Yeah. There is something special about the warmer, laid back colors and movements. The colors now are way too bright in my opinion. And the movements are way too crazy.
@@lugi25 there's so many little details added in there by hand. It looks more human. You can almost see the sketch lines under the heavy dark lines. It doesn't look like modern cartoons is what I'm saying, it looks like my childhood.
Kevin Luper yeah, it had a whole warm and live look, over the 'perfect' looking animation the new one has, it has no character and the characters themselves are also bland now
Oh hey, do you remember when Patrick wasn’t extremely dumb, or when Squidward was happy and not getting tortured all the time, okay maybe when sandy actually knew karate instead of only being a scientist, even when Spongebob didn’t burn your eyes?
remember that episode he moved to a living community of other squidwards and at first was so happy but then became depressed with the mundanity of it all. Boy what a rollercoaster
mine will be Spongebob: "I slipped on an ice cube and got covered in booboos." Doctor: Mmmmm...booboos aye? I think you need THAT hospital Spongebob: "Weenie-hut General?!"
Mostly eyes untrained to the style of traditional cell animation. For a Zoomer or Gen Alpha kid who grew up with nothing but digital animation, viewing a program with the sometimes crude style of traditional animation is jarring and can ruin the immersion. To many though, that "crudeness" is what gives the characters and show life and energy.
Seasons 1-3 of Spongebob are god-tier. There's a reason 99% of the Spongebob memes we see online are ripped from those episodes. The content was just better.
Agreed. I was about 6-7 after the sponge bob 1st movie came out and I started noticing that it just wasn’t the same after the movie and I thought it was just myself getting older.. but as I got older I understand now why it stopped being good... flanderization
He’s definitely made unforgettable memories that we still relate to everyday growing up. That’s one thing new animators can’t get right. It’s the comedy.
Remember that episode when Squidward made SpongeBob cry during April fools. The fact that the audience were like "oh shit" the moment we realized Squidward took it to far really means a lot to me. Showed how while the show is meant to have fun it can be taken serious whenever it wanted to and that was amazing.
My favorite example of this along the same line of thought was the Spongebob Christmas Special, where, after a full night of caroling and almost 24 hours of Squidward's raw cynicism, it seems like Santa Claus isn't coming, and so Squidward gloats, having been validated, and Spongebob, crestfallen, gives Squidward his gift that he made for him, because he didn't want Squidward to be left out when Santa came. That day, Squidward was the only person to receive a present on Christmas, and was by far the only one who didn't deserve it, and when that moment hits both the audience and the characters, it hits hard. The ensuing fallout of of a guilt-ridden Squidward making amends for his awful behavior is both one of the funniest and most heart warming sequences in the whole series. It serves as a pitch-perfect reminder to us that while Santa Claus may not be a real person, he exists vicariously through all of us, and our collective good deeds and good will to men.
I remember the explosive pie episode where Squidward thought Spongebob was actually going to die so they spent the whole day together. It was so sad as a kid to watch and it showed that Squidward does care about Spongebob even if he annoys him
old spongebob was the best they had good jokes like a little clip that would make you laugh you know they changed patrick too he use to be a great pal but they turned him into a jerk now squidward only has one emotion also crying is over used in the new ones they just make spongebob seem like just a baby in the older seasons he was perfect
I remember commercials in between episodes they would have the animator/creator quickly show you how to draw a character. I remember clearly that spongebob was a top heavy rectangle and not overly perfectly square.
Bewm Bewm yes just like that !! It was so cool ! Plus to see it drawn was nice when everything out now is cheap computer made animations by the thousands. My kid watches crap like that on Netflix or UA-cam and I have to turn it off, it’s bad quality in every single way
Bewm Bewm no I talk a lot so I totally get it lol essay away if need be. But yes I loved that show too, and my sister being a little older she had me watch things like Freakazoid, animaniacs, Ren and stimpy, teen titans, darkwing duck, etc. and the new animation is big heads with big eyes, round face no chin, like the movie Brave and countless other examples
I feel that spongebob for the first four seasons was adulthood through the lenses of an optimistic child. SpongeBob is more like just a kid now, but I think that’s what made the show special. Especially having Squidward as his foil.
