I'm so new to diamond painting. Yes, this was really helpful. I just can't believe it's been out there since 2010 and I'm just finding it. Love your channel and thank you.
I started in 2010 but then my eyes started getting bad. I found a light pad and that changed the game. Now I'm back to diamond painting and loving every minute of my stress relief time ❤
I just ordered my first painting and had no idea why they included a washi tape with the kit or why the painters would cut the plastic off since most of what I watch are asmrs so thank you so much for this explanation! Really can’t wait to get mine and start❤️
I love sectioning off with my washi tape, but I also keep the replacement sheets handy so that I can place one down on my section about half way. That gives me a place to lay my hand on to work on the section without getting my hand all sticky and getting cat hair on that area.
@@cathykearns5489 If the section is done, then you are probably sticking to the edge of the painting. Put some washi tape around the edge of painting also.
So glad you did this video because I had been wondering how you sectioned off your diamond paintings. It was super helpful to me because I have found that plastic to be a huge pain.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I started diamond painting in October 2020, and have watched so many UA-camr's videos about sectioning off canvases with washi. However, I was still confused. I'm so glad I found your video. It clarified the questions I had. Now to pick a tape and get started!
I’m fairly new to DP have had mine over a year. Wish I had watched your video first. Thank for the video and explanation of how you begin your painting. Enjoying your videos and your luv of DP.
Sectioning my canvas always helps me, too. And I don’t feel as overwhelmed by the big ones. Scotch brand Washi works really well also. But when I do use the other brands that tend to peel up, I just rub a small dab of glue stick on the corners and it works perfectly. It’s not permanent either, but it helps keep the washi down for however long I need it.
Thanks for sharing! In my mind I definitely prefer sectioning with washi but within one section, I don’t do any colours in any particular order. Love the matching combos you do with your washi and paintings!
Thank you for the video. I've never tried sectioning with washi tape before but for some large diamond painting pieces I have i will definitely try it out. One thing i did notice is that the washi tape that comes with the diamond art club paintings sometimes tend to peel up easily so I'll have to glue it down.
I am a beginner and came across your youtube video. I’ve watched some and you have given me alot of information about getting started. I picked up a small kids one to work on to see if this is something I wuld like to continue. I’m beginning to find out that I really like it and moved on to a diamond painting.
Hi, it's really super nice to meet you! Also this video has been very helpful indeed to me so thank you very much! I'm a little kinda new to diamond arts and I was sadly having a little trouble with trying to focus on my diamond art because it's a very big one and this is the first time I have been working on a very big one! I'm really happy to know that I can use something like replacement paper on my diamond art so that I won't end up getting overwhelmed like I usually do with doing diamond art! I'm definitely going to be looking for some replacement paper when I get the chance!
I'm really enjoying all of your videos - thank you! I started Diamond art around Christmas - as a project for my class, and have fallen in love with the process, it really is meditative. Your ips and tricks are very, very helpful.
Thank you for showing and explaining the how`s and why`s of sectioning. I have been fighting with the plastic for a few month, this will make it easier. Love all your videos.
Thank you so much for this! I am currently working on DAC Woodland Walk and it is the biggest piece I have worked so far being 105cm x 70cm. I started on the top right corner where it is the trees and so far I have put in over 106 hours since I can’t get into the color blocking till the center of the canvas. I have some Washi tape I purchased from a box store so I can give this sectioning a try to see if it helps me to get this done better. Thanks for all your great tips
This is very helpful. I have done four paintings and so now I am ready to use washi tape as I now understand exactly why I am using it. Thank you for the tips.
I just discovered your channel and love this idea. I always struggle with the plastic covers. Also, thanks for recommending Simply Gilded! They have beautiful washi tape

