Chicago is also known for its architecture, and riding the L around the loop is a very unique way to view the buildings. When friends visited me there, I always took them for a ride on the L. I know that you are a genuine railfan because, like me, you're fascinated by the complex trackwork. (Something that's hard for non-railfans to understand) Thanks also for putting in Roosevelt University - located at 1:40 during the presentation on the left - where I received my bachelor's degree enabling me to teach music for 25 years in the CPS system. I've also traveled every Amtrak route in the 🇺🇸United States and all the sleeper trains in 🇨🇦Canada. My only other noteworthy international trip was a round trip from 🇬🇧London to 🇨🇵Paris on Eurostar. Rail Travel is what initially drew me to your channel. Perhaps I will one day be blessed to travel to the land of the rising sun 🇯🇵 and ride the wonderful trains in your videos. I ❤️Love❤️ the way you selected the 🍊orange🍊 line for your travels as that's the way I travel home from my rail adventures. I live near Midway 🛫Airport but actually reside 100 feet from Amtrak's current route to St. Louis. I can watch all the trains pass daily. Perhaps one day you'll take the Texas🦅Eagle to San Antonio or ride the through sleeper to Los Angeles - my favorite trip and Amtrak's longest sleeping car trip. I was there in October 23. I enjoyed the trip and especially on the train. We used the blue line from Ohare to downtown Clarke / Lake. The people were so friendly and it was a lovely experience!! It’s certainly a very unique railway system. Thanks for sharing 👍

Kuga, thank you first of all for illustrating my hometown "L". I grew up on the 'L"...high school, my work career, baseball games. Basically, you showed the world what most Chicago riders take for granted. Chi is a train city. I hope you did venture into the subway. You haven't experienced loud until a subway ride. Your "friend" probably hipped you to decent areas and times to ride. The green line bridge between 59th and 63rd street, over Dan Ryan expressway, you would have loved. I visited Tokyo in 08 and 13 and trust me, you win on cleanliness and safety. Your cinematography is outstanding!! Sears Tower over the bean.
I'm from the Chicago area but now retired in the mountains of North Carolina. Your video really brought back memories of when I took the train to U of I, Chicago Circle Campus. And also when I lived up north in Evanstan for a year and took the train to my work place, Western Electric in Cicero, now completely gone. Thanks again.

This was a really cool experience. I hope someday you might visit Berlin. The city has a large U-Bahn and S-Bahn system, with elevated and underground stations. The first elevated section was opened in February 1902.

Hello I’m from the UK and have been to Chicago several times (actually more times than I’ve been to Liverpool, although i have travelled on their Merseyrail system). Thanks for the clip as I’ll be in Chicago next May arriving on the Empire Builder from Seattle and will check out a few of these locations. Hope you also managed to travel on the South Shore line that is also worth recording!
Man - last time I rode the L, they were still using tokens. Sounds just like the MBTA hahaha. Best thing about Chicago is that if you have a funky idea for a skyscraper, they'll actually do it.
Great video and glad you enjoyed the city. Next time you visit (if you do choose) I recommend taking a trip outside downtown! Brown line offers great north side views, I do recommend Chinatown for fantastic food, pilsen is great for Mexican food via the pink line. Cheers🌃

I grew up in Chicago, we used to take the Clark street bus to get to downtown. I remember the L , our nearest station was on Damen Ave. We never needed a car when we lived there, the bus,the L, and walking took us where we needed to be.

Too bad you're not also an architecture enthusiast--I think Chicago's architecture is a prime reason for visiting the city. So many world-famous architects did great work there.
I'm in awe every time I visit Chicago. The city architecture is wonderful, food is delicious, the transit is super reliable and pretty interesting, all the people I met were really nice too!

Now the Quincy stop is cool: they put up historic ads and that burnt orange instead of white color. Looks you didn't include outside of the Loop either. There's the new flyover on the brown and level crossings that concern me. There's the historic trains that they've been running the last few months and the South Shore train. I often will ride the train during off-peak hours just to relax.

It definitely looks 1890s. Still, I like it. I fly into Midway and take the orange line into the loop, and never have to set foot into a road vehicle. There are far too few cities in the US where you can do that.

Im sure you've noticed as well that although these cars may be old they are capable of very high speed. Going from downtown to ohare airport you feel like you're in a rocket ship.

I stayed 2 nights in Chicago. Although I stayed 2 blocks from the nearest el, the screeching noise as the trains made a right angle turn was more than a bit audible. Definitely could have used a white noise generator and earplugs.

Im sure you've noticed as well that although these cars may be old they are capable of very high speed. Going from downtown to ohare airport you feel like you're in a rocket ship.
Very interesting how the racks are laid out, but I wish you also showed the inside. Guess there was just too many people inside to film.
Trust me… the view looking outside is much better than the inside. Very plain and boring 😁
Another note on the "L", if you take the Blue Line, you can find both the oldest and the newest rolling stock on that line.

Things look nicer than the last time I took the "L", about 45 years ago.
I stayed 2 nights in Chicago. Although I stayed 2 blocks from the nearest el, the screeching noise as the trains made a right angle turn was more than a bit audible. Definitely could have used a white noise generator and earplugs.
すごい!シカゴに乗りに行ってみたい!高層建築の間を走るのも面白いし、やはり直角カーブや複雑なジャンクションが良かった。一日中見ていたいのもわかります。
シカゴは普通のビルでもデザインがいろいろだし古そうなのもあるし、街並みも楽しいですね!
あと、あの複雑なジャンクションの最後の方で明らかに民間人ぽいおじさんが映ってましたが、まさか線路に入れるのでしょうか?そういえば柵もないし…