I don't know I like seeing the errors on animation. Where you can see the small little mistakes that don't really take you out of the show. Like how every frame is different. I enjoy that so the first season is my favorite.
i think what made season 1 so good was that it was a chill in a way where we were just watching some adults live their lives in the ocean. - squidward is just a normal adult who is sometimes cynical because he works minimum wage as a cashier. but even if he's cynical, he finds joy in different types of art (painting, sculpting, dancing, playing the clarinet, etc). and he was annoyed by everyone, but he did occasionally enjoy everyone's presence at times. - spongebob was a little naïve, but he was still an adult. he likes "childish" activities, but they were just that, activities. he was still an adult and he acted like one. he just really liked his job. he was sad sometimes, but he wasn't a child. - patrick was always a little dumb, but he's not a total idiot where he can't think for himself. he isn't a child. he's just some unemployed dude. - sandy was a science wizz, but she also had a life outside of science. she lived in the ocean to study sea animals and she made genuine friends outside of science purposes. she was also athletic and strong (idk why they threw this plotline out) - mr. krabs was always a capitalist monster lmao overall they were just adults, but they've been shifted for spongebob & patrick to be the kids while everyone else are the adults. which is why the dynamics feel so off.
Nooblife101 so people are still talking about mlaatr POEPLE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT DANNY PHANTOM. IF YOUR A MCU FAN YOU WILL STILL BE TALKING ABOUT IRON MAN
You get the first 2-3 seasons and the movie. Then the creator steps down and there's not as much inspiration. The show was done at that point, but because the brand is at its peak they can't just throw it out. They turned it into a different type of cartoon. I wouldn't say they targeted a younger audience as Spongebob has always been a kids' show, but they certainly alienated an older audience by reducing the show to something they could keep producing.
Spongebob actually had shreds of maturity in the early seasons that were contrasted by his more childish qualities. This gave him an appeal to both young and older audiences.
"Devolved" might be more fitting. They also destroyed the balance of qualities in the characters Squidward and Spongebob and they become almost fully one dimensional. There has been great video essay about that but I forgot the source. Edit: It was EmpLemons "There will never ever be another cartoon like SpongeBob Squarepants"
@Greatest artist who ever lived in all fairness both creators made something that can last longer than many people can, however you are right, Steve does not get enough love at all
Old Spongebob was an ADULT with (sometimes) childish behaviour. The newer SpongeBob is basically what would happen when you employ a 6 year old to work at their favorite burger joint.
Honestly, just his voice from the first episode especially made him sound like a sly son of a gun that knows how to have fun once in a while. "Bring it around town. Bring it arooooooooouuuuuuuuund toooooowwwwwwwwn." Hell yeah.
I knew they really fucked up the character on those later seasons when my 5 yr old daughter asked me if Spongebob has turned into a child, because now he behaves more and more like one, she got really confused! In the first seasons he was very goofy sometimes yes, but had a more independent tone, with hints of intelligence and maturity of an adult as well, he also enjoyed life and freedom, had no fear of expressing himself, and pursued what he wanted with passion, even if he made mistakes, that didn't stop him from trying, and when down, his friendship bonds were always important to raise him up again. Thats the message I always got with Spongebob.
@@zachatck6567 why is this person a boomer? All she said was her opinion and what she took from the show. A boomer would just dismiss the show as a dumb kids show, which s1-3 was more than.
In the old Spongebob, Patrick was way smarter than he is now. Thats a common theme i see in a lot of modern cartoons. The characters are dumber and use juvenile humour and i honestly don't like it. Say what you want about Adventure Time, at least it's one of the only modern cartoons aired on tv that had a set plot near the middle
@@krowbard It's early days it was just about adventure with colourful characters and humour with mysteries and lore, now since cartoon network got woke, it also became woke
@@Hhhh22222-w Wait, do you mean it's become politically correct? Granted, I haven't washed the show in years(since season 4 or something like that), but isn't it(or was it) good?
Yeah, the only thing I can think they might be referring to is that Marceline and Princess Bubblegum are exes, which was already hinted at since season 3
@SeaLand Container in season 4 they used compressors on everyones voices. if you don't know what i mean it's when you hear people sounding really beefy on the radio, that's not their voice, that's a compressor making them sound like that. they really overdid that in season 4, making it a (in)famously loud show, which wasn't always in the first three seasons
@Greatest artist who ever lived the second and third seasons might have a little bit of that, but listen to the first season, voices sound more natural and quieter maybe?