It was fun to do. Thank you for showing this technique. Once I get to my Diamond Art Club, "Crystal Lake Cabin" by Dominic Davison, I will have to give this a try. Thanks.
This was incredibly healthy. I will try this on my next plastic sheeted diamond painting. I use the other method for the other kind of glue. Thank you for the help
Hi dear Katie! I enjoyed this so very much! I ordered this very pic (same size, drills and website) with your helpful instructions and also ordered the Simply Gilded washi tape you shared below. I almost forgot, I got a notification that my ceramic pens will be delivered today!!! I’m cookin’!!! 😬 Thank you for all your help. You are truly wonderful!!! 💕🙏🤗
Hi, I’ve just started. I have a question. I have extra diamonds. How do I store them and since each project has its own legend, how to I make sure that if I use them in another project the dots will match?
I section off diamond paintings without washi tape, and by the permanent marker in black color and write a lot of numbers, depending on the occasion or a size of my painting.
Doing my first diamond painting kit. Small inexpensive from the Dollar Tree. As you put your boarder on, you covered the color chart. Do better kits come with labels when... is the word kitting your project. Perhaps that's explained in another video. Thank you this was interesting I like idea of that relief paper. Even to put down randomly so you have a place to rest your hand.

I section my canvas with simply gilded as well. No need to buy other brands when I got tons of it here. I don’t measure though. I just find the middle and start to tape vertically and horizontally from that center then go out from there on both rows and columns. Just making sure they are straight following the grid lines
Question: I just started doing and was wondering about the legend on the sides of the canvas, that you covered with washi tape. I use the legend the entire time I work on my painting. How would O work around this? I want to section off my canvas, but still need the legend. Thank you so much! Your video was so awesome and very helpful. You explain things very well.
You can either label your colors with the symbol so you no longer need the legend or you can use a thinner washi tape where you can see the legend through it or smaller where you don't cover the legend
Release paper is something you can buy in precut squares and has a glossy sheen to it. Parchment paper you typically get on a roll and cut to size, and it's a little thinner. They serve the same purpose, though! Just make sure you don't accidentally buy wax paper instead of parchment paper.

But it was interesting to see how to section it. I’m also hoping to save the cover sheets to reuse. My very first painting I cut sections off of the cover and it was a mess. I guess most people like sectioning it seems, but I haven’t adapted to that yet!L. Just thought I’d share😊
looking also, I see this for sale locally, "3M Scotch Delicate Surface Gentle Removal Washi Painter's Tape" I'm thinking it may be a better option??, if not, I'll have to find real Washi tape online I guess, also Brand new to this, lol
Thank you Katie. I am 3/4 done with a 22"x 28" from DAC and I am losing my mind! Trying to place drills where there is still plastic. Totally invisible to my eyes! The rest of this canvas is getting Washi. I so appreciate your channel. :)
I am recently getting back into diamond painting after almost a year, and found you on UA-cam. You advice on sectioning off my canvas was very helpful Thanks so much. Also would you recommend a magnifying lens? I already have a light board .
What kind of Washi sold on Amazon do you recomend? My granddaugher (years old) is starting Diamond painting and seems to love it. I showed her how you divide your canvas but want to send her some reliable yet reasonably priced washi. I want her to have good tools to begin so as not to discourage her. Thanks for any help. 💜
I do. But that's mostly because I have a furry kitty kiddo who loves trying to lift the diamonds. Back to the serious business of diamonds . I use a new freezer bag instead of the thin film. It feels more protective and you can fit it to any placement of it. I just fold it to use with the next painting.
I kinda wish I had watched this video before I did my Lion Cub from DAC, I used the washi tape on a small part of the canvas, didn't realize it should only be on the plastic. I had release papers down but had wanted to align the grid better since the ones I have are not all the same size since they were apparently cut by hand. When I went to peel it off, I was afraid I wouldn't get it off, it came off but I did notice the tape's residue. After that little incident, I've basically ignored the tape.

Thank you for making this video! I know this was posted 2 years ago. Has there been any changes on how you section the canvas or tools?

looking also, I see this for sale locally, "3M Scotch Delicate Surface Gentle Removal Washi Painter's Tape" I'm thinking it may be a better option??, if not, I'll have to find real Washi tape online I guess, also Brand new to this, lol
For the border, the overspray glue, you can directly add washi tape right?
Thank you!💜
Thank you Katie.
Thank you for this video!!!
I noticed you covered your color chart with the tape. How will you know what colors to use?
If I cut the protective film and finish that section, how do I keep it from drying out, ordo I put the part I cut on top of the diamonds?
I do. But that's mostly because I have a furry kitty kiddo who loves trying to lift the diamonds.
Back to the serious business of diamonds
