. Us Chicagoans don't mess with the trains. Especially since they provide along with the Pace Bus System, the CTA L Trains and Buses a very rich public transportation system
Look who they vote for though.
Eric Christian Chicago’s PT honestly sucks from a European perspective. I haven’t seen non electrified tracks in my entire European life.
Roy Hoeksema Then you haven't been outside of a city before lol
Very calming
Funny watching it sped up especially with the fast bells.
Trains are like "Dingdingding I had too much coffee this morning and im very late must go go go"
Guys I rode Metra for many years and I really appreciated all the conductors I worked with no matter what and I know that I'm able to make it where I'm at now
The Special car is my equipment for my morning trip. Cool video!
The Union Pacific engine?
Ah, cool.
The CNW car on M314.
I swore this is a train layout, but is actually real life LOL
Perfect viewpoint to capture :)
So envious of the large, loco-hauled coaches - wish that was the norm here! But you can keep those mad, mad, endlessly-ringing bells 😋
Interesting view.
That elevated corner is a real screecher.
In a country that unfortunately seems to be moving away from rail, in favor of automobiles, a video like this really warms my heart, knowing that rail travel is still alive and well here.
Its not moving away, its moving faster to rail every year.
Awesome video! Someone should consider putting up a webcam at this location! Wow!
This is the same video in real time.
ua-cam.com/video/7OZYvsxyx-E/v-deo.html
@@Luke_Starkenburg very neat! Thank you!