Oh my god. Stop fucking complaining about a cartoon, why do you even care so much? You're all talking about it like it's some serious topic, way overreacting. What's the big deal?
Mr. Krabs’ constant use of expression is perhaps one of the most noticeable of changes when I watch the newer shows. I was taken aback by just how many bizarre expressions he was making
I think Sandy didn’t get smarter, she got more “other”. It seemed like she knew less about the ocean or was less interested in learning about it. She became more of an outsider.
Spongebob got more irritating and annoying and too childish. Spongebob from season 1-3 was the loveable sponge that everyone liked, after the movie around season 5, he became more irritating and annoying
I thought I was the only one who noticed this a few years back. All spongebob characters use to actually be somewhat smart and witty, EVEN PATRICK! “The inner mechanizations of my mind are an enigma” LIKE COME ON THE PATRICK NOW WOULD NEVER SAY ANYTHING CLOSE TO THAT! All the characters were stupid yes, but actually competent in what was going on around them, and could defend themselves in unique ways that the characters now just can’t. Sponge bob is over barring due to the fact that the character don’t have any sense of wrong/right. Atleast the old characters could see when they did something, and build from there.
Anyone else miss when they use to do the zoomups on something and it would be in intense detail like the episode about the butterfly. I have a very strong memory of that close up but not much about the plot of that episode. I think its because it scared me when i was young
@@catteixeira18 Sandy had a pet caterpillar and had to leave town for the weekend so left spongebob and patrick incharge of her Tree dome. She told them what to do and they say "What about that" pointing to the caterpillar (already in a chrysalis) and she says "He doesn't do much". Then she leaves and while Patrick and Spongebob are looking after the treedome the butterfly hatches and they think it's a monster that ate the caterpillar. They then let it out. The zoomups of when the butterfly lands on their water helmets is a closeup of a real butterfly with a swarming bee sound playing. That's what everyone seems to be remembering. anyway spongebob puts it in a bubble then it floats around terrorising Bikini Bottom. Sandy arrives home seeing the whole of the city on fire then caps the butterfly in a jar and everyone comes out of hiding cheering for sandy saving them from the "Beast".
@Luke T. Yeah family guy went down after season 3, and after season 4 it really went down. Completely retarded characters just aren't funny. I noticed spongebob and family guy didnt decline on quality due to bad plots, just the characters changed, and it ruined those shows.
I think it’s mainly the fact that it wasn’t perfect, it had human error so,everything didn’t feel so stiff and awkward from using the same frame again and again to cut time.
I kind of love that you can look at an episode and tell if it was earlier or later, not even just by the design and colors, but by the general feel, I love earlier episodes because something about the warmer colors and mic quality make it feel welcoming and familiar, it's like getting in a nicely made bed after a long day.
i also love how you would hear some “water” or “bubbly” sounds in the older season’s it really gives more “underwatery” (dk if thats a word LOL) effect which i really like! now they barely even add it they’re just squeezing spongebob too dry :(
Honestly, if spongebob ended at like season 5 or 6, it would have been the perfect show and I personally would have been fine with that other than to see what the show would turn into.
The thing is, "more expressive" is not necessarily always better. I think his design when he still seemed like a functioning adult in seasons 1-3 was best. Like you said, he was goofy but not always stupid.
on the term of more expressive not always being good, take the movie fish tale. it tried to have a very expressive and squash and stretch style, but looks horrifying if you pause on a close up of a character. another movie, like the madagascar series, pulled this off really wel
@@scurrvery Expressiveness worked well to Madagascar's advantage. The similar movie, The Wild, was like Madagascar, except without any real expression, and we all know how that turned out. Haha So yes, if it fits the tone of the movie well, I think it's fine. Fish Tale is a great example of when a studio doesn't really know what kind of vibe it wants to give off and so the characters just have ugly faces and expressions. xD Spongebob used to be a show that had some really clever jokes and didn't just rely on making all the characters seem childish. The expressions that WERE made were just so perfect for the situation, like Spongebob's scared face when facing "A FLOATING SHOPPING LIST AAAAHHH." Not only is the joke funny, but Spongebob's reaction doesn't seem overdone, just funny to see and hear as well.
I’ve seen people diss the current animation style of SpongeBob, but to me, I think it has improved from the stiffness of the first season. It was quite long and expensive for the animators to make just ONE cel. Animation styles change over time. Because the old animation style still exists, they just... don’t use it anymore. It’s not that deep. It’s still Spongebob.
And now Nickelodeon is making a SpongeBob spin-off which is against Mr. Hillenburg's wishes. Can't wait to see the hot garbage those money-grubbing jerks come up with.
Now I honestly hope at the very least the crew (who are perfectly aware that they know SH would have never agreed with this) would try to do their best to make the show good so that it wouldn't do more damage to the franchise but that's kind of a hard ball to throw
funny how the more they tried to make him cuter, they made him less bearable to look at. season 1 spongebob is definitely the most charming and adorable
i absolutely hated his design after the first movie. even as a kid i realized his personality and design changes after the movie and i instantly was turned off. it just wasn’t appealing anymore and even worse, it was nothing like the preceding content that shaped my entire sense of humor
Same. And not only did I not like the design, but his voiced changed in the movie and after for some odd unknown reason, and I never liked it. Even when I tried to give the new episodes a chance, I still couldn't stand his new, more nasally voice. At least we'll always have the first 3 seasons
It got higher after season 1, higher after season 3, somehow higher after the movie, and then got slightly lower around season 7 or 8. SpongeBob's voice is like a rollercoaster.
the fact that people’s voice change over the years and he’s trying his best to still be able to do the voice also might have a little bit to do with it...
@@theharvardyard2356 Well when you have to voice episodes like one coarse meal, a pal for Gary, yours is mine, ceplapod lodge, a day without tears, Spongebob you're fired, petsitter pat, countless torture a specific character episodes and etc. Then why would you be proud?

The childlike attitude of Spongebob made the first Spongebob movie a lesson. A lesson that teaches everyone to be themselves, that they didn't have to change to be or feel like an adult.
I didn't i know he was dead :( the first 3 seasons of SpongeBob are genuinely some of my favorite pieces of media ever created and I'll probably watch them for the next 50 years, rest in piece
Honestly, the early seasons’ designs, and the early concept art are my favorite designs for almost all of the characters. I especially love how squashed and grumpier Squidward looked. And the goofy, misshapen eyes and different sized pupils on Spongebob did a great job showing his character.
Patrick was dumb earlier but you also had to love him because he was very "adorable" when he said smth dumb. And he had character. Now he's just an idiot and I really don't like new Patrick Because I'm from Germany I grew up with the German version. Throughout the shows runtime, i, being a beig spongebob fan, watched spongebob with sheer dedication, even after it’s golden seasons. While i did notice the drop in quality, i still continued enjoying the show because i did notice that while it was different, there still was a bit of cohesion of the original show. However, that bond i had with the show was growing thinner and thinner by each episode. Piece by piece, i noticed how much spongebob changed from his original state into something unnerving and, at times, disturbing. It was mainly 3 things i noticed that seemed to be the biggest changes of spongebob: story, personality, and quality. The story, to start off, was rather simple in the first seasons, but people enjoyed nontheless. This was mostly due to how relatable this stories actually were, there was the first episode where spongebob tries to get a job, something anybody nowadays can relate to. There was the episode where spongebob and patrick visit their tv show/superhero idols, mermaid man and barnacle boy, which anybody would love to meet their idols. And lets not forget the episode where spongebob was simply playing with a piece of paper. One of my most favorite episodes. All of these episodes felt relatable because they did things people would do or would want to do. Just cartoon-ified. As the seasons went on, though, that relatability started dropping pretty fast. The series turned from, spongebob makes a bubble blowing stand and spongebob and patrick play with bubbles, to spongebob and patrick and in a tiny submarine floating around in squidward. The show was built up by how relateaboe the show could be, and now it seems to be falling apart from how unrealistic it is now. The personality has to be the biggest part, as well as the most noticeable, to the shows downfall. Everybody’s personalities seem to change from being pretty relatable kinds of people, to overexaggerated qualities of them. Spongebob started off being a fun-loving, optimistic, energetic person with a creative and playful behavior. Now he’s pretty much a child that seems to have a rather creepy obsession with squidward and has his intellegence and sense of right and wrong turned down dramatically. After episoeds like the one where he and patrick try to go to a summer camp, but accidentally get on a prison boat instead and, throughout the whole episode, believe they areat summer camp, or a more recent one where squidward manages to convince spongebob and partick that some random people have bought their homes and that they are now destitute and living behind the krusty krab in a home they built from trash, it’s pretty clear that not only is spongebob becoming an idiot, but the whole show is season by season. And worst part is, spongebob isn’t the only one with a personality change. Patrick changes from being the lovable idiot that does some smart things, to just being an idiot, and honestly, a jackass in some episodes. Sandy started as a pretty smart little air-breather that knew karate and was all texas tough, and was turned into a mad scientist, which i don’t recall any of the original season’s episodes to have anything she did relatedto her becoming a scientist, apart from that one episode where spongebob and patrick hijack her rocket. Honestly, her personality change had to be the least noticable compared to theothers, but the fact it was changed anyways is a bit of a no no. The last thing on mind would be the quality. And yes, while the quality of animation grew, the quality of how it was animated droped, if anyone could understand what i mean. The movement of the characters was simple, if a person moved even the slighted, it was done in a simple manner. Nowadays, shows can’t go 2 minutes without anything stretching out of proportion, bouncing sporadically or even just deforming itself in a manner it wasn’t supposed to be. Take the episode “face freeze”, the hands-down worst episode i’ve seen and the one where i really noticed the decline of the show. The episode had probably the simplest, and most uninteresting plot i’ve seen, with spongebob and patrick make faces at each other until their faces get stuck in their grotesque forms. That episode had the worst quality of plot, performance, and animation i’ve ever seen. A solid minute or two was just frames of spongebob and patrick in the weirdest forms imaginable and, to this day, makes me feel ashamed of how poor the show has become. From the first 3 seasons, the use of changing a character’s appearance for humor alone, or “morphing comedy” as i have dubbed it, was not present without good reason to. In the episode where spongebob eats a rancid sundae and gets bad breath, there’s a moment where spongebob looks deflated from how sad he’s feeling from being secluded from everyone, and it felt ok to do, because spongebob was sad and was showing it physically as well as emotionally, whereas nowaday, a character can’t move a few feet without bouncing to and fro for no apparent reason. In fact, i’ve seen a couple of shows do this sort of thing, now just spongebob. I used to like wathcing the amazing world of gumball when it came out, but i noticed over time that in the later season, the characters just can’t seem to sit still and have them makes obscure faces or odd gestures that would make them out of place. It was a simple, sort of relatable show of a talking blue cat’s life and the silly shananigans that would occur after trying to do simple tasks. And it’s that one words that keeps appearing “relatable.” That’s the one thing that made us love the show much more than any other. The show had stories that people could relate to, characters that we could relate to, and the characters would move in a way that felt almost natural. That’s the reason spongebob is losing itself, it’s lost it’s relatability. Anyone, even nowadays can relate to playing around with a simple piece of papaer and letting their imagination go wild, but nobody can relate to the episode where spongebob and patrick get toy propellers that let their freaking brains fly around in the sky. (Seriously, who makes this stuff?) I think that, while spongebob has made plenty of mediocre to out right terrible episodes, i don’t think it irredeemable, there may still be a shot to bring it as close as to it’s golden seasons, if it simply toned down the speratic behavior, changed the characters back to their relatable selves, and simply made stories that people could closely relate to in real life. I’m not saying it’ll suddenly get better over night, but it might over time. And, thinking about it, it’s kinda funny. All these people tried to do what hillenburg did, and still failed, because all he did was try to make the show as relatable as possible. Seems something a lot of shows nowadays are missing.
No. What you're experiencing is exaggerated nostalgia. I have watched the new Spongebob and I must say the episodes have become more nuanced and have more personal subplots. Early Spongebob was more plying it safe with goofball antics with occasional "mature" humor. Im just tired of people nowadays feeling that kids d how's are to be tailored specifically for their tastes.

I remember as a kid noticing all these changes after the movie, but I thought I was the only one. Glad there's now actually a video that does a breakdown of his character and design changes. I just loved the witty nature of the show from seasons 1-3, but after the movie I remember Spongebob and all the other characters becoming annoying and/or one-dimensional. Another thing I noticed is that even Spongebob's VOICE changed from the movie onward. Almost like Tom Kenny started doing it more nasally. That really bothered me as a kid too lol
I don't think that they where instantly annoying after the movie, definitely more annoying but i think it was still enjoyable in season 4 and bearable in season 5, after that it was just way way too much.
At least his original voice stayed to be the same. In my country his voice actor died after the Spongebob movie. For us not only his personality and his appearance died but his voice too. If you search up Spongebob Hungarian/"Magyar Spongyabob" or a multilanguage Spongebob video in some of them it's very noticeable.
@@redpanda6497 What country do you live in? That's so sad about Spongebob's voice actor in your country. The voice actor in my country stayed the same since the show started. I think I can speak for everyone who grew up watching seasons 1-3 Spongebob from 1999 to 2004. that it was pure magic and gold. Once Steven Hillenburg left it was never the same. Season 4 was the last pretty solid season to me. After that I try and block out the rest. No matter how much modern Spongebob tries to be "funny" it will always live in the shadow of what made the show so great to begin with. Spongebob used to be a show made for everyone now it's just a show made for kids.
Big Birthday Blowout was a fucking fail in my book I was hyped and then was given a pile of shit in a bag made of crystallized piss Like wtf even was that The beans section? The shower section? Great video- But I feel it would have REALLY benefited from doing side by side comparisons of the "previous" spongebob, to the one in question to allow viewers to see the comparison more distinctly.
Well actually that isn't entirely on the fault of the music director. Some of the classic music literally can't be used anymore because they got moved to another library. The title card music in "Opposite Day" and "Club SpongeBob" is one example, as well as the one at the end of "Dying for Pie". But some of the classic songs have been used more frequently in season 12.
Yeah, Memorex, I noticed that as I heard rips of the OST. My favorite or the tracks are The Grinder and Chill Out, two tracks that you don’t normally hear in the show and feel out of place more than any other of the tracks.
Right! Like at 10:00, I can hear in my hand the fantastic song that went along with that clip... “Living in the sunlight, laughing in the sunlight, having a wonderful time”
Band Geeks will always be my favorite. It’s hilarious and I think it’s the perfect spongebob episode. It incorporates almost every main character and it throws them in outrageously funny situations (plankton with the harmonica/ sandy putting Patrick in a trombone)
Black Ninja I don't remember an episode called _Gary's Gone_ but if you're talking about _Have You Seen This Snail?_ , that was season 4. And _Gary Takes a Bath_ was Season 2. Season 4 actually had some good episodes but in my opinion it's not as solid as the first 3. Season 4 is pretty much the last season before Spongebob starts feeling, a little different, I guess.
Also, spongebob had an adult singer sounding voice when he sang in season 1 (ripped pants) but in later seasons he is known for being a terrible singer (striped sweater, and in the episode Model Sponge, he sings badly) and don’t forget about when he sings sweet victory and goofy goober rock - that was the season 1 type of voice
This is the biggest gripe I have with the show and hence why I couldn't bring myself to watch beyond season 4. It's like watching someone's crack-induced fever dreams.
Yes! I also started feeling like he lost a lot of his personality at one point which is why I stopped watching it after a certain point. Then I lost cable as well, so I have no idea how it was afterwards. I think it was around season 7 where I started realizing the change and considering I was like 8 should mean something
Has anyone notice how Spongebob's voice has become more nasally and high pitch in the newer episodes? Tom Kenny lost the childlike subtleties in his delivery in the earlier episodes, and it sounds obnoxious and grating.
Changed a bit for the movie, and then was amplified in season 4 onward. Not sure what that was about, but noticed it immediately even as a kid. Other characters' voices have changed here and there as well
I noticed this too. I think maybe with age, the voice is harder to do so he lays it on thicker to make sure it comes across as Spongebob? Idk, just a theory.
All I can see are comments like the animation is too “exaggerated” and “this is not the Spongebob I know”. Seriously, things change over time. As much as I like SpongeBob, I personally think the characters' facial expressions are too crazy anymore. I'm not saying the show should end. No way. I just think they should tone down the characters expressions just a little bit.

I can stand seasons 1 - 9, but then Season 10 (aka 2019- Present) I can’t stand. It reduced Patrick to a idiot. Spongebob is stupid. Sandy is just a dumb scientist. Mr. Krabs is cheap and greedy. Squidward is used as a plot device. Plankton’s plans are lazy. Episodes like “The Nitwitting” make fun of people with mental disabilities. The plots are crap. The humor now revolves around gross-out humor and facial expressions. Sorry if I sound like a boomer, but it’s the truth.
This entire comment has been Spongebob from season 7 to 12 (Except 11, since that one was made by Hillenburg for the most part). Honestly the only good Spongebob content is seasons 1-3 and the 2 movies. The rest is trash.

I'll never get why people criticize season 1's animation. It's sooo beautiful and the best animation in my opinion
I grew up with both digital and traditional animated movies and shows. It looked natural to me.
Seasons 1-3 of Spongebob are god-tier. There's a reason 99% of the Spongebob memes we see online are ripped from those episodes. The content was just better.

It was so sad as a kid to watch and it showed that Squidward does care about Spongebob even if he annoys him
Boop what is the episode

I feel that spongebob for the first four seasons was adulthood through the lenses of an optimistic child. SpongeBob is more like just a kid now, but I think that’s what made the show special. Especially having Squidward as his foil.
I don't know I like seeing the errors on animation. Where you can see the small little mistakes that don't really take you out of the show. Like how every frame is different. I enjoy that so the first season is my favorite.

@@TAKirbyStar no it’s still wacky but I think he means the comedy and the nostalgia.
It just...... feels better
It was authentic and they actually had to draw frame by frame
Yes 💕
i think what made season 1 so good was that it was a chill in a way where we were just watching some adults live their lives in the ocean.
- sandy was a science wizz, but she also had a life outside of science. she lived in the ocean to study sea animals and she made genuine friends outside of science purposes. she was also athletic and strong (idk why they threw this plotline out)
- mr. krabs was always a capitalist monster lmao
overall they were just adults, but they've been shifted for spongebob & patrick to be the kids while everyone else are the adults. which is why the dynamics feel so off.
Mr. Krabs was way more likeable. And when he was too greedy he was able to learn his lesson.
Exactly, and to me the older ones are really easy to remember

i really cant stand the "screaming and crying humor". that's what it seems to have evolved into.
Just a mirror of current society.
"Devolved" might be more fitting.
They also destroyed the balance of qualities in the characters Squidward and Spongebob and they become almost fully one dimensional. There has been great video essay about that but I forgot the source.

All the characters were stupid yes, but actually competent in what was going on around them, and could defend themselves in unique ways that the characters now just can’t. on the term of more expressive not always being good, take the movie fish tale. it tried to have a very expressive and squash and stretch style, but looks horrifying if you pause on a close up of a character. another movie, like the madagascar series, pulled this off really wel
@@scurrvery Expressiveness worked well to Madagascar's advantage. The similar movie, The Wild, was like Madagascar, except without any real expression, and we all know how that turned out. Haha So yes, if it fits the tone of the movie well, I think it's fine. Fish Tale is a great example of when a studio doesn't really know what kind of vibe it wants to give off and so the characters just have ugly faces and expressions. xD
Spongebob used to be a show that had some really clever jokes and didn't just rely on making all the characters seem childish. The expressions that WERE made were just so perfect for the situation, like Spongebob's scared face when facing "A FLOATING SHOPPING LIST AAAAHHH." Can we just all take a moment and realize how much we love SpongeBob and how he shaped our childhoods....
Made us all brutally depressed & retarded😂 Happy to say I grew up watching the evolution of this show🔥
What’s worse than making Spongbob dumb is how dumb they made Patrick later on. In later seasons Patrick went from being dumb to being like super dumb

i..
same
Throughout the shows runtime, i, being a beig spongebob fan, watched spongebob with sheer dedication, even after it’s golden seasons.
(Seriously, who makes this stuff?)
I think that, while spongebob has made plenty of mediocre to out right terrible episodes, i don’t think it irredeemable, there may still be a shot to bring it as close as to it’s golden seasons, if it simply toned down the speratic behavior, changed the characters back to their relatable selves, and simply made stories that people could closely relate to in real life.
Im just tired of people nowadays feeling that kids d how's are to be tailored specifically for their tastes.

and “this is not the Spongebob I know”. Seriously, things change over time. You can’t expect them to be the same. The show’s literally been running for 20 years, so it’s obviously going to change. If it was the same old thing all the time you’d say it’s boring and needs more life. You just need to shut up because it’s not their fault that you can’t accept change. Learn to grow up. If you don’t like it, then don’t watch it!
@@nickgadson266 some people just like the old ones man. I myself do. The new SpongeBob lookin like a highlighter. I prefer the more darker yellow. Easy on the eyes, loved the hand drawin animation. Some changes aren't always good. I don't care about the so called "improvements." The old is just better in every way.
@@parismahone291 there's this thing called preference. Not everyone likes what I like I'm just stating my opinion. It's bad and I'm sorry, if you don't like my opinion then the internet isn't for you. And the old ones isn't funny? yeah u trippin trippin cuz most of the people that likes the new ones still think the old ones are funny.
@@parismahone291 and I'm not grateful that it's still on tv....it's bad now. Nobody can't have an opinion no more 😂😂😂mans really butthurt over some SpongeBob. Grow up bro.
Nicholas Gadson I’ve seen you comment the same thing on any slightly negative comment so like... stop it?
2001-2004 Spongebob design will always remain the best one for me.
I’m gonna go in there,
March straight to the manager,
LOOK EM STRAIGHT IN THE EYE,
LAY IT ON THE LINE, AND
*_I CANT DO THIS!_*

Seasons 1-4 were great, 5-before the show had the latest update of animation was pretty good, but these recent seasons I just can’t enjoy. The facial expressions are weird, and unenjoyable. I wish it was as good as it used to be, but at least we got some great seasons. Unfortunately Nick is going against Steve’s wishes with the show.
I hate the facial expressions it just ruins everything
@@user9079_ IKR!? it's like everything the say has to have a different HUGE facial expression. It's so dumb. I'm miss the old days.
the body expressions too. its really weird
The show today is just based on gross "silly" faces every frame
KLS02 I’ve seen people diss the current animation style of SpongeBob, but to me, I think it has improved from the stiffness of the first season.
It was quite long and expensive for the animators to make just ONE cel.

@@nickgadson266 Yes, but the faces the characters make are lowkey disturbing. If it were fluid but less concentrated in the "craziness" it'd be good.
Nicholas Gadson i don’t think people rlly care about the animation rather that much but rather the quality of the show
noodlili w/ hot sauce That’s fine, too.
Elvice OS Not really.
The darker colors and imperfect look of season one SpongeBob is ✨aesthetic✨.
9:38 Also, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
As much as I like SpongeBob, I personally think the characters' facial expressions are too crazy anymore. I'm not saying the show should end. No way. I just think they should tone down the characters expressions just a little bit.
I think it should end, it's being milked way too much now. Especially since the creator is no longer with us, it's time for SpongeBob to be put to rest.
@@linus6718 srsly, the legacy of the character is enough to be remembered for like ever ,
I say end it and keep reairing seasons 1-6. I can rewatch that shit everyday 😂. The new seasons are awful tho
@@Tellaz I want season 8 to air season 7 sucks
My favorite thing about the first few seasons is how sometimes SpongeBob would actually get legitimately angry sometimes.
This is sad because every time I see spongebob on tv I think “damn this is trash now”

Nicholas Gadson no need to get pressed
I can stand seasons 1 - 9, but then Season 10 (aka 2019- Present) I can’t stand. It reduced Patrick to a idiot. Spongebob is stupid. Sandy is just a dumb scientist. Mr. Krabs is cheap and greedy. Squidward is used as a plot device. Plankton’s plans are lazy. Episodes like “The Nitwitting” make fun of people with mental disabilities. The plots are crap. The humor now revolves around gross-out humor and facial expressions. Sorry if I sound like a boomer, but it’s the truth.
I completely agree
Right! Even kids hate it! My 8 year old brother can’t STAND it
This entire comment has been Spongebob from season 7 to 12 (Except 11, since that one was made by Hillenburg for the most part). Honestly the only good Spongebob content is seasons 1-3 and the 2 movies. The rest is trash.
At first i was like people must be exaggerating, the new episodes can't be THAT bad. But i tried watching one episode, god damn it was like i was watching an Oggy and The Cockroaches episode, it's *too* bright, the plots are almost non existent, the script seems like it was written by a bunch of middle schoolers. Literally only children would be able to enjoy them
